Ok so Lula brunch goes just as hard as the dinner! I've tried the breakfast burrito, matcha bostock, coconut financier, the tineka, the baked French feta, and the carrot cake. The breakfast burrito is 100% worth the hype. Such buttery fluffy soft eggs w a ton of cheese & the most flavorful sauces (my personal fave was the red sauce)! This thing is massive - I had half and saved the other half for later. The pastries were 10/10 no notes. Very fresh, perfect textures, not overly sweet. The tineka was a flavor bomb! The bread was phenomenal. There's some type of sweet n slightly spicy chutney(?) that really gave it a pop of flavor. The slaw that comes w it was amazing as well. The carrot cake was so moist, perfectly spiced, and the right amount of sweet. Critique: while the baked French feta was good, I think this is the most overpriced dish for what is essentially a small block of feta with some sourdough and a couple pieces of olives and cucumbers. Lula Cafe is an example of a place where the quality of the food carries the experience - yes, our waiter and the hostess were kind, but we left just repeating "that was so good, wow, that was so good" - the chickpea fritters were dazzling. the outer shell was a perfectly zatar seasoned crisp that you could not tell was made of chickpea at all. it wrapped around a somehow still mushy/grainy chickpea mash, providing perfect textures in each bite. the fritters were dipped in a mustard sauce that had the exact texture of whipped cream. as you ran the fritter through the dip, little air bubbles popped up. the dip was smooth & creamy with only an aftertaste twang of mustard - the sea bream somehow balanced a burnt snappy outer layer of fish with a flakey light inside. the sauce was rich and drenched into the folds of the supple fish. the patty pan squash provided a fresh spurt amidst bites of creamy buttery goodness. I thought this was to die for - the pasta Yai Yai is a speciality here, and the ingredient list (brown butter, feta, and cinnamon) was intriguing. the pasta was perfectly al dente, long and thick pieces of bucatini. my dining companion loved this dish and was shocked how well the ingredients went together. I thought it was tasty but I could not get a real blend of the flavors, more just tasted "ok cinnamon" and "ok feta" separately, not much of a blend. - the Bavette steak could have been cut with a spoon. the most tender cut of beef in a sweet and sour balsamic sauce. the vegetables, cauliflower and broccoli, were cooked in different seasoning than the steak, providing for more complexity. the slivers of grapes brought out the sweetness of the balsamic. read more

Lula Cafe delivered on unique flavor, great service and a casual, yet upscale vibe. To start I got the onion focaccia bread. It was warm, salty, buttery and the onions were fantastic. The caramelization of the onions was tangy, sweet and savory. I got the famous pasta yiayia for my main dish and wow!!!! The bucatini noodles held the dynamics of the dish together so well. The feta cheese was creamy and had notes of sweetness and savoriness. The garlic cloves added good texture and earthiness. To be around for nearly 30 years and still have this much hype is saying something. I stayed in an Airbnb a few blocks away from Lula for like a month last year, and every time I wandered by, there was a wait. Fast forward to last week, and I finally made it in. Cheers for me, guys. And now that I've been, I just want to come back. That food is good. So, so very good.... Vegan options galore, and not just some bullshit afterthoughts. The sweet potato soup with garlic was a great starter, especially with that perfectly thick bread. The "Tineka," a spicy peanut butter sandwich with all kinds of fresh veg, was another hit. Fresh, salty, beautifully toasted. Even the side of slaw was elevated beyond the norm. But the one I'll be dreaming of is the Chickpea & Fennel Tagine. Green harissa, golden raisins, preserved lemon, arugula, and more of that amazing grilled bread. My god. Tagine is a slow-cooked African dish that jams pounds of flavor into each bite, and this bowl was through the roof. The apertif menu? Bonus points for that one. The ambiance was perfect with background salsa and cha cha playing for a perfect upbeat mood. We ordered some focaccia, clams, and the Vichyssoise for smaller items and had the pasta yia yia, ramps & wild rice, and the chickpea and fennel tagine. Everything was spectacular, and the favorite dishes of the group were the clams, the super unique pasta yia yia, and ramps & wild rice. Each dish had such unique flavors and complemented each other very well. For dessert, we all got a scoop of the London fog straciatella, which may now be my favorite ice cream flavor of all time. We've talked about going here for the longest time and finally a couple of weeks ago we stood in that long line that forms before every Sunday opening. Once the doors opened the line moved swiftly as parties were greeted and seated by an equally long line of servers. On a nice day, the patio fills up quickly but there are quite a few tables. The inside is actually much more spacious than I expected. We ended up on the patio as the weather was splendid. It