I am working with Bryan--lots of "creds" (PT, DPT, CSCS, MHA) behind his name with a masters and doctorate in musculoskeletal health and physical conditioning. He loves teaching and coaching! But can he help mend a body with years and miles of thrills and spills banging and bouncing off rocks, dirt and pavement? And way-long-ago injuries playing indoor and outdoor sports. Iv'e been in PT a month now with Bryan and progressing well. I like how Bryan analyzed my injuries and showed me a 3-D color anatomy model or what is causing my pain on his computer. Then, he devised conditioning routines I do at 24 HR Fitness. Also, he emailed a description with pictures of each exercise--very helpful when working out on you own. And it is impressive Bryan continues his education, currently pursuing dry needling (allowed in 34 states) but not yet approved in Oregon. He is getting ahead of the curve. Working on my shoulder impingement, Bryan drug a dull instrument (looks like a big butter knife) over my shoulders to break up "knotty" connective tissue. He manipulated and stretched my neck. My shoulder was so loose and fired up when I left this session, I could take an ake and chop down a giant redwood tree--of course, a tree hugger like me would never hack a redwood! My neck and shoulders have not felt that "loosey-gossey" in 5 years. I really love the treatment here--casual and professional. Most of all I'm feeling better. Getting stronger! And knowing when I'm working out on my own I'm working on the right things, the right way! And I can email, text or call anytime with questions. There is more hope for recovery--especially, if you have a competent MR. PT Proactive Zoe at front desk has a patient caring spirit too and really helped round up authorization's through my insurance company.

The clinic has been in its current location since 2005. There is a dedicated parking lot available, and the clinic is in close proximity to Trimet and MAX line stops. Hours are M-F 7:00-7:00 and they take most major insurance policies. The space has two levels with private treatment rooms and gyms on both floors. There are currently 10 therapists on staff and they represent an impressive diversity of specialties: orthopedic, neurological, pelvic health, pediatrics and sports. They also have sophisticated equipment to utilize diagnostic ultrasound and biofeedback to determine the etiology of your condition. For treatment, they have all traditional exercise equipment as well as shockwave and laser therapies. If you're looking for exceptional care from a professional group of highly trained providers, this is your place for superior musculoskeletal treatment. The PT staff is friendly, skilled and knowledgeable... it's a health experience that can't be missed! (All photos used with explicit permission from staff and patients)

I had an experience at West Portland Physical therapy with one of the PTs, Rhi, that breached the…read moreboundaries of what is appropriate behavior for a medical provider. I went here for more than a year. I loved working with Rhi for a while, But then something changed. When I would come in and talk about the pain I was in (I have an old spinal cord injury from an extensive spinal fusion with rods and bolts), they started to push the idea that it was my fault that I was in pain because I wasn't being mindful enough of how I was moving- she told me I was sitting down wrong, and that if I couldn't apply my PT exercises to my everyday life, that they were meaningless. This was really discouraging. She decided I needed to create a schedule for my week and bring it back to show her, because this would "fix" my "mindfulness" issue. I have been so busy that it was hard for me to find time to sit down to create a schedule. As a result, I rescheduled my next appointment because I wasn't able to get it done in time, and I was nervous because she seemed to think most of my problems were coming from a failure of personal responsibility. But I still got this homework completed and brought it to my next appointment. Unfortunately for me, however, I had put the wrong time down in my calendar (appt was at 11:40 and I put 11:50) so I got there late. I was very nervous about this, considering I had to create a schedule to show her to prove I was putting in the effort she expected of me, and I had ironically arrived late. What followed was a dressing-down the likes of which I never anticipated to get from somebody who was supposed to be helping me. She told me I was late/rescheduled more than once and it was a problem for her. She told me that they'd made "certain accommodations" for me like doing appointment reminder calls, but that it was a burden for their office staff to do that. They were the ones that offered this in the first place. She then said "I don't want to be just another person you have to worry about disappointing" which was really hurtful because I hadn't thought of her being disappointed in me because she was my medical provider who was supposed to be there to support me, especially when things are hard. She asked if I thought physical therapy was too much for me to handle right now. I told her no, I need to prioritize physical therapy. She told me that was her job (????) and then told me she was going to cancel the next 2 weeks of my appointments (including appts made with a different provider for pelvic floor PT that she was not involved with) so I could "get things together at home" before continuing physical therapy. I was visibly panicking at this point and buried my face in my hands. She then said I could "change her mind," putting me in the position that I would have to beg and justify why I needed to continue physical therapy in order for her to not unilaterally make the decision to cancel appointments, half of which weren't even with her. I asked her not to cancel my appointments because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to gather the courage to come back. She said fine, but that I should consider whether or not she was the right PT for me, and that I *have* to be on time, or she'd cancel my appointments. She said I'd come a long way but I was still late too often. As an example, she said I used to no longer walk with a cane and that was food. She spent such little time on MY needs as her patient that she didn't see the new cane I brought to get her opinion on. She finished the appt by telling me she'd have an assistant walk me through some breathing exercises because by the end of her tirade, I had dissolved into tears. The schedule I made to show her didn't even matter. I've been in physical therapy for more than half my life and I have never experienced anything like this. I cried in my car for an hour. Anna and Megan are great, but Rhi hurt me in ways that will take a long time for me to heal from, and will likely set my progress back by months as I try to gather the courage to try PT somewhere else.

