Chestertown Animal Hospital - Blood from a shot on her little arm

Don't trust this place or the vet!! They gave my kitten an bad infection!!!…read moreWhen I initially took my kitty in for pre spay shots, my kitty was extremely calm sitting on the table as they overlooked her and handled her. They even mentioned how well mannered she was. They took her in the back for shots and came out and said my kitty bit a vet tech and they were going to have to report us to the health department. Mind you my kitty has never shown aggression before. They also mentioned they had an hard time giving her the shot (finding the vein!) She had a bandage on her arm and when I took it off she was bruised and a nice amount of blood on the bandage. That's alot of blood for a little kitty arm! Of course a cat will bite when you mishandle them like that!!! Not only do they charge an astronomical amount for the spay ($1000+) but they also gave my kitty an infection in the process (caused by them!) and had me pay for it! My poor kitty was extremely lethargic and sickly for over 2 weeks, we were so scared she wasn't going to make it!! They acted like I was the problem, again. I have to pay for their mistakes and they almost killed my kitty. This was nothing but a nightmare and now I tell everyone...stay far away from here!!!

Dr. Scofield did a perfect job on recent surgery for my small dog who also has a heart murmur. She was very reassuring and everything turned out better than expected. She listens and works with me which makes me feel like we are a team helping my dog live a healthy happy life.

Our little 12.5 year old chihuahua, Craigie/Pico (Foster family had named him Pico, but we called…read morehim Craigie after a very close family friend that passed right before we adopted him), took a turn for the worst and Bowie Towne Vet was able to get him in at 11AM the Monday morning I called. They did what they could and took bloodwork that would be in the next day, but later that same day he passed on his own, which obviously was very hard on us. When Dr Seddon called the next day with the bloodwork, he explained it was very indicative that he more than likely had a tumor on his pancreas because of how low his blood sugar was and there was no way to cure that. He also said he was quite positive that he wasn't suffering during this time at all, which meant a lot! The cremation was handled so amazingly and even included a paw print. I am not typically a fan of conventional vets, but Dr Seddon is a top-notch, compassionate, exceptional conventional vet that has always been a go between for my 3 chihuahuas when something urgent comes up and I can't make it out to the holistic vet (Healing Paws). He has worked on Nico and Roxie, my other two dogs several times for issues and been super helpful! His whole staff is top-notch and compassionate! I truly love Bowie Towne Vet and am so appreciative I have such an outstanding vet practice so close to home. I wrote all of this with tears over the loss of our sweet little boy, but also mixed with tears of joy of appreciation for having such an amazing vet location that was so supportive and helpful during this hard time.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Our experience with this clinic during our German Shepherd's…read morefinal days was heartbreaking, mishandled, and deeply traumatizing. We brought our 11-year-old shepherd in on December 2 after she became very ill and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. She declined rapidly after that visit, to the point where she could no longer stand and was dragging her back legs -- one of the most devastating things we've ever had to witness. We returned on December 4, desperate for guidance. The owner of the clinic told us it was "just arthritis" and that she would bounce back. We asked directly if it might be time to consider humane euthanasia, and we were told "absolutely not, she is strong." We trusted that advice and left with false hope, even though our dog was clearly suffering. By December 5, her condition had worsened, and only then did the clinic diagnose her with Degenerative Myelopathy -- a severe, progressive, and ultimately fatal neurological disease. This meant she had been misdiagnosed earlier in the week, which resulted in her enduring additional days of pain that could have been prevented with an accurate diagnosis and honest guidance. On top of this, the vet we dealt with showed very little to no emotion through the entire process. While knowledgeable, she was not personable or compassionate. At a time when we were losing a member of our family, we felt no empathy, no comfort, and no acknowledgment of the emotional weight of what we were going through. The most traumatic moment for us came during the sedation process for euthanasia. We were given no warning about what we might see or what to expect. When they sedated her, her body reacted in a way that made it appear as if she was struggling. It was extremely distressing, and none of us were prepared for it. My entire family -- who were present to say goodbye -- is still deeply shaken by what we saw. Proper communication and preparation could have spared us an experience that will stay with us forever. We had to make the heartbreaking decision to put our beautiful girl to rest because her quality of life was gone. Losing her was painful enough, but the misdiagnosis, lack of guidance, absence of compassion, and the traumatic sedation experience made everything far worse than it needed to be. We sincerely hope no other family has to go through what we went through at this clinic.
