Yeehaw. After living in Houston for 17 years, I now live in Phoenix. It took a return trip home for me to finally check out Cavender's Boot City. The reason? My attempt to dress like a cowboy. I'm certainly not a cowboy by any means, but I like the look. So I stopped by on a Sunday about an hour before close and had no problem parking in their spacious lot. First off, I was impressed by how big Cavender's is and the wide selection they have. The name doesn't do it justice. It's a lot more than boots. Clothes, belts, pants, hats, decor, and more. For both men and women. I ended up buying a t-shirt, two button-up shirts, and two belts. The staff overall was good. I was approached and asked if I needed help. I was told about a sale without asking. Overall, friendly and attentive. The prices aren't cheap. I spent a pretty penny. Time will tell if it was worth it. But at least now, I was happy with my purchase. Make sure to sign up for their email list for promotions (and to rack up points for future discounts). read more

The shoe sales person was very helpful, I found a pair of boots that I like but they had an ink stain that wouldn't come out. The shoe salesman offer to give me 50% to purchased the boots. Was excited because I would use the savings to get boots repaired. When I got to the cashier, I told her I was given 50% for the boots and she said the best she could do for me was 10%. She wasn't very welcoming, was probably having a long day. Not sure why they offer the discounted rate if it wasn't going to be applicable, but 10% didn't seem feasible to get the shoes and then had to put extra to get them fixed at the shoe clinic. read more

My wife purchased boots for my Christmas gift. I tried them on and the did not fit well. Cutting into my ankles. She tried to exchange them and they refused because she had purchased them more the 30 days prior to Christmas. I've spent alot of money at Cavender's over the years but that done. I'm in town for the rodeo and just HAD to buy some cowboy/cowgirl boots! Well, this place didn't disappoint. They have all kinds of cowboy/cowgirl gear that you can imagine and rows and rows of boots for your perusing! My salesperson, Meredith, was very friendly and could see that I needed assistance when made it over to the boot area. I told her that I needed to focus on all cowboy boots for women size 11, and she quickly walked me over to certain rows where I could find many gorgeous pair of boots! After trying on 3 or 4 pair, I went with the 2nd pair and LOVE them! Of course I had to buy a fringe tip or two just to make sure that I had the appropriate rodeo gear. When in Rome, I mean Texas... well you know...the only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because the check out woman did not go get my boots from being held (while I shopped around), was as slow as molasses and didn't hand me back my credit card at the end of the purchase. We were visiting Houston and decided to stop in and look around. We were greeted immediately by a wonderful woman, Ms Martha! She made us feel right at home, helping us out get a pair of boots for my son. They didn't have all too many boots my size (men's 15). However we found some for my son, as well as some nice western shirts. They also helped to ship them back home to us, very nice benefit and customer service! It was so great, we went back the next day to get two new Stetsons, one for my son and one for me. We were again helped by Ms. Martha who walked us through the whole process. When rodeo season comes around these guys are your one stop spot for all of your needs. I wanted some boots, but I had no idea where to begin. Their staff was very helpful. Started out with sizes...Boot sizes vs tennis shoes are very different. I ended up with a 9 1/2 in boot sizes opposed to my 10 1/2 in tennis shoes. Their staff explained to me that it needs to fit in certain areas and other areas will stretch out. Then after getting the correct size they told me about the colors, designs, height, etc. I ended up with some basic black ostrich roper boots. What are boots without a hat? These guys pointed me in the right direction. Got myself a basic starter hat. They didn't try to hard sell me any of their really expensive stuff. I liked the customer service and selection. Don't wait 'til Rodeo Season to buy yer boots! Cavender's is always crazy packed 'round that time; trust me. I made a pit stop the other day to check out their belts, buckles and - had I more time - the boots. During my short visit, I was luck enough to have the full-on assistance of young male employee. My "personal shopper," as I liked to say. The selection of buckles wasn't as much as I thought - there was about one full display case and a few rotating shelves; but I imagined they'd carry more ... perhaps since we're in an "off season?" Anyhow, for the more-than-reasonable price of $70, I snagged a kick-ass, big and shiny Texas belt buckle; and I paid another $30 for a leather belt. I opted for a men's belt since the ladies' styles seem to be a bit "bedazzled." ...Perfect for the Rodeo, but not for everyday wear. I'll have to do some more internet shopping for a new pair of boots - perhaps some Lucchese - and may just come back here if I find what I want. read more

