Seafoood noodles - poorly presented. Too much noodles and seafood wasn't fresh.

Cebu's location is actually pretty good. You can drive there and easily get parking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is well spaced out and decorated well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the ceviche for a starter. Accompanied with shrimp crackers, this was probably the highlight of the meal. We had the burger and seafood noodles for the main course. The fries that came with the burger were really unusual and cooked really well. However the seafood noodles left much to be desired. For one, the seafood was not fresh. The mussels had a funny taste and the shrimp tasted of metal. The dish was overpowered with a mountain of noodles. I did ask for less noodles when I ordered the meal and got told everything was prepacked before cooking which should have rung alarm bells but I really wanted something fairly authentic: I should have gotten the burger. Service was fine but very sporadic and after the main dishes were served no one came to check everything was ok until we were done and they were cleaning away the plates.

Ordered takeout. Large breakfast plate portions. The garlic rice was not as great as other Filipino restaurants in the area but we still enjoyed it!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We came for Valentines day and it was a super cute space and very festive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered a few things, including the lumpia with shrimp, ceviche, and pork belly, but the one thing we came for, which was the cebu lechon, was out by 6pm when we went. We were quite disappointed, especially since it's a regular menu item and it wasn't accounted for during the holiday. However, the rest of the food was very good, especially the marinated pork belly and lumpia with shrimp. These were so flavorful and the pork belly was so tender. The ceviche was not my favorite so I would not order it again because of the coconut cream (I'm more used to a lighter sauce).

Okay - YUM! The pork belly was 10/10 and the rice was sooo good (fellow rice snob). The breakfast sandwich was also 10/10 and the egg was SO fluffy. Not to mention the banana foam cold brew was so refreshing and tasted like real banana. Will definitely return.

I came in with high expectations, but left unfulfilled. The food was bland and missed the mark on capturing the authentic Filipino flavors.

One of my favorite restaurants I've tried in Chicago. Filipino brunch was amazing. We got the ube brûlée French toast, ube chicken and waffles, and the Branzino. All filling, all DELICIOUS. The ube brûlée French toast was my favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything here. The service was a bit slow, but they were a busy restaurant and we came near closing, so overall still a spectacular experience. The drinks were also yummy, and I loved all the different food/drink options they had! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bright restaurant with lots of natural sunlight through the windows created the perfect brunch scene.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Finally got to eat at Cebu for #fahm this year. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First off, the place is pretty big with tons of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu has lots of options to choose from. I ended up getting the chicken adobo chilaquiles which was good. I wish they gave more chicken adobo though. Overall solid entree! Me and my friend shared the ube french toast which was delicious and I highly recommend! All their french toast flavors sounded good it was hard to choose one. It came with alot of side elements like mini tapioca balls, rice crispies, and whipped cream which really brought the dish together. Plus, i've never had tapioca with french toast before but it pairs well together in my opinion. My only critique is that it was a little too wet/soggy from the ube sauce. I wish the sauce came on the side cause I prefer my french toast more crispy. But the ube sauce was bomb - they nailed the flavor down. FYI - The prices here are steep, I ain't ganna lie to you.

Highly recommend! Delicious food, great place for brunch! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Kid friendly - they have high chairs and diaper pail in the women's restroom with changing table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Lots of sweet and savory items to choose from. Limited vegetarian options but the cebu egg sandwich and sizzling tofu were delicious. Got the ube French toast for the table, definitely shareable and so moist and delicious. Has small boba and crispies for a crunch. Also ordered the tamarind fries with Ada boom sauce. Fries were nice and crispy and sauce was a creamy ketchup aioli type. Kids got mini pancakes which came with a yummy ube syrup Also enjoyed ube tiramisu latte , so pretty and delicious.

First time at the new location. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute spot, but very empty on a Thursday night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They were very attentive and the cocktails were really good. For 3 people, we split 5 items, heavy on the starters. My favorite items were the lumpia, pork sisig, and chicken skewers. The lumpia were nice and crispy and I really like the mix of shrimp and pork and the sauce. The pork sisig was realllly yummy. Sort of like a breakfast hash, but sizzling and just very tasty with all the different bite size components. I also really enjoyed the tenderness and the flavor of the chicken skewers. They were simple, yet not just your average bbq chicken skewer because of the Filipino style. I did also like the ceviche and the crab noodles more than I expected. The ceviche was tasty, but felt like it belonged in a Mediterranean restaurant to me with the cucumber, onion, tomato, yogurt flavor. The crab noodles were good and definitely had real crab, but I think if it was my main course it would have been a little overly crabby. We finished with the ube cheesecake which was so purple and sooo delicious. I'm not always the biggest dessert person, but it was really soft and tasty.

