It's been a few weeks and my husband and I are still talking about this place. This is easily the best service we have ever had at a restaurant. Wow. The entire team works so flawlessly together. The food. We started with the bread service which was $12. Honestly, Id pass on this. Its nothing special. Second was the roasted bone marrow - Again, pass. At $28 there wasn't much marrow. I mean, it was good, don't get me wrong! But I wouldn't order it again. Ahi Tartare - Very good dish with a lot of flavor! My Ribeye was incredible! My husband got the same thing and he too was over the moon. We ended with the Bananas Foster. Any time a place makes Bananas Foster tableside, you know its going to be amazing, and this was! It's fun to watch them prepare it, and even more fun to enjoy it. We will definitely be back. We are eyeing a few different apps and that Wagyu Beef "Long bone" Rib Eye for two for next time! Hmm what can I say. I've been a fan of John Howie since the longest time. We always take out of town guests and family to John Howie. This last dinner we had was very disappointing and surprisingly so unlike John Howie it used to be. We went for our anniversary/birthday and we brought an out of town guest with us. We ordered: Ceasar salad A bottle of Big Farm Wine Tartare Brussel sprouts Lobster mashed potato 2 order ribeye cap Long bone ribeye 2 filet mignon Few things: Our server didn't even ask oh, are we celebrating anything today, like any other restaurant Secondly, we asked for medium rare to close to medium. Our Long bone came out well done. The manager was about to serve that to us. Until we said, um...that's not medium rare or medium. You worked at steakhouse, and you should know what medium rare look like. The rest of the steaks were more medium than medium rare, but we were hungry already. With the leftover, the server put in on the floor?? It's food, the carpet is dirty and they've stepped on by many ppl from wherever they came from. We moved it to the table, and they moved it again to the floor. That drove all of us crazy. Other side notes: We noticed, they don't clean up the crumbs etc in between from the table anymore. And we saw when they cleaned up other tables, they just sweeped them to the floor, we saw old napkins on the floor when new guests arrived. We do not expect these from John Howie Steakhouse, and especially when you paid $1000 in one sitting. Btw, we told the manager about not putting leftover food on the floor. Our server chased us on the way out and asked if she did something wrong. She was surprised that the leftover food is not supposed to be on the ground. My husband and my favorite steakhouse in the area! We got the meatball appetizer which our waiter said is a new menu item as of 2 weeks ago. It was delicious! A fancy deconstructed meatball sub, what's not to love? My husband got the ribeye and I got the filet mignon. Filet mignon was a bit smokier in flavor, probably bc it's a smaller cut. I enjoyed the ribeye a little more. I tried the baked potato this time and it was fine but I wouldn't order it again. I wanted a pretty classic loaded baked potato and this was a different version. (I believe they mashed up the potato with all the toppings and then put it back in) The mashed potato was delicious as always. I love the little salt tower trio they provide with the meal! Today was a perfect 5 star experience at John Howie! Seating was very easy during happy hour in the bar seating area. Lisa was one of the best waitress we've ever had at any restaurant. She has the perfect energy level, attentiveness and demeanor that makes you comfortable and feel well taken care of. The lighting in the restaurant is slightly dark so be ready for that. This was my favorite steakhouse in WA however quality, service, selections have gone down. I come here for special occasions but I also order take out and I have to say every time I order take out it's a shit show. I've spoken to the manager about this... how hostesses don't know the menu, missing items, being placed on hold for every little question. Busy Saturday night. Came at the recommendation of a friend who is local to Seattle, Bellevue area. We were seated promptly and the service was great. We started with cocktails and bread service. Intimate atmosphere despite being busy in all dining rooms. The menu options were very good for all taste preferences. I went with the American Wagyu Ribeye. Medium (Medium Rare) at other places. My friend and I visited on a Monday around 5:30 p.m. We were seated at the bar since all the tables were already taken. I definitely recommend arriving early or making a reservation, as the entire space was full within the next 30 mins! We originally came for the Happy Hour (3-6 p.m.), but we ended up opting for the three-course meal, which was a fantastic decision. We did grab a red wine and a Manhattan from the Happy Hour menu, and both were great with our food. For our first course, we ordered the French Onion Soup and Caesar Salad. The French Onion Soup was comforting and perfect for the weather, though we agreed it was nothing particularly special. The Caesar Salad was solid; we especially liked the parmesan cheese and crunchy croutons. The second course was the standout: the steak. It was cooked perfectly and paired excellently with the creamy mashed potatoes. The asparagus