Wellish Vision Institute was excellent in every aspect of my visit. I had LASIK on both of my eyes performed by Dr. Wellish and cannot begin to describe how life changing the outcome is. My vision wasn't terrible but I did have to wear glasses or contacts for everything everyday all day for anything for 25 years until Dr. Wellish fixed my eyes. I was nervous about having the procedure done (who wouldn't be nervous about lasers in your eyes!?) the staff that he has working with him did an excellent job of addressing my concerns and putting me at ease while I waited in the relaxation room - they made sure that I was comfortable and that my anxiety was subsided. When it was time for the procedure it was very quick and very professional; not a skip in the beat. It was very clear that Dr. Wellish and his staff are very good and quite possibly the very best at what they do. Dr. Wellish was very empathetic during the process as well and made sure that I knew what to expect as it was happening so that I wouldn't be caught off guard in anyway. Healing was exactly as they said - it was roughly a day and I could see wonderfully for the first time in a very long time. My vision continued to get clearer and clearer as the days went on and now my vision is better than perfect! I had my follow up visits with Dr. McCandless who is also amazing! He was very informative on after care and addressed all of my questions and any concerns I had. He filled out the DMV paperwork for me as well so that I can have the appropriate wording on my drivers license. If you have EVER considered LASIK- I encourage you to do it!!! TLDR: If you have an eye emergency avoid this clinic but you may be fine if it is not an emergency. Nice, cordial doctor and workers but very disorganized. They have 2 offices on the same floor in the same building (both with signs that say "Wellish Abrams") and after checking in at the front desk we sat for an half hour but ten minutes past our appointment time someone called over from the other office and said I was in the wrong place and they had been searching all over for me assuming maybe I was stuck in the bathroom. It was quite a long time and lextensive process before we saw Dr Shah for about 3-5 minutes and he said I have a Vitreous Hemorrhage, it is very serious, and I need to see someone right away. I was referred to a retina specialist that was closed so I was told to call Desert Retina first thing the next day. The Wellish Abrams workers never faxed the referral with notes to Desert Retina so the operator at Desert Retina asked me to call Wellish Abrams and request they send the referral and notes. Wellish Abrams does not answer their phones, they employ an answering service which says they will try to get the request to Wellish Abrams within 24 hours. After 24 hours you must trust that the people who did not send the referral the first time will do it the next day. I do not understand why the process has to be such a circus, if you have an eye emergency why can't you go to one place and get all your medical needs accomplished? Southern Hills sent me to Wellish, which took 2 days, Wellish sent me to Desert Retina and didn't forward the referral and notes and meanwhile my eyeball is hemorrhaging. 3 doctors along the way stressed to me that my situation is an emergency and could result in blindness if not handled expeditiously. read more

His merger with Wellish now won't see me because i'm a pay out of pocket since my insurance isn't valid with them. i have paid direct with Dr. Abrams for years. The doctors are the best ever, the staff will bring you to tears. I'm in tears writing this review. The staff at all locations are ignorant and lack training. The manager Laura is non existent and the scheduler Dahlia and is a robotic idiot. My follow-up appointment with Dr. Abrams was canceled. The idiot on the phone clearly had no clue what she was doing because she continued to place me on hold to ask someone else my questions due to not having the answers. She then told me to reach out to my insurance and ask them my questions, which I did. My insurance then confirmed they have paid Wellish just 2 weeks ago and have continued to do so. I was referred to this eye institute by my optometrist and it is by far the worst referral ever experienced. The visit for my cataracts and small tear in my retina consisted of being called in by 3 or 4 different technicians while being put in a cold waiting room for 45 to 75 minutes in between seeing each one. After the third appointment lasting over 3 hours and one over 4 hours I finally decided to leave and find another ophthalmologist. This institute was a waste of time and money having to pay a copay for each visit when everything could have been arranged for the surgery with one visit as it was with another ophthalmologist. I would not recommend this eye institute to anyone unless they like sitting in waiting rooms watching fancy home videos. I have no complaint of the technicians but was forced to buy products that were only available from their office and could notbe found at drug stores or pharmacies. Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Unprofessional Behavior and Poor Service To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally express my concern and disappointment regarding my recent experience at your facility. I initially had an appointment scheduled for Monday, July 28, 2025, at 7:50 AM. However, when I arrived, the office lights were off and it appeared that the location was closed. Since I had to report to work shortly thereafter, I called your office once I arrived at my workplace to reschedule my appointment. A customer service representative assisted me in rescheduling for the following day, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 8:20 AM. On the morning of July 29, I arrived early, anticipating that I might need to complete some paperwork. After scanning my ID upon arrival, I was prompted to check in at the front desk. I approached the front desk and was assisted by a young Hispanic woman, whose behavior was shockingly unprofessional and discourteous from the very beginning of our interaction. She greeted me with a dismissive and condescending attitude, including rolling her eyes, twisting her neck, and speaking in a rude and irritated tone. When I provided my name, she bluntly said, "What are you doing here? Your appointment was yesterday," despite the fact that I had rescheduled my appointment through a phone representative. When I explained that the appointment had been rescheduled, she seemed even more agitated by my response. I calmly asked how long the wait would be, and she told me, without any courtesy or explanation, "Two and a half hours." At that point, I asked her to double-check the system and confirm that I was not on the schedule so that I could make alternative arrangements elsewhere. Her only response was a very unprofessional, "Bye." All of this occurred before 8:00 AM, setting a negative tone for the rest of my day. The front desk representative's attitude, body language, and tone were completely unacceptable for someone in a customer-facing role. Her lack of professionalism, empathy, and courtesy was deeply disappointing and frankly, unacceptable for any healthcare or service-oriented environment. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed and taken seriously. No customer should be treated in such a demeaning and disrespectful manner, especially when attempting to receive care or assistance. I also ask that you look into the scheduling system and how rescheduled appointments are communicated to your front desk staff, as this miscommunication seems to have contributed to the issue. They told her she canceled her appointment which was a lie because my wife confirmed in her call history that she did not in fact call them on the date they said she called to cancel. Then the receptionist back pedaled by claiming the person that did the appointment was no longer there anymore. Instead of placing another appointment for my wife they instructed her to place the appointment when it was clearly their fault. This location is disrespectful of customers time. I was self refered to see this doctor out of location convenience without seeing the Yelp.(If l did, l might not see him). I am in for an annual checkup knowing l have early cataract. I have Medicare and good supplements secondary insurance which pays everything that Medicare doesn't pay. The medical assistant did my glasses check and got me better than 20/30 vision in each eye with the new prescription, the medical assistant kept asking me if l have blur vision more than six times, l said no with the glasses. I was asking if l am interested in cataract surgery. Once l said no, the rest of the exam became rushing. After a complete eye exam, this doctor would not give me a new prescription cited Medicare does not cover, unless I pay $65 cash. OMG, this is first ever in my experiences visiting ophthalmologists. His assistant further stated, the dr. would consider give me the eye glasses prescription if l consider premium lenses cataract surgery. Asking what is that entails, that means using premium lens which Medicare and the supplement insurance wouldn't pay, and the patient has to pay out of his pocket.bl walked the office with a feeling of being cheated, not getting a prescription in my hand. I don't know how much they would charge my insurance. I think the are pushing me for cataract surgery which l don't think l need it at this point. I had my second cataract surgery and it went just as well as the first. The gal who did my pre-op was Mia & she was so great. I travel for work so all of my appointments have to be on Fridays. As a result I have been to all four of their office locations. I have never experienced a long wait time. Every single person I dealt with, from the front office associates to the nurses in the back were all extremely friendly and efficient. Dr Trent was awesome. He literally gave me my sight back. I don't need glasses anymore to see far away. I can drive at night no problem. My vision is excellent. It is now more than 2-years since my [second] botched cataract surgery by Kent Wellish. Having tried to get some help from this so-called "medical institute." While I note the minimal 85 reviews of Wellish Eye Institute have a "Good" rating, it is essential to note the 18 "poor" reviews, which account for over 21% of the reviews overall for this questionable, uncaring, and dangerous medical facility. Having been to Wellish Eye Institute numerous times pleading for help, you would think someone would have addressed my situation. That's not the case, and Kent Wellish and the staff are not concerned with how they have affected my life. I urge you to carefully read my previous review before making your decision to use the Wellish Eye Institute. NOVEMBER 2018 REVIEW To place your vision at risk is a tough decision. You can do all the research in the world; read reviews that may or may not be accurate or trustworthy, speak to the AMA that is limited in what they can tell you, etc., but it ultimately comes down to trust in the person that takes an oath to "do no harm." He and his associate, K.C. McCandless, O.D., even told me that my vision would continue to improve over time, to delay what I now realize was a stall tactic to