My wife and I used to come up quite often, however it has been a while. We came back again on a Friday, and now the buffet charges extra for crab legs. They used to be included. It is now $12.95 per pound, so if you want dinner for 2, and a pound of crab legs, it will set you back $78 or so, which for dinner is not bad. However, I expect a little more "bang for my buck" the prime rib was over cooked, salad stations virtually empty, fried chicken was too dry. The stations were not kept up properly and there was food everywhere, on the counters, floor etc. I will say the wait staff though was exceptional, which is why I didn't give this a one star. It was overall not a good experience, and next time we will rethink our dining options. read more

Horrible my family took me here because I've been stationed over seas for 3 years to try and have a good time and the food came out horrible crab legs were dirty getting mud on our hands and all over the crab meat. What's up with the haters? This place nails it! Hit up the Mother's Day supper and it was exact-o-ly what we were looking for. This was some mighty fine eating. The crab was delish; best I've had from a buffet. Upon perusing the selection I spied and tried some made to order pho. Pho at a buffet? Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit ain't that a pleasant surprise! Also dug me the grilled slices of fresh whole pineapple too, 'cause I need my sweet with my salty. My lady said the salad was good, I wouldn't know myself but you can take her word for it. And of course, the buffet mainstay that is Crab Rangoon was On. Point. So let's brass tack this.... The buffet game in Denver is god awful. The Centennial Buffet at Ameristar, however, is a great buffet that is a short and scenic drive up the hill. Let me start out by saying that I'm not a buffet person, it's kind of a waste of money on me. (I do not eat my fair share of food for the cost. Plus "potluck" style meals has always given me a little bit of anxiety.) This buffet is good. There is a ton of choices and a lot of options without meat. I'm not a vegetarian but I did not want to eat meat the first trimester of my pregnancy so I was happy to see a lot of side dishes. I'm a fan of "crappy style" Mexican so I loved that section. And they had some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. I would avoid the green bean casserole. That was pretty bad. The desserts were abundant and yummy. I just wish they had the crab legs on the night we went for my hubbs. He really wanted some crab legs. Shrimp is spectacular, cooked to perfection and crab legs with garlic butter- need I say more? We skip out on what's left on the buffet, as we come for the seafood. There isn't a comparison to the gargantuan buffet feasts in Las Vegas and the more sublime affairs in Colorado's limited gaming towns. In terms of venues that try to emulate the Las Vegas experience, the Centennial Buffet inside of the Ameristar Casino arguably comes the closest. That isn't to say that the Centennial Buffet is a high quality level - this is largely a strap the food bag on and chow down type of affair. Still, a variety of different kinds of meat (tri-tip, ribs, and barbecue beef) were all pretty tasty and somewhat redeemed the overall cost of the experience. The Asian area of food was very disappointing, as it was largely bland and not fresh (at 5 p.m. on a Thursday). The dessert and Italian areas were both pretty good though, and it's possible there may be too much variety and choices to sustain the business this buffet attracts on some days. In all, not a bad choice to partake in Black Hawk or Central City, though be aware that a slightly improved version of Old Country Buffet may be what you are getting. read more

We have come to Ameristar many times and in a year the one thing we looked forward to most was the buffet. However we were informed that kids are no longer allowed inside the buffet. For a hotel to appeal to families this is disappointing. We unfortunately will never return here. read more

Really quite good. A little pricey and closes early. $18.99 and closes at 10. I don't eat much seafood or red meat so it probably isn't worth the price for someone like me. The salad bar is really scrumptious with fresh grated parm and blue cheese crumbles. They had a really good, fresh fruit salad also. All the food was fresh and they kept putting out new stuff even as 10 pm got closer. I tried to smuggle out a carmel apple that looks sooo delish but it really didn't work out too well. I don't pretend to be a buffet aficionado but I thought the food options were pretty good. If you are a crab leg fan or can eat a lot, totally worth the money. If you are more a salad for dinner person this probably isn't your route. The line on a Friday night was fairly long and that was more a function of the cashiers being slow as opposed to the tables being full or the food lines themselves being busy. Don't be caught off guard when you need to decide what you want to drink before you are seated. Now I'm not normally the kind of person who wants to eat my moneys worth in volume but I did like that you could get a little bit of everything from carving station to crab legs to the Asian station. By the time I went to bed I was pretty happy I had stopped to have a big dinner (something to soak up all the free drinks we later consumed). It is what it is. I've eaten at Centennial Buffet at least 3 times in the past year and it's a great buffet! They have everything from A to Z. I especially LOVE their crab legs - I don't hold back either. :o) Great place to eat with big groups because there is something for everyone. The last time I visited our server was Dominic and he was awesome. He cleared our plates every 10 minutes and refilled our sodas without having to ask all the while with a smile on his face. Better than the other buffets around here, but not as good Vegas. Just to clear up some confusion they do all you can eat crab leg's during the weekend Friday - Sunday and on Monday through Thursday it's by the pound. Selection is descent enough with prime rib/turkey station, mexican, italian, and asian stations. The food near the Mexican and Italian station were kinda sad. Most people were lining up for the prime rib, crab legs and asian stuff which also included Pho. There's also a huge salad bar too and a great selection of desserts! Although not the best crab legs, it's still ok if you eat a ton to make it worth it. If you don't then not sure if it's worth it for you. Our services staff was great though and probably why I give this 4 starts instead of 3! She was very attentive and cleared out our empty plates quickly every-time we got up to get refill our gluttonous bellies! haha read more

