I was looking for a unique, cheap restaurant near the Griffin MSI, and this one was a lucky find! The chicken is juicy and flavorful, with nice charred veggies mixed in. The rice was amazingly fluffy, spiced and accompanied the chicken well. Overall a good value, good taste. Service is fast, and the water inside the restaurant has citrus and mint flavors mixed in, though unsure if it's always served that way. Decent Mediterranean food near the University of Chicago campus. Located in a strip shopping center, parking was so easy on a Saturday night. Order at the counter. Started with the Hummus Sudki Style and a Sheperd's Salad to share with our party of five. Classic hummus with pine nuts, olive oil, parsley and sumac. Next time I would ask for less olive oil as it was too oily. The salad was fantastic! Romaine lettuce with a kitchen sink of my favorites!! Dates, goat cheese, pecans and roasted corn tossed with a honey Dijon vinaigrette. So delicious! Next, the classics. Shawarma and falafel. The falafel wrap is filled with falafel, tomatoes, cucumbers, mango chutney and a spicy harissa tahini served with a side of fries. The falafel plate comes with basmati rice and grilled veggies. The chicken shawarma wrap also is filled with cucumbers and tomatoes and comes with a side of fries. I opted for something different. The lamb barbacoa tacos were interesting. The nutty salsa, harissa tahini and sumac pico gave a little kick. The basmati rice was light and delicious. Service was good. Next time I would get the salad with added falafel. I came for the wings and will be returning for their tacos. We came on a late Sunday morning. They were a little quiet with maybe one person picking up a takeout order. We placed our order a the counter and didn't have to wait long for our food to be made. We ordered their 6 piece Harissa Glazed Chicken Wingz, their Arab Swab Tacos and their Watermelon Sugar drink. The harissa wings have been on my radar for some time and I'm glad I finally got a chance to come down here. They were costed in harissa tahini, topped with a garlic sauce and served with fries. The wings were delicious. Perfectly fried and very filling with the fries. But the highlight of this lunch was their Arab Swag Tacos. The meat was covered in the same harissa tahini and a nutty chili salsa, with roasted corn. They put a lot of meat in this tacos and they were really delicious. These were served with rice. Best way to eat this is directly on top of the rice. Anything that falls off the taco you can mix it with the rice and empty the rice that way. My wife really enjoyed this place as well and we can't wait to come back. read more

Not the place I remember from pre-pandemic. Format has changed from mid-scale "date night" restaurant to reasonably fast casual food and carry out. Menu is more limited; no more dolmades. We had the chicken shawarma and the lentil soup. The food was good, but too salty for my taste, especially the yogurt sauce. The staff was very friendly. You place the order at the counter and your order is brought to the table if you're eating in. For people of our means and taste, it no longer offers the special occasion atmosphere we used to enjoy. The falafel wrap is delicious - one of the best falafel wraps I've had in Chicago! The fries that come with the wrap are crispy and perfectly seasoned, though I would also recommend the grilled vegetables that one can replace the fries with. A friend has also greatly enjoyed the falafel Arab swag tacos. The restaurant is always happy to veganize their dishes when requested to do so. Their hummus is delicious and flavourful, but the most outstanding item on the menu is in fact their chocolate chip cookie. It is truly a stellar cookie! The servers are attentive and friendly, and the ambience is unassuming but clean. Most people prefer to get takeout/delivery from Cedar's but I think there is a certain charm to dining at the restaurant. Make sure to take advantage of the Cedar's online ordering system, where you can earn points on every order. We originally checked out this spot for a comedy show, but decided to come early for the food. We got falafel, chicken wings, Arab swag tacos, & watermelon sugar. The Falafel was nice and crisp on the outside, but soft on the inside, and I loved it with the dill sauce that came with it. The flavor in the Arab swag tacos & chicken wings was PHENOMENAL! I highly recommend this spot. Entrees are $14-16 at this time. Cash & card accepted. The staff was super nice and welcoming. The parking lot was large with plenty of spots, and free. If you get a chance to check out their comedy show, do yourself a favor and go. 50% of all proceeds benefit Palestine, and the comedians were hilarious! Consistently a great spot for Mediterranean food. I appreciate that the sides compliment the main dish and that they are an even amount. For instance, in the falafel bowl, the grilled veggies balance out the amount of rice given. They have some of the best falafel I have ever had, and the sauce that comes with it takes the dish to another level. The entree portions are generally large, but not enough so that it can't be finished in one sitting. I've also had their chicken shawarma wrap, shepherd's salad and the cookie (sign up for their text / loyalty updates for your first free one!), and nothing was disappointing. Ordering via call-in elicits the quickest service for me, and the restaurant is always clean (though I never see it busy, which leads me to believe most of their service is takeout). read more

Well I went past night roughly about 30 minutes to closing time and I was still greeted warmly by the staff! I ordered the falafel plate to go and I was not disappointed! The falafel's were crispy on the outside and inside was mist and perfectly seasoned but the star was the roasted vegetables! They were tender but still had a little bite and were so flavorful! And no complaints about the rice or the pita, I wish I would have asked for additional dill sauce because it was sooo good! Very helpful and greeting you with a smile. There are options to dine in or do carryout. I've done both and enjoy each one. I popped in to place and order to go and had a lot of bags with me and was very flustered but he was patient and explained the menu to me and made me feel comfortable taking a seat at one of the tables while I waited. Cedars is a quick sit down restaurant, though I got my food to-go. In walking in I was greeted nicely, and my order was placed enthusiastically with an employee. The transaction was quick and personable. My order was ready in about 10-15mins. It was fresh and hot. I ordered the swag tacos (it comes with 3) and OMG were they great. It's been quite some time since I've actually had the pizza and Medicis I live right in the neighborhood and usually go there to their café for just coffee and a person. This time we went with friends and a kid of course the kid wanted pizza so we went ahead and ordered, but then sausage and pepperoni pizza when it came out it was absolutely amazing. The crust is undeniably one of the best crust I've had in a long time very nice and thin, but not too flaky and crunchy it was able to handle the toppings. I was very impressed with the cook the taste and the overall del deliciousness of the pizza. There is a really good beer and wine selection available too along with the extensive kids menu. We saw some other Andres come out and they looked amazing. I'm glad I decided to revisit this location. Cedars delivers to the Woodlawn area, so we opted to stay in on our final evening and get some tasty Mediterranean right at our doorstep. We placed our order online and it seemed like it got delivered to us in no time. I feel like the prices are pretty reasonable - my meal was sub $15 bucks, which for Chicago dinner seems like not a bad deal. My friend and I both ordered the chicken shawarma plates. My other friend got a falafel wrap and the last of us ordered the harissa wings. She's the resident Chicagoan and raves about them, saying she orders them all the time. I didn't try any, but they did smell divine. My other friend said the falafel in her wrap was the best she'd had in a while. I tried a bite of their potato sides and they were really good - super buttery and crispy. I enjoyed my chicken shawarma meal. The rice was fluffy and plentiful and the chicken pieces were still moist. I do wish the vegetables had been a little more diverse; it was mostly onions with a couple of peppers mixed in. Overall, I can absolutely see the appeal of this place. Love that they do delivery. I'd be curious to see what it's like to dine in! I hate to be one of those Hyde Park cranks who refuses to accept change, but I'm not sure I approve of the constant changes to Cedar's menu. The latest iteration, which is "street" food, gave me lamb barbacoa tacos which had dried out tortillas and too much of something a lot like mayonnaise on them. A lot of other menu items are gone. And they won't even sell you a Diet Coke. I probably won't be back until the menu changes yet again. read more
