Wanted Memphis style bbq but it's Sunday and apparently any good place is closed on this day. So settled for Texas style in Memphis. The brisket was the least liked. It was dry. The ribs and turkey were good and nice flavor. The pulled pork was tender. All 3 sauces were good. The sides. The potato salad was best. The collard was worst. The slaw was basic. The beans are decent. The banana pudding was ok. I prefer actual pudding and this one was just fluff with wafers.

Service was extremely quick, has its own free parking. Southern Memphis decor inside and ample seating. Brisket was pretty pricey ($14 to add on top of nachos versus an extra $5 or so for pulled pork). Mac n cheese was eh. The meats were amazing though (I really enjoyed the loaded nachos and I tried my friend's brisket which was probably worth the price). The Texan Twinkie was also pretty good, very bacon-forward flavor and not too spicy. Overall: solid BBQ spot in a nice part of Memphis, would recommend trying a side besides the Mac

One of the best barbecue spots in Memphis, which says a lot. Always grab me a Texas Twinkie when I am there. Order it as a side item and it's $4 less rather than buying it alone. You won't be disappointed. Pulled pork is spot on. Sides are good. Get there early before the brisket is out. The workers are always happy to help - shout out to Drew, Chelsea & Steffi.

I was on the fence about this place!! When I went they were out of 50% of meat choices . So I was forced to get the brisket which was a 5$ upcharge I wasnt aware of and all that was left was that and pork ribs.. now the brisket and ribs were delicious!! But the greens and macaroni needs some work... overall it was ok. They did have a nice patio out front if you want to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Service was very fast and friendly so thats a plus!

2 meat plate. Sorry, I forgot to take a pic before I started eating. I was hungry!

As a fan of TX brisket, I've been wanting to try this joint. I love all styles of BBQ, and Memphis has some fantastic Q. Bain's is unique due to the brisket and interesting takes on their sides. The staff were so energetic and friendly. The restaurant is in an older house and you can sign your name on the walls. Kind of quirky. I will definitely be back!

The food was great! The line nearly reached the front entrance. Servers were very kind and the inside of the restaurant looked great. We sat outside with two dogs and they kindly brought out water for the both of them. Everything was great other than the flies that swarmed us.

Dined here on a Friday evening around 5 p.m. at the Cooper-Young location. We were honestly surprised that the parking lot was nearly empty since we'd heard so many great things and expected it to be busy on a Friday. We entered through the back entrance and weren't greeted by anyone, so we had to figure out where to order on our own. This is an order-and-pay-first restaurant, which was fine once we realized how it worked. We originally came for the beef rib, but were told it's only available on Saturdays and Sundays. Then we tried ordering the smoked wings--also only available on Saturdays and Sundays. Next, we asked for the wrapped jalapeños, and again were told they're only offered on Saturdays and Sundays. It was pretty disappointing since several of the items we were most excited to try weren't available. I also didn't find the two women behind the counter to be very welcoming, and I felt a bit rushed while ordering. At that point, I was ready to leave, but my husband convinced me to stay and order what was available. We ended up getting the smoked turkey, brisket, jalapeño slaw, and macaroni and cheese. Overall, the food was just average. The brisket was the highlight of the meal, although it could have used a little more flavor. I ended up putting it on the bread with the jalapeño slaw to make a little sandwich, and that was actually pretty good. The smoked turkey was decent, but nothing memorable. The macaroni and cheese, however, was a 2/10 and not something I'd recommend. One thing I did notice was that the food got cold very quickly, so we felt like we had to eat fast. The drink station is self-serve, and there isn't really any table service beyond bringing your food out. Based on this visit, I think the restaurant is a bit overrated. Maybe our experience would have been different if we had visited on a weekend when more menu items were available, but for a Friday evening, it just didn't live up to the hype. Overall, I'd give it a 6/10.

    Brisket Sandwich

Best BBQ I've had in Memphis by far. Brisket was extremely juicy and they even asked if I wanted a fatty or more lean piece (fatty of course). The sides were top notch. Both the Mac and cheese and the potato salad were amazing. Texas Twinkie was also a hit I actually went back to buy another. Very cool looking building as well. Real old charm and tons of seating and sauces for everyone. Steffi was also extremely attentive and offered help when she served us our wings as well. The staff as a whole seemed to be in great spirits and actually enjoying their time. Will definitely be back.

I was this many years old when I learned that such a lowkey, EXCELLENT bbq spot existed in Cooper Young. Let's start with the food. My friends got the brisket plate and I got the turkey sandwich. It's a little pricey but worth it! Every bite is flavorful perfection! And my friend also bought banana pudding! IT WAS SO GOOD! I just had a spoonful but I savored it. You order your food and receive it before you sit down, so service is great in that regard. No wait. The restaurant is a house, which (of course) I love. It's Copper Young. What's not to love? I noticed that they had sports on the TV, so the ambiance is laid back and pretty tapped into what the customers like. I will be back!

    Turkey and Brisket to go

I was on the hunt for some Brisket and I saw that this place had some pretty good reviews so I headed out. Unfortunately the day I went the area had a power outage so I had to go back the next day. The restaurant is cute and casual, I was very warmly greeted and informed about their offerings and what they were sold out of. I decided to get the 2 meat plate so I could try it before a purchased a larger portion for my family. I chose the Brisket and Turkey with Potato Salad and Mac and Cheese on the side. The Brisket was good almost dry but to be fair I did ask for a leaner cut. We all know more fat equals more juicy flavor. The Mac and Cheese was cooked perfectly but I prefer a little more flavor. It tasted like noodles and bechamel sauce it needed a punch of something. Same with the potato salad a little bland. Not bad, I'm sure some folks like it that way. They added pickled onions and it went perfectly with the brisket, I really enjoyed that together. Now, the Shining Star was the Turkey! It was so moist and flavorful, I will definitely be going back for that and the brisket. I did order some brisket and turkey to go and my family really enjoyed it. The brisket was more tender in the to go order.

Amazing again and again! Good, service and vibes are incredible. I love the new options of the smash burger and fried foods. I just love everything about Bain's! Change nothing!

A good experience at this up and coming Memphis spot. We got there at 5:50pm on a Friday, and we got the last of their brisket for the day. A good sign to be sure! We ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a side of chips (beef fat fried ftw) and a one meat plate (brisket) with rib tip beans and Mac and cheese as the sides. We sat outside on a nice open balcony and enjoyed a selection of 3 bbq sauces with our meal. The mustard sauce was by far the favorite, with the hot sauce lacking in body and the sweet sauce being a bit too sweet. The chips were amazing, the beans could have used more salt and tang, and the Mac was likewise just a touch under flavored. The brisket was fantastic... the perfect mix of lean and fatty. The pulled pork also had a good balance of flavors and textures. All accounted for, a great meal with decent service at a decent price.

To me, it was shit, to her, it was the next pinnacle to which nothing else has compared since. We come during Cooper Young Festival every year and the service can be a bit snippy and rushed. It actually pisses me off sometimes. I do understand the need to get people through the place quickly, but you can do so without being as curt and laconic. We will return, without a doubt. I do love beer. My only suggestion would be a corral of puppies to pet while you get wasted. That would be pretty rad, maybe like a puppy rental system could work. '24 - 3/100
