I then was assigned another Dr and he was OK, but nowhere near as good as Dr Calvo so I jumped at the chance to see him again. Dr Calvo's "bedside" manner is excellent and he always gives me good detail on what is going on and explains it to me in ways I can understand. He is always friendly and cordial and I never feel like I am just a number to him, but that he really has an interest in my well being. In addition the staff is always friendly and helpful with great attitude's. I would highly recommend him.

Wellish Vision Institute was excellent in every aspect of my visit…read more I had LASIK on both of my eyes performed by Dr. Wellish and cannot begin to describe how life changing the outcome is. My vision wasn't terrible but I did have to wear glasses or contacts for everything everyday all day for anything for 25 years until Dr. Wellish fixed my eyes. I was nervous about having the procedure done (who wouldn't be nervous about lasers in your eyes!?) the staff that he has working with him did an excellent job of addressing my concerns and putting me at ease while I waited in the relaxation room - they made sure that I was comfortable and that my anxiety was subsided. When it was time for the procedure it was very quick and very professional; not a skip in the beat. It was very clear that Dr. Wellish and his staff are very good and quite possibly the very best at what they do. Dr. Wellish was very empathetic during the process as well and made sure that I knew what to expect as it was happening so that I wouldn't be caught off guard in anyway. Healing was exactly as they said - it was roughly a day and I could see wonderfully for the first time in a very long time. My vision continued to get clearer and clearer as the days went on and now my vision is better than perfect! I had my follow up visits with Dr. McCandless who is also amazing! He was very informative on after care and addressed all of my questions and any concerns I had. He filled out the DMV paperwork for me as well so that I can have the appropriate wording on my drivers license. If you have EVER considered LASIK- I encourage you to do it!!! And I greatly recommend Dr. Wellish and his staff!

They have 2 offices on the same floor in the same building (both with signs that say "Wellish Abrams") and after checking in at the front desk we sat for an half hour but ten minutes past our appointment time someone called over from the other office and said I was in the wrong place and they had been searching all over for me assuming maybe I was stuck in the bathroom. It was quite a long time and lextensive process before we saw Dr Shah for about 3-5 minutes and he said I have a Vitreous Hemorrhage, it is very serious, and I need to see someone right away. I was referred to a retina specialist that was closed so I was told to call Desert Retina first thing the next day. The Wellish Abrams workers never faxed the referral with notes to Desert Retina so the operator at Desert Retina asked me to call Wellish Abrams and request they send the referral and notes. Wellish Abrams does not answer their phones, they employ an answering service which says they will try to get the request to Wellish Abrams within 24 hours. After 24 hours you must trust that the people who did not send the referral the first time will do it the next day. I do not understand why the process has to be such a circus, if you have an eye emergency why can't you go to one place and get all your medical needs accomplished? Southern Hills sent me to Wellish, which took 2 days, Wellish sent me to Desert Retina and didn't forward the referral and notes and meanwhile my eyeball is hemorrhaging. 3 doctors along the way stressed to me that my situation is an emergency and could result in blindness if not handled expeditiously.