We happened to pass this place, and I'm so glad we stopped in. I had the Ube Brulee French Toast - "Tres Leches Ube French Toast Topped with Caramelized Sugar Crust, Ube Pastry Cream and Chewy Tapioca Pearls. A Decadent Twist on a Beloved Filipino Street-side Classic". It was incredible. My husband had the Sizzling Tofu - "Stir Fried Tofu with Garlic, Green Onion, Carrots and Mushrooms served in a piping hot sizzling plate" with a side of Garlic Rice. Also really flavorful. We made a point to return, but sadly our second visit wasn't quite as delicious. We got drinks this time - the Fruity Matcha Cream Latte and Iced Ube Tiramisu Latte. The matcha was good, but the ube latte lacked flavor. We ordered the Mango Banana French Toast and Egg Soufflé Sandwich. The sandwich was simple and good, but this French toast wasn't as flavorful and the mango wasn't very good. They have a unique menu, and I look forward to trying more of it.

We had a delicious meal at Cebu in Chicago. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The open layout is a breath of fresh air, with ample space between tables, ensuring a comfortable and uncrowded dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Drinks came with an unexpected detail: the orchid flower frozen inside the ice is a beautiful, surprising touch.  For an appetizer, don't overlook the Sizzling Gambas the description does not do them justice, they are a colorful spectacle & the sauce has a delightful sweet and sour flavor. You will be tempted to lick your fingers. Seafood lovers will appreciate the grilled "Adobo Glaze Salmon," which comes with Brussels sprouts and a secret glaze that truly elevates the dish. The real dessert showstopper is the Halo-Halo. It's big enough to share, but honestly, you won't want to.

    Ariel S.

I haven't had much Filipino food before this and I'm now a fan! We were most impressed by the appetizers, we got the lumpia and tamarind chicken wings. We were also content with our cocktails, the adobo salmon, Cebu salad (the cucumbers were not well separated and distributed but we loved the mango/cashew combo), and ube basque cheesecake. For the seafood noodles, the noodles were a little al dente for our liking, but still enjoyed the flavors. We were going to be late for our reservation, and when I called, they were super helpful to push it back for us. When we first arrived and through ordering, the service was really good, but after our food arrived, it felt like the service dropped off and we were seldom checked on. I had to flag the waiter down both to order dessert and ask for the check, resulting in us being there for 2 hours which feels long for a 2 person dinner. It's nice to not be rushed out the door, but this felt a little excessive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The setting was nice and the people around us also seemed to be having a nice time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I did think the bench could use some cushions.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had a good time and would come back to try more of the menu.

    Otto V.

This modern Filipino restaurant masterfully delivers on the promise of its culinary heritage, offering a delightful experience from breakfast through dinner.  For the appetizers, the "tuna kinilao" (ceviche) wins my heart; no strong citrus flavor here, Sashimi-grade tuna chunks are delicately marinated to allow the tuna flavor to shine along the bed of sherry tomatoes, cucumber, and onion salad, served over coconut cream; it's hard not to ask for seconds. The entrée menu features Filipino staples, but with an elevated twist. The "Rib-eye Salpicao" is a standout, boasting a rich, strong-flavored sauce that pairs perfectly with the creamy bed of mashed potatoes. And then there are the desserts, which are an adventure in themselves.  The Banana Pudding is a deconstructed masterpiece. Served in a snifter glass, each component is cooked separately, allowing you to create a unique flavor explosion with every spoonful.

Seating is pretty limited, but it looked like most folks were picking up pastries to go, but either way you order at the front one party at a time. Truffle Croissant (5/5): A must get, super intense black truffle against a perfectly flaky and chewy buttery croissant. The large bits of pearl sugar add pops of sweetness that I loved. Mango Tart (4.75/5): Mango really shines through with melt in your mouth texture and fruity sweetness. Coconut pasty cream adds almost a nutty flavor and luscious mouthfeel to contrast against the lightly crunchy cookie crust. Prosciutto Croissant (4.5/5): Pastry again impeccable with sharp saltiness from the prosciutto and cheese. Still absolutely delicious, but hard to recommend with how good the other items were. Longanisa Breakfast Sandwich (5/5): Another life changing bite. Hash brown add on is unbelievably crunchy against the egg bite that is pillowy soft and fluffy roll. Longanisa is salty and sweet, just the best way to start your morning. Lumpia (3.75/5): Comes out piping hot and the meat still stays juicy and bouncy. Good, not crazy. Filipino Breakfast with Longanisa and Tocino (4/5): Garlic rice is fluffy, but heavy on the garlic exactly like I love it. Sunny side up eggs were perfectly cooked and the two meats were actually the weakest components, a bit chewier than expected. Chicken Adobo (4.25/5): Chicken has almost a nice char on the outside and doused in a tangy sauce with crispy garlic bits. Tender and juicy, personally preferred this over the longanisa and tocino. Sweet Corn Hojicha (2/5): Only real whiff that we tried. While you could really taste the corn, unfortunately ended up being wayyyy too sweet and I couldn't have more than a sip or two.