was great for people watching all of the farmers market patrons. We started with their baked feta. A truly magical dish with delicious sourdough that acts as the perfect vessel to sop up the oils that coat the pan. We each ordered the pancakes and a side of sausage. We could have easily shared an order as they were super filling. I'm glad we finally made it here. If you're going there on Sundays, you can always go to the farmers market before if they're open before! The only negative thing is not all of the waiters are very helpful. Most of our meals were of the run-and-gun type, so we figured we should make time for at least one classic brunch. We'd heard good things about Lula Cafe, so we decided to pop over on a Saturday morning. It was just after 9:00 but the place was already hopping. After a short wait, we were shown to bar-type seating near the back of the restaurant. It was perfect. I can never say no to a breakfast burrito, so we decided to share their Classic Lula Breakfast Burrito ("avocado, tomato, potato, cheddar, green chile soffritto, and soft scrambled eggs") and holy moly was it ever good. Every ingredient was above average and placed with care, and I was impressed by the perfectly-cooked eggs. (There was nothing bouncy about these eggs, that's for sure.) Because we're pigs, we decided to also share the Lox Toast ("house cured organic salmon, gribiche, lula seeded rye") and it too was very, very good. Finally, we each got the Fruit Cup and somehow it was also amazing. The fruits were cut really well and there wasn't a bad bite to be had. Yeah, I can see why Lula Cafe is doing so well. They're served with two salsas and sour cream and are probably the biggest portion there. Hubby got the Royale breakfast sandwich. He said it was exactly what it said but underwhelming. I had one bite and thought the bread was a little dry. That's all I remember about it. Daughter got the spring crepe, and it was the highlight of the meal. It's a yellow cornmeal crepe with lavender whipped ricotta, green strawberries, rhubarb and candied almonds. It was so good. Only wish there was more. The food was really good and they have a cute little outdoor area. However, the server I had wasn't nice or friendly. I said hi with a smile when she approached the table and she didn't say anything and poured water and walked away. She came back a minute later and asked if i was ready to order with zero friendliness, hospitality, or even a crack of a smile. Honestly, not to pull this card but i work in the service industry too and i could never imagine being so monotone and robotic to guests. One of the best brunch spots in Chicago and I now know why! Lula Cafe is a cozy brunch & dinner spot in Logan Square. They take classic brunch items and elevate them in a familiar way. Getting there right at open was no problem to snag a table. They have three separate dining areas which helps keep noise down; but, features a main kitchen/barista area centrally so all rooms can see the action. We started with a Chai Latte and their seasonal Sadie Hawkins Latte. The chai had a great spiced flavor to it and frothy top. My Sadie Hawkins Latte was subtly packed with flavor. The chocolate-cherry notes were perfect for a cozy/cold morning. Lula uses Metric coffee beans which is both local and highly awarded. For food, we shared the French Omelet, French Toast, and Classic Lula Breakfast Burrito. I have no notes for the French Omelet. If you have never tried one before, the craftsmanship and detail that goes into cooking one is impressive enough before you even taste it and fall in love. The egg is rolled with a creamy inside yet it is all egg. I thoroughly enjoyed the buttered baguette and greens to pair. The French Toast was our sweet treat amongst the options. The flavor combo was delicious and I actually preferred the dish without too much of the whipped cream cheese. The Breakfast Burrito was large and filling. The inside was cheesy and I loved the salsa verde it was paired with. It brightened all the flavors of ingredients inside the burrito. If the food and drinks weren't enough, the hospitality and service here blew me away. It strongly aligns with its Michelin Bib Gourmand status with the casual atmosphere, quality ingredients, unique food offering, and high service level. I cannot recommend Lula Cafe more when looking for brunch in the city! Tip: Try to come right when they open at 9am. When we visited, there was already a line of 25 people 10 minutes before open. The food here is delicious. I had a bit of the fennel custard bun and the cream filling paired nicely with the bun. I tried the beet bruschetta and the beets weren't overpowering at all. The cream cheese balanced the flavor and it was nice and refreshing. The rest of my family had the royale sandwiches and they loved it. I had the white corn polenta and if you do not like olives, do NOT order this dish. The olives overpowered the polenta. I pulled out about 10 olives, ate the polenta with my scrambled eggs but it was a lot. So I didn't finish it. I have thoroughly enjoyed each dish ordered from here--namely their chicken and rice and chickpea and fennel tagine. You must try this restaurant! I've heard