We used to come to the Centennial Buffet a lot in previous years. We always brought out of town guests here and were always happy with the food and service. It was a yearly treat to bring the grandchildren for the crab night. They loved it! But last year as we brought the grandchildren for their yearly treat. We had the security team called out on us and were RUDELY escorted out of the casino by a team of like 5. Just for showing up with children! I guess we had gotten by the security upstairs that should have warned us that children were no longer accepted in the buffet area. We didn't know. It was a rude awakening for all of us. The food at this buffet is awesome. Friday-Sunday nights they go all out - Prime Rib, crab legs, pasta, asian, and mexican food bars, huge salad bar - all for just $21. I would love to give Centennial Buffet 5 stars, but the service and LONG wait brings them down to 3. We have been to the buffet two times, the first time our server didn't have more than 30 seconds to talk to us. Every time we asked for something it took at least 10 minutes to get it. The food was so good, we went back. The second time we arrived at 7 on Saturday night. The wait was 2 hours. When we finally got in, it turns out there was no wait at all, they were actually slow, they were just creating a wait so people would gamble. Ummmm...no thanks. I really love fine dining. My expectations of the food and service is super high and when it's met or exceeded, I'm in heaven. Yet, my expectations at a top vegas buffet would be different and therefore one in Blackhawk is adjusted even more. With that said, this was a really good buffet that I can't wait to come back to. We actually did a cursory walk through and were initially turned off by all of it (except for the obviously ample dessert station). There was nearly no carving meat, ziti looked dry, and pot roast was nearly empty, to name a few. So we had our drink and made the move, what did we find? Super tasty carved prime rib, I think the ziti was pesto and it was delicious, pot roast cooked well, just adequate asian food (oddly enough because there was an asian dude right there cooking it) but I was told he made a mean pho, and the bountiful dessert station where everything tasted great- especially the wonderful bread pudding. It took a 2nd trip to even notice the large horseshoe salad bar which had the cutest mini-wedge salads (I can't believe I just wrote that). Too bad the fruit was not fresh and inedible. We paid $17 each. There were no crab legs that night (maybe mid-week). It was very good and we want to return. read more