was also cooked well, bringing the whole plate together beautifully. Our favorite course was dessert! The crème brûlée and chocolate cake were the perfect way to wrap up the meal. The staff were patient and checked in on us multiple times throughout the evening. The restaurant itself is very clean. It's located on the second floor at The Bravern; you'll need to go through the main entrance to get to it. Note they do already take an automatic service charge. One of my favorite dining experiences in Bellevue. While the steaks at Daniel's Broiler feel like ones I could make myself from a local grocery store, the steaks here feel like ones you really need to go outside for. Amazing temperature, and cooked perfectly. Besides the steak, the wedge salad was the best I've ever had. Yes it's doused in sauce and has cured bacon pieces in it, so it's not healthy by any standard, but it was very tasty and I was very glad I ordered it. The dessert for me was way too heavy, but I imagine if I were 20 lbs heavier I'd enjoy it more. The bartender was very funny and also very welcoming. He made my experience way better than I originally expected it to be. There were also some regulars that came in and were entertaining to listen to. This place does come at a premium though, it is very very expensive, and maybe due to just it being one of the top restaurants in the Bellevue area. read more

Went here to try out their restaurant week special and it was beginning to end a great experience. We also added the bone marrow a la carte. It's roasted well and bursting with flavor. I would definitely order this again. The wedge salad I don't think is on the regular menu however came with thick cured pieces of bacon and nice dressing. We shared one wagyu sirloin and one filet mignon. Both were cooked perfection to medium rare and rare. Incredibly tender with enough of the quality that you don't need to dip it in much extra sauce. The mashed potatoes were our least favorite with less flavor. The service was overall attentive however they did forget a couple things like our sparkling water and our crème brûlée dessert took longer than expected. We had to remind them we were still waiting. The crème brûlée was a tad too soft and not fully set. The waiter gave us the sparkling water On the house as an apology which was nice to keep up with the par of this place. We had a dinner reservation for a party of three at 4 PM on a Monday. We ordered two appetizers from the Happy Hour menu, followed by steak and other dishes from the dinner menu. All were very delicious. The atmosphere was pleasant, and our server was friendly and helpful. That evening, after returning home, I experienced major stomach discomfort and symptoms that lasted through the night and into the next day. However, my friends were fine, so we suspected it might have been due to my medium-rare filet mignon being too undercooked for my stomach, while they had theirs medium. That said, I usually order my steak medium-rare without issue. Notably, a 20% service charge was automatically added, and the staff advised that no additional tip was necessary. One of my colleagues had a friend who recommended this spot- it was a little hard to find for our cab driver, and so I'd recommend getting dropped off by the Prada store loop and taking the escalator up. When you walk in, you can see they have a Whiskey bar separate from the restaurant, which was tempting but we focused on our work meal. Started with a pear kamikaze drink, and ordered their bread service. All kinds of options, something for everyone! Brian, our server, was super helpful, friendly, professional. The people there pride themselves on killer food, but also killer service. My water was never less than half full. My colleagues went with the tuna tartare, and the shrimp with habanero sauce. I opted for the lobster bisque. Never had such large chunks of lobster in any place I've been to, so it was so pleasing. Delicious and rich, this was hard not to ask for another bowl. I ordered the filet, larger size and got peppercorn style. Normally I do not eat a ton of meat and have leftovers but this was executed perfectly. My colleagues both ordered the glacier- 4 oz of prime, and 4 oz of American Wagyu. We had a side of the beef tallow fries, with Parmesan and truffle aioli. Talk about addictive. I literally had to turn the bowl away from my reach so I wouldn't eat any more. The table next to us got the table side bananas foster for dessert- looked great but I was stuffed. The other table got the table side Ceasar, which also is one of my favorites but you need two for an order. I spent 20 years in Chicago and this was one of the best cooked and executed meals I've ever had. It may be worth flying here from GA just to eat and look at the view (can see Mt Ranier) from our dining area. Came here with coworkers for an end-of-year celebration. Everything we had was amazing. But first... parking. Yes a little confusing, but they have detailed instructions on their website. FWIW, we drove around until we found the amethyst elevators. Amethyst is purple BTW. Those took us straight to the restaurant. Restaurant validates. We stuck with the First Seating menu and everything was well done (meaning done very well vs. hard meat). Very fancy spot so we felt better dressed up but I don't think its completely necessary. Since its fancy, the portions aren't huge. They definitely go for quality vs. quantity just to set expectations here. The presentation was well done though and each element brought something to the meal. They have an extensive wine list and I believe a full bar (although we stuck with wine at our table). Maybe next time I'll explore some of their whiskies. Overall we had a fantastic time over wine and a good meal. Excellent upscale spot for a celebratory meal or fine dining night out. read more