I want to start off by saying some positive things about my experience. First, this office was able…read moreto make an appointment for my dog sooner than any other ophthalmologist could. And the receptionist/aid was sweet to my dog. I did not find her to be rude like the other reviews suggested. In my first visit, Dr Brinkman was delayed in seeing me for personal reasons, and he acknowledged and was appreciative of my patience - very nice. Dr Brinkman is very knowledgeable and thorough in explaining the problem and how to fix it. For the task required to help my dog, he was competent. I believe he is a capable animal ophthalmologist. Now, here are some things the office needs to work on. When you open the door to the clinic, the door has some jagged washer type things screwed into the door - looks like a handle broke off - it snagged my clothing. Imagine what it will to to a persons skin. That's an easy fix. The receptionist said I was the first to mention it, so hopefully it will get done. The exam rooms need a cleaning from floor to ceiling. I have never been in a veterinary facility so unsanitary. Again, should be an easy fix. Hire someone to keep the clinic clean. Speaking of the exam rooms, during my first visit, I was placed in room 1 by the receptionist, and then the receptionist told the next dog family to go to room 1 as well. Luckily the other dog family was aware I was in there, otherwise it might have resulted in a dangerous confrontation with dogs. I have no idea how they could prevent that in the future, but I'm sure clinics have ways. Now, there are some charges that I did pay for, but I should've disputed them. One was the cost of the pressure test. I'm not sure why my dog needed one but I guess it's just part of the initial exam... whatever. But the receptionist/aid couldn't get my dog to cooperate during the test on her injured eye (obviously) so she said she'd have the doctor do it. He didn't do it, but I was charged for having both eyes pressured tested. My dog needed a debridement because the ulcer in her eye was not healing properly. That required an anesthetic to numb her eye. I had to drop it in myself while I waited on the doctor. I was charged $90 ($45 twice) for maybe 8 drops of used, unsanitary, expired anesthetic that I had to administer myself. Then the doctor came in and performed the debridement with about 3 or 4 swabs dipped in some solution, and I was charged $35 for the swabs alone. That is an outrageous price for Qtips. And they weren't even in a sealed package. Thankfully, the procedure worked! I was honestly worried that more harm than good would come from that visit. I really do appreciate that Dr Brinkman was successful in helping my dog, but should I need an ophthalmologist in the future, I will probably go elsewhere.

He is very well qualified and I trust him (5+ Stars) Unfortunately NV Eye decided to perform a refraction during my initial eye exam. Apparently Medicare never covers this test and has denied the charge. NV Eye is billing me. I did not know that they would do this test nor, at the time, that it is not covered by Medicare. When I scheduled the appointment I made sure that they knew it was for a glaucoma-related exam. I have been having these exams, covered by Medicare, yearly since 2013. Online research reveals that refraction is for glasses/contact lens prescriptions. I did not receive or request such a prescription. I called NV Eye billing to discuss. The rep told me that because I signed the acceptance of financial liability form (the boiler plate form in the new patient pkg with the hippa info - basically that everyone must sign to get an appointment), I am responsible for the charge. I asked if there is an ABN - no, just this blanket form. She told me to call the medical office to discuss why this test was done on a Medicare beneficiary at all. She told me that her supervisor would call me. I called the office again and was sent straight to Billing. The supervisor has never called me. I do not know why NV Eye would perform an uncovered test as a part of a covered eye exam. I canceled my next appointment with Dr. Singh (6/8/26) because I cannot trust that they will not perform uncovered procedures without my permission. I am extremely disappointed, I was planning to schedule cataract surgery with Dr. Singh but cannot afford uncovered medical procedures. I sustained an eye injury on a Thursday night…read more Because medical care for eye injury is so specialized, it would not have been faster or easier to go to an urgent care or an emergency room since they would need to call in an eye doctor at night, which is pretty hard to get. The next morning I called Shepherd Eye Center to have my eye injury evaluated. They gave me an appointment within 45 minutes at an eye center near my home. When you have an eye injury requiring very specialized healthcare that can't be found at an urgent care or emergency room, this is the type of rapid response care you would hope for, but would be unlikely to find anywhere else but Shepherd Eye Center Thank you, Shepherd Eye Center!

Huge operation - lots of staff, lots of patients, lots of parking - and an overflow lot!…read more Saw 2 different techs before OD who did various tests. They seemed knowledgable and were patient. Front desk lady who was super rude. Kept yelling at patients if they were doing a medical or eye check visit - when clearly the patients are unclear on what insurance covers. When it was my turn to be publicly shamed I asked a few more questions, like what a medical exam did. She asked for my insurance type and then told me it would be $90 for the medical exam and free for the vision test. After being put on the spot about shaming me that I didn't care about detecting the health of my eyes, I opted for the included visit. I waited 30 mins to be seen and was at this place for 2 HOURS!! It was visit a tech, sit in waiting room, visit tech, sit in waiting room, sit in dr office waiting, see doctor - which was a 2 hour endeavor (for not the medical procedure). Not a fan.
