Self-service ordering, via an ordering platform that takes substantially more time to figure out than had they taken our order themselves. The lady working at the window wasn't friendly at all. I tipped well and said "thanks" but got no response and a window just shut in my face. We found a table near an outlet, and although the table itself was pretty small for laptops and food and coffee, we made do! Drinks came out quick, and food took maybe 10-15 minutes. My latte was tasty, and I was pleasantly surprised by the green eggs and ham. While there are now two Civil Goats in East Austin, drive the extra ten minutes and come to this one instead. Why? There's a private lot (albeit small, but I've always had luck finding parking), plenty of outdoor seating options to choose from (shaded spots, tables on the dirt, patio seating, or wide-open under the blue sky) plus a fair amount of indoor seating as well, and even a dog park! Sadly, no actual goats at this location. They serve both food and drinks, but the few times I've had their lattes, they are pretty much standard for good, but the food... unreal. I constantly rave about how addictive their specialty Soft Scramble is. Their Soft Scramble ($14) comes with buttery scrambled eggs with chives, a refreshing arugula salad, and a protein of your choice. No question, GET THE HASH-SAUSAGE!! I never order scrambled eggs at restaurants because my thought process is: I can make them at home...but Civil Goat broke that rule for me. Also, I'm a big fan of the Cuerny Sam ($12) when I'm craving the perfect breakfast croissant sammie. There is also a small dog park right next door, so that kept us entertained throughout our visit. Since I used their QR code for ordering, which was attached to our table, I didn't have much interaction with the employees. But my order was ready quickly and delivered to me smoothly. I ordered a small hot latte with honey and the Smashed Avocado with added poached egg. I was very impressed by both of these items! The latte had perfectly steamed milk and just the right level of sweetness. And I always appreciated beautiful latte art. The toast was super satisfying and it incorporated a variety of interesting flavors. The walnut pesto and balsamic glaze gave the dish a zesty zing, but it was balanced nicely by the avocado and expertly poached egg. So....first of all, there are no prices on the menu and there is a "wellness" charge of 16% automatically added to the bill. Our payout for our meal was a little over $40 (with the wellness charge). Went on a weekend morning and service was super slow, I probably waited 30 minutes just to put my order in at the register. My honeydew fizz did not really taste of honeydew and only tasted of matcha which would have been ok if I didn't pay $8 for the seasonal drink. Parking is available behind the building but the lot is such a tight squeeze I would recommend street parking instead. The food items were pretty substantial as a meal. Definitely more filling than a simple pastry, which they also had. We ended up getting the Cuerny Sam's and found them quite taste. I enjoyed the added honey more than I thought I would. The coffees were also deliciously made and tasted high quality. The only con is it's pretty expensive. Might not come back super hungry as 2 egg sandwiches and 2 coffees were over $40. Looked like a pro tip is to get bird bird across the street and pick up some coffee. The servers were also very nice. I personally love the London fog latte, chai latte, and iced vanilla latte. The branding is so cute, and all the employees are really nice and helpful.
