They have a great covered patio that is pet friendly. Order your food inside and then someone will bring it to the table for you. ' I ordered the shredded chicken with okra and fries. The chicken came with BBQ sauce on it already. The okra was really good. It came out hot and wasn't soggy like some fried okra can be. The chicken was good. It didn't have a lot of flavor (like smokiness) but it was juicy and the sauce was good. I also ordered the pecan pie for dessert. It was tasty! Disappointing experience at the Poplar location today. First of all, I do try stopping here every time I'm in down. My past visits have all been great. However today, when I ordered my usual brisket plate, it came to the table slathered in bbq sauce. This is the first time that's happened. Not sure if it's new but bbq is a deeply personal experience and should not be sauced by any restaurant. Under all that sauce were two slices of the fattiest brisket I've seen. Almost all fat. I got a loaded baked potato with chicken. The drinks and sauces are in the middle of the place and when we went for dinner on a weeknight they were out of all the sauces. Huge bummer. The potato was honestly so bland and had zero flavor. Mine didn't have butter and it was not salted or seasoned at all. The meat was also lacking in flavor and was very very dry. It also tasted old so I'm not sure how fresh it was. The bottom of the potato was also burnt. I tried a side of the max and cheese and it was good. We sat outside and the weather was nice. Every time I've been here the food has been exceptional, the service has always been friendly, the food comes out fast, and the restaurant itself is clean. To go order experience: No real menus to describe anything about their food other than the generic sign on the wall. I had to ask someone what certain items were, had in them, etc. Went back to kiosk and placed order. Kiosk asked for phone number to tell me when food was ready. $50+ for an appetizer and entree...but it gets better. I never get a text, call, nothing. I walk back in after half an hour to a soggy half order of nachos and cold food when the staff said, "Oh, that's been ready for over 20 minutes". They are closing and I am hungry, so I leave ticked off but with food. I opened the food when I got to the hotel to see an ok size half rack of ribs and not much brisket at all. The sides are literally the size of a jello snack cup that each cost an extra $1 each for mac and cheese and banana pudding. $32 main course and I feel ripped off between that and the soggy nachos. Only good thing that semi justified the price was the half rack, and it is only a half rack. Green beans seemed like someone just phoned it in by adding a little seasoning and a bunch of onions. $50+ of disappointment, and to add insult to injury they didn't put a receipt in the bag even though I selected "print receipt" at the kiosk, so now I have to file a lost receipt claim for my expenses. BBQ really benefits from being served hot, so that was disappointing. I had the three meat plate with brisket, chicken, and turkey. All three were far below average and didn't have the flavor or texture I was hoping for. Oddly enough, the salad was warmer than the meat (reminds of that Family Guy "Every Pizza Place Salad" bit, look it up on YouTube). On the positive side, the staff were polite and the prices were fair. That said, between the wait time and the food quality, it's not a place I would return to. Just in the interests of simplicity, predictability, and efficiency, my wife and I dropped by here on an early Saturday evening prior to our music concert. I ordered the three meat combo plate ($25.00). The pulled pork and beef brisket were delicious. I wasn't altogether impressed with the smoked turkey, though. It seemed like merely sliced sandwich meat. My wife said that she really liked the smoked turkey. Go figure. There were two sides included with my plate dinner. The slaw was delicious, but the portion size was minuscule. However, in the same sized serving cup, the greens were substantial, due to the higher density of that food. The iced tea here was fresh and delicious. They even sell delicious, locally-made cupcakes out of a refrigerator located near the cash registers. It's been two years since I've been back. I stopped by the other day for a pickup order and it was a fast and easy process. I ordered the smoked wings dry and the wings dipped in hot sauce. My friend ordered the turkey and BBQ her sides were fried okra and greens. She said she really enjoyed the sides. The turkey was underwhelming she didn't even finish it.
