Pershing East is a very nice space to study in! They have free wifi, water, restrooms, and good seating options. Also the ambiance is very nice, good window natural lighting, bar seating, individual seating, and larger table seating. Volume levels are good too. The service is pretty fast. I got a tea since the decaf coffee bean grinder was broken and I was looking for a non-caffeinated option. Rosella herbal - This tea almost reminds me of a passion tango tea from starbucks because it has a tad bit of sourness and notes of a tart hibiscus or cranberry taste. Cozy spot with indoor/outdoor seating, vinyl records, and cannabis. What more could you need? Ordered the salmon plate with looked so plesant I took my time enjoying each part equally. The salmon portion was excellent and all veggies on the side were fresh. This was on a nice day so we sat outside and enjoyed the weater while people watching the PErishing art area. Came in here in a non busy Saturday morning. 1. You can't leave your drinks on the table without a lid or napkin covering it because the condensation from the industrial AC above the ceiling throughout the place will drip into your drink. 2. We sat in the corner and instantly I had about 7 gnats flying around my face and had to kill a mosquito and the whole time we were sitting there there was a fly on our table. 3.They forgot to give us a cold brew that takes 30 seconds to pour and we had to go remind them after 15 minutes. 4. 30 minutes pass by and no sign of our breakfast sandwhich and we see the "chef" just strolling around the establishment. 5. We also ordered the breakfast taco which is premade/ready to go and to my disgust, you can tell is pre scrambled eggs that comes from the carton. Total before tip was over $8, which is a bit steep (this was without alternative milks). It was pretty decent quality matcha, but the strawberry flavor was very subtle. Their drinks are just okay, and for $10... that's highway robbery. It's a really cute and bright space with a lot of seating and outlets, but the coffee is nothing special. Had to opportunity to visit Pershing East since taking over and it was an absolute dream. From what looks like an open hangar from the outside, within rests a beautifully decorated coffee shop. The nook in the back is so damn cute and perfect if you're needing a reading spot. You'll find plenty of seating area including a community table towards the back perfect to mimic as a standing desk. From baked goods to a few key savory items, Pershing East has you covered if you arrive in need of a nibble. The coffee used here was really smooth, but my fave moment was their variety of in-house syrups. The team here is so sweet and very open to helping you select your choice coffee or drink. I was moved to try their gingerbread spiced iced latte with oat milk, holy crap was it smooth and enjoyable. So much so I had to order a second one. For context, this cafe USED to be Greater Goods storefront coffee shop and was an absolute favorite and popular in the Holly neighborhood - it always had a line, no matter the time of day. We live walking-distance away and have been going for over 5 years. Previously great coffee/featured flavors/local food BUT what kept you coming back were the amazing staff. And a bonus of the owners being generous in supporting local orgs/nonprofits. Recently the private social club Pershing bought the cafe and while they still carry GG beans and some of the lattes are similar, the vibe, customer service, pricing and food menu is different. The neighborhood chat group has a weekly disgruntled update of this price went up or this thing is now off the menu. People: Many of our beloved baristas, who know all the neighbors, our nicknames, pets, coffee orders, etc. have moved on as business and management changed -- only a few gems remain. I had the rudest encounter I've ever experienced in Austin the last time I chose to go there with one of the newish staffers; it was morning on Sunday March 25th when I walked into an empty cafe (unheard of pre-Pershing) -- I've been sitting on this review trying to cool down ever since. I had to walk out without buying anything. Pricing: New ownership has hiked the prices. A flavored latte will run you upward to $9 now if you tip at least a $1. Even subbing Oat for 2 Tbsp of milk in a Cafe Ole will run you the full latte upcharge of $1. Food: There is an in-house chef but the selections are not desirable. They do still carry Sour Duck pastries which is a good thing. Ambiance: They took out the learning space and put up a "Members Only" sign, closing half the cafe to Pershing Social Club members - adding the exclusivity vibe they strive for. Before you could enjoy a premium cup of coffee with people who knew coffee but didn't make you feel like an idiot if you didn't ... You could buy a quality latte but feel good that part of your purchase went to a good cause. In fairness - the Pros: The space still is a light and pretty cafe that is super instagrammable if that is your thing. There's a lot more open seats now if you choose to patron. If you didn't know it before and you're ok with elevated pricing, you may not notice a difference. They have started working with Vegan Nom to sell their Tacos which are a Holly neighborhood brand! There is ample parking and open most of the day if you want to work. We no longer go here and decided to give our money elsewhere - there are so many amazing coffee spots within walking distance. read more

I have mixed feelings on Pershing East. The coffee was great and the pastry I had was yummy. The shop is not very cozy, more industrial and minimal vibes. I was disappointed by their service and hospitality, or the lack thereof. My friend and I were standing near the counter chatting among ourselves about the menu for several minutes and we received no "hello" or "welcome" to the shop. It wasn't busy, there was no one in line and the staff were not busy making drinks or food. We stood there for about 3 minutes contemplating their offerings yet no attempt made from the staff to engage with us. I expected a simple "hello" or "how are you?" or "welcome". Not even an attempt to showcase or inform us of their offerings. What a turn off! I won't return. read more