This place is terrible to order from I ordered one pair they never came and I never even got an email that they weren't coming. Then I call costumer service trying to get it fixed and see what was happening and they said they could order me a new pair with no shipping. Since I already paid for next day air which was 30 something dollars. So I wait a few days hoping to see my jeans and nope 3 days later canceled they really shouldn't have stuff online available if they can't ever fill an order. 2 TIMES. RIDICULOUS. The first time was okay but the second time that's just terrible that you can't ever fill an order online. Just shut down the online if you can't keep up with inventory that you have and don't have. This is my boyfriends favorite store to come to to buy button shirts and pants to go out on weekends and also to buy FR Pants / FR Shirts for work since he works in the refineries. It was about 6ish 6:30 the latest when we arrived and I myself walked in looking casual and my boyfriend walked in with not the most decent clothing due to the fact that he was barely getting home from work and we came straight here. The moment we walked in we felt uncomfortable since everyone was staring at us. A man named Vincent came up to us asking if we needed any help and my boyfriend responded saying he just wanted some casual shirts. We appreciate the suggestions and recommendations but don't appreciate being followed around and stared at while we pick out clothes. He stood around following us as we walked around without saying any words which is a bit weird. My boyfriend wanted to look at the FR clothing and since it's in the back of the store obviously we made the walk. So as he was looking at the FR pants and shirt, a lady came towards the back of the store and literally stopped once she was able to see us then walked away and we were barely starting to look through the FR clothes not even a minute of looking and we were already being checked up on, almost as if they were thinking we were stealing and 2+2 isn't 5 so it isn't too difficult to understand that employees or whoever works there were basically harassing us and following us because of his appearance and tattoos maybe. It was to the point where my boyfriend didn't even want to try on any clothes because he didn't want to be bothered or questioned about things like that. As a Californian visiting Texas, one of the first things on my agenda was to get some boots because every time I have come out here I always never get to it. Thus my google search took me to this Cavenders and the minute I walked in the door I knew I would find what I needed. My struggle with shoe shopping in any state is that I wear a size 11 so its hard to find cute shoes of any sort in a size that fits. But immediately after I walked in the door I was greeted and offered assistance by Michelle who is one of the sweetest sales gals I've ever met. She helped me find a boot shape that was flattering in shape and color, and felt great on my feet. It took a while but she was great about showing me what styles they had there in my size. I am so appreciative of her help and have been wearing these suckers around town all weekend. Other great things I thought about this store were it being easy to find off the highway, being clean and well lit and having all really friendly associates (everyone greeted me with a smile) Also there was plenty of merchandise in stock in all price ranges. The boots I ended up choosing were actually marked down and usually that isn't something a salesperson is willing to show a customer at first but they had no problem showing me what was on sale in store. This Cavender's location always has a great selection. I've stopped during Rodeo to purchase new hats and boots, but I have also come here for Christmas shopping (so Santa can buy my boots), and the selection is still great. Last holiday season I came here with the intent to buy some cowboy boots with some turquoise on them. I found ONE pair of turquoise leopard Old Gringo's marked down almost 60%! They happened to be in my size.... it was fate. The employees here are always nice and helpful without being annoying. Nothing irks me more than a sales person walking around trying to show me what they think I'd like. I'm a picky bitch so I want them to help me without showing me things or acting like I care about their opinion when I try things on (I digress).... Cavender's also has great sales. If I am in the market for a new hat I always try to wait until they have their 20% off sale on hats. The sale is normally right before/during rodeo so that's always convenient. read more

I never post bad reviews. Ever. But this one... I went in to look at some boots. I was minding my own business when "Steve" just came up to me and startled me. He literally stared at me and said nothing for a good 10 seconds. It was WEIRD. I was the one that asked him "Can I help you?" to which he responded "How can I help YOU?". I tought to myself ok he's a bit off but whatever. I told him that WE had been looking for some boots online to which he responded "Who is WE?" I replied "Me and my Boyfriend". He immediately changed his attitude towards me and pretended like he was looking for the boots I needed. He handed me a pair of boots which looked a bit worn so I asked him "How long do they take to arrive if I order them online?" He replied WITH and ATTITUDE "I don't think the website does express shipping". I said "I like the other boots too" just to make a comment and he replied annoyed "Well these are the ones you showed me." I was already fed up at this point. I wanted him to leave me alone because he was making me feel uncomfortable and he was no help at all. To make him leave I told him "I need to talk to my boyfriend and see if these are the boots" to which he said "I'm just hanging out". Overall my experience with this "Steve" was the worst, most unprofessional, weird customer service I have ever had with Cavender's and sadly I will never go back to that store. Love this place. I'm from St. Louis and went in to get my first pair of cowboy boots. It was a great experience. I was genuinely greeted by Vincent. He was kind, patient, and very knowledgeable! He answered all 50+ questions that I had. He gave me the perfect amount of time to look around, but periodically checking on me to see if I needed anything else. Once I finally decided on some Ariat's (actually the ones I found on their website) I noticed a scuff mark on the toe. Vincent took the boot in back and fixed it. He then stretched the other boot so it didn't dig into my ankle. There are just so damn many things in this store, you could be lost for hours! I purchased a pair of Tony Lama Lizards from Cavenders to replace a pair that I originally purchased from them and wore for 8 years. I have shopped at Cavenders for many years and love their huge selection of western wear and accessories. While I was wearing my boots for the first time, I noticed some stitching that was not done correctly. I pulled into the Cavenders to return the boots and their boot repair specialist was outside the building, saw me carrying the boots and promptly greeted me inquiring about the imperfection. He quickly took control of the situation, found a replacement pair, conditioned them and walked me through check out. This is about as good as customer service can get. I love this place. read more

One can't roam Texas without some cowboy boots. Lol Actually I did pass on the boots as I can't gather the need for one being a city boy. The wifey and kids just couldn't resist and all walked out with some fancy boots. This place has rows and rows of boots-more than I've ever seen. Prices seem to be fair, but never shopped for boots, so not exactly sure if it's the best deal in town. Prices started about 100 bucks for your typical Chinese made knock offs to 1000.00 plus for some really elaborately USA made custom ostrich boots. read more
