Service was extremely quick, has its own free parking. Southern Memphis decor inside and ample seating. Brisket was pretty pricey ($14 to add on top of nachos versus an extra $5 or so for pulled pork). Mac n cheese was eh. The meats were amazing though (I really enjoyed the loaded nachos and I tried my friend's brisket which was probably worth the price). I really enjoyed my lunch here Saturday. I had the brisket plate with beans and potato salad and it was great. I was a BIG fan of the mustard based bbq sauce. It wasn't 10/10 perfect because there were a couple of slices of my meat that were on the drier side, but the flavor was great and I'd definitely return and try some of the other options! I was on the hunt for some Brisket and I saw that this place had some pretty good reviews so I headed out. Unfortunately the day I went the area had a power outage so I had to go back the next day. The restaurant is cute and casual, I was very warmly greeted and informed about their offerings and what they were sold out of. I decided to get the 2 meat plate so I could try it before a purchased a larger portion for my family. I chose the Brisket and Turkey with Potato Salad and Mac and Cheese on the side. The Brisket was good almost dry but to be fair I did ask for a leaner cut. We all know more fat equals more juicy flavor. The Mac and Cheese was cooked perfectly but I prefer a little more flavor. It tasted like noodles and bechamel sauce it needed a punch of something. Same with the potato salad a little bland. Not bad, I'm sure some folks like it that way. They added pickled onions and it went perfectly with the brisket, I really enjoyed that together. Now, the Shining Star was the Turkey! I was this many years old when I learned that such a lowkey, EXCELLENT bbq spot existed in Cooper Young. Let's start with the food. My friends got the brisket plate and I got the turkey sandwich. It's a little pricey but worth it! Every bite is flavorful perfection! And my friend also bought banana pudding! IT WAS SO GOOD! I just had a spoonful but I savored it. You order your food and receive it before you sit down, so service is great in that regard. No wait. The restaurant is a house, which (of course) I love. It's Copper Young. What's not to love? A good experience at this up and coming Memphis spot. We got there at 5:50pm on a Friday, and we got the last of their brisket for the day. A good sign to be sure! We ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a side of chips (beef fat fried ftw) and a one meat plate (brisket) with rib tip beans and Mac and cheese as the sides. We sat outside on a nice open balcony and enjoyed a selection of 3 bbq sauces with our meal. The mustard sauce was by far the favorite, with the hot sauce lacking in body and the sweet sauce being a bit too sweet. The chips were amazing, the beans could have used more salt and tang, and the Mac was likewise just a touch under flavored. The brisket was fantastic... the perfect mix of lean and fatty. If you want Texas style bbq, the food here is great! I like the setup - when you order at the counter, they quickly portion out each meat and side dish. I also like the patio and decor. My one complaint is that it is definitely pricey. I understand that they have high quality meat, but we paid $65 for this tray and it was barely enough for 2 of us. This self service restaurant offers a generous portions of high quality cuts of meat from well seasoned Wagyu beef burn ends over the weekends, beef brisket, Memphis styled dry rub ribs to sausages. I especially enjoyed the half pound of Wagyu beef. The sweet sauce balanced the gooey caramelization of the fatty rich ends. The thick cuts of brisket were the most equally cut, tender and beefy flavor. The Texas Twinkle is a must try side--a cream cheese stuffed jalapeño wrapped with bacon. Pure bliss. Checked out Bain BBQ for the first time today after hearing all the hype. We got the 2 meat plate with spare ribs and honey garlic sausage. The sides we got were Mac and cheese, greens w/pork and chips. The ribs...FYE. Cleaned the bone on those. The honey garlic sausage was alright. I expected more flavor. Mac and cheese and greens were good, but nothing too crazy. The chips had a good flavor and crunch. I'll give em a 7/10 overall. Out of towner who loves BBQ and has tried many from major cities known for BBQ. Tried Bain based on reviews. Initially we were disappointed, but the BBQ is damn good!!! We arrived today/Friday at 5:00 pm and were immediately greeted by friendly employees behind the counter. We were informed they sold out of everything meat except Turkey and Pulled Pork. The three of us all went with pulled pork. I had sides of Tex Twinkie and BBQ Beans. It came with soft sweet sliced bread and pickles and pickled onions. We also order Wings w dry rub and Smoked BBQ. The pulled pork was juicy and full of smoke flavor. You could some pieces w smoke ring! The BBQ Beans were nothing special. Almost tastes like it was from a can. The Tex Twinkie was delicious!!! My companion had the Pulled Pork Nachos with Jalapeno Lime Coleslaw. I tried the coleslaw and it was light and refreshing which balanced well with the pulled pork! The wings were great. The dry rub was liberally spiced and tasty. The Smoked BBQ wings were delicious and covered in their sweet Memphis Sauce. The wings were cooked perfectly! The BBQ sauces on the table were delicious!! My favorite was the Hot BBQ sauce although I also enjoyed the Mustard BBQ sauce. The Memphis Sweet BBQ was on the sweet side of course but was also very good! Bain's BBQ is the full restaurant equivalent of the McDonald's ice cream machine. You want it, you'll order it, but it's never available. This place seemingly never has any barbecue. I can almost understand not having ribs, brisket, and burnt ends available all the time. But they never have anything on Friday and Saturday during dinner hours. And I mean they got nothing. It's not just the barbecue. They inexplicably run out of sides. What's the excuse for not having any sides available? I've visited this place three times. They never have anything. The second time I went all they had was pulled pork, turkey, potato chips, and potato salad. WT(actual)F? I ended up trying the pulled pork sandwich and potato salad. The sandwich had a lot of meat, but it's not a cheap sandwich either. The pulled pork was decent but it was fairly bland. The slaw and the sauce didn't stand out too much. The potato salad was very bland to the point of being flavorless. So let's just say it's understandable for a physical barbecue restaurant to consistently be sold out of all of their low and slow barbecue during weekend hours. Let's grant them that. How the hell do you run out of sides? I've never seen a restaurant never have anything side dishes. No sides no desserts, I mean they probably run out of napkins and toilet paper too, I'm not sure. *Take a look at my screenshot of the Bain website* Look at it and observe that I'm on the "anytime menu." See how everything is sold out? How do you run out of a smash burger? They sold out of burgers? Really? I mean I understand wanting to keep shrink down and run a tight inventory. Since this post I've visited this establishment twice and all I can say is wow. My first visit I got overwhelmed by all the choices, so I purchased a little bit of this and a little bit of that (smoked brisket, polish sausage, stuffed green pepper, baked bean, loaded potato salad, and a double cheese-smashburger w/all trimmings). At the end I was shocked by the price of $89 a tad bit expensive but me being me the food last for 3 days, making it a $30 dinner. My next visit I'll be getting the burnt ends and macaroni and cheese. Definitely worth going the food is exceptional. read more

