It's such a wonderful place, and you really can't go wrong here! I've dined here three days in a row, and every experience has been fantastic. The chips are refilled at no additional cost, which is such a nice touch. The environment is lovely, and the waitresses are warm and friendly. My favorite is definitely the tacos, especially the sea bass taco. Every dish is packed with flavor and left me feeling full and satisfied for a long time. I'm so happy I discovered this place and would highly recommend it! I normally don't eat spicy food at all, but I make an exception here. Other than Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi, Cantina Monarca is the only other $$$$ restaurant in Lincoln Square (even Fogo De Chao is rated only $$$ which surprised me). It is thus one of the trendiest and most expensive restaurants/bars in Bellevue, with reservations recommended in advance as they only accept a limited number of walk-ins. They pride themselves in serving over 100 different tequilas and limit their establishment to 18 and over only on Fridays and Saturdays after 6pm. My family and I met some friends for dinner on a Saturday evening and made reservations in advance for 6:15pm. They limit your time to two hours after you sit down and so it's important that your entire party is present. The interior is gorgeous with beautiful greenery and rope decor. The doors are engraved and painted gold for that added feeling of luxury. With that said, the music and atmosphere are very loud, to the point where it was hard to each other, much less the waiter taking our orders. The people around us were also loud as there appeared to be a bachelorette party or birthday party that evening. It was also too bright, even with the shades pulled down where those of us facing the window had a hard time seeing with the glare. Their menu is quite extensive both in price and variety, ranging from tacos (starting at $11 per taco) to Lobster Enchiladas ($44), to Adobo Fajitas ($55 for wagyu), to Duck Carnitas for two ($79), to Ribeye (their most expensive item for $125). For tacos, they recommend ordering 2-3 for a meal, which is what most of my family and companions ordered. I decided to deviate and ordered something I've never heard of or had before - a TLAYUDA ($28) with birria. The TLAYUDA has butter basted flame roasted corn tortillas, black bean puree, salsa macha & moolcahete, queso asadero, cherry tomato, hass avocado, baby garden ricotta, and dressed microgreens. I will say that the presentation was very nice and colorful. The vegetables were fresh and it was A LOT of food- I was only able to consumer half of it, if that. The best way I can describe this dish, is a pizza made with black bean puree and lots of cheese smashed between two large tacos and topped with meat and salad. Even though it had a lot of vegetables, I found it way too rich with all the cheese and beans, much less the birria. It just didn't agree with my stomach and I wish I had stuck with the tacos instead like many of my companions had ordered. I did not try the tacos, but my family seemed to enjoy the BAJA SEA BASS TACOS the best ($12 per taco). We also ordered a round of GUAC, SALSA, & CHIPS to share ($19) and a CHIPS & SALSA TRIO ($10). The chips were your typical tortilla chips and the salsas and guac were good. The salsa trio came with a smoky red salsa, a salsa verde, and a creamy orange salsa, which was surprisingly the spiciest of the three. I can't say the guac was anything extraordinary, but you could tell it was fresh and I loved the cute mortar they served it in. Service was decent and we got our food and drinks relatively quick, probably due to the table time limit. A nice thing to note about this restaurant is that 100% of their menu is gluten-free for those who have dietary resrictions. Overall, prices are high and the food is just alright. Like other Yelp reviewers have stated, I would come here once just for the atmosphere and decor, but it would not be on my regular restaurant rotation and I'm not dying to come back anytime soon. We went to Cantina Monarca for a quick "on the day of" dinner on our anniversary. We had a great meal-close to five stars but at these prices the standards are very high. We had several different tacos where the Sea Bass was our favorite (followed closely by the Wagyu). Everything was good but the Sea Bass stood out-tender and moist and crispy on the outside. We also had the Chayote add on (very good) and the gluten free Chocolate cake which was excellent. The drinks were also very good although served after our appetizer arrived. It is really cool inside with sort of a rainforest vibe. You like a mall restaurant that doesn't feel like you are in a mall. It's small and lively too. Our one gripe was we were side by side on a high top which was narrow where I felt like I was about to hit my head on the plants in front of me. Service was excellent, friendly and quick. This is a gorgeous, high-end Mexican restaurant located right in Bellevue. The ambiance inside is absolutely incredible and immediately transports you straight to Mexico. it feels less like just going out to a restaurant and more like a beautifully curated destination right here in the Pacific Northwest. Everything we ordered was completely out of this world and offered a truly elevated culinary experience. We tried the ribeye tacos (which were incredible), the tuna tostada, the guacamole, and a variety of their margaritas (my favorite was the smoky and spicy). From the apps to the entrees to the cocktails, absolutely everything was next level. