Great place to stop on your way to High Falls Gorge. We visited on a Tuesday around 11:45 am. They close at 1 pm these days. Only serve breakfast but it made for a wonderful brunch for us. The menu is simple but we all chose the specials. - homemade corned beef hash breakfast with eggs -homemade biscuits and gravy with two eggs breakfast And the house fav - custard 1.5-inch thick french toast. To die for! Everything sweet comes with real maple syrup (is there really any other worth eating?!?!) My toddlers fell asleep in the car on the way there and then woke up and promptly had an emotional cry at the table for various reasons and the staff and other patrons were supremely gracious with us as we took the kids outside to cool off and then back in... even when we spilled the syrup on the floor by accident. They make food here with a lot of heart and helped us to feel welcome. Don't miss it!

WOW! By far the best breakfast spot that I've experienced! This is perfect for before skiing to Whiteface or finishing off your ski weekend in Wilmington! The french toast is HUGE , which is delicious with the special combo! Omelette was pretty good, tasted home made which we were looking for. Definitely worth every penny, your stomach will be happy and thank you. There's nothing to complain about, I wish I could eat this EVERYDAY! You also can't argue with free refills of coffee (I love my morning coffee so having another refill was AMAZING!!) Everyone is super friendly, a locals spot with great conversations. *CASH ONLY COVID: masks required, everything was every other booth which is great for COVID distance safety & sanitized between customers

We went to Santa's Workshop at the North Pole, NY and Santa couldn't say enough good things about the French Toast at The Country Bear, so we just knew we had to go! He was sooooooo right in everything he said!!! I got the French Toast with farm-fresh fried eggs and a sausage patty. My husband got eggs, hashbrowns, bacon and homemade wheat bread toast. We think it was the cafe owner who served us, and she was a sweetheart. Took as much delight in our delight as we did! Awwww .... so sweet! Reasonably priced and local, individually-owned (versus big business chain). Hope you'll go while in the area -- it feels like everyone who lives there year-round frequents this restaurant, which is a ringing endorsement!

Love this cute little family restaurant. Best place to go for breakfast if you're staying anywhere in the Adirondacks. The reviews were right about the french toast...you definitely have to try it. It's made on homemade bread and lives up to the hype. The sausage links were phenomenal as well. Come here if you can!!!

Delicious breakfast spot in Wilmington, NY with daily specials, friendly-service and awesome pancakes! This is actually the only breakfast place/diner we know of in town, and it is a very small place, so there's sometimes a short wait but I've never seen anyone wait more than 15 minutes and we're there pretty regularly in the summer. One little warning - and it is not exclusive to the Country Bear but to businesses in the Adk region in general - call right before you go to make sure they're actually open! We've had a few times when despite the hours posted online, we arrive at a place to find they're randomly closed. As you can imagine, when you're hangry and restaurants are scarce, it's not a good scene to make the trip out to a place that's supposed to be open to find it dark and empty. We love the Bear, but do yourself a favor and even if Google or the website claims they are open, give them a ring before you leave to be sure.

We were lucky to get in early, soon after they opened, because this place fills up fast! This is a small, cozy eatery with a hometown vibe. The owners are friendly and the food is very good. I had eggs over easy with country ham, honey oat toast, OJ and coffee. My friend had a 3-egg veggie omelet with home fries, coffee and toast. Huge portions at a fair price. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

I've been…read morevisiting Lake Placid for years, but only discovered this bakery this year, mostly by following its patrons who were perambulating around the Main Street with what looked like amazing little scones. Speaking of said scones, they're fantastic. If you're expecting biscuit-line scones, these might be a bit of a disappointment. These are on the bread-ier side of the pastry spectrum, but no less satisfying. We tried the blueberry almond scone and the raspberry white chocolate, and both were scarfed down within minutes. I also love that these aren't sickly sweet. Paired with a latte (for which I highly, highly recommend getting a pump of the hazelnut syrup), Bluesberry Bakery was responsible for supplying some of the best breakfasts we had during our stay in Lake Placid. City folks ought to temper their expectations. This is a small town bakery on a quaint main street, and inside, space is tight. There isn't any seating space, and if two or more groups of customers come in simultaneously, the rest of the queue has to wait outside the door. But things behind the counter are manned by a small, dedicated crew of folks who keep things moving. As with any bakery that makes things fresh, come as soon as the urges hit; when they're out, they're out. I learned this the hard way when I came late afternoon for a scone and found they were sold out.

