We recently visited Smoke Shop BBQ and overall had a good meal. They were out of ribs by 6:00 PM on a Monday. Since they don't open until 4:00 PM and the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, it was surprising that one of their signature barbecue items was already unavailable. The service was friendly throughout our visit. Our server was pleasant, although we did have to remind them a couple of times about the straws and plates we had requested. The food itself was enjoyable. The agave-glazed wings were the best out of all our meals. Charred, flavorful, and something I'd definitely order again. The brisket was tender and well prepared, and while the burnt ends were cooked nicely, they were a bit sweeter than my personal preference. Unfortunately, the apple cider vinaigrette for the salad didn't agree with us afterward, although that may simply come down to individual sensitivity. Portions were generous, making the meal a good value. My only other suggestion would be to serve the food a little hotter, as everything cooled off fairly quickly. One thing this location has going for it is the convenience. There's plenty of parking, and it's much easier to get to than the Boston locations. Overall, delivered solid barbecue with generous portions and friendly service. If they can keep popular menu items like ribs available a little longer and tighten up a few small details, it would make for an even better experience. read more

Good size portions. If you like wet ribs with little to no effort to bit the meat of the bone, they make a good St. Louis ribs. Their coleslaw was not to die for but had the right flavors and what you would expect from a chain restaurant. I asked for their hottest hot sauce for their upcoming wing night. They must have just made the batch or given me the wrong flavor because there was no heat (Little disappointed) over all the food was better than most, good atmosphere and customer service was great from the bar tender. read more

went here with family & friends (a total of 4 in our group) on a Sunday afternoon and I loved it! It wasn't too busy, which made it comfortable to get around in my wheelchair and quiet so we could have clearly heard conversations. I ordered the ST LOUIS PORK RIBS 1/2 rack with sides of [balcony collard greens] and [cucumber Dill Salad] and it came with cornbread too. All was quite delicious; the meat came easily off the bones, as one likes and expects from long/slow smoked cooking; the collard greens, wonderfully tasty, though a bit salty on first bite; the cucumber dill salad (which my husband, funnily, thought it meant a salad of pickles) was made with fresh dill which kept it light and refreshing; I was impressed with the cornbread, it was MOIST and not too dry and gritty as is often the case in Northern restaurants. The Nashville hot chicken sliders were flavorful, with juicy chicken and a perfectly crispy coating. The wings, however, were just okay for me -- the skin was a bit dry and chewy. That said, the hot wings did deliver on spice (unlike many places that claim "spicy" but aren't). I made a reservation for Father's Day for eight people at 5:30 PM, two weeks in advance. My family arrived at approximately 5:20 PM only to discover that the restaurant had essentially run out of food. There was no formal communication from management regarding the situation. Instead, customers were left scrambling in the parking lot while employees coming out of the restaurant informed people that they were "out of practically everything." The entire situation appeared disorganized and unprofessional. To make matters worse, I did not receive a phone call until 6:10 PM--forty minutes after our reservation time--asking whether we had arrived. I was then informed that if we had not yet checked in, our reservation would need to be canceled because the restaurant had run out of food. The lack of preparation and failure to proactively notify guests resulted in a very disappointing experience for my family. read more

ambiance is nice. service is getting there as the restaurant is newer. i've had smoke shop bbq a couple times before from work related catering events. i have their book signed by Andy. the food is done well. there's a lot of flavor in each bite. i can say this restaurant is a lot better than the catering. we got the pitmaster which is a sample of everything. everything came out really fresh. mac n cheese was cheesy and soft. i will say as you're eating, you don't realize how much salt and sugar you're consuming until afterwards. i tasted sugar in a lot of the dishes. little off topic; for catering, the meats and side dishes are dried out and become tough. i'm guessing it's the heat while transporting. for example, the mac n cheese is hard and dried out. for the restaurant, we'll be back. read more

