I put off this review for far too long. I initially picked Central Animal Hospital almost 3 years ago when I moved to the US, and living in Campbell I said this is fine as it was close to me. The first visit, which was pre COVID, was fine, it was a regular checkup and nothing to report. When my cat started being sick, it all went downhill. I wont go into specific details of his sickness, but the customer service and lack of respect I have received from this place is uncanny. They do not care about your pet, not one bit. They will upsell you on a million tests, promising you quick turn around so you won't be going to one of the big hospitals like SAGE or MedVet. Guess what, quick turnaround? No such thing. I waited 4 days for xray results that were supposed to arrive in 24h, I called them on a Saturday asking for updates since it has been 4 days, and they gave me the run around. From 'we did not get them', to 'we actually just got them but your doctor will call you Monday'. Monday? Really? I have to wait an entire weekend to find out if my cat will be ok because my specific doctor is not on call? I've never in my life experience such garbage from a veterinarian. Not to mention the last few checkups during COVID, my cat has yet to receive a full checkup because, and I quote 'he has been fussy'. Are you for real? First off, 9 years I've had my cat and never once, have I heard from any vet that he has been fussy, and second, since pet parents cannot get in (even though the county is opening up and offered to show proof of vaccination as well as a recent COVID test) get another vet tech to help you!! What a joke. And did you think I paid half the price of the consult? Absolutely not. I was asked to purchase sedatives so I can lightly sedate him next time I bring him in. I am embarrassed I kept bringing my cat here so many times, that's on me, not wanting to describe his medical history from scratch to a new place, but damn that's it. Used their boarding facility for my pet during the holidays. We had booked for the stay when they were priced at $66 per day - looks they have increased their prices now to $76 and so we were charged this new rate. In addition they sneaked in a $13.50/day as medication administration fees. This was not told to me when I took my pet in. I felt this was a pretty sneaky thing to do. Overall the facilities are good - but billing habits are really bad. They will lose customers if this type of behaviour is carried forward. read more

I wanted to leave this review as a caution for people considering taking their pet here. The first time I took my dog for a vaccination, heart worm test and routine examination here this happened. A few hours after the vet appointment I noticed a 2 by 3 inch purple and black bruise on her chest and neck area. This was very concerning. The next day I called the vet explained the bruising and asked them what could have caused this. They explained that this happens all the time when they administer the heart worm test. "Happens all the time?" I asked. If I had known this I would not have taken my dog here. Furthermore, they did not apologize to me about the bruising. I asked for the vet to call me back later. The vet called my husband and she did not apologize either but explained that this happens regularly. I have taken many of my dogs over the years to several vets for heart worm tests and they never have gotten a bruise let alone this size. My dog is small too, around 10 pounds, and the bruise covered a good portion of her chest and neck. They even shared what the vet tech had said explaining "She was squirming too much." So is the only alternative solution just to force the test at the risk of causing pain and bruising? I brought up that they could have called me to calm her down or even notified me that she was moving to much to take the test safely and bruising might result if they continue. I even asked them why they didn't call me since they have my information? I even offered the alternative of having a follow up visit to administer the test. I asked if they were in a rush to complete the exam because there was no excuse for the lack of communication. I am upset but I also don't want anyone that is reading this to experience the shock or submit their little furry loved one to this lack of care. I paid $250 for my toy sized dog to get a tennis ball sized bruise on her neck and chest. I am not returning to this vet because when I brought up my dog's bruising from the heart worm test they said "it happens all the time". I don't trust visiting this veterinary clinic. This vet is not cheap and I have the expectation that they communicate with me if they foresee any harm that could come to my dog. read more