Went to try the Special Burger during Burger Week sponsored by the Memphis Flyer. Pretty good size burger with a smashed patty, potato bun, onions, cheese, lettuce, tomoato, pickles, and special sauce. It was seasoned well and a tad salty but others seasonings made the burger tasty. I had an order of seasoned fries on the side. Those were hot and fresh. The drinks are self service as well as utensils. Everyone in the dining area was helpful. Service was good. Heather was very nice and helpful. The ambiance is bright and pleasant. There are many signs posted to help you manuever to enter and exit in the correct places. The restaurant is a renovated home with many chairs inside and outside. Their is parking available in the back which is nice and convenient. I have been here before to try the bbq. Nice restaurant. Wish it was closer to where I live but always nice to enjoy other eateries around M-Town. read more

Still just as good as we remembered, but a heads-up for anyone visiting: we looked at a menu online before heading in, and when we got there, the prices and options were a bit different with the platters. It threw us off a bit, I took a photo of the menu in person so maybe double check that before you go. (If youre a plan your meal ahead kinda person) One cool thing we learned is that the Texas Twinkie is actually considered a side when you order the platters, which was a nice surprise. And let me just say, those things were fantastic! Last time i had one it was way too hot for me, but this time it had only a little bit of spice, so i was able to enjoy it more. The sausage was also a hit--flavorful and perfectly cooked. The ribs, though tasty, were a bit underwhelming with the amount of meat on them. But they still had that great BBQ flavor, so no complaints there. Overall, still a great spot! AND, they have a point system now where every $2 you spend you get 1 point..and every 50 points you get $5 off. So pretty psyched for that now too! Bain BBQ is one of my all around favorite places in the area. They make the best beef BBQ in the City of Memphis and the closest thing you will find to Texas BBQ within 100 miles! I'll move away if you can prove me wrong!!! Loser leave town style! I'll just move to Dyersburg and be able to eat at Blake Stokers place. The brisket here is fucking fantastic! In fact, it's so good I struggle to even try anything else. I've put off writing a review here because I am so stuck and can't really offer any diversity in advice other than the brisket and the pastrami, which are essentially the same except for the pre-smoke production. I keep saying I'm going to get some ribs, pulled pork, sausages, and some of the other beautiful things I've seen behind the magic meat counter. But no.... I can't even think straight when I walk in man. bR1Zki7! Heather is a doll, just love her personality! I have not met her worser half, Bryant, on my visits. I am sure he is in the kitchen, where a man should be!! It's in a cool little old house in Cooper Young and has all the quirks you can imagine a restahouse would have. I dig it though. It's my kind of place!! It does give them some slight hell on maintenance. I did notice they are evolving lately. Lots of new items on the menu, which obviously I have not tried. LOL. I think they changed the sauce formulas, I love the hot one now! They changed the beans and I absolutely HATE IT! Boo!! Hiss!! I had some terrible Mac and cheese a while back, I hope it's better now, but I won't be falling for that shit again. I guess I'll just eat more protein and no sides. I found myself back in Memphis and decided not to miss out on barbecue again. Girls behind the counter filled me in that this is Texas style barbecue and so I feel like I'm a pretty good judge as far as that goes as a Houstonian. Love this area of town and the building being a restored house with tons of artwork and character help them forge a distinctive look and feel. Everyone working had great attitudes and personalities and helped us decided what my family should order. I'll rate the Texas Trinity: Brisket 4/5 - simply seasoned and let the beef speak for itself, That's a key to Texas brisket. Could have used a bit more salt on the rub, but that's a personal preference. Pulled apart easy, and stayed relatively moist. Great smoke ring. Regular Sausage 2/5 - wasn't a big fan of the flavor or texture here. Meat was likely over worked before being cooked or overcooked. Pork Ribs 5/5 - did memphisnproud here, was my fave of the 3. Great bark formed on the outside. Cooked perfectly and came of the bone clean without falling off. We had the Mac and cheese and pinto beans as sides and like both as well. Rounded out the meal with the pulled pork sandwich and had no complaints there either. Everything was clearly cooked low and slow with the massive smoker that's out back and the product reflects that time and patience. read more