many great things about Lula Cafe from different people, so I decided to go for a (belated) birthday dinner. It was pretty hard to get a reservation for a Saturday evening, but we persevered and got one for a party of 4. Overall, I think this place is unfortunately overhyped. For food, we ordered the chickpea frites, the mafaldine, the pan roasted cod, the pasta yia yia, and the roast chicken. The chickpea frites and pan roasted cod were just fine, really nothing special in my opinion. The pan roasted cod had a nice crust on the fish and tasted great, but did smell a bit on the fishy side before I took a bite. I'm not sure what the pasta yia yia is supposed to be, but its flavor profile was rather strange to me. The roast chicken was sadly on the dry side, especially the breast which was definitely overcooked. For dessert, I got to try the carrot cake which was delicious, and also an Earl Grey stracciatella gelato which I surprisingly really liked. The restaurant is pretty bustling and vibes were great. Our server checked in once in a while, but didn't feel particularly welcoming. I also found the prices to be rather high for what they are actually serving on each plate. I don't think I'll come back for dinner, but maybe their brunch is really good, so I would consider giving that a try another day. Came here on a Friday afternoon around 2pm. We were able to get a paid parking spot down the street. We walked in and it smells very good in the entry way. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table of 6. The menu is so fun and has some unique dishes. My friend and i split the Lulu'99 Turkey Sandwich and the Pasta 'Yiayia'. I'm so glad we tried both of these dishes. I loved them both! The turkey sandwich had a great chile aioli and the bread was crunchy. The coleslaw was also delicious and I usually don't like coleslaw. The pasta was so different but delicious. The noodles were very thick and I loved the pieces of garlic. The portion was also much bigger than i thought. I was pleasantly full once I was done eating. This is my third time eating at Lula Cafe. The first time was for brunch a few years ago and the second time was just for drinks and dessert when we were in the area. This most recent time we came for brunch. Every experience has been pretty average to me, and this most recent time the service was lacking a little. Their pastries and desserts are always really unique and tasty though! We came on a Sunday around 11:45am and were told it would be a two hour wait, but the bar is first come first serve so we ended up sitting at the bar. Our food was taking a long time, while it seemed like everyone else at the bar was getting their food about 10 minutes after ordering since breakfast food is typically quick. After about 35 minutes of waiting, the server eventually noticed we never got our food and went to the kitchen. About 5 minutes later, our food came out. She told us it was because the kitchen lost our ticket and I appreciate the communication, but overall, the servers at the bar seemed pretty distracted the entire time, so part of me thinks our order never even got entered. I also felt like our seats at the end of the bar were easily forgotten about/ignored, and the servers tended to stay more towards the other end. I'm grateful we were offered a free dessert or pastry to make up for the wait. We chose the carrot cake to-go and it was delicious! I ordered the seasonal latte, the french toast off the April 2026 menu, and side of breakfast potatoes. The french toast featured superkhana chai dulce de leche, orange curd, whipped cream cheese, and parle-g crumble. If you like orange and citrusy flavors, you would probably love this french toast. The quality of the ingredients and preparation were great but the flavor was really lacking and the texture felt much more mushy than I was anticipating. One of my all time favorite brunch spots in Chicago. We moved away from Chicago 5 years ago but were in town for the weekend and decided to pop back in to Lula on Saturday for brunch. It was as cute and delicious as I remembered. It's tucked away in Logan Square and has a good amount of seating spread between 2 rooms. We got there around 10am and had about a 5 minute wait. The menu is delicious from the pastries to the omelets and everything in between. I've only had brunch here so I can't comment on lunch or dinner menus. One of our party is vegan and got a tofu scramble which was excellent! I got a form of garlicky biscuits and gravy with an over easy egg which was also excellent. The staff were great with checking on us but they refilled our water A LOT - Which I'm thankful for but it would sort of interrupt our conversation and it was every 5 or so minutes. We absolutely LOVED having Lula cater our wedding! We had a family style dinner and everyone was raving about it. So many of our guests said it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding, and we (although biased) agree! The tasting was fabulous and the food turned out even better than we remembered. The staff was kind, helpful, even brought out more short rib for the tables that gobbled it up fast, and our guests with dietary restrictions were able to eat as well.