Absolutely thrilled there is a high-quality authentic barbecue restaurant in Chelmsford! I had the brisket, cornbread, and banana pudding. The brisket was tender and delicious. The sauce was tangy and added just the right amount of spice. The cornbread, although a bit dry, was tasty and made even more delicious with a drizzle of honey. The banana pudding was delicious although I am not sure those were bananas inside it? It was almost as if they were dried and then reconstituted? But the pudding, whip, cream, and vanilla wafers were delicious. I can imagine slicing a just past ripe banana would elevate this dish to some of the best banana pudding I've tasted! The staff member who took my order was super nice and accommodating. The boy who was working at the front and opened the door, was gracious and very open to answering questions. It was obvious by the fact they had to turn off their reservation system and turned away several customers (although they did seat some at the bar without reservations) it's a great indication that this restaurant will do well in Chelmsford if they keep up with this quality. Inside is open and airy with TVs and minimal decorations, which is wonderful. Overall, was is a five star meal. I'll try the banana pudding the next time to see what they actually use. read more

The Smoke Shop BBQ in Chelmsford opened at the Chelmsford Town Center in the former Andiamo Restaurant & Bar (still open in Andover & N. Andover) space behind CVS. The Smoke Shop - Chelmsford had their soft opening phase in early June 2025 and their grand opening day is June 10, 2025. They also opened Methuen (former Outback Steakhouse) and Woburn (former Applebee's) locations in 2025. Earlier in the soft opening week, I placed an online order for takeout to be picked up around dinner time. I've been to The Smoke Shop BBQ in Methuen and Cambridge, where I've enjoyed their BBQ meats and other food selections. On the takeout stop, I ordered the Ultimate Fried Fish Sandwich ($13.75 plus tax) with one side choice included, which was all set to go when I arrived around 7:15 pm. Inside, the staff was getting ready for the grand opening and the place was open for pickup. I headed back home to enjoy my takeout order of Ultimate Fried Fish Sandwich with 1 side choice (2 potato salad) ($16.50 plus tax). The crispy fried haddock was a good size, overflowing outside of the bun topped with pickles, shredded lettuce, and a tangy tartar sauce. The side of 2 potato salad had a dense mix of white & sweet potatoes & herbs. I also requested a small cup of sweet victory BBQ sauce too. I also signed up for the soft opening weekend for dine-in, which offered various discounted food, depending on the evening chosen and I got notification to pick a day and time online (reservation). I returned back for Friday evening dinner for a live staff training dinner service. The food would be 50 percent off on this soft opening dining visit. There was a crowd of folks already here with reservations and still being waited to be seated. I would have to wait a bit or head to the bar with no wait, which I eventually opted. A bartender offered a drink (got a water) and gave me menus. I ordered 2 entrees including the Texas Hot Links Sandwich with pimento cheese on a soft bun ($12 plus tax) with one side choice (2 potato salad) & watermelon slice and the Pit Boss with choice of 3 meats (pork ribs, smoked turkey, burnt ends) & 3 sides (mac & cheese, pit beans, cucumber salad), pickles, pickled red onion & watermelon slice. The food came out together in under 10 minutes and I was also given a bucket of 3 BBQ sauces for the food (Sweet Victory, Hot Streak, Gold Medal). I enjoyed the 4 meats and 4 sides over two trays of food. The Texas hot links, burnt ends, smoked turkey (lean thick slices), and BBQ burnt ends were very good and tender. The St. Louis pork ribs on the bone had good flavor too, but this serving had half lean meat and half chewy fat. The pimento mac & cheese, my favorite side, was great again. Since there no mashed potatoes on the new menu, I got the 2 potato salad again, which is actually replacement side for the mashed potatoes (winter menu). The cucumber salad was a refreshed version with pickled red onion & dill rice vinegar minus the bacon (older recipe). The pit beans cooked with smoked brisket had a good sweet & spicy flavor. The bartender dropped off the check with Toast QR code as I was finishing my food and decided not to get dessert. I had the Banana pudding on a previous visit, which I enjoyed, but I had enough food this visit. The check before discount was $47.85 with tax, 3 percent admin kitchen fee and before tip. The check was adjusted and new total was $24.57 with same kitchen fee and before tip. While I was eating my food, several bar staff checked on things and the Pitmaster himself, Andy stopped by too. I was given Smoke Shop Loyalty points from this dine-in visit and the online takeout visit from the night earlier, enough accumulated points for some free food. The staff did quite well in getting my food to me quickly. Overall, the food I ordered over two evenings in the same week in Chelmsford tasted pretty good. The portion sizes were decent. The pork ribs however had more chewy fat than normal and there was less fat on previous visits at other locations. Other than that, I can plan to come back here to order more food on a Monday or Tuesday when double loyalty points are given. read more

