    Michelada

Great little spot for flavorful and authentic Mexican food. This is the spot if you want real Mexican, not globs of sour cream or Monterey Jack cheese melted on everything. The menu is pictures on the wall, so if you don't know what you want or what to order you can look at the pics or ask for a rec from the staff. The mole was great and peanuty and savory with a little sweetness. The whole fried fish was great too. Super friendly service! Order a michelada! It comes with shrimp!

At first I was slightly sad that the cost of food truly has risen... but once I received my brand new baby boy of a burrito weighing literally 2.6lbs all was forgiven. I've only gotten a third of the way through the football so I can't say yet what hidden surprises reside on the other side of this continent but I'm sure it'll be more good stuff!

Regular burrito. Huge but not good.

Got the regular pork burrito. Asked them to hold the lettuce and add jalapeños. The meat was excellent. Everything else about it was less than adequate. Firstly, although the burrito was quite large in girth and wrapped properly in foil, it was fully flaccid - impossible to eat without a fork. Second, the generous portion of avocado was promising but the fruit was very tough and mealy - almost grainy. The pinto beans had a strong chemical flavor and were pretty mushy. They used massive chunks of queso blanco, but the cheese was entirely flavorless and room temperature - not melted in the slightest bit. It was just a bad burrito. The setting of the taqueria is very rough. It may have been a mistake to visit here just a couple days after spending a week in taqueria paradise (SF bay area).

    Tacos carne asada

I first head of Cemitas Poblanas after my friend stumbled upon it while getting gas, and saw a long line of Spanish-speaking people surrounding the hole in the wall restaurant. I have never had a cemita prior to this, but my friend showed me what she got there and I knew I had to go. The lady who took our orders was very nice and accommodating, being patient with us while we tried to figure out the Spanish picture menu. I got the #1 which was a fried cutlet cemita with the protein of your choice (I got chicken), while my friend got the carne asada tacos. The cemita was huge, it can easily be shared between 2-3 people. The bread was round and generously packed with avocado, cheese and meat, which was great for me as I love avocado, cheese and meat. The carne asada tacos came with salsa and a pepper. Both entrees were very good, my friend thought the chicken in the cemita was a little dry but I thought it was fine with the chipotle, avocado and cheese. The carne asada was also delicious, being very juicy and flavorful. I wish they had utensils on the tables, but I might be eating the food wrong. I plan to come back to explore the rest of the diverse menu!

Hopefully I can finish this review before my food coma hits...(deep breath) It was love at first sight. The first time I spotted the cemita de carne asada sandwich it was this morning in an article by the Seattle Times on Seattle-area sandwich sensations. Then I realized Cemitas Poblanas was just a couple of miles from my job, and the countdown to lunch time began. The cemita de carne asada is HUGE!!! I got it with jalepenos on the side, but ended up putting them in the sandwich for the extra kick. The cemita de carne asada is simple and delicious! How can you go wrong with avocados, steak, Mexican cheese, and grilled onions on fresh bread! Cemitas Poblanas is the real deal...... Here comes the "my stomach is full and happy" food coma.....zzzz

Although it's naturally very fatty, the flavor and juiciness was retained after cooking - so they didn't screw it up. The salsa verde was a very nice accompaniment, as it tasted light, fresh, and a good complement to the fat of the meat. The mole enchiladas were less good. The mole sauce used leaned way too heavily on a sweet flavor - having little to no nuttiness whatsoever. It didn't taste anywhere close to some of the best moles I've had. The enchilada underneath was fine - nothing special. Both dishes came with beans and rice. Both were slightly above average, but nothing to write home about. I would say the portions were well sized in terms of overall amount, but the enchiladas were quite small compared to the beans and rice. With these two dishes we ended up around 28 per person. Overall, it's average Mexican food. 6.5/10

(those burritos are massive omg.) the mole enchiladas were SOOO good, as were the cashew poblano enchiladas. their sauces are so yummy and the presentation was on-point for both enchiladas. i also had a bite of my friend's carne en morita which is a slow cooked pork dish, and i was obsessed. the only thing i'd say to pass on would be the tacos. drinks were also great and had amazing presentation. i was very satisfied with my carajillo and my friend's passion fruit mojito was also very tasty (you could NOT taste the alc in it i swear) overall, koko's is a great spot if you're looking to dress up for a cute night out but also craving some tasty mexican food.