(Also, keep in mind that mornings are walk-in only, you can't order the breakfast sandwich online like you can with the pastries, and reservations are strictly for their dinner service.) Stepping inside is a welcome relief from the sun. The interior is modern and light-filled, featuring a gorgeous pastry display at the central ordering counter. The space is tight, loud, and bustling. Which makes sense given the sheer volume of people they serve, so you'll have to try and snag one of the few seats along the edges. Once we finally ordered, the service was incredibly fast. The sandwich came out in less than 5 minutes! It was definitely a good, tasty sandwich, but I wouldn't say it was amazing. Ultimately, while I enjoyed the food and the beautiful space inside, I probably wouldn't wait 45 minutes in the blazing sun to get it again.

Bayan Ko Diner serves Filipino-Cuban fusion that doesn't disappoint…read more We ordered the following: 1. Cubano Breakfast Burrito (7/10) (beef brisket ropa vieja, soft scrambled eggs, plantains, Swiss, and black beans) Brisket and plantains? I was sold when I saw that on the menu. I'm happy to report, it was as good as it sounded. Also, the texture from the cheese, brisket, beans, and plantains was incredibly addicting. The Swiss cheese paid more of a textural role rather than flavor (compared to a different type of cheese) but I appreciated that the entire dish stuck to it's Cuban roots. For instance, Swiss is used in many prominent Cuban dishes such as the iconic Cubano sandwich. The burrito came with a red salsa which tasted pretty standard, but my recommendation is to add the hot sauce, provided at the table, to the burrito. You're welcome. 2. Sisig Shishito Hash with garlic rice (6/10) (chopped pork belly, breakfast potatoes, shishito peppers, soy black vinegar aioli, sunny side egg, toast or garlic rice) Now I am going to be totally biased here because I love anything that comes in a "Hash-style" dish. Fatty pork belly, seasoned potatoes, and a sunny side egg? It was not mind blowing and I probably won't order it again. I'd rather check out the rest of the menu, but it sounded good, looked good, and tasted good. Take that as you will. 3. Halo Halo Banana Split (5/10) (3 scoops of your choice of ice cream, turon, young coconut, red bean, coconut gel, flan, rice crispies) The ice creams are made by Milky Milky, a local Chicago small batch, handcrafted ice cream maker. For our flavors, we chose all 3 options they had at the time: ube, mango, and pandan. Homemade? Asian-inspired flavors? A wide variety of toppings? They got me again. Despite the rising popularity of ube within recent years (I am partial to taro lol), I have found not many places do it justice. THIS ube? We found a winner. Finally, a STRONG ube flavor that isn't lackluster or bland. The mango ice cream was fine and the pandan was too salty in my opinion. Pandan is one of my favorite ice cream flavors and I haven't tasted one that I haven't liked...until this one. Also, the rice crispies are so simple but add textural interest. Service was good. The atmosphere was cozy, but not cramped. The interior had jewel tones with a modern boho style that pays homage to the restaurant's Filipino-Cuban heritage.

Moody, fine dining Filipino restaurant in ravenswood/north center Chicago…read more The experience of this place really starts when you enter the restaurant. I was a big fan of the interior. Dark moody lighting with warm colored lamps really sets the tone for the meal you are about to eat. Service was incredibly kind and attentive. Everyone's so lovely. The food is exactly what you'd expect - elevated Filipino and overall INCREDIBLE. Here's what we got/my thoughts. Coco ginger daiquiri - 5/5 - really refreshing. You could taste each component of the drink which was fun to experience. Sisig - 4/5 - I'll start by saying I'm really particular about my sisig. For sisig to be a 5 for me, it *has* to be crunchy. And that's the only thing this sisig was missing. For coming out on a sizzling plate, it was a little too wet, even after the sizzling. Despite this though, the flavors were there and they were delicious. Garlic rice - 5/5 - best garlic rice I've ever had in my life. Just get it. That's all I have to say. Pancit canton - 4/5 - if I'm being honest, it's hard to really elevate pancit canton. But this was a good attempt, it just seemed to be missing something to put it over the top. Really appreciated the fresh vegetables with the noodles. Lumpia - 5/5 - like pancit canton, it seems hard to elevate lumpia but they freaking did it. This was so good. The filling was nice and juicy and had great flavor. Kare Kare - 5/5 - Kare Kare was my favorite dish growing up but I've never experienced it elevated to such a high level until boonies. The meat was so tender, cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. The vegetables being carmelized was also quite the treat. Didn't realize until after the fact that the sauce isn't made with peanuts, so huge plus that gives our peanut allergic friends the opportunity to experience such an amazing dish. So well done.

