I was feeling some afternoon lulls after eating way too much for lunch and I decided to come to Cenote for some coffee, as recommended by a friend of mine. I heard their chai was delicious, but I needed a hit of caffeine so I ordered a dirty chai with oat milk. This came up to $7 and it was really good, but then I realized I paid less for my cocktail at lunch... THAT SAID, the vibe here is fabulous and is a great place to get some work done. There is also a couch for people that prefer a more comfortable space. Overall, I would come back again, but maybe Ill just stick with a traditional drip coffee. read more

Was excited to stop in, treat myself and friend to breakfast and coffee and try a new place. Sadly disappointed and felt ripped off. I was ordering to go bc my friend was at home although the best aspect of this place is probably the cool house and yard. Even though I was still tipping 20% and I'm always polite, the Cashier was impatient and rude. Didn't tell me that my coffee was going to be on the other side of the counter, so it sat there and got cold for 20m while I waited for my food. Not only was it cold but it wasn't good, like if you go to hipster or nicer coffee shop you expect to get great coffee but this was very disappointing. Got home to see "Omelette" was just charred scrambled eggs with stuff thrown on top. Not an omelette and the charred part may have to do with the cleanliness of the grill (see pictures for blackened bits). Ingredients were good but I wish I had known it was more of a scrambled frittata than an omelette. Breakfast tacos were equally lazily thrown together and charred. Greasy. Taco wasn't even wrapped closed, broken foil and potatoes falling out. The cute house with yard and juice bar connected and idea of going to a locally owned coffee shop is the only great thing about this place. Probably the only reason why there were so many customers. Idk maybe the cook was fired or quit and it was a cashier or barista trying to make food in the kitchen. Maybe they don't care. It really seemed like they gave zero cares. I wish they did, though. Stayed down the street from Cenote during a trip to Austin for a bachelorette party. First, we stumbled across this place for iced coffee, but once we saw their menu we came back again! It's a very gluten free or vegan friendly spot with a fast casual service. The ambiance is welcoming and creative! Their menu was amazing, and hard to choose what to order. We finally made some choices and were happy with them. Their sweet potato fries are delicious! I can't imagine how delicious everything on the menu is since we enjoyed our burgers and BLT so much. I have never had a bad experience at Cenote. I really like the place. The staff are nice, the venue is awesome and relaxing, and the food/coffee are pretty good. I think the most shocking thing about the menu is the hummus. I've never asked, btu I assume they make it there. It's honestly the best hummus I've had in town... and you wouldn't expect it coming from Cenote. I've just never had a bad trip to this place. Cute cafe in downtown Austin. Coffee shop feel with a full breakfast and lunch menu. It's a classic Austin establishment and a locals favorite. The staff is really awesome and nice! They are always busy and try their best to make sure you enjoy your meal. You order up at the front and are given a number, you can also get beer and coffee drinks. The menu is reasonably priced and affordable. I ordered the grande breakfast burrito with avocado and bacon. My boyfriend ordered the special on the day which was a mucho breakfast burrito. Both were absolutely delicious! The portions are large, definitely can share a meal if wanted. We sat inside since it was pretty cold, but the patio area is really nice and pretty. The indoor area has limited seating, so not good for big groups, but the outside seating area is great for good groups! Will be back again! read more

Been here a few times now but this last adventure was by far the best. For one, it was the least crowded I'd ever seen it. Two, it was $1 Modelo night. Three, it was raining... but not the kind of rain that will ruin your plans. I actually got food this time and it was absolutely scrumptious. Normally, I would go for a salad but given the weather, I wanted something comforting. I ended up with a veggie chile rellano sans cheese and it was spot on. Great place to study or hang out with really good food and coffee. Some seats weren't the most comfortable but there is a selection and there is also a nice outdoor space with seating. Plenty of outlets too, which is nice. This place was way less crowded than a Starbucks, and had a bit more of a quiet vibe. The tables were mostly small, so I wouldn't recommend it for a large group. Be careful when you are outside, because there were lots of mosquitoes when I went around dusk. read more

When my husband and I want to escape from the business of 9-5,"mom and dad" and adulthood: WE CHOOSE Cenote. This will be a strange review because I will not talk about the coffee. Whenever I come here by day, cenote is mobbed, and you can neither park nor get in. I quit trying to come here to work . My logic was similar to Yogi Berra's, "The Place is So Crowded Nobody Goes There Anymore." But in the evening - space opens up ... and they do serve dinner. How is - gulp - a full dinner menu at a coffee-comes-first place? Surprisingly - excellent. First rate soups. Excellent "plates of the day". (Particular thumbs up for their trout with thick tomato coulis, goat cheese, quinoa and salad.) Avoid the sandwiches at dinner. The cibattas have been there all day - and cibattas get pretty damp and tired by night time. But the rest of the menu is excellent. PLUS - this is one of the few coffee houses in Austin that books tolerable music at night. When you compare this with the awful open mikes or folk shows that some coffee houses book ... or you compare this with Austin Java's very mediocre attempts to combine coffee with dinner ... the clear superiority of what Cenote is doing shines. Plus the decorating is absolutely some of the best in Austin for a coffee house. (Special kudos for the metal panels and wicker work.) After looking up what was nearby we decided to eat at cenote. The restaurant had a great vibe and was set up extremely well inside and outside for working on your computer or reading a book. All in all awesome spot. Our food was extremely good. We had the king salmon salad, side of fries, breakfast taco with cheese/ avocado, chai tea latte, and the cenote scramble. Very flavorful and everything was prepared and brought to us quickly. I highly recommend you eat here if you are in the area. Cenote really felt like an "oasis" on a hot september day, being surrounded by so much beautiful vegetation. The food is always good for the body and soul. I appreciate that they had vegan and gluten free substitutions. I had the banh mi taco plate and their soup of the day which was tortilla soup. HOWEVER, they have built a little oasis by gating off the front patio and adding lots of greenery and vines in the fencing. The vibe here is everything. You order inside at the register. Inside seems a little cramped near the sugar/cream station since this is where orders come up and where you throw away your trash, and stack your used plates. We felt very much in the way both times we came in while we waited for our orders. Other than that, we loved this place. All of our items were delicious: cold brew, americano, kombucha, beer.... the food looked fresh and delicious from peeking at others' plates. This place would be good for groups since there are several picnic tables outside. We would've loved to have seen a tofu scramble or other savory options for breakfast on their menu. Cenote is a cute little coffee shop/cafe in East Austin. I came here because Yelp says it's good to work here and I scrolled through some photos on their Yelp page to see if there were pics of anyone on their laptops (and there were)! So, I packed up my laptop and headed over for a meeting. The only negative side to being so close to the east side/downtown is that parking is horrible, so park on the street and try not to expect close parking. The upside was that I parked for free! :) This place was nice and busy. Then again it was Saturday afternoon. The thing I loved most is that they offer coffee, beer, and teas! You do have to order at the counter, so if you take a friend, order for them and have them save you guys a table! I almost went table-less for a few minutes there. Outlets are around, but they're hard to find. Make sure you have a fully charged laptop, just in case you can't find an open outlet to do some work for a couple of hours. I only had their hibiscus mint tea plus a shared hummus plate with pita and carrots and both were delicious and house-made! I have been to multiple locations of theirs. I personally enjoyed the downtown east Austin location the most (the other location I have been to is the one off of 183 and 290). The downtown east Austin location has delicious food, great ambiance, and wonderful staff.