The inside was very well-lit and spacious giving a nice airy feeling. There are many places to sit, making it a nice place to hang out or get work done. I ordered an iced lavender latte, and I quite like their lavender syrup; it has a plant-y taste to it, which I acknowledge some people may not like, instead of just being pure sugar. The unfortunate part is that my coffee cost over $7 (I did opt for 16 oz instead of 12 oz but 16 oz is pretty standard size to me) so even though I did enjoy the coffee, this is not a coffee shop I'd likely return to. However, they do have a parking lot which I think is a win in east Austin. read more

Ownership of the space has indeed changed; however I can easily say that the quality of coffee is still entirely the same (still exclusively locally roasted by Greater Goods with baristas who are equal parts friendly and coffee-nerdy) and their new lunch sandwiches that their in-house chef makes are SO good (the Pinocchio is a stand out for me with it's slightly sweet pistachio butter and salty/savory flavors). I've heard tale that there's even the intent to start having a couple beers and wine in the near future so this might also have to become a later afternoon hang for me as well! read more

First visit to Pershing East since they replaced Greater Goods in this location! It is a great spot for a morning latte if you're in the area. I still get sticker shocked when I purchase a latte. All in all, I paid $7.71 for my 12oz vanilla latte with almond milk. I bet that's the current going rate for a 12 oz specialty coffee but an investment I can't do daily. It's delicious though. Service was quick and the space was open and beautiful. The hanging artworks (on sale) are a good touch to the ambiance too! read more

I really like the way they've updated this coffee shop! There is more seating for working on your computer and access to plugs, the premade grab and go sandwiches are absolutely delicious, and the coffee is great. They have a variety of drinks and a really creative menu that I've been enjoying going through. They also have a little restaurant in the back that I haven't tried yet but the menu looks fun. This is a great spot to meet up, cowork, relax, etc. read more

We used to frequent this cafe before it was taken over by new owners a 2-3 years ago and we loved the food and the coffee. We were visiting recently and stopped by twice. The first visit the food was OK- and the little Gem salad was pretty good.. Today we ordered out and the food was terrible. Both little Gems salads were gritty - inedible- like the lettuce was full of sand and there was not one piece of little Gem lettuce in the salad. THe chicken protein my husband asked to have added ended up being some kind of chicken salad which he couldn't eat- way too much mayo and seasonings. They never mentioned that the chicken protein was a chicken salad. read more

The coffee and the food are always great. I loved this place when it was greater goods, and it's still high quality and worth coming here. My issues were - We ordered two pastries with our coffee. There were maybe 3 total people in the shop so it wasn't because it was busy, but the barista just outright forgot to give us our food without me walking up and asking her for our pastries - I was there with my mom, and we both ordered together on the same bill. We were sitting at a table and I ordered a coffee "for here". Somehow my mom got a "to go" cup even though she did say we're both staying here (and we were both literally sitting at a table 2 feet away). The barista did offer to pour it into a ceramic mug but again - just odd that you didnt ask or even see us. And we did say both order are for here. Is this the biggest deal in the world? No. But again - there were 3 total patrons in the shop and me and my mom were two of them. The coffee and the food were great. I'll definitely be coming back. The staff of greater goods was top notch. This staff now of Pershing East is less than desirable. I'm sure they're nice people but it was a miss on representing a great atmosphere. As the former employees/employers did before. The coffee, I can't believe, was really bad. I had an americano and it was bitter and couldn't be undone by some half and half and sugar. I wanted and tried very hard to make it good but it didn't get any better- I'll have to just toss it out. I do wish greater goods was still here but understand if they couldn't stay. I wish I loved this place since I live so near but the seating situation, which has been brought up in other reviews is very odd. Literally I feel like I have to fight for a table and hate that feeling. If someone gets up from a table people cut in front of me to take the table so it's unnecessary stress. There is enough space for more tables, they just choose to not have them and instead there is an awkward uncomfortable bench where you can't use your laptop or talk with friends since it's sideways. Sometimes when the 5 tables are taken, I just go home and don't even buy anything since I don't feel like waiting. Simply put, people come cafe's to work on a laptop or to meet with other people so why not facilitate that? read more

Pershing East took over Greater Goods Coffee, it's the same space, almost identical menu! I really loved the design of the place, the foggy windows and exterior were nice! Sadly, the coffee was just okay. Even though I payed 1$ to add lavender syrup, it was barely tasted at all except my first sip. The espresso is great and the latte had good flavor, but spending so much to add syrup that you can't taste? And the price is hefty enough, even with a .25 cent tip o still payed over $8! Maybe it's because they actually pay their workers a livable wage so it's less necessary to tip, but whatever the case may be I do not think this coffee is worth the price they sell it for. Usually iced lattes are always priced higher than just a plain hot cafe latte, so If I were ever to come back here I would probably order a plain latte and add my own sugar for free, to actually see how well they can make a drink for the price. Employee at the register was on her 2nd shift ever and already looked like she didn't really want to be there, and she didn't really entice me to try any specific drinks or make anything sound good, she looked pretty perturbed. Could've been a bad day of course, but the vibes inside were odd. Also to note, almost every table was wobbly so make sure you put a lid on your drink even if you drink it there. read more

Greater Goods Coffee shop under new ownership. I always loved Greater Goods, and my recent visit indicated few changes to coffee menu or staff. They are still brewing top notch Greater Goods coffee, the creative drinks I like are still on the menu, and there are now fancy sandwiches. Mixed reviews on the sandwich I tried as the ingredients weren't very balanced and it was a bit oily. If the sandwiches don't hit the spot, Rogue Radish food truck is right next door with fresh bowls, which I also highly recommend. read more
