Tearing a historic house apart for a remodel is no treat, take it from me. My current home is the…read more4th in a series of old historic homes that I have renovated over the years. But the biggest thrill (and expense) in any of those remodels is the kitchen. If you are looking for a custom kitchen, then look no further than Past Basket. These guys are pros working with you every step of the way overlooking no small detail. Their showroom in Geneva actually is made up of their furniture quality cabinetry so that you can see what kind of potential pieces that you may want in your kitchen. They design and draw working with you and your architect to create a one of a kind design that you will just love to cook in. Since old houses are puzzles- putting a new kitchen in that looks like it had been there since the house was built- but has all the modern amenities was my goal. Dan McFadden and his team at Past Basket created an award winning kitchen for me that looks like it was part of the original house. The glass in the cabinets is wavy and old, the pulls on the doors worn looking, the armoire that hides my refrigerator and the cabinets that hide the modern day appliances all are functional as well as beautiful. No detail is too small for this team- in fact- they did such a good job on the kitchen- I also had them make the cabinetry for the family room as well as the master bathroom. They even solved my makeup lighting problem in the bathroom by creating lights that mimic the makeup counters at fine stores. They are also the only dealer for La Cornue stoves in the area. Once I saw one of these french works of stove art- I just knew it would be the centerpiece for my kitchen. Custom cabinetry may not be for everyone. After all- if you are not planning to stay in your home for awhile to enjoy it- there are certainly less expensive options around. But if you love to cook, and love the feeling of fine furniture no matter what room you are in your home- then go to Past Basket. Even if you only look around to get ideas for the future- or if you are there with your builder to get started- their staff will love to create with you the kitchen of your dreams. I should know. They did it for me

Dan McFadden, the senior designer, was wonderful to work with from the beginning. The project was not one of their biggest, but they treated me as it was huge. He was not only creative but very technically savvy. The design, cabinets and drawers are highly functional and maximes space and storage capacity. Their price was competitive and craftmanship was excellent. My kitchen is incredible. If you are looking for high design, functional high performing kitchen, Past Basket is your place!

After recommendation from a friend, we stopped into the store. Verlissa, the designer, helped us…read more We had already picked out tile for the bathroom of our bedroom., so she helped us from there. Planning went well and they scheduled to start after Thanksgiving. Mike, the builder, did most of the work. His work is pretty good. I would rate it a B. He could have worked to cover our bedroom furniture from dust, and cover the floor better, but it was not horrible. The company did not charge us for all of they drywall that was replaced, but I was told it was easier to replace it all rather than try to patch in with what was left of the old stuff. Their painter botched the job. He did not clean the roller of lint and left a huge amount of lint all over the newly replaced walls. He came and repainted, and still only did a mediocre job. We paid $100 more for it to be painted again to do another coat to fix his mess, and to change color (our choice). The painter did not cover all the walls well so they sent someone out again. Overall: *Verlissa was very good and was a strong communicator. *Mike's work was pretty good- we would use him again. *The painter - poor- all three times he came. *Time: While we were annoyed by the last parts of the job getting done, the main part of the job got done quickly. They should have followed-up and finished the repaint more quickly. *Cost- we are not really sure. This was our first remodel job. We feel we got a fair price.

They replaced the shower, vanity counter tops, and flooring. They installed new vanity lighting and painted the walls and woodwork. From design to implementation to final touch ups, this turn-key project was perfect! KBA took care of measuring, procuring, transporting, and installing the materials. This included a custom glass shower door that is absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend Verlissa and her team! Don't be confused! okay, I'll update here since they finally installed the small granite piece for my stove backsplash…read moreand accommodated my request for first thing in the am. The 3 guys who arrived called ahead 20 min, and were super careful to measure thrice and keep measuring and using a level as the piece dried. I felt very confident watching their concern to get the piece on the backsplash in an attractive and straight manner. They could not have been more professional. I'll say it once and say it again: when you deal with the salespeople at The Granite Corporation (that's their real name not "Granite") you kind of doubt that they have a clue about what they're selling. I don't know what will happen and it takes too long for them to finish up a sale, even though they mean well. However, when the measure & install team shows up, those are the people who really know what they're doing. They are top pros. I asked Sam, my sales person, how are they going to make sure the glue holds on a vertical application, and she did not know. I asked her if I should cover my stove, and she said, don't worry (of course, I did). When they showed up, they scored the back of both my backsplash and the new piece, so more glue would be applied. They applied glue all around the perimeter (not visable). They taped the piece in place and I put a spongy rug on my stove (just in case). They said, glue sets in 10 minutes and they held it that long, and it is good to go in a couple hours when I can take off tape. I would have liked to know that there would be a little granite dust in my kitchen ahead of time, to have removed everything from countertops, but they did hold up a vacuum while they scored my backsplash, so I cannot say that I see any dust (besides my own). They scored the new piece outside my house. The treasure here is the cutting, measuring & install team. They are premium craftsmen, very experienced and know how to communicate with the public. They're the ones who should be selling the granite!

The mall does have a big parking lot so shy of Black Friday to middle of January... there should be no issues finding a spot. The store itself is beautifully laid out. During my visit, they had a great selection of products. And it seemed they were all ~10% off retail price (probably due to being an outlet store?). However, I did see a lot of signs saying an addition 30-50% off on random tables and area with some possible excisions so talk to an associate. Being an outlet store, you will have be less picky about the color but that is fine with me. I own different brands and colors so my house is like a rainbow. Today, I was interested in a deep lasagna pan. And I found a rack of them with an addition 30% off. Score! Overall, I wish I could have spend more time at the store. But my 2 year old was getting antsy and there are a lot of heavy and breakable items. However, I will be back in the future. And maybe by myself if the wife allows it to spend more money.

After browsing we found a set of measuring spoons and cups we wanted. Combined cost about $80. At the checkout, they ran up at 30%% off not 35%. When I questioned the associate, she said, the "tools" aren't part of the sale, only the bakeware. We opted to forgo the purchase over the $4 difference out of principal. While it's not as catchy to say 'everything on the tables except...' honesty would be great, especially when you see the people you told about the additional discount picking up apparently excluded items.