This is a long story, so sorry. When I was younger, before "Silicon Valley" Central Animal Hospital was both a large animal and small pet practice. I was in 4H and took my goats there, and my mother raised shepherds and took her dogs there. The practice sold, and the big barn is gone, but the service remains impeccable. My cat is 13 years old and hasn't been to a vet because he has been healthy, is inside, and is partially crazy. Hates strangers. Reacts very badly to things like flea medications. But he has been doing poorly so I called for a new patient appointment on Monday, but couldn't get in until Thursday. He seemed to be failing and I called them at 5:15 (they close at 5:30) on Wednesday and explained he had not been drinking water or peed. They immediately said he needed to be seen and would WAIT for us. We are in Willow Glen. They are in Campbell, and it was rush hour. We got there as fast as we could. They saw him. Asked good questions. I was completely freaked out and they calmly explained how we would move forward. Explained both positive and negative aspects to his examination. Gave him sub cutaneous liquid, and took blood and urine samples. And I got to bring him home while awaiting tests. I have been to vets that stretch every last dollar out of you. They don't. That alone is worth using them. For a touchy cat, he never shook during their careful treatment. Gentle and knowledgeable. I wouldn't take my animals anyplace else after this experience. Whether the final news is good or bad on my cat's diagnosis, it will be delivered with care and compassion. For a cat who hasn't been in a car since he was 8 weeks old, or a vet's office (a stressful situation) he left there calm and alert. DONT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR PETS LIFE !! We had been taking our beloved cat here for all of her Short 6 year life. After several visits with pretty much all the veterinarians in the practice. After all the visits over the years for respiratory issues, ear, nose throat issues. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, Recurrent URI's and antibiotics prescribing. Years of our cat suffering, us never getting firm answers. Them saying in November another URI give steriods/antibiotics. We felt it was long overdue time for a consult with a New Vet Practice. We gave them her 70 page Medical Record from Central Animal Hospital for review. Went to her appointment thereafter. They felt she needed an X-ray that day, and within 2 days, we were told our cat had a Giant in-operable Chest Mass. Within a week of that appointment, our cat continued suffering her issues to the point of mouth breathing. Her neck lymph nodes swelled to the size of golfballs, and the decision to euthanize her to end her suffering was sadly made. DO NOT LAY YOUR TRUST IN THE HANDS OF CENTRAL ANIMAL HOSPITAL. They always push expensive teeth cleaning when you don't need it, repeat expensive labs, and same ones . Then push antibiotics with steroids, all just to put bandaides on. Hmmm, but never did nor ordered an X-ray of her chest or neck after multiple upper respiratory complaints/symptoms and repeated treatment for them. Had they just cared enough to do their due diligence, prehaps my beautiful cat would still be alive today. My dog died a month ago yet Central Animal Hospital has sent me five reminders by email and one today by snail mail that he needs his Rabies shot, sadly reminding me that he died. I called Central Animal Hospital each time letting them know my dog died and please stop sending me reminders that my dead dog needs a shot. It's a reminder over and over that he is gone. They swore up and down they'd fix it, blamed another department three of the times and apologized. Today, the fifth time I got a reminder to give a dead dog a shot, I called Central Animal Hospital. I said, "You sent me a postcard that my dog needs a Rabies shot. Can you double check that?" The woman who answered paused a few moments and literally told me, yes, my dog definitely needs his Rabies shots. Not only that she went on and on about what else he needed! I'm serious. I gave her another chance. I said, "Are you absolutely sure?" She then said, "Oops, he's dead." I'm to the point of reporting them to the police for harassment. Is this some kind of sick joke? It's cruel. I would never recommend them. Your pet dies and they literally tell you, after a month of telling them he is dead, yes, he needs a shot. Here's the problem: what if your pet goes there to get neutered and they amputate a leg? If their computer system is that bad and if they can't take a message like a dog is dead, imagine the other mistakes they can make. read more

The staff was friendly and at first you think you're getting good attention. But the follow through is just not there... The dr was going to check the records on my dogs growths/tumors to see if they we're getting larger and never came back to discuss. I forgot to ask as my dog was stressed and wanted to go... and I wasn't thinking straight. The dr should be doing all the thinking and "checking off of boxes" for me. We never were given the results of her glands excretion, I had to ask at the front desk on the way out to speak to whomever had preformed the procedure, how the glands were. I'm also not positive that her shots were given because at Porte hospital she'd have wet spot on her arm where the shots were given, like her arm had been wiped with an alcohol swab before she was given the shot. Here, her arm had no evidence of the shot. Just felt rushed. After dr was done, we should have gotten a report and confirmation and closure. We were handed our dog back and of course since she's stressed you just want to leave, and you're not thinking about everything you should be. read more