avoid potential legal action. When we were beyond the legal limit to sue this charlatan, he told me that he had warned me of the dangers and now has left me legally blind in my left eye from relatively simple everyday cataract surgery, his words, not mine. Of course, this is a bald-faced lie. Now I cannot litigate against The Wellish Eye Institute, Dr. Kent Wellish, but I can forewarn those that might fall prey to his inferior surgical abilities. After 10-hours and more on his feet, I should have known over six-plus hours after I arrived for scheduled surgery that this doctor was all about the revenue stream and didn't care when I asked if we should instead do my surgery another day? No, he decided to risk my vision after standing for at least 10-hours and conducting a dozen and more operations back to back to back. I should have realized that when you see a doctor only once before surgery that nothing is about or for the patient, it's all about the money! What is curious about Kent Wellish's defense is that I had the "previous condition" in both eyes 35 years ago, and only his surgery caused the loss of my vision? The other cataract surgery, thank goodness, was a success. I find it very convenient for Kent Wellish to use this as an excuse. I urge those reading this review to take a good long hard look at a doctor that will not meet with you before your surgery and office-wait times that repeatedly make you sit for up to three hours at a time. And, a doctor that speaks to his assistant more than he communicates with you, the patient. All of these should lead you to the decision to move to the next surgical Ophthalmologist. I can get messages to remind me of my appointment for precheck paperwork, but I can't get a message that they are running over an hour late for appointments? They demand payment of services at the time service.... and if I was an hour late for my appointment, my appointment would probably be canceled. I had my first cataract surgery done at wellish and the doctor's and medical staff were wonderful. Unfortunately the billing department was an issue, first they accepted my insurance, then they didn't, then they did, and again they didn't, finally after agreeing to being a cash pay patient I received four calls with four different prices. Of course every price went up but I "bit the bullet" and had it done anyway. My other eye is now having the same issue and I went in for a consultation after explaining my insurance situation very thoroughly with them because of the snafu the first time. When it came time to pay I was hit with three different escalating prices again and remember that this is just for the initial consultation. I walked out. I had my Lasik surgery in October of 2022. I went to my follow up appointment for 6 consecutive months since they had stated they would do an adjustment in one of my eyes as my near vision was not great. Every time I would go in, they would give me an excuse of why we needed to wait longer. For my 7th appointment they called to cancel. Every time I called to reschedule, they would transfer the call and I would get a voicemail. Tried that for multiple times. I even tried going in the office and they told me they would have someone call me. That never happened. After that they told me since it had been over a year, I didn't qualify for the adjustment. Here is my experience thus far, I would prefer not to rate with stars & just disclose the facts. I Had LASIK performed June 30th... There were 2 procedures offered. One standard and a second which was custom approximately an additional $1300. I asked if I needed the procedure and the doctor said you only have one pair of eyes in which I agreed & paid cashiers check over $4000. (Recommended mono vision correction). Fee does not include 3 types of eye drops @ $140 , fish oil etc.). Super blurry following the procedure in which I thought would pass & perhaps my eyes needed to adjust. *Follow up appointment one pair of plugs inserted which can cause constant tearing. Still can't see. *Next appointment second pair of plugs inserted. Still can't see. * 3rd apt. I still can't see. The doctor gave me a prescription for glasses and said I would need an "enhancement " in 4-6 mos. @ minimum. I'm heartbroken... Recommended possible temporary treatment options. *Buy New Glasses. Wth!?! *I was advised to purchase a special humidifier approximately $450. *Directed to a website to purchase additional supplements. *Additional Eye Drops -3 kinds * Possible dry eye procedures required- IPL My vision very blurry, eyes always tearing ,depth perception off , night vision really bad. not safe & I'm hoping to find a resolution to get back to life. I will go in for a test this week to see if dry eyes are causing part of the problem which may require additional procedures to follow ,but 75% I still need an "enhancement." Phenomenal practice! Dr Wellish is absolutely top-notch, the staff is incredible and friendly, and I love Heidy -- who does all the extra level of service and follow-up. When i was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes at an unusually young age, I was amazed at the expertise and knowledge, choices and recommendations, and terrific care. The office seems also to run very efficiently. The surgery itself was a breeze, 1 hr of prep, and a 10 minute surgery. i did one eye per visit, and could see immediately afte, albeit sensitive to light. Dr Wellish is truly terrific. The follow-up vists were very accomodating to my schedule, and I am very pleased with my vision now - no glasses and i can see fantastic! One word of caution: with the choices in lenses, there is a great variance of costs. Some, my insurance would have paid 100%, others only 50%. If financial is part of your decison choice, make sure you understand ALL the costs for out-of-pocket. This would include the meds, drops, and surgery center costs along with any lens costs before you choose. read more