We started out with a fundido with cheese and it was just so filling and appetizing. It came with cheese and chorizo and we were able to get toasted tortillas to place the cheese and chorizo in that went so well together. Plus, we also were given a lot of hot tortillas to use to finish off the rest. With the salsas that it came with, this was a great appetizer to start the night out with. After that, we got our baked potato with every single topping you can think of, including Wagyu carne asada. This dish is big enough to be a meal for one on its own and aside from a twice baked potato, this is probably the best type of baked potato you can get, considering how all the toppings go together. We also got a corn and pepper dish that tasted pretty good, but the star of the night was the porterhouse. For $99, the 38 or so ounce steak was the highlight of the night. It came with a chimmichuri and a salsa side and tortillas, plus the meat was cooked so perfectly. It had the right amount of fat on it and was just a really well cooked piece of quality meat. That porterhouse really ended the night and made it all worthwhile. The service here is super attentive. The ambiance is nice and seems like a great place to celebrate any type of event. So many of our regular spots had lines out the door, which was no surprise, but we ended up getting a table here. Figured Mexican food is hard to mess up. They have an option where you can try ALL of their dips for $20, which I couldn't resist. It was so fun, they had like 9 different ones! I got the shrimp tacos and they were so flavorful that I almost gasped. The creamy sauce, crunchy veggie toppers, smooth avocado, and perfectly cooked shrimp...just wow. I will be dreaming about this dish for years to come. I am a pescatarian and gluten free and there were TONS of options for me. They mostly use corn for everything, not flour. Before it seemed like Maiz Molino was focusing on elevated, unique Mexican dishes (shown in the pics in my prior review such as short rib, and other sort of "fusion" dishes, and more seafood focused, etc.) Now, the menu seems way more generic and casual like enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, etc. just offered w/ different proteins. They are still focusing on maiz but just a bit more generic in the preparation and offerings. Also, they had 2 separate menus which was a bit confusing. One is a generic all day menu and then another menu had brunch and dinner on it. It was around 5:30 p.m. but they were out of a particular steak dish that we were interested in. Service was friendly. We had enchiladas, a dip sampler (for appetizer) and Tlacoyos. Everything was fine but nothing really stood out, sadly. It wasn't very busy while we were there, so hoping that they are doing ok as a business. I would love to come back if they brought back the old menu w/ things that you cannot really find elsewhere, including the great cocktail menu and desserts that were offered previously.

Andrew (our server) introduced us to his sidekick, who was in training. Love that personal, hands on approach for a mew team member, and Sidekick did a great job in monitoring our table and replenishing water. Have to stop here and express my appreciation for Andrew and how he took the time to explain the philosophy and genuine team vibe of the restaurant. Oftentimes when a restaurant adds a flat 20% gratuity, you get the feeling this is not passed on to the servers. Not so here. He explained that it's shared among the servers, bar, and other staff, with only a bit retained by management, but even that finds its way into their wages. Terrific work environment and happy to see it. It definitely shows in the level of service. But we're here to eat. Didn't take a picture, but one of my dining companions ordered the burrito with red chili sauce and it was very good. Just the right amount of heat in the sauce. The Cantina celebrates Taco Tuesday, so I took advantage of this. You get the opportunity to try 5 different street tacos for the low price of $15. For another $4 you order it fully loaded which is a steal (guac, pickled onions, lettuce, giardano, crema, and another lovely sauce). Each of the tacos were really delicious and packed full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and the beef. Was surprised how much I liked the popcorn chicken - still juicy and not greasy in the least. Andrew treated us to a round of the hatch green chili. I was delighted because it was a dish I wanted to try. He described it perfectly: a little kick, but you can't stop eating it. He was right. A bowl of this in the winter with their cornbread (which I'm confident will be delicious) will preempt a winter cold. The sauces on the table are not to be ignored either. The green chili sauce was fruity with a little heat, the scorpion chili brings the heat, but their homemade chili oil is phenomenal. I could put this on everything. In short, the Cantina delivers. Excellent food, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and fun staff, and a cool vibe. I'll bet the cocktails will also be good. Definitely adding to the regular rotation!