Been going to this vet for annual vaccinations and haircuts for my cat. Service and everything was fine until I found a lump on my cat and had to bring her in to get it looked at. The vet himself was very kind and knowledgeable but the customer service reps at front desk seemed disorganized. I got my estimate for surgery a couple days later than was expected and it had a couple errors that I had to point out to them. Also some miscommunication between vet and front desk because the vet told us we had the appointment for surgery scheduled in a week but when we showed up for said appointment, we weren't on schedule and nothing was available for a couple more weeks. Normally, I wouldn't really mind something like this but my cat has a cancerous mass in her so losing time due to mistakes like this is unacceptable right now. read more

We have been taking our two dogs here since moving to the area and have yet to be disappointed. The staff is absolutely amazing with both dogs, especially my senior one. Our younger one absolutely loves going to see his "friends" at the clinic! Our older dog is sixteen and has frequent visits due to his age. Every time I take him in, I feel extremely heard by the staff, while also never feeling pressure to do anything I'm uncomfortable with. The staff always seem to remember both our dogs, which is a comforting thing. They're also extremely knowledgeable with any question/concern I have. I cannot recommend this clinic enough. read more

I've been taking my pets to Central for over 20 years. Always have had great service. The vets have been very good at answering my questions. Recently my 9 year old little dog Olive was diagnosed with arthritis and of course had to get on some meds for pain and inflammation. Of course I had about 100 questions about what to give her on top of what was prescribed. Sarah one of the front desk girls was absolutely amazing at answering my questions and the ones she wasn't sure about was super quick at asking the vets my questions and getting me answers. She went out of her way in researching some natural remedies such a glucosamine/omega3 in liquid form to give her as well. Bottom line she rocks! Super friendly, had the patience of a saint and just all around a joy to interact with. When your babies have health issues and we all have a million questions, Its so nice to interact with someone who is friendly and goes out of their way to accommodate your questions and needs. I've actually never had a bad interaction with any of the front desk girls. They all are wonderful. Lindsey as well. She has had to deal with me calling quite a few times over the last couple of days and is always friendly, patient and accommodating as well... Second update: after 8 days we finally will get the SubQ fluids? And he wants to meet with me (what about our cat?). His only concern (he left it in v/m) is why I'm upset with him and CAH. Are you kidding g me?!? It has been crystal clear what our concerns have been and how "life or death" it is to our cat that he gets food and fluids into our cat and all we get is zero support for ensuring our cat gets the help he needs. I'm not sure what the best definitions of arrogance, incompetence, greed and medical neglect and malpractice are. But if the mantra is "do no harm".... Obviously we have since gone elsewhere.... ------ Update: avoid CAH like the plague. I've had some bad vets over 40+ years and all I can do is to raise RED FLAGS when it comes to this kind of arrogance, indifference and lack of urgency or compassion. The suffering of my animal was fully avoidable if they cared to listen and act in my legitimate concerns and the face in the ground. Telephone tag is as good as it gets. Unfortunately I've had two days of being in/out of cell phone service. So this is in me... Dr Stone did try to keep calling me. But he should have just ACTED and provided the tools for in home care that we can provide if he wasn't so focused on what he wanted to accomplish. But the bottom line is if ANY of the three vets truly listened and acted on our concerns then our cat would have gotten the care he needs starting with our first visit one week ago!!! If I could give Central Animal Hospital a "-5 Stars" I would! ------------ Initial review - mostly positive with first vet... yet not fully satisfied with the doctor not allowing us to get all of the potential medical offerings to help our cat the first 24 hours at home. Felt "upsold" 24+ hours later via a phone call from second doctor to get tests that may or may not be needed. And not getting the at home treatment options that will help immediately from this doctor either. (Note this second doctor had not seen our animal) Ok, so sucked that up. Was told to call to make sure the meds (the second doctor did want to give us) were ready when I came in as they may not be ready in two hours. Called four (not two) hours later and was told that they were closing up (in an hour) and the meds would not be ready! What?!? I'm having SERIOUS reservations about this place and should have stuck with the previous vet. We couldn't get into Porte and were told to go to CAH, their "sister site." Argh! The worst part is that we know how to take care of our animals and care that will help our cat and will not hurt our cat. And "at home supplies" to do just this are not being authorized by the first vet yesterday nor the second vet today. This is very frustrating as we want our cat to get the help he needs now and I personally am tired of Vets that want a blood panel run, then another, then another. This is one of her oldest scams in the Vet industry. I'll update this review if these people get better. Until then