At the time of this review (post covid), it's been difficult to find supreme steakhouses with no-frills options. Up front - why not 5-star? Because of the tipping policy. I had a small problem with my order that did not get addressed. Great service but nobody cared about the problem with my order. The steak was fantastic. No issues there. But the side dish had a serious problem (was not edible). I love John Howie's stuff - probably one of the best seafood restaurants in the country (SeaStar), but this experience had problems. It was a major flaws with execution on the wait staff. Like "why didn't you eat this"? Nobody cared. And I was forced to pay 20% gratuity on a $250 check. read more

If you deign to order a steak to split, they'll try to embarrass you by putting a tiny cut on a huge empty white plate. You will spend more here than Del Frisco/Ruths/Capital. Went with a few friends, using 2 $50 gift cards that I got from Costco for $79.99, and a $20 off your first time at John Howie (text from their website). 4 HH dishes came out to $100. 20% service charge automatically added to each bill. Awful experience! Ordered something and 5 min before the meal was to arrive with a group of 6 the waiter says that a part of my meal is 86. He gave no options or a choice to change. For most people, John Howie Steak is more of a special occasion type of place. We are no different. For a celebration, we popped in and basically ordered without paying attention to prices. It actually wasn't that bad; the prices are comparable to the other steak houses we've visited. One thing to note is that 20% service charge is added to every check. Our service was attentive, par to many of the other high-end places. Because we went on a quiet weekday without the roar of a business group of dinners nearby (why do they always go to steak houses?), our service was extra attentive. White Chocolate Coconut Cream Pie, $15 - 4.5 Stars Menu: Chef John Howie's famous recipe Chef John vs Chef Tom - who do we like better? I honestly can't tell. They are both dramatic in presentation and flavorful. This one is a gorgeous snowy mountain. Flourless Semisweet Chocolate Volcano Cake, $14 - 4.5 Stars Menu: Warm caramel, dark chocolate ganache, vanilla creme, shaved white chocolate I was so full by now, but this was free with celebration. Had a business dinner here on May 28. 5 stars all the way. Our server was a dream. Wonderful attitude, knowledgeable, kind and funny. A couple people ordered apps and sides for the table. I had a little bit of mashed potatoes, fried Brussel sprouts, and a deviled egg. I had a wedge salad which was really good. I ordered the Australian wagyu ribeye which was perfect. The only thing I didn't like was a mocktail with lime that was super tart. The amuse bouche was a bright way to start. The complimentary strawberry pie bite at the end was refreshing. I took a coconut pie to go and it was pure heaven. The table also had crab cakes, oysters, broccoli and bread. 5 others had steaks, 1 had salmon and 1 had halibut. Everyone raved about the food for days. Setting reservations online was easy. If you self-park, they validate for you. Extensive wine and whiskey list. Halal steak is available. I had an upset stomach and emailed the restaurant the next day in case there was an issue. No one else had any problems so I updated the restaurant. I was in Seattle on business last Friday and decided to check out John Howie Steak in Bellevue -- easily one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Our server Eric was incredible. Super friendly, professional, and just one of those people who makes you instantly feel comfortable. He clearly knows his stuff -- great food and wine recommendations, perfect pacing, and that calm confidence that makes the whole experience feel effortless. We started with cocktails (my Manhattan was perfectly balanced) and the bread service -- definitely worth it. I had the filet and my colleague went for the Wagyu ribeye, both cooked perfectly. We added truffle fries and creamed spinach, which were ridiculously good. Eric really made the night though -- attentive without hovering and genuinely warm. You can tell he loves what he does and takes pride in giving guests a great experience. Yes, it's a splurge, but totally worth it for the quality and the service. The restaurant was a bit difficult to locate from the parking garage. I recommend carefully reading the directions on their website beforehand. The restaurant does validate your parking ticket. We had dinner here on a weekday, and there were lots of peopled dining it. The lights are dim, and noise level can get loud quickly. I liked the interior design and setup. We were seated by the window and had a nice view of Bellevue. I ordered Lobster Bisque Soup, USDA Prime Beef Filet Mignon, and New York Style Cheesecake.
