Excellent service, food and atmosphere! I come here often for a break while on my neighborhood walk, but this is the first time I've posted a review. Yesterday my husband got the frozen hot chocolate and I got one of the staff picks: an iced vanilla coconut latte with oat milk. Both were delicious. Java Room is typically a 4, but today the service was borderline rude. It was 230p and they closecat 3. Probably 20ish people inside. I ordered my standardl hot latte for there and when they called my order they had it in a to go cup so I stated my I please have it for here (I would not drink a nice glass of wine in a solo cup so I prefer my coffee in a 'mug' she was not happy and said we are doing everything to go. I asked again may I please have it for here so she got a mug and sloppily poured in into mug spilling it over the mug and saucer. I got the eye roll and the small spoon hastily put on the saucer. Clearly not happy. Maybe she was having a bad day as she is normally pleasant but.. service is much better when the owner is there. Then at 240ish she's cleaning up, taking the water, everyone is in the back, etc. God forbid if the people there wanted something to go. My friends and I have been going to Java in Chelmsford, MA, for years. It's our chance to get together and grab some coffee, a quick wrap, quiche, or soup and catch up for a couple hours. No one ever rushes us out. It's basically a coffeehouse and wine bar offering light fare, Wi-Fi, and live jazz on weekends. This past Tuesday my friends and I met again and ordered our usual. Turns out our tab was zero, as a person had come in during morning hours and had given Java several hundreds of dollars in her mother's honor. That money was to be used to defray the cost of patrons' orders. So my soup and quiche and my friends' lunches were free. Was the sweetest gesture ever. Bring earplugs. Don't understand the loud music. Could see it in the evening with cocktails sure, but on what could have been a relaxing Saturday morning? Just wanted to enjoy time with my friend and it was so loud it was a strain to talk. Lentil soup was very good. Quiche was disappointing, so loaded with spinach that was all I could taste, and crust not flaky but more heavy. Matcha latte was great, could have been warmer. My friend said the coffee was on the weaker side for her. You order at the counter and try to figure out if you should sit down or wait because they say nothing! There's nothing more that I miss than hitting this coffee shop Sunday and Saturdays. Everybody is so nice at the counter not to mention the guests become friends overtime seeing one another weekly. Not the most friendliest of places. I was in town unexpectedly dropping off my hubby for a friend lunch. Needed to look for a place to go while waiting for them. 2 hrs. Looked up a few places on yelp and this one has outside seating which was important to me. I came here it is across from a really good cemetery. Just off center. I am visiting here. The coffee is all additives not brewed. Found out by asking that all pastries muffins etc r not made here. Disappointed to hear that we're not made in house they were brought in frozen and cooked here the only thing made in house is their quiches. I didn't come here for lunch I just came for break in between while waiting for them to be finished. No one seems very friendly you can tell if someone is just by looking at the eyes I didn't really see that and the girl that waited on me she wasn't very informative unless you actually asked a lot of questions and dragged it out of her. Everyone was socially distance visiting and stuff works on the computer is very few customers were very friendly it was very clear however the chairs could use a makeover the leather was peeling and broken. Not very nice looking. Not to comfortable. I think I might come back here again when the weather is warmer and I can sit outside. Because that's what most appeal to me. read more

I meet with a special colleague for coffee and planning here once a month. Not that it is the only time I go for breakfast and coffee. I bypass all of the "quick stops" on every corner for a better cup of coffee and superior muffins! The Java Room's Java is so delicious and of course you can get so much more from a cup of specialty coffee here. The atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed and visiting friends for a meet up there is so much more calming. I especially enjoy the piano accompaniment when it is available. read more

Absolutely adorable. This is a perfect place to have a first date, study (free wifi- no limit), and to have a drink or coffee/tea with some friends. They have food, but I can only comment on my mango smoothie (yes- it's not the powdered stuff!). Sunday= jazz/ grand piano.... I love the atmosphere and will come back (although- I do wished they opened a little longer). Reminders of my local coffee shops in Berkeley, CA and Cambridge, MA- but a little more upscale and an older/family crowd. The prices aren't too bad either, but it;s a little odd that when you walk into the door there are coffee beans sitting in a sink- awkward. Loved the comfortable, relaxing atmosphere and super friendly barista! Stopped in on a Friday afternoon around 5 pm for a coffee and snack with a friend. Yelp helped us find this coffee shop. So many flavor options for latte's and very glad they had milk options: almond and soy. My friend had the toffee nut latte with almond milk which I liked better than my gingerbread latte with almond milk. My gingerbread didn't taste much like gingerbread to me but the presentation was beautiful. We each ordered a cookie, chocolate chip and oatmeal, and asked for them to be heated which our barista gladly did. They also offer gluten free cookies as well and during our visit, only GF chocolate chip was available. Live music is available after 8 pm on certain nights but we weren't there that late. I would definitely return if I'm in the area again to try other latte flavors. Two large lattes and two cookies were around $14. Very fair prices! They also offer alcoholic coffee drinks as well. Ever since I had my first flat white in New Zealand, I've always tried to look for them in coffee shops. Luckily, The Java Room makes a damn good one. I came here on a Sunday morning and ordered a flat white, a blueberry muffin, and a banana walnut muffin. I must say, the banana walnut was flavorful, not too sweet, and a great size! The blueberry one was packed with blueberries and you could tell both were made fresh that morning. I'm so thankful that this establishment has been able to stay open and ensure its' locals and newcomers alike are eating well and have a great beverage in hand. read more