I recommend people attempt to find a better vet that listens to the pet owners and truly cares to improve the animals in their care in "REAL TIME!" And not seek to run up the bills in a "drip, drip, drip" fashion. We've been down that road before and it hurts our animals and our pocket books. Want to echo what most others have said: doctors are great, they are kind, helpful, professional, etc. Have not had a vet here that didn't provide a good experience and there are a few of them. The techs I have found to mostly be good too. Front desk by contrast is lacking. They are in this weird state of constant confusion, they often don't seem to know what is going on, they struggle with phone calls (calling here can be painful!) and pet insurance seems like a foreign concept to them. This is a hard review for me to write. Mainly because I have been going to this vet clinic for years and years... (I think the first time I went to them was about 1996 or so for shots for my two new (at the time) kittens. We took a stray little kitten that had been thrown away by some idiot who lived in the next building over from us, and they saved his life, he was that sick when we found him, it was life or death. We've taken our current cat family (2 boys and 2 girls) here for spaying, neutering and just about everything else. The doctors here are TOP NOTCH, I cannot stress that enough, the doctors themselves are really on the ball. I've referred people to them, talked them up for saving the strays' life and never regretted a dime we've spent there. BUT when one of our cats recently had to have emergency surgery, we were treated very roughly and unprofessionally by the front office staff, and our family member came back to us completely matted and the mats on his back legs were urine-stanky from a leak in the catheter. They had clearly taken no time to assist him with calming down or comfort grooming. He's got a lot of long fur and three coats so a day of stress-free home life does not go by with a little brushing cause of potential mats, in a situation where he is freaked out, doped up, in pain, and clearly not inclined to clean (not to mention they had an e-collar on him and he couldn't reach his back legs to groom even if he'd felt like it) he's gonna need a little brushing, not only does it save him the pain of mats pulling his skin, but he loves it and it would have gone a long way to calming him down, not to mention he automatically loves and trusts anyone who brushes him. When we brought him home he smelled of pee, and there were not two inches of him that didn't have giant, hard chunks of matted fur. Although I would like to note that they did let me leave a tee that "smells like mommy" for him to soothe on, the tee came back fresh as a daisy with no pee smell and folded up exactly like I'd given to them... almost like they didn't give it to him at all! (there's some sarcasm there) They also could not figure out how to get his collar off or something, cause it came back looking like they'd ripped it off at the safety elastic (fyi, when you have a big mellow cat and you can slip your entire hand between him and his collar... try just slipping it over his head. he's never lost it, it was on that loose for a reason.) Plus it took them 20 minutes to find what was left of his collar and when they finally brought it to me, broken, the bell was missing... (?!? I mean it's a 1$ bell who cares, but, what happened there? are they selling second hand cat bells out the back of the clinic?) The dosing info I was given was wrong, she told me one thing then told me something else, and when I called later cause I was confused they corrected it, and the front desk told me to bring him in for stitch removal in 10 to 14 days. They STRESSED that, they wrote it on his discharge papers. When the doctor called to check up on him, she said "No its all internal he doesn't have to come back at all!" Then they treated me like I was planning on stiffing them because (since it was emergency surgery) I didn't have the money right then and needed to be billed. I have been going to this vet for YEARS and have ALWAYS paid my bill. ALWAYS. I resent being treated like I am trying to stiff them. Then after setting up a payment schedule they tried to run the charge 10 days earlier than we agreed on! I'm not even going to discuss the high pressure prescription food scares-pitch which we bought him and he refused to eat and when I went to research alternatives found that the Rx food had an IDENTICAL ingredient list to what he'd already been eating. (we did manage to find him something that had a more legitimate claim on helping his issue that he will eat, so he's okay now, but it was tense few days hoping it was low appetite cause of the meds and worrying he was gonna starve) also they said he bit someone so we had to have a visit from animal control to make sure he wasn't vicious. If you know anything about Maine Coons I'm sure your first thought on hearing this was "What did they do to your cat?", well not only was that my first thought, but it was also the first thing the Animal control officers both said to me on seeing him. Maine Coons are not known for their offensive prowess... they are big, dopey, sweet, cowardly wusses. And ours has a case of ragdoll reflex to boot. I mean I am not one of those people who think their pets can do no wrong, if this had been our other boy cat and they told me he'd bitten someone i'd have been all "Yah sorry about that, he's kind of an a**hole". But this cat just isn't a fighter... he's a hider, and a cuddler. So this makes me think that someone there did something either stupid or excessively mean to him. read more