Stopped by today and got two, two-meat combos and a 1/2 pound of pastrami. Meats were brisket, spareribs, pulled pork, and cheddar jalapeno sausage. Sides were mac and cheese, potato salad, beans, and jalapeno coleslaw. I ordered everything to go and had about a half-hour trek back to to the Millington area. Everything was delicious. Stand outs: 1. The ordering experience. The staff was so friendly and we chatted for a while (I was the only person in line at the time). 2. The pastrami. This was probably my favorite thing. You get your typical pastrami spices, but there is more. Coriander (I think)? It's something special. 3. The mac and cheese. No lie, probably some of the best mac and cheese I've ever had. Full stop. Now, something I thought was good but not blown away by -- the brisket. It was tasty and tender, but a tad dry by the time I got to it (and that was probably due to the ~30 min drive home). It also had a bit of a pot roast flavor and that's just something that's hard to avoid when holding brisket. I'll definitely be giving it another go to re-evaluate. read more

On 8/9/25, my husband and I were visiting Memphis on a weekend getaway. We enjoy traveling, exploring local spots, and tasting authentic food. Based on Yelp reviews, my daughter recommended this BBQ place, so we decided to try it. The restaurant is set up in a single house, giving it a family-style feel, which made us expect a friendly, welcoming experience. Unfortunately, what we experienced was the opposite. When we arrived, we weren't sure how to order, so we let another customer go ahead of us. He appeared to be a local regular and was served generous cuts of roast beef and spareribs by the pound. When it was our turn, I requested the same. Instead of confirming, the server (who I later learned is the owner) cut from the smallest burnt end of the ribs and gave us thin slices of beef from the small end. When I politely asked if we could have pieces from the larger side, she arrogantly responded, "Every customer needs to take the end piece." The quality and portion were clearly not the same as what the local customer had just received. After paying, I realized we had been given a combo meal instead of meat by the pound, which I did not order. When I asked the cashier about the server's name, I was told she was the owner. She then raised her hands, made mocking faces, and said in a provocative tone, "Yeah, I'm the owner. If you don't like it here, pack your food and leave." As the owner, behavior like this is unacceptable. We have traveled throughout Asia, Europe, and the Mediterranean, and we have never been treated with such arrogance and disrespect. Most restaurants are welcoming to tourists, but here we felt singled out and treated differently from local (especially white) customers. The food itself was average, and for nearly $30 for a combo meal, it was not worth it. Respect and fair treatment should matter just as much as food quality. If you want to enjoy Memphis BBQ, I recommend visiting other restaurants where both the food and hospitality reflect the city's true spirit. read more

In the namesake city of Memphis Style Barbecue, Bain BBQ is serving up Texas Style Barbecue playing that away game every day. The couple times I've been to Memphis and the google searches, I think they are the ONLY Texas Style in the surrounding area. And they are killing it. I went back two days. Mainly because I forgot to take a picture yesterday lol. The brisket was moist and a nice smokey flavor on the bark. Yesterday I got some of the point but today I went for the flat because I wanted to try a little bit of both. And the lie is definitely as moist as the fatty parts. The turkey was wonderfully moist bathing in butter with a peppery exterior. The Texas Twinkie had a perfect jalapeño with the right amount of heat. Wrapped in a nicely rendered slice of bacon. On the note of the jalapeño, the jalapeño lime slaw was delicious. The heat was perfect (for me) that I have no worries about a painful . . . later . . . anyways. I love this slaw. The baked beans with little rib trimming inside was a perfect pair with both of these jalapeño dishes with a little bit of sweetness. Of course the ribs were delicious. They have to be in this competitive Memphis market. Roughly 4 years ago I went around and ate at various places in this city, and I'm pretty sure I'd still end up at Bain. Oh! Dont forget dessert. I got the blueberry lemon cheesecake AFTER finishing all the food. I polished that off too. The creamy and acidic cheesecake mixed together with bursts of sweetness every time I bite into a pop of blueberry. Makes me drool just thinking about it again.