A friend recommended this place. My partner and I have had it 3 times now. The pulled pork, chicken, burnt ends, and brisket are delicious. We've had the sweet potatoes and the brussel sprouts each time (they're so good!). The beans weren't my favorite, there's something about them (maybe peppers?). And the cornbread I could take or leave. They do have their own sauces though, they even sell them bottled if you really love them. We never had a waiter/waitress wait on us, I had to go to the bar. After waiting 40 min. for food I asked our order was going to arrive any time soon. They said they didn't know when it would be ready. I was furious and told them to forget and left. Horrible service. I really want to like this place. They do some things really well. The wings come out amazingly crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The ribs are tender and fall off the bone. The brisket falls short of a good Texas brisket, but is about as good as you can get it cooked in the northeast. Where they really lack, unfortunately, is in the flavor. I've tried several of their different sauces and rubs and honestly everything is just lacking. It's not that the flavor is bad, it's just too subtle. I have ordered takeout from this restaurant several times, and the food has generally been decent. However, my recent dine-in experience with my daughter was disappointing. We arrived around 6:30 PM on a quiet evening and were seated immediately. Despite the low number of customers, it took an unusually long time for a server to take our order. We each ordered a sandwich, a drink, and an appetizer to share. Unfortunately, my daughter's sandwich arrived as pulled pork instead of the pulled chicken she had ordered. It took a while for the staff to address and resolve the error, even though the restaurant was not busy. Several servers appeared to be available but were not actively attending to tables. The food itself was average--nothing exceptional. More concerning was the appetizer (Cheddar Jalapeño Link, $11). It consisted of a single sliced sausage link with a small dab of cheese and four saltine crackers. The presentation was extremely minimal and unappetizing for the price. While I appreciate that mistakes can happen, the combination of slow service, the order error, and the poor value of the appetizer left us underwhelmed. I hope management will look into improving portion sizes, presentation, and service standards. read more

I had been watching the progress of the transformation of this restaurant and looking forward to its opening. There are not a lot of true BBQ options in Chelmsford so I'm hoping they have great success here. Upon arrival we were greeted by three friendly faces and it was clear they worked well together. We were then promptly seated. We arrived early enough to avoid the dinner crowd and any wait. The dining room was clean and not freezing. It was an extremely hot day but the dining room was cool. I did put my sweatshirt on because I'm getting old and often feel the chill, but the young folk sitting near us were comfortable in their street clothes. Our server came over within a very short time with waters and was eager to answer any questions we had about the menu. My husband and I are vegetarian and heard rave reviews of the shiitake burnt ends. I know, you're thinking "What are you doing at a BBQ restaurant?" But BBQ and steakhouses always have the best sides and baked potatoes! Nowadays with so many varied dietary issues and needs we find that most restaurants understand the need to have a limited amount of options so that people with varied needs and wants can dine together. This is one of those places!!!! We both got the wedge salad (mine without the egg, my husband's with it) and the shiitake burnt ends on top. The best wedge salad I've had. The lettuce was crisp and the smoked tomatoes were delicious. I think the blue cheese dressing is house made and it is delicious too! Funny story- when we ordered we forgot to say shiitake burnt ends but our companions reminded us they had regular burnt ends. Our server was able to correct it, but these things were so meat like that I worried we confused the kitchen. Our server checked with them and someone actually came out to double check. We trusted their judgement. But then the manager came over to also assure us. Way above and beyond just to make sure we were comfortable. Needless to say I ate every single last bit of them!!!! We also shared some cornbread. I didn't take a picture of it but it was enough for two to share with our meal. So happy we have a great BBQ addition to Chelmsford.