I was very dissatisfied with the service/communication on testing timelines here. I took my cat in for a lump on her shoulder and paid $550 for an exam/extraction and biopsy which I was told by 2 different staff that results would be in 2-3 days. After 4 business days I called for an update and was then told 3-5 business days for results. Not what they had told me previously. The staff should have called me or emailed me to to let me know test results are taking longer than they promised me. It has been 6 business days now with zero contact from then and I feel like I was scammed to only get no test results or sense of empathy for taking much longer than promised. Waiting for cancer biopsy test results for my fur baby is torture and everyday my heart breaks more not knowing how much time she might have left. Very painful and wish I had not done the biopsy only to be ignored or told incorrectly several times how long these things take. Would not come again. read more

If I could make my rating higher, I would. We LOVE Central!! Dr. Scott is the absolutely the best veterinarian around. I trust him and his team more than any animal hospital I've ever been to. We took my doggie Charley in recently for a dental cleaning, which turned into having 11 teeth pulled. My husband and I knew going in that there were going to be some extractions, but we didn't expect 11. I was crying and so nervous that something super bad would happen (I do that. I worry, and then cry about it). Dr Scott called me the MOMENT it was over and gave me a very detailed review of what happened, how Char was doing and what to expect once I took him home. I was asking all sorts of questions I could have asked the tech's, he answered every single question with not even an OUNCE of rush. A week after the surgery we brought Char back for his bath and trim. All the girls there are SO NICE. I've also never met a more caring team in my life. They get excited when I bring Char, too. Now, they might get excited every time a dog walks in the room, but they make it feel so personal that I can't help but just adore all the techs! I've mentioned this too, but my dog hates people. Hates. Them. Will bite them- doesn't care. Get this: GETS EXCITED TO COME TO CENTRAL. can't wait. Mind you, has had 11 teeth pulled from them. He also doesn't bite these girls. At all. Ever. (Ok... maybe once) Just today I had bring both my Cat, Thomas and Char to board them for the day. Dr Scott called me and left me a 1:20 voice mail about Thomas. Gave me a FULL rundown. Thomas got all his shots and a full exam. Also- this is great- they didn't charge me for first time visit with Thomas OR the boarding because it was his first time. It would have been pricy (for me) had we had to pay for all of it, but they are so amazing that they just comped the charges. Amazing. -also, the teeth extraction charge was NOT as bad as I had expected. They do not over charge you! I love this place so much. I feel so comfortable knowing my animals are happy, that they are taking really good care of them (BECAUSE they care!), and I'm not getting ripped off financially. Our cat was in pain so we booked a same day appointment for 4:30. Arrived with our poor cat and they canceled our appointment (we're certain they were meant to cancel someone elses claiming a different time) and filled it with someone else and basically told us tough luck. Kept claiming we canceled when we didn't, and we wouldnt because our cat is in pain and we drove to the other side of town with him. I get stuff happens, people aren't perfect, and that they get busy and fill up spots, but they not only messed up and blamed US, but didn't have any empathy about the situation and were very "oh well" about it. Our experience at Central Animal Hospital has been more than I could have expected. After going to Tri City Animal Hospital in Fremont there is a night and day difference in the level of care and compassion each employee has for animal here! I will disclose that CAH is not the cheapest and if that's honestly what you are looking for in pet care this is not the animal hospital for you, but you do get what you pay for here. My dog has a collapsed trachea and I never have to remind them not to put the vet leash around her body instead of neck (which was not the case at the understaffed Tri City Vet). Each employee has a genuine care for the dogs. So much so that when we boarded her for vacation they were sad to see her go! They always try to squeeze you in as early as possible if it is urgent, and when my dog had pancreatitis for the second time they recommended out patient treatment first over inpatient which is less expensive. We have been a customer of Central Animal Hospital for many years and we've liked the different doctors and receive generally good care for our pets, but ever since the pandemic they refuse to let customers inside with their pets. It is not practical or customer service friendly to speak to a doctor on the phone about your pet's problem. We don't get proper communication with the vet or the technicians that come to meet us at the car. Even if we're fully vaccinated they still refuse to let us inside. Because of this we are unfortunately looking for a new vet. read more