Update to clarify, and feel free to relay or even forward this: the "out of box" questions in my case concerned ultraviolet vision in people with aphakia or with non-blocking IOL implants. Nothing was confirmed or denied. It was like I was talking to politicians on that subject. It cost you a review star. I expect intelligent and highly trained professionals to be candid with their clients. Guys, I was a customer with questions, and this is literally right in the MIDDLE of a cataract surgeon's field, as eyes are briefly aphakic during the middle of the procedure. I don't know if all that reticence came from lack of candor, lack of knowledge or even lack of curiosity. None of those seem like reasonable possibilities, but how would YOU explain it? My wife had lots of eye complaints over the years and she experienced bad vision dry eyes and other problems. She looked all over for a good eye surgeon and settled in on dr Wellish. The decision was not an easy one and it took a lot of time, with the custom service that he provided it was the right one. When I took her there for the procedure she was seen right away. They took her back there and did the eyes and you could tell that the equipment was top notch. Obviously this is a good operation, otherwise why would they allow anyone to watch through the glass. This doctor has nothing to hide and is proud to put his work on display. He talked to us both afterward and provided guidance. The follow up was extensive. There were precautions given about what she could do in the time following the operation and everything was accurate. The vision was totally improved better than 20 20 and that was checked by a second independent eye doctor I can't think of anything not to like read more

Words could not fully describe how happy I am with my LASIK surgery experience. From my first call, pre-op, surgery and post-ops, everyone was so warm, friendly and made you feel like family. I have been a patient of Dr. Wellish since 2001 and have always been impressed with the professionalism of the staff, and, of course the outcome of procedures so expertly performed by Dr. Wellish. In June of 2018 my eyesight took a turn for the worse, and after a thorough consult Dr. McCandless, Dr. Matthesis, and Dr. Ortiz concluded I had severe dry eyes, along with cataracts. They put me on an in-depth treatment plan to improve the dry eye issue and referred me to Dr. Wellish to dicuss the cataracts. Dr. Wellish has always been conservative in his approach, as he was this time. He explained that until the dry eyes were much improved, he would not risk doing the surgery. I appreciated that and continued the protocol for 3 months, coming in every couple of weeks for check ups. Finally, Dr. Wellish agreed I was ready and I had both cataracts removed two weeks apart with no complications. Every staff member throughout this process made me feel comfortable. They were friendly, compassionate, informative and professional. They all worked together as a team. Of course, as always, Dr. Wellish made miraculous improvements in both my close-up and distance vision. I can see perfectly, with no eyeglasses or assistance and colors are much brighter now. I requested a consult which requires supplying personal information. No big deal. Until you cancel your appointment and the harassment begins. I have cancelled my appointment several times-email and telephone. They continue to blow up my email and text. Each time I received a text or email I again cancelled my appointment. Yep, 5 stars. This is a kick. I read the ratings on Wellish before I scheduled the work (cataract removal) - it was either 1 or 5, none in between. Well, I am a 5. With the evaluations and surgeries, I have been in both Flamingo offices and the surgery center off of Tenaya. I have to say that every person I encountered (maybe 20 of them) was considerate, seemed professional, and was gentle (I am a pansy in such matters). None of the staff seemed to be interested in pushing me along (i.e. quantity over quality). Dr. Wellish was a hoot - he made a point to see and chat with me for a moment at each surgery. The result is I can see better than I have in years. I have not been to the other ophthalmologists in the city but I can sure recommend the Wellish Institute. read more

Went to the Wellish Institute on Flamingo Rd with my 87 year old mother for Cataract Surgery diagnosis. She walked in scared and anxious, but from checkin all the way to the very end where we scheduled the surgery it was a surreal and amazing experience. The staff is so friendly and sympathetic that it brings calm and peace to the patient. They explain everything thoroughly. Wait time as far as I'm concerned is acceptable, because no one is rushed. Always remember that the same time and courtesy will also be extended to you. Special thanks to Jorge, Mia, Gisel, Juan, Dr. Wellish and his assistant. Surgery is scheduled for the first eye on Feb 27th. We can't wait for this ordeal to be done, however, we will recommend this office without any hesitation. i got Lasik in May of 2021. it is now November and I'm wearing glasses more than before the surgery. I was told it would take time for my eyes to recover from the surgery but my vision would improve. IT HAS NOT. My up close vision is horrible. I mean I can't see at night, i need glasses to see my phone! I'm 50 yr old! This surgery was the biggest mistake. read more