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the ingredients and the execution make it absolutely worth it. The entire vibe of the space is stunning, and the service matched it perfectly. Every time I come here I find myself saying "omg I need to come here more often!" Truly a magical experience. From the second you walk in, everything is luxury. The atmosphere is iconic, the service is top notch, and the food is spectacular. I LOVE that the whole menu (mostly) is gluten free. That's how it should be at a Mexican place! This spot was fun to check out as it offers good ambiance and food! The receptionist was nice and took care of us quickly soon after we arrived. My friend and I had this restaurant on our bucket list so we decided to check them out on a double date. It was okay, not quite our expectations. For food, we ordered 3 tacos each as recommended by the waiter. It was enough and delicious. The group's favorite was the sea bass. I personally favored the el rey just because i didnt order the sea bass. For drinks, we all thought they were just ok. Not enough alcohol, but to add a shot costed $20. My husband did like the melon beso though and thought that was the best out of the 3 he tried. My friend and her husband liked the smoke & spice. I personally didnt like any of the drinks. We understand some drinks are supposed to be sweet but it should not taste overly sweet to the point ya gotta pucker each sip. We also thought it was bizarre that you cant switch out the tequila in the drinks because they are premade yet there is a full list of types of tequila, which apparently is only for the $20 shots of tequila. One of us seemed to be prioritized on getting their drinks at a reasonable time. The rest of us had to wait a bit for ours. We made a reservation days prior and were able to get a table for the time frame we wanted. We sat upstairs, which felt crammed. There is an area upstairs in the back where it feels much more open, but the aisle area we were in was not comfortable for us. Others around us seemed to have struggled to navigate around here as well. Downstairs looks and feels more roomy. The upstairs was also not picturesque compared to downstairs. If you are making a reservation, i would see if you can get a seat downstairs. Our first waitress was rude after we were taking a while to order. This restaurant is basically trying to legally discriminate against families with small children. Made a Father's Day reservation well in advance and wrote in the notes we were bringing an 8 month old and would need a high chair or table with space for a stroller, less than 24 hours before the reservation they texted me to say that they don't provide high chairs or allow strollers in the restaurant. The rude manager Candice was unapologetic about her staff failing to read the notes on my reservation when I made it and for the very late notice. When I asked if she could make an accommodation for a small stroller that would be the footprint of a chair she said no and that it was an elevated establishment that did not allow strollers due to the size of the restaurant(which is actually pretty large). She ignorantly offered to sit us at a table with a bench which is just plain dangerous for a baby to sit at. She also lied about the website stating no strollers or high chairs, however this is not at all mentioned on the website. This place doesn't want families there but also doesn't want the public shame with openly saying that so they just make it unsafe for your kid by not offering high chairs or allowing small strollers. I visited for dinner before and had a great time, so decided to stop by for lunch this time. The lunch menu is more affordable; you can select 2 items from the menu for $17. I chose 2 tacos but there's also a salad option as well as quesadillas, tostadas, and etc. I thoroughly enjoyed my tacos, especially the sakura pork belly taco. My party all ordered different things so I tried some of the salad as well, which was solid. I didn't think the quesadilla was as good as the taco options, but it wasn't bad, just didn't stand out. We also ordered the chips, guac, and salsa combo, which was a good starter. I wish there was more guac though, for the price. I love the margaritas here, they taste so fresh and are decorated with a lot of flair. Look at how beautiful they are! I highly recommend grabbing a drink here. We had a reservation and were taken through the beautiful and lively downstairs area. The second we got upstairs, all I could think was: Womp womp womp. The upstairs is completely a downgrade from the downstairs. Our table had cut marks and drink stains all over it. You could tell the upstairs area was such an afterthought seeing the contrast of the beautiful cocktails on such an unkept table.