We have been taking our pets here for the past 15 years and have been happy with our vet Dr. Hedden. We still are, though the front office and vet techs seem to be clueless. Brought our cat in, the receptionist said they have never seen him before?? Odd we adopted him from them, he's been going there for 10 years, yet she insisted they have never seen him before. I gave some push back and guess what, she found the records. She smiled and said oh yes, we saw him six months ago. Well no kidding, yet she treated me like I was lying. We got his work done, and our other two cats. My wife picked them up and paid for everything. They want a stool sample, I brought it in and was charged. We had already pre paid for the test. Got some push back even though I had proof. Said they would refund the card, instead, she charged me again, so we paid for the same test 3 times. We got a call from a vet tech telling us the results from the test and couldn't tell me which cat the results were for. Ask her to have the vet call me back since it was clear she had no idea what she was talking about. She said they could do another test for 200 bucks, I asked for which cat, her answer, well one of them While we are happy with the Vet services the staff( two for sure) lack customer service skills, basic office knowledge ( like looking up records) making calls with no idea what they are talking about. I like Dr. Hedden but the clinic practices can be really frustrating, particularly not doing all of the annual physical stuff at the annual physical. I feel like I really have to stay on top of them, keep my own checklist, and make sure I explicitly make sure everything is being done such as all vaccines, bloodwork, etc. They will send reminders for the fecal sample and exam every single time you come in, so don't get fooled and bring a stool sample every time, because they only want to run the test once a year but they will absolutely run the test & charge you for it every time you come in if you bring a stool sample. For the annual physical my dogs are both on a prescription diet and they should get annual bloodwork but they just didn't do it and then emailed me 2 days later asking me to bring one in for bloodwork, and had no answer to why they didn't do it during his annual physical. Same for several annual shots for my other dog. It's so frustrating to make sure you are getting everything you need in the annual exam, and it's both inefficient for me but it's also inefficient for the clinic. Particularly at a time when it's so hard to get an appointment - everyone is booked a week out if you're lucky, and months out if you aren't. Consolidating appointments and doing all the necessary care at once is beneficial both for me, for my pet, and for the other pet owners out there who would have access to more available appointments if it didn't take multiple appointments to get the care that should have been provided in one annual physical. This happened last year and I thought my feedback had been taken and it would be better this year, but it wasn't and it's just frustrating. I continue to go to the clinic because of their experience and the PT care they offer, etc, but honestly the front desk practices need a major revamp. read more

We have been taking my dad's dog here for a few years now. I was mostly happy with the service we got. Even took my step-sister's cat when she was out of town for a cortisone shot and they were great at accommodating us. I have no idea what happened. I went last week and will not be going back. It was so dirty and gross. They did not clean the exam table between pets. There was a cage in the waiting room that used to house a cat and it had old cat poop in it. They wanted 600 for a teeth cleaning and an additional 600 for any extractions and blood work. I have been calling around an most places charge less than 1/2 that amount. If they can't bother to clean the place how clean is the surgery. Time to find a new vet. read more

I've been taking my pets here for years and I've never once been disappointed in the quality of professional and friendly service that I've gotten here. Before I go on, if you have any unused medication that was brought here, don't throw it away. They do take back unused products to donate to less fortunate people who can't afford to pay for medication/supplies for their pets. I did that today with some unused medical supplies and medication that I got shortly before my cat Felix died. I donated over $200.00 worth of medical supplies to them today. Here is what I donated: -One bottle of Epakitin 50gm. -2 bottles of Cyprohepthadine 4mg. -10 Hypodermic needles -1 1000 ml. of a SubQ fluid bag already hooked up and ready to use (I forgot to bring some Clavamax, 15mg. ) which is an antibiotic from when my cat Snowball was brought in over a week ago but will donate that soon too. He had overgrown nails and they cut close to the skin so he bleed. Since giving him the medication was impossible, he got a shot instead. Anyways, if you or anyone you know needs medical assistance, don't hesitate to ask them if they have what your pet needs. I sure hope that my good karma comes back to me eventually. I'd also like to say that they are very caring. They sent me a card that I got today in regards to my now deceased cat Felix that each person there signed. It was really sweet and kind of them to do so. I went there today to pick up her ashes. She died a few weeks ago and I thought I'd have to wait three weeks to get her ashes back, but being the quick and efficient professionals they are, I got the urn with her ashes in it today. Now what remains of Felix is above one of her favorite spots, the fireplace. Needless to say, today sucked and I broke down and cried again after weeks of doing so on and off. It actually came in yesterday but I couldn't pick it up then. They asked if I was OK and seemed genuinely sorry and didn't make me feel like just another client. They care for others pets like their own. They do it all here from grooming to pet care and boarding. I'm so glad that I found this place by accident when I first moved to the area. They are the best there is in the area as far as I know. read more