Being a Filipina myself, I'm…read moretorn between labeling it because I feel like some of the dishes are more Filipino-inspired while others are definitely elevated-Filipino. Either way, it's a good place to try a twist on your favorites or dip into something new. I especially appreciated that there were a lot of vegetarian options which is hard to find in Filipino food, like our "veggie" lumpia usually has small bits of meat in it, lol. We were warmly welcomed, seated relatively quickly, and the service was attentive and timely. The place is cozy and on the dark side so my pics aren't the greatest. We had the Inihaw ng Talong which is basically grilled eggplant that came brushed with sunflower butter, loaded with tomatoes and garnished with cilantro. This was a nice start but a small one. The eggplant was smoky and creamy and complimented by the bright tomatoes. The Satti Manok, skewered grilled chicken, with cornbread sticky rice was good, but I've definitely had better for a lot less. This is usually a staple you'll find at any Filipino family's BBQ but the cornbread sticky rice was a surprisingly nice treat. If you've had this before, somewhere else, I'd skip it to try something else. The Sinigang Caesar was such a nice twist that totally made sense! My only complaint is that it was served with Bibb lettuce instead of a crunchy romaine. I enjoyed this so much I've been making my Caesar dressings with a sprinkling of Sinigang powder now and my family loves it. The Kare Kare gulay was nice and I enjoyed it. The charred cabbage gave it some extra depth that I think is needed to pull this off because this sauce is made with sunflower butter instead of peanut butter. This was great for me because I'm allergic to peanuts but it definitely changes the flavor, making it a little sweeter and lighter. I wish they would've made this with cashew or almond butter to keep it closer to the rich, deep flavors of a Kare Kare. The Maitake mushrooms -- I absolutely loved. I've never had this before and it reminded me of a good Laing which is also made with a spiced coconut sauce. I definitely could've eaten this all to myself with the garlic rice. Yes, the garlic rice is good but I was surprised to see it go for $6 a bowl. Rice is usually so cheap, if not complementary in Filipino restaurants and garlic rice is quite common, especially for breakfast (yes, I sabreakfast). It was cooked perfectly though. The mango float was delicious. Not sure why it's called a float but it was mango and mascarpone ice cream nestled in a mango sauce and topped with a delicate, crumbly butter cookie. I will definitely come back for more if I'm ever in the area again. I'd be excited to try other things on their menu.

March Madness is currently going on and was playing in the restaurant. We are basketball fans so this was a plus, and we were asked if the game that was currently on was our preferred game to watch, which was very thoughtful. The food was incredible. The eggrolls were incredibly flavorful and the chicken in the chicken adobo fell off the bone easily. The sauce on the chicken was delicious and it mixed so well with the garlic rice. We cannot wait to bring friends and family to this restaurant in the future. The hot food made us feel so whole on a cold and extremely windy day. In the summer, I cannot wait to sit on their spacious, covered patio. Thank you Kubo for a wonderful experience!

We had the chicken lumpia, first which were long not like the normal finger length I'm used to. Lots of tender meat inside. Wow. Then had the lechon kawaii, deep fried sea bass and the pancit with rice noodles. We were knocked out by the presentation of the sea bass. OMG it was perfectly crispy, The flavors were clean and fresh. Definitely a must order. The pork belly was also perfectly cooked. The pancit loaded with chicken and veggies. This is a must return place. THe inside was cozy and not noisy. We could talk without shouting.

Bayan Ko was honestly just amazing…read more The food was insanely good--every bite hit. Nothing felt overworked or pretentious, just really thoughtful, well-executed dishes that tasted incredible. It's the kind of place where you can tell there's a great chef behind the food, but it still feels homey, comfortable, and genuinely welcoming. We did the wine pairing and it was fantastic. Our server kept refining it throughout the meal, adjusting pours and choices as we went, which made the whole experience feel personal instead of scripted. Everything paired beautifully and actually made the food better. The vibe is casual in the best way--warm, relaxed, and fun--while still delivering food that easily deserves Michelin-level recognition. No gimmicks, no misses, just really good food made by people who clearly care. 11/10. Would go back immediately.

The food was really good but I had higher expectations. The tamale Cubano was one of my favorites and the kare Kare was good. The dessert was also really good. Amazing amazing service! I don't think we will come back because we can definitely get food as good for cheaper somewhere else Chicago; it was a great experience to try one time.