My husband and I ate here on the Saturday before Easter during a weekend trip to Golden. Neither of us had ever been to any of the Blackhawk casinos or restaurants, so we weren't sure what to expect. I'm vegetarian, so I really wasn't sure what kind of selection there would be for me but I figured if nothing else, I could have bread, salad and dessert. When we got there around 6, there was a huge line to get in. Unfortunately the line was incredibly slow-moving, and I couldn't even see the register area for a good 20 minutes. I can't remember how long we waited but it had to be at least 30-45 minutes. For some reason the whole process of paying and telling them what drink you wanted was incredibly slow as well. We really didn't understand what the hold-up was, because there were plenty of empty tables. Finally we were seated and had a chance to check out the food selection. The buffet was larger than I'd expected, and the selection was okay. There were several different sections for various types of food... Asian, Mexican, Italian, salads, breads, desserts, etc. I guess there was more there for me to eat than I'd expected, but I didn't trust a lot of things (like the mushroom risotto or soups, which I assumed had chicken stock in them). I know I could've asked someone but I just stuck to things I knew were okay (guacamole tacos, pasta, bread, veggies). Overall, it definitely wasn't worth the price for me to eat there but I didn't mind going so my husband could enjoy the seafood and various meat entrees (and I did my best to eat my money's worth of desserts!). To be honest, I wasn't terribly impressed with the quality of the food. I'd say the entrees were average at best, with a couple of things really not tasting any better than something you'd find at a Country Buffet, and a couple of things standing out a bit more. Everything seemed very fresh and when something ran out, it was refilled fairly quickly but I was there during the peak dinner rush so I would hope that would be the case! The thing that really saved the buffet for me was the dessert section. I am actually not a huge dessert fan, but I tried a bunch of different things and they were all pretty excellent. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of room left by the time I made it to dessert, but I still managed to sample a fair amount of things. They had everything from cookies to eclairs to pie to ice cream to tarts and 7-layer bars, and it was all very good. I think if I hadn't been to Vegas, I might've been more impressed with this place but even though my expectations weren't that high, I just didn't find it worth going back to again. I know the main draw seemed to be the crab legs (and obviously I didn't try those), but my husband had those and wasn't that impressed either. For $20-something, you get to try a variety of foods and it's something different, so I would recommend trying it at least once. Ate two meals here recently. Both were uninspired. Lunch was certainly overpriced. Fried chicken was good. They also serve Vietnamese pho, probably as a nod to the significant number of Asians gambling at the Ameristar. Desserts were also good too. Centennial Buffet is not as bad as some ppl make it out to be. As long as you go on a weekend evening and for $21.99/person its not too bad. King Crab Leg quality isn't that great as compared to Calypso's but Centennial has much more variety & better quality food. Seating furniture & atmosphere is also better than Calypso's which feels like a cafeteria. Since they rotate their menu; food will vary. When I first went there: New England clam chowder soup & their Italian potato pasta gnocchi was amazing. However next several times I visited; they did not have it. Like all buffets; the more you go; the worse it gets as one knit picks on the quality & taste of the food. But overall; compared to all the other buffets around this area I would say this the best one. Yelp should have half star denomination. If so I would give it a 3.5 star instead of 4. read more

Dear God Almighty, what happened to this place? It used to be fantastic. We didn't eat breakfast and drove up to Blackhawk on empty stomachs, ready to indulge in the glorious food. TOTAL AND COMPLETE SHOCK. It was AWFUL. It is not the same buffet we used to visit. Everything was tastless and gooey and made from processed foods. I mean, it was really really bad. I searched for things to eat..put them on my plate in hopes discovering something. I'd take a bite and not take a second one...on just about every thing I tried. All to say, our entire family sat there depressed. What the heck happened? Even the desserts sucked. The LOOKED ok, but the flavors and textures were dire. A "creme brulee" tasted like it was made from powdered custard mix and a few days ago. It had a rubbery texture. Ugh. So sad. As we used the restroom before leaving, our 8yr old said, "Man. I was hungry in-between gambling so I hit the buffet. I haven't been @ 'Centennial' over a year and thought the food was about the same. Nothing spectacular but nothing terrible. The Duck salad was delicious. The meat was tender, flavorful, and had nice texture to it. The Linguini w/Clams was ok. It was a bit salty but when it has to sit at a station for x minutes, it's hard to have it served the way it ought to be. The dessert bar didn't wasn't as in-depth as it was a few years ago. For example, they use to make this pyramid shaped mousse that was absolutely awesome. I suspect they had a professional pastry chef back when. Today, it's very generic with the usual cookies, cheese cake, pies, etc. BTW: the server never asked to refill my drinks until I was on dessert. That was probably 20-30 min after sitting down at the table. I don't complain because I'm not high maintenance but if I had to call it for what it is, he was inattentive (he was young so I chalk it up to the youth factor). read more

Biggest mistake of my life. I came here on a Tuesday night with a couple pals. We were sad there was not all you can eat king crab as we were told. In desperation for food we got it anyways. So we continued on. I got a corona at the register but they never gave me a receipt so I didn't receive it until I told the waiter. That was fine but I was the only one in the group that didn't get one. So the food began. I started down the row and got mussels. They were cold and were not well seasoned at all. I then got some of the meat that they cut for you. Honestly, I've never had meat so dry. I then got the pho because the waiter said it's the best. Again it was a mistake. Worst pho I've ever had in my life. The noodles were not cooked all the way. Flavorless soup and hard to eat meat. Had some cha siu pork and it was either way too fatty to eat or dry. No wonder they were almost out of A1 sauce. My friend got the shrimp and it looked like food poisoning on a plate.