I adopted a kitten and brought her here to have shots and a check up etc. because it was close to where I live. What I ended up with was a very unhappy kitten. About two weeks after I had her seen here, she developed a wound between her shoulder blades that just kept getting bigger and bigger. I called the vet and a tech suggested that I cut up a sock and put it on her as a shirt to help protect her skin. She ended up just writhing in pain on the floor within a day of doing this so I took her back in and asked them what to do. The vet tech PULLED the sock off of her which pulled the ENTIRE scab off her wound! The vet tech should have gotten the sock wet before attempting to remove it. When the tech came out and told me what she did I demaded my kitten back and I refused to pay for the pain and suffering the tech just inflicted on my poor tiny kitten. After I was accused by the vet tech of putting on too strong of a topical flea solution I told them they can take my file and my family's file and throw it away because I wouldn't be coming back here. The front desk staff seems like they could care less and their vet techs don't seem too well educated or forethinking. Would you really pull something stuck to a wound off without getting it wet first? really? For the record I had not put flea meds on my kitten, I know better than that. I took her to see my regular vet (Dr. Hoge) - she was diagnosed with mass cell skin cancer and had to go through 2 revision surgeries just to close this wound and she ended up on artifical hormones for two years and had to have her back feet declawed all so she'd leave her skin alone. I felt had I kept her at this vet that she probably wouldn't have lived through the ordeal based on the previous treatment she'd received here. Pet owners beware. read more

My family has been bringing our pets here since the mid 90's. We had a border collie and Central was his vet for the duration of his life. I now have a young, healthy chocolate lab, and have been taking him here since he was a pup. The professionalism has been in a sharp decline over the past year. Every time I call regarding a simple issue with my dog, they are unwilling to help unless I pay for three or four additional services that aren't related. When I ask for an explanation regarding why I need $150 of additional tests, I'm not given an explanation. For example: Me- I want to get a blood draw for heart worm. Ok, Central can do that, but Central also needs you to get your dog a physical exam. Well why do I need a physical exam, if the blood draw tells you whether or not the dog has heart worms? Oh well Central doesn't write prescriptions without a physical exam. Ok, so what's done during the exam. We listen to your dogs heart and give him a head to toe assessment. Ok so by listening to his heart you can tell if he has heart worms? No the blood test tells that. So why do I need the physical exam? It's our policy. This no longer feels like a vet that is trying to help animals, but more like a greedy business trying to bilk it's customers out of money. If my dog is 100% healthy, I don't see the need for $100's in additional, unnecessary testing. Being in the medical field myself, I know BS medical terminology and when I'm being fed a line vs when I'm actually being given medical rationalization. Central won't be receiving any more of my business. read more

If you're really into throwing money away, then this is the vet for you! They have, by far, some of the priciest vet services in the San Jose area. We brought our cat in for an exam and quote for dental cleaning and extraction and their estimate came in $500 more than the next highest. I've worked with Dr. Hedden over the past two years to bring my 15-year-old cat, Alana, who was crippled by arthritis, from a place where she was virtually immobile to regaining so many of her original, favorite activities: going up and down stairs to our second floor, jumping into our bed to cuddle with us at night, climbing to the top tier of a four-foot kitty condo. Cold laser treatments, Adequan injections, range of motion and strengthening physical therapy (I do some of this at home) and a regimented weight loss program brought Alana from more than 16 pounds down to 13 (on her way to a target weight of 12 pounds) and basically given her fresh life. This was difficult and time-consuming work--no quick fixes or magic prescriptions here--but I'm grateful to Doctor and staff for the warmth and personal attention they've provided. Daniel and Kira are wonderful, caring vet techs. While the front desk sometimes needs to add and train new personnel--like any business--I've found Cassandra, Angelica and others responsive and flexible. Five full stars. read more