I loved that each item had the simple ingredients listed with it on the name-- this made it easy for needing to ask if you have food allergies, but also terrific to see that the treats are made with basic ingredients like you'd use at home! I tried a snickerdoodle whoopie pie with cream cheese icing inside. The cookies were perfect and the frosting was a bit on the super sweet side but that's how I like my frosting so it was delicious! My mom got a slice of pie- the flavor was pretty good but since it was kept in the fridge, the crust lost a bit of the crunch/flakiness. We bought a take and bake frozen raspberry pie for the next time we have guests over. Mom also got a brownie, which she said was very good as well. The wide selection of pre made salads and sandwiches looked great as well as the large selection of take and bake meals and side dishes. This is my favorite type of a local gem to discover. It's a perfect spot to stop on the way to or from Lake Placid. I actually visited twice in the same day! It's open Friday-Monday (as of when I visited in November'23). I think I'll actually head back to that area next weekend and stop back in to pick up a few gifts and some more baked goods! Update--- We also did end up going back to the shop the following weekend for some more shopping. Customer service could use some improvement. **As I said in my main review, we bought a frozen pie to take and bake. We baked it for Thanksgiving l there was no scent while it baked which was unusual. It wasn't the prettiest looking when it came out of the oven. More unfortunately, no one liked it! My mom said it was the worst she's ever tasted. The crust was so thick and the filling and crust both had a strange aftertaste. This was very disappointing because the treats we had in the store were delicious. If the review was based only on the pie, I'd be a 1/5 stars.

From the welcoming "a place upstate" Adirondack chair out front to the cozy, shingle-sided exterior, this spot perfectly captures that rustic, high-peaks aesthetic. But it's the quality of the brew that truly sets it apart. The Espresso The espresso at Capisce is a masterclass in balance. It's rich and full-bodied with a velvety crema that hints at the care put into every pull. You won't find any bitterness here--just a smooth, complex shot that serves as the perfect foundation for their signature drinks. The Lattes Whether you need to warm up after a chilly morning at the lake or cool down after a mountain bike ride, their lattes are top-tier: Hot Lattes: The milk is steamed to a perfect micro-foam consistency--silky, sweet, and light. It blends beautifully with the espresso, creating a comforting drink that feels as artisanal as the surroundings. Iced Lattes: These are exceptionally refreshing. They manage to keep the espresso flavor front and center without letting the milk or ice wash it out. It's the ideal companion for a sunny afternoon on the patio. The Atmosphere There is something uniquely relaxing about grabbing a drink and sitting among the trees and rocks outside this cabin-style shop. It's clearly a favorite for locals and travelers alike, and for good reason--the "upstate" vibe is genuine, and the coffee is world-class. The service is full of happiness. When we first saw the pseudo-chalet looking building, we were struck by the name "Sugar Shack," immediately thinking of the iconic places you can find in many upper New England states that process maple sap into syrup and also into other sugary yummies. But then we noticed that the name also indicated "Dessert Company" and realized maybe it wasn't just about maple syrup and sweets. So we peeked in the window, looked at the big chalk menu which listed sandwiches, and decided to have our last breakfast here before departing. The interior is as puzzling - in a sense - as our initial impression. Yes, there is a bright display case filled with some delectable and delightful-looking pastries, muffins, donuts, and cookies. But then, there is a slushy machine right inside the door (?), and shelves of souvenirs (maple syrup in a variety of bottles), boxes of pre-packaged, brand-name chocolates and other candy, and chips to accompany your lunch sandwich. A diverse and wide-ranging mix in my mind. Our sandwiches were made on a small griddle like you would find in anyone's home and wrapped in foil for us. (We chose to eat them at one of the two tiny seats - I think there may have been 4 seats - inside, by the window). The sandwiches were fine...but that's about as far as I can go. We saw a "For Sale" sign near the door indicating the business was up for grabs and from all appearances, the person running it now is doing everything in their power to make a go of it. But without creating a more unique and efficient, competitive business, the end may be in sight.
