I always get the Chicken Sandwich (grilled chicken breast) with no jalapenos. A cemita https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cemita here is a gigantic, round torta that is stuffed full of grilled chicken breast (caramelized at different edges/areas for interesting textures/flavors) and thickly laden with avocado slices, with some onion, white cheese, and apparently a couple spices. It's a gigantic meal, so unless you can eat a gigantic meal, I suggest that after you get home, immediately cut the sandwich in half then save half of the sandwich in the refrigerator. Don't try to eat it in the car... there is a lot of avocado so you will make a mess unless you are intimately familiar with these sandwiches and just take a bite or two before you start driving. :) The woman who answers the phone speaks excellent English, but she will probably answer the phone in Spanish. If you don't call ahead, and you're looking at the cash register next to the covered doorway into the kitchen while wondering what to do: look at the pictures of the food on the wall, then when you're ready to order, look for the little chrome bell on the counter, then ring it. Tap2Pay is accepted, so you can pay with your phone. The restaurant is located in a very small strip mall that is anchored by a gas station (look to the right of the gas station) near the freeway interchange. There is an exit from SB Hwy. 509 and an entrance to NB Hwy. 509, but no exit from NB Hwy. 509 and no entrance to SB Hwy. 509. It's a small space, and there are always people eating other dishes that are sorta mysterious to me and are apparently more expensive. At first I was slightly sad that the cost of food truly has risen... but once I received my brand new baby boy of a burrito weighing literally 2.6lbs all was forgiven. This is my literal around-the-corner spot. The folks in there are incredibly friendly and they have a ton of dishes you wouldn't find in other joints around Seattle. This is simple food -- no big globs of cheddar cheese or sour cream and no giant puddles of refried beans. The fare here is much lighter and depends on the grilled onions, jalapeños, chipotles, and avocado for flavor. Don't substitute or omit the ingredients. This like eating at a neighbor's house. It's good food made by kind people. The telenovelas on the TV make waiting for a takeout order especially fun and the clientele come from all walks of life. The prices seem pretty consistent with other places around Burien except for the street tacos which are a bit pricier than the local taco trucks or Birrieria Tijuana (my other go to). The place serving tropical drinks next door looks fun, too. read more

Got the regular pork burrito. Asked them to hold the lettuce and add jalapeños. The meat was excellent. Everything else about it was less than adequate. Firstly, although the burrito was quite large in girth and wrapped properly in foil, it was fully flaccid - impossible to eat without a fork. Second, the generous portion of avocado was promising but the fruit was very tough and mealy - almost grainy. The pinto beans had a strong chemical flavor and were pretty mushy. They used massive chunks of queso blanco, but the cheese was entirely flavorless and room temperature - not melted in the slightest bit. It was just a bad burrito. The setting of the taqueria is very rough. It may have been a mistake to visit here just a couple days after spending a week in taqueria paradise (SF bay area). read more

I first head of Cemitas Poblanas after my friend stumbled upon it while getting gas, and saw a long line of Spanish-speaking people surrounding the hole in the wall restaurant. I have never had a cemita prior to this, but my friend showed me what she got there and I knew I had to go. The lady who took our orders was very nice and accommodating, being patient with us while we tried to figure out the Spanish picture menu. I got the #1 which was a fried cutlet cemita with the protein of your choice (I got chicken), while my friend got the carne asada tacos.The cemita was huge, it can easily be shared between 2-3 people. The bread was round and generously packed with avocado, cheese and meat, which was great for me as I love avocado, cheese and meat. The carne asada tacos came with salsa and a pepper. Both entrees were very good, my friend thought the chicken in the cemita was a little dry but I thought it was fine with the chipotle, avocado and cheese. The carne asada was also delicious, being very juicy and flavorful. I wish they had utensils on the tables, but I might be eating the food wrong. I lived in Puebla for a few years when I was younger and loved cemitas ever since. Now I live in Seattle and when I discovered Cemitas Poblanas about a year ago and I couldn't believe it: they taste exactly as the original! They even have papalo (subject to availability), which is a very strong aromatic herb that some may not like, but for me adds the dishes' distinctive flavor. I haven't tried anything else in the menu yet because cemitas, but go try this place if you like authentic Mexican food. read more