He does not respond to emails or texts, and he gives off an aura of "I'm too busy" or doesn't care. Not sure who at this office decided that the front desk folks should really push customers to book 2X a week, but it's really annoying. I've never gone to a PT office that does this and I've been to many in my lifetime. I'm a single mom in debt on a very limited budget and I've had to explain my situation MULTIPLE times with Joshua and it's like he didn't even pay attention. Jeewa should be the one there in person versus Joshua as he's much nicer and professional acting. I've only worked with one of the PTs which was Dr.Ashley Chan. She's wonderful and was a pleasure to work with. No complaints there. The facility itself is pretty big and well stocked with machines and items. Unfortunately not worth the drive to keep going here, really hated the pressure to have to make 2 appts a week, and this office doesn't bill you which is bizarre.

She has this way of reading what's happening beneath the surface - how things are connected, compensating, and responding. The way she works with the body is thoughtful, intentional, and deeply skilled. I often describe her as a "body engineer." She can see what's misaligned or stuck and helps the body reorganize itself in a way that actually lasts. It's the only PT experience I have where not only my initially problematic symptoms got worse, but old unrelated ones flared up as well. In all of my visits there over two months, I was seen for initial assessment twice, which really was a waste of time/money for me. On the administrative side, their sessions are 45 min instead of 55-60 min elsewhere, so you get less treatment time for your money. Not only that, my sessions have been cut even shorter because of their late start and early finish. They don't always follow up with promised emails, don't give out exercise instructions, and don't have an online portal for all assigned exercises and instructions.

When he was released from the hospital he needed intense physical therapy. He was in RIO for 8 days. When he got there he couldn't walk or stand by himself. When he left after 8 days he could do both with the help of a walker. His speech also improved greatly. The staff here is amazing! They take the time to get to know their patients and their families. They work one on one with each patient. They cheer them on with every milestone. You couldn't ask for a better place to help your loved one get the care they need. We didn't think he would be able to go to RIO as it wasn't covered by the crappy insurance we had at the time. But the doctors and staff at Providence worked their magic and by the grace of God he was able to get the best care I've ever seen! They also had 2 family "update days" while he was there. The staff and my family all got together around a very large table while they told us of his progress and what to expect next. If you ever need great Physical Therapy, fight for this great place! Update: 4-24-25 My husband is doing great! He can walk without his walker but with occasional use of a cane. His speech is near normal unless he's very tired. He's driving again and baking (favorite past time) up a storm. Going back to work is still a few months off but he'll get there. Our family and I are forever grateful!

I cannot say enough good things about the experience we had with RIO. My 89 year old father had a…read morestroke and was in ICU for nearly a week. His doctor over at Tualatin Meridian Hospital really wanted my dad to go to RIO but it was out of network. Some kind of miracle came through between the hospitals, doctors and insurance and he was approved and moved to RIO. Their reputation is the among the best with the hospital staff and doctors, so we were quite eager to have him go there. My sister is a retired PT with a doctorate and she really wanted him there too. My dad had to undergo 3 weeks of intensive therapy, from PT, OT to speech therapy. The improvements gained during his stay were nothing short of miraculous. He relearned to walk, swallow and gain use of his right hand while there, among many other small miracles. They trained him how to get out of bed and use the walker safely so he could go home instead of to the a nursing home or assisted care. He is happily home again with my mom. He has home health care and is seeing improvements every day. I think that every minute counts when it comes to strokes and the fact that he got in at the right time with the right care meant everything for his progress. My sister, who has a degree in PT and knows her stuff was super impressed with all the care and treatment. Hospital food it terrible, but we were allowed to bring in food so my dad could regain his strength, so that helped a lot. While dad was in ICU, no visitors were allowed because of Covid, but RIO allowed 3 visitors to come and go which meant my mom, sister and I, who live closest, were able to visit, which lifted his spirits. But, there's no place like home and he is home safe and sound and luckily on his way to recovery. The best part was when he got to ring a bell 3 times for graduating and the staff gathered and applauded. Still makes me very emotional. It is the most important graduation of our lives. My sister will be writing a Google review so you can read the more technical side of his experience. If you have a choice, I give RIO my highest recommendation. I think the staff are angels.
