Hopefully leaving a 1 star review will make Root get in touch with me... I have left three emails, several voicemails, and actually did finally get in touch with the front desk twice- they told me they'd give me a call back and still have not. For three weeks I have tried to cancel my membership and for three weeks I have been completely ignored. Now I am going to be forced to block my debit card and get a new one (which if you've ever had to do, is an enormous hassle) I really hope this is an issue with poor communication and they are not trying to force people into continuing a membership, but at the moment it really feels like the latter. Attached to this review is proof of at least 5 of the times that I reached out to them to cancel. Still have not been contacted.

If you read my previous review, you know what a great massage therapist Katie is. I did deep tissue again for 90 minutes. The last massage was great. This one greater yet. She is dialed in on my Trigger points, like shoulders, hips and knees - but intently worked all over the body. After I showered, I felt like a Stumptown Gumby - "sing dat song, do dah, do dah, work da ROOTY tooty booty." Loose joints! Relaxed! Rejuvenated! So this review, I would like to share that It is not just massage. But the Root experience is great. You'll look good in the creamy robe with flip-flops. Get a locker with combination lock and big towel. Afterword, shower-up to wash off all the coconut oil. And you can visit the very soothin, laid-back tea room for a spot of tea. Or take a sauna. Great Root - Geez oh Pete, I signed up for the next 90 minute "go deep" massage. Stumptown Gumby our!

This was the first yoga studio I started off at and how lucky I was to do this. I originally went to their NE location and they've opened this NW location a few years ago. Owners are awesome and spared no expense in what they offer. This not just a yoga studio but also a place for wellness. Step in and you'll feel like you've entered a sanctuary for healing. Yoga studio is great. Quiet. Wonderful instruction. All the props you need. After class check out their tea room. Nice place to chill out. Their sauna is also awesome (and included in your dropin). Shower facilities are great - nice towels, robes, everything you need. And the NW location also has food! I've had juices as well as meals. They are all tasty and healthy, many asian inspired. Have not had any services done in NW but I have in NE. And they are wonderful

I was lucky enough to attend a private event here where I was introduced to several of their services like a yoga class, beginning acupuncture and their amazing cafe which focuses on vegan food but does have additional options for those of us meat eaters. I came back for a facial with Kelly and WOW...JUST WOW...Blown away as to the care and also the different nature of this facial. It was more aggressive but in a great way from any previous facial I have had. She specifically targeted my face and its desire to over oil. She used a cayenne face mask which tingled oh so good but wow, the difference. I was glowing after. After sampling their food I really would recommend you make some time when you go here to grab a soak or some sauna time before or after your service, have some tea and grab some snacks to refresh and nourish your body. This is such an inviting space and you are meant to stick around.

Dr. Scarlet's acupuncture was amazing! She is a gifted practitioner. I encourage others to go to her.

They made everything easy, even letting me borrow and fill a reusable water bottle -- which meant a lot since I'm traveling and living van life. The studio was clean and calming, and I was especially impressed by how spotless the restrooms and showers were. That honestly made my whole day. The class itself felt grounding, inclusive, and just what I needed. The instructor gave great cues and the atmosphere was warm without being intimidating. I left feeling stretched, centered, and really taken care of. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a studio with great energy, kind staff, and clean facilities. I was able to get in through the coffee shop O'vive as they share the space. There was a wonderful and very kind person that worked there named Grey and even though I dropped in on what I believe was his break, he rebooked me for their next class and explained the classes to me. He hooked me up with a mat which is free ( I think for your first time) and a locker key (in exchange for my I.D.) and let me know about the various lockers. Gendered and all inclusive! I was so stressed with being late and his vibe and the vibe of the studio calmed me down. The place was beautiful, squeeky clean and had pretty small light hanging like curtains on the windows that face Grand. There was some relaxing music playing from the cafe and it smelled amazing. It may have been the tea, the food or whatever else they were making there but it had a nice fragrance. I was able to chill on this beautiful blue sofa snd drink tea and write this review while I was waiting for the next class. The lockers and showere were also nice!! Photos included. I did the Power Flow Class with Eila and it was amazing! It was my first time and it was relaxing yet challenging. I didn't know it was more of an advanced class but I was ablebto keep it (mostly) I will definitely be coming back to do more of their class!

This is such a gem of a class that it feels like a gift to be able to be in such a sacred space. Their energies are so pure and calming, you can't help but sink into your mat and just float away onto a cloud. There is a cap to the class of about 10-12 students so it keeps the space intimate so you really get to experience this in a small setting. Our favorite is Rosey Wyland (who, by the way, is also a therapist). And, no wonder: her classes are warmly supportive and attentive, and she seems to really get the idea of what it means to be a beginner. What I don't understand is why they call the Saturday class a yoga basics class. I know I'm not an athlete, but the class is so darned hard and fast without clarity on which position was which -- really a yoga flow class -- that it seems like a misnomer to suggest it's for those needing guidance on yoga poses. Both times I've gone, they did not offer any modifications when I had to stop due to wrist pain. I wish they would just call it what it is: non-basic yoga for sturdy people. ;) Whatever the case, Rosey's class really is a beginner's class (or for those, like me) who have an injury. (Speaking of which, did you know that the main injury people, esp. women get, from yoga is tendonitis in the wrist? http://www.hss.edu/newsroom_yoga-injuries-on-the-rise-in-women.asp). However, with the right accommodations, yoga can also be immensely healing. That's why I go. Sellwood Yoga is a lovely studio, and Rosey does offer modifications for injuries, and I really love her class.

Whether it is just an energizing afternoon of Vinyasa Power Flow, or an evening of stretching and meditation with Recovery Yoga, or even a mind-opening experience in Cannabis Yoga... every class is taught with such intent, with caring for the individual and their bodies' needs and limitations, and so much love. Let me tell you a story... Years ago, I was struggling with my transition and many experiences had me sinking under the weight of feeling hated, disdained, or looked down upon by others. This had fed into the feelings of self-hatred that plague so many of us trans folk and I was so suicidal that I had a plan and a place all picked out. One night, I was so distressed, so panicked by the weight of pain that I was walking toward that place, ready at least to test my plan... or more..., when I noticed Yoga on Yamhill on my right. So many friends had suggested the place and how wonderful it was. I felt a sudden and strong urge to check it out. It was coming up on 9pm and... there was a Restorative Yin/Nidra class just about to begin. So, I turned in and ended up doing my very first yoga class ever. When it was all done, I felt as if the weight of the world was lifted off me, I could breathe again... I felt wonderful! Since then, I've attended so many classes here, mainly Yin and other stretching and gravity-focussed classes. I tried Hatha, and that was a great workout for me. I tried Vinyasa and OH MY GAWD that completely kicked my butt. I have gotten to know all the yogis here. Most of them are women and classes are mainly made up of women, making this a very welcoming and kind space, a wonderful place for those of us who do not "conform." There are guys teaching, mainly David Miller right now, who does Yin, Restorative, Cannabis Yoga, and events that blend Reiki, Massage, other healing arts, and yoga. This is a place to heal and grow, not just an exercise studio by another name. Please, if you need more than just a workout, come on in. The studio lost a lot of classes during CoViD, but it's recovering, new teachers are arriving and the schedule is filling out again. Take a look, at yogaonyamhill.com.