After reading the good reviews, I was super excited to try this place out. I took my family here to eat and for 4 plates of food it was $70. Unfortunately, the carne asada and nopales were salty. I've only eaten the cemitas here - the chicken cemitas and the vegetarian cemita. Both have been pretty good with lots of fresh veggies. My favorite is the vegetarian. I've gotten the grilled chicken breast, but also the fried chicken breast, and I much prefer the grilled one. I usually get take out on my way home from work. I want to chuckle at the poster who said the "setting of the taqueria is rough." I work at the elementary school down the street from this restaurant and I would not consider the area to be rough. Ok I wanna start off by saying the food here is pretty good, everything taste fresh including the bread which is great and they are one of the few places around that has papalo but, today my husband and I decided to have lunch here, we ordered 3 cemitas with milanesa, the cemitas were good but it was pretty much a small piece of meat and a ton of avocado. Now I love avocado but half of my sandwich was just cheese and avocado. For the $45 I spent I feel like there should have been some more meat in my sandwich. Key piece of information: Cemitas Poblanas is located in the teeny strip mall adjacent to the Chevron Station at 805 S. 112th. I hope this saves you from the extended tour of Boulevard Park that I did today, not that there's anything wrong with Boulevard Park. That out of the way, Cemitas Poblanas has some CRAZY good sandwiches, not to mention plates as well. The cemitas (aka sandwiches) are enormous...they're size of my head, which I assure you is not small. These are grand sesame-flecked rounds stuffed with meat, sauteed onion rings, plenty of fresh avocado slices, and mild white cheese...jalapenos optional. Plates of seafood and tacos plus burritos also comprise the menu. The taste is divine, and even a healthy appetite might be satisfied by just a half (sandwiches are purchased as a whole for $8.25). Carne Asada is hearty and packs some chew...even the cerdo (basic ham) is transformed into something special with CP's toppings. Don't forget a Jarritos soda or a Coke from the fridge. This is not a place to visit if you want a crazy unique and intimate atmosphere...the entire dining area is carpeted, brightly lit, and furnished with folding tables and chairs. So now that I've warned you...don't complain about it. These are good folks putting out some darn good food, so like it for what it is. read more

I frequent the teriyaki place next door and decided to give this place a shot, which I now regret. I paid $20 for two cemitas, which is not worth it at all. They are large, but it's mostly bread. Not a lot of meat filling, very few caramelized onions, and large chunks of tasteless white cheese. I don't know what to say other than it just did not taste good. The sandwiches were ready in 5 minutes, but the bread was hard and the carne asada inside was cold. Seriously... save your money and skip the cemitas. read more

This little hole in the wall in Boulevard Park is my favorite sandwich joint. The Cemitas are huge if not cheap and are full of flavor. A cemita is a Mexican sandwich from the state of Puebla. It is a sesame seed roll with avocado, white cheese, onions, jalapenos if you wish, and your choice of meats. Probably the most ordered meat is the Milanese, a breaded cutlet of either pork or beef, or you could have carne asada or pork skins but I prefer ham because it allows the flavor of the other ingredients to come though. And flavor there is. The sandwich is thick and enough for two. There are other items on the menu that look good but really all I've eaten is the Cemitas. The atmosphere is non-existant with the tele on to univision and plastic tables with a jar of nescafe on them if you want coffee. But really the Cemitas make it up. ¡Fantastico! read more

This place is as home made as Mexican food gets. This place is about real excellent home made flavor. Their specialty are a sandwich called Cemitas. They're huge and feel of great flavor. I favor the carne Asada Cemitas. They come loaded with queso fresco ( fresh Mexican cheese) and loads of avacado. I've also had the tacos and they are very plain. The meat is always full of flavor so that keeps me coming back. This place lacks aesthetics, but serves real home made flavors that only my Mexican born mom seems to be able to conjour up. The food here is extremely authentic to central Mexico. It is a bit pricey but well worth it if you're looking for authentic cuisine. There's just one thing I wanted to comment on after reading prior reviews. The cheese they use is authentically Mexican. Some people refer to it as flavorless but I'm assuming these people are used to processed and aged cheeses (I love those too). Mexicans mainly use freshly made cheeses and it is more of a garnish and something to counteract the spiciness of the food rather than the main attraction of the meal. That said, if you love authentic cooking this is the place to go for tortas. If you prefer Mexican chain restaurants with loads of cheddar cheese, this is not for you. read more