This doesn't happen to me very often but it was kind of love at first sight with this place. From the outside it looks like your run-of-the-mill coffee shop, but once you step inside you're greeted by a spacious room, orderly coffee bar with a nice selection of pastries, a little stage for musicians!, lots and lots of tables and comfortable seats, windows all around and natural lighting, and a wine/cocktail bar to boot. All of that and that's not even the best part. The latte was -- and I am not exaggerating -- the best I've ever had. Not one of the best; THE best. And this is coming from someone who's tried the creme de la creme in SF, LA, and NYC. I was in the area with family and we were looking for a place to grab coffee before doing the tourist thing for the day and feel so fortunate for finding this place on yelp. In fact, I don't even know why I waited so long to write this review! I just wish we had this kind of place in the Bay Area. If I had to gripe about one thing it'd be that the baristas weren't the friendliest, as in they did not greet us with a smile and weren't helpful when we were reading their menu and took a few minutes to decide what to get. But I feel like that's nit-picking. So five stars regardless. Will definitely return when and if I'm ever in the area again! read more

Met up with my wife for lunch here. Pretty decent selection of food considering I thought it was just a coffee shop. I had a ham and cheese quiche with a cup of corn chowder (~$7-$8), plus a caramel latte. The latte was very good, but perhaps a bit too sweet. The quiche was very cheesy and full of flavor, but slightly cool in the middle. The corn chowder was good as well, hearty yet smooth in flavor. My wife had the chicken caesar wrap which was "pretty good". Portion wise I was completely stuffed and would probably get only the quiche or soup next time. Service was friendly and they brought the food out to our table. Decor was recently updated, and was well done. There is also a bar now, which I haven't yet tried (this is great since the Bertucci's next door doesn't have a bar). Good selection of dessert items as well. I have been to the JavaRoom many times, but this is the first since COVID. I went for a 70 miles bike ride, planning on a stop at the JRoom. After all, a good bike ride must go thru a good coffee shop. Well, as the weather was turning bad, the sky getting dark, and snow flakes mixed with rain flying horizontally, I sped up and at mile 38 I got two pinch flats... both wheels. A walking mile later and I'm in the JRoom. I ordered an extra hot large vanilla latte. I wasn't in the mood for pastry so I asked if they can just make a grilled cheese. They don't have that in the menu, but they just asked me what kind of bread... when they rang the bill, it was less than a latte in any of the local coffee chains! I made sure they rang both items, and suggested that it should be more, but no, this was the correct price (which made me leave a larger tip). The grilled cheese sandwich was great, melting, nicely toasted, and with the extra hot coffee - it was just what I needed. The place is very nice, but the people who work there are making it the great place it is. Looking forward for many more bike rides with stops at the JRoom. read more

This place is the absolute worst. When you walk in no one greets you. When you sit down, no one acknowledges you. It's a glorified Starbucks with a few bottles of wine. After a few minutes of terrible service and a cold atmosphere, I left and went to Dream Diner where I was welcomed with open arms and a fun atmosphere. I then went to Mami Luz's which is in a class by itself. This place is terrible. The staff was rude. In particular a young man working there. I'll never return. I had to add a star for review but it doesn't deserve it. Zero stars. There are so many better places to choose from. I had such high hopes for this place. Total disappointment. Awful. read more

This place smokes Starbucks in every respect except there is only 1 Java Room and 1,247,765 Starbucks (unconfirmed number). The owner is really nice too. She loves Jazz music. I just came back from studying here. It has a nice arrangement with comfy chairs and lighting. Coffee is served in a round cup and dish. There is a baby grand piano for music during Sunday brunch. Otherwise, pretty low key and not too busy during the day before Thanksgiving. You soon realize that lots of locals come here and chit-chat with the baristas. The Javaroom is a great place if you're looking for somewhere to get together in the suburbs. The atmosphere, decor and mood is really superb there, but when it comes to their coffee, its not good!! Sure, they have a large selection, but drinks are very poorly made. I wanted to try something different and ordered their "Almond Joy Latte," which was supposed to have flavors of almond and coconut. Those flavors were nowhere to be found, and my drink resembled just plain coffee. For what it tasted, I would've rathered a plain coffee from Dunkin's for half the price. Both my friends were also disappointed with their orders, as it was either too sweet or tasted nothing like what it should have. Muffins!!! Muffins!!! They are amazing! So many choices so little time. As we stood in line on Labor Day my husband and I slowly watched the stash of muffin variety decrease in size. Then a miracle happened! This employee came from the back of the establishment, the kitchen, and brought out tray after tray of hot steaming muffins! We bought 8 and delivered them to the neighbors. How can you go wrong with a sweet and sour and a chocolate chip muffin? Our neighbors couldn't believe they were still hot! The Java coffee is strong and just what you need on a early morning to get motivated. We will be back! Thank you Java for making fresh home made muffins. Whenever I am in the Chelmsford area, I look forward to a comfortable stop here to enjoy the excellent espresso beverages. The interior is decorated in a serene color scheme that causes my blood pressure to immediately drop about 10 points (until the caffeine kicks in, of course). In my experience with more than 40 visits, most of the baristas here are capable of producing top-notch espresso drinks with appropriately thick micro foam. In fact, if all of The Java Room's baristas possessed this skill, this cafe would earn an easy 5 stars. As it is, The Java Room is high on my list of favorite cafes.
