I prefer to go to a hair salon because otherwise it seems everyone wants to give you a buzz cut. Being new to the area, I found Linda's salon on Yelp. Basic points about the salon: 1. It's big and well-established - They seem equipped to do a huge range of things for women, above and beyond the other places. They also were much cleaner, spiffier, and were twice the size of any other place I passed by. The salon's also been used for women on some of the makeover TV shows. 2. Great, helpful staff - Really friendly, and I liked them a lot. They gave me a lot of pointers about the area, which I really appreciated. 3. Fluent English speakers - I know it's the Bronx, but three places I'd visited nearby struggled to answer me when asking "can you give me a haircut?". Seemed like decent salons, but made me worried about how I'd further convey the "no buzz cut" concept :) 4. Surprisingly good price - $15 for a haircut. 5. Good haircut - My wife approved and liked it. They didn't scalp me or get scissor-happy or anything, I thought it was a good haircut too. I'd recommend this place to women to try out - seems like the best salon place within three miles of here. I'd recommend it to men too.

It's been a week since I had the "In & Out" service (wash, steam treatment, trim, no shaping or…read morestyling). I waited to write a review until after I washed and styled my hair myself, because that's when the truth comes out. My biggest concern was my curl pattern. I have had my hair blown out by different stylists in order to get a trim/cut, and a lot of the time there was at least minimal damage to my curl pattern. The Natural Masters stylist told me that she was going to be gentle and had used a heat protectant, so there wouldn't be any damage. Mmmmmmkaaaayyyy, side eye, side eye. But she was right. No noticeable damage. My hair feels fantastic and, even though she didn't specifically shape my hair, the shape is pretty good. I've seen a number of reviews that say the stylists make up pricing on the spot. "Determine pricing" is probably a more accurate way to put it. I was told that the price is dependent on length, which makes sense to me. My hair was bra-strap length when blown out, so on the longer side. The consultation + In & Out + scalp treatment cost $245. That's more than I've ever spent on a wash, deep condition, and trim, but worth it to me since I've never had such high quality versions of these services. The receptionist was kind and welcoming, the space was clean and well-appointed, and it was a very relaxing experience. My one complaint is that no one (including my stylist) introduced themselves. I'm only realizing this now since I'd like to give the receptionist and the stylist their due, but you know who you are - so thank you for such a great appointment!

Predatory practices - The last thing I wanted to do was…read moreleave a bad review for a local business but I have been left with a very bad taste in my mouth . I put a same day deposit for services which I was only told at the time would be deducted from the total. Apparently there was an email sent AFTER the phone conversation with the company policy which states they reserve the right to keep the deposit ( please see attached photograph). If I knew about the deposit being non refundable PRIOR TO /OR DURING booking , I would have done a walk in instead. After being told the service would cost almost $300, the service was declined and would not be refunded or transferred to another service. I asked to speak with the manager and was assured she would call me back that day. 1 week later, I have followed up and received a call back from Ms. Pauline. She attempted to be helpful but I found her tone and referring to me as "honey" instead of by my name ( as I did her) was very condescending. There was no offer of an apology just more explanation of why they were in the right and the customer who only received a consultation was in the wrong. I'm going to chuck up my $55 deposit as a "consultation fee" but it leaves me with no good word to spread about this company.

She conditioned my hair thoroughly & blew out a section to show me how it looked (because I was in a bind for time and couldn't stay for the full blow out). She took good care of me. I'm excited to have found a hair stylist that is fluent in English at this salon because it makes for a better overall experience. Nanci does a great job. Kimme K's Natural Hair Salon…read more If you know me you know I will research a business the best I can.  I had the most amazing experience.  The staff were professional,  knowledgeable and inviting.  The place was clean and followed proper protocol during the pandemic. All staff had access to and wore proper PPE.  The owner and I talked for many hours about hair care, self care and community engagement.   Not only did I come out with an amazing hairstyle, my soul was filled.  We laughed, shared stories, and laughed some more.  Thank You to the team at Kimmie K's, I will surely be back!
