They booked us on a $100 reservation fee that we were told was forfeit if we were more than 10 minutes late. The most awkward and drawn out dinner I've ever had. Came in for an early dinner (around 5:30pm) and got a seat for a table of 3. Was not busy at all. Server to customer ratio wasn't bad and completely manageable. After 15 minutes of just sitting, ordered food (apps and entrees). Server was holding a bunch of Christmas ornaments. Didn't write anything down. She turned away, remembered to ask if we wanted water. After 20 minutes got the appetizers. We were sitting with the apps for 40 minutes. Food tasted amazing. We ordered crab cakes, bruschetta, and hummus. Ate it for a while. Waited so long we went through pictures of our childhood, talked about the weather, and pretty much everything one could talk about. Long enough for a friend to come down and join us for eating the apps. It was around 6:50 now, and we knew we weren't going to be able to see the Snowflake lane parade like we intended to. Did not think we were going to be there that long. Time passed by. Slowly. Watched all the parade floats come back. Finally got our food. Here's the weird part. One server, a male with brunette hair was there. Apologized for the "miscommunication with the order." We asked if they forgot? We were totally patient and understanding, just flat out hangry at this point. He said they did forget. That's ok, my family usually comes here a lot, but it was me and my sister's first time so we were totally patient. Waited, but then the blonde server came back. She was the one who forgot (as she didn't write the order down earlier). And we tried to make conversation and it was just AWKARD. BIZARRE. SO UNCOMFORTABLE. She never apologized for forgetting the order and instead of apologizing, she just further worsened the situation with this awkwardness. We finally got our yummy food after a long time. Everything was so crispy and crunch. The crab cakes are so good. The basil pasta with vegetarian meat was honestly pretty. I've dined here twice now - for lunch and for happy hour. It's off the beaten path of Bellevue way but in the center of Bellevue Collection, at the bottom of one of the buildings. The decor is really cute, and the menu is quite large. I loved the halibut fish tacos and brussel sprouts. The happy hour margarita was good as well. We decided to brunch today and found this spot via Yelp! We were in the area and didn't need to make a reservation - luckily we were able to do a walk in. There were only 2 other tables at the time. I've been to this place several times when coming to visit my sister in Redmond. She and her girls meet here often. I always find it to be just fine, not outstanding but good with friendly servers who always let us hang out as long as we like. We met for brunch, so I got the breakfast tostada, which was good. I had asked for it without pico (I don't like onions), and there's obvi pico on it. Plus, the potatoes had onions, too. But the waitress had them remake it all for me without onions. Beyond that, this time, I tried the French toast that was highly recommended by my sister's friend who said "It hits all the right notes." She was so right!!! Wow, why did I wait so long to check this place out? I absolutely love everything about it! I was in Bellevue with a couple of friends looking for happy hour, and Central Bar was in my Yelp bookmarks so we decided to check it out. I had a little bit of trouble finding it (after parking in the far depths of the garage), but once I arrived I was greeted and seated quickly. The service was so quick I had my first drink before my friends even arrived 5 minutes later! We arrived just in time for happy hour, and ordered a couple of appies. I was drinking beer (yay for Mac & Jack's being on tap, always a fave) and my friends enjoyed their cocktails. Our server was super friendly and on top of things, checking in on us regularly and always ready to bring the next drink or appy. The ambiance is amazing, too. While I have no complaints for the French toast, I did feel that the name of the chicken and waffle sliders was a bit misleading - we were expecting chicken and waffle pieces to be sandwiched in slider buns. It's the usual stuff: steak salads, some chicken entre, a big hummus side if you're "adventurous" and plenty of booze to wash it down with. There's nothing distinctive to anything you'll eat here but it's fresh, plated nicely and prepared well. And not too expensive either. There's plenty of booze here to wash everything down. I haven't really tried their cocktails but I don't get the sense that this is mixologist kind of place. The interior is kind of like the food. It's got an old boy's club vibe but doesn't carry it all the way so the space feels less cozy than it should. I don't know if that's purely because of the space itself or the fact that the patrons are almost always Bellevue Usuals. I would recommend this place for meeting people for work or maybe a client - but not a particularly special client. read more

I have had the opportunity to try all three menus at Central: brunch, lunch, and dinner. Not once have I been disappointed, and not once have I seen this place empty; a testament to the ambiance, friendly service, and great food. This time, I had the pork chop for dinner: succulent, cooked to perfection, and paired wonderfully with the mashed potatoes. The prosciutto wrapped scallops were deliciously rich (do not be fooled by the portion size, they will fill you up) and the teriyaki glazed brussels sprouts, while maybe a little too sweet for some, went well with my smoky, earthy cocktail. I really wanted to like this place. But I couldn't. We sat at the bar on a Friday at about 6pm. There were at least three bartenders and they were humping. The problem was, they could have used at least four bartenders. The service was very slow, but again, not their fault. They were moving a million-miles-an-hour. Steak sandwich and salad, $24. Not good. I could have had a better sandwich from that yellow and red coffee shop chain that dots the country. The salad portion, which was a $2 upcharge should have embarrassed the server. Lightly dressed, a few cucumber pieces scattered around, two cherry tomatoes, and a half dozen croutons. Pair that with a jigger-pour old fashioned for $17 and a jigger-pour malibu rum and diet coke $14 and you have a $69 dollar below average, over-priced drinks, disappointing happy hour. Make your drink prices more reasonable, and I would have sat there for a while longer (sans food), but my wife and I were a one and done. I really wanted to like this place. read more
