On my way home I didn't wanna cook a thing so I decided close to home to stop n just get a BBQ Sandwich. I was kinda happy it wasn't crowded. Lol. The young fella at the counter took my order, we chatted a bit n he was really cool for 19. The order didn't take long n I came home. Once settled turned on the Grizzlies n opened my order n wow! Everything looked great. The amount of BBQ probably could e lasted two days, but not this night. Lol. It had been awhile since I had stopped in and awhile since I had Bbq and I was satisfied. Let me start off with the only negative that I have of the place and it should be addressed. Walking in, there are monitors to put menu boards up, but they were all out. They did have menus at the counters and looking at it, I went with their catfish. Now here is the issue. On the menu it says $9.99, but it was actually thirteen or fourteen dollars. Now, I understand food is expensive and continues to rise, but they should at the very least, put the correct price on the menu. Now, it was still a good price for the catfish I ordered and the catfish was very good. I went with baked beans and coleslaw for my two sides. They were okay. Not bad, but not great. They were...okay. The young woman behind the counter was friendly and added to my overall experience. Walking in, I noticed they had a bar you could get to through an open door. The restaurant itself was okay in ambiance. It was geared more towards a fast-food type place, which was more than okay. I would definitely recommend here. read more

I review BBQ restaurants all over the US. Thought the Pulled Salmon sandwich sounded interesting. To start, the bathrooms were atrocious. They were dirty, and had no toilet paper. Ordered my food, and they had no drinks or ice. Then the servers copped an attitude. They were rude, and had the "angry black people" attitude. No excuse for it. Great food! The customer service is lacking and the decor is minimal, at best. We really went for the food and it did not disappoint! I think Memphis is great for BBQ, period, so I don't really have favorite places that stand out amongst others. I also pretty much stick to the same order each time I have a taste for some, so maybe I am not the best person to judge in an entirety sort of way. I've eaten here twice and each time I get the chopped beef sandwich with slaw and a side. Both times I ordered to go and, for me, it was perfect. The only thing that would have maybe made it better is if the sandwich was piping hot when it was given to me and retained most of its heat by the time I got home. Nice amount of sauce on the sandwich. Not too dry, not too drenched. Flavorful meat. Fries and beans are good. I don't need a lot to be happy. BBQ should be simple and good and thats what I would say Big Bill's is. My go-to if I have a taste for BBQ and happen to be in that area of town. read more

Poor advertisement of closed restaurant. My friend and I met to have dinner while I was in town and chose to come here. After driving across town and the building was boarded up and closed. Glad we found this place through Yelp. We walked in, and the place was empty, so we were a bit nervous. The service was rapid, a plus, and the food was fresh. The seasoning on the catfish was delicious. The place is a pretty nice size and can accommodate many people. As we sat and ate, it gradually became busy. At that point, we noticed they had just opened. One teachable moment I will recommend, even if not busy, look busy versus sitting on the countertop where food is being served and on your cellphone. read more

BLACK OWNED ALERT. I decided to try a well known Whitehaven classic Big Bills new location in East Memphis and I will say my experience was great my food was average. I got the smoked salmon burger with potato salad and fries. My salmon burger was aite. The potato salad was meh. And the fries were cold. Honestly I'm not going to hold this against them just because I know it's a BBQ spot and I should've gotten ribs but I'm on a diet so I had to go with the salmon. I tried this restaurant for the first time this week. Not going to add it to my "must go again" list. I had the chicken nachos, which were more bbq sauce than cheese, so I ended up eating mostly bbq-flavored tortilla chips. The chicken was not very flavorful and quite dry. When we walked in, we were overwhelmed with loud music, so much so we couldn't even hear what the lady that was taking our order said. She seemed really put out that we asked her to repeat what she said. Also, when we were giving her our order, her face was planted in her phone as she was texting somebody. I've been a fan of Big Bill's since he was on Elvis Presley. That's where I always direct visitors because, let's be honest, many of the Memphis bbq spots that are hyped up aren't good. I said what I said. But since BBB moved out to Kirby, I've only been to that location a couple of times. And because I'm a creature of habit, I normally get the same thing when I go. But last week I joined my fellow Yelp Elites for a tasting on the patio. Not only were there a variety of dishes including nachos, ribs, bang bang chicken and sliders, there were many different meats (chicken, pork, Turkey, beef and salmon) to accommodate our group. The sides were plentiful as always, and that spaghetti was BUSSIN. The only thing that missed the mark was the pulled chicken, as it was a little dry. However, that's my go-to meal and it's always on point so I chalk it up to an off night. I've heard great things about their Sunday Brunch, so I plan to make my reservation soon. Memphis BBQ ... The location was very clean, great set up for even the busiest of times, the menus are digital making it easy to read what your getting and the service was fast. Now , this is the first BBQ spot i have been in for years that didn't have a two or three meat option. So I had to select one meat and picked brisket , (hot or mild) I went with mild with beans and slaw for sides. The portions of meat are awesome, the brisket was very flavorful and the sauce was solid. Hookah smoking in bar area - smoke wafts through the slats into dining areas, there is no solid wall. If smoke, nicotine bothers anyone in your party, if anyone is allergic or asthmatic, please be aware that you could be affected by the smoke. While we ate, people brought their hookah from the bar into the dining area, smoked around kids and other diners. Menu items were not available. Employees, manager seemed bored. Recommend including hookah smoke in descriptions for full disclosure to those who dine with kids, elderly, or who can't tolerate it. Diners don't expect smoke in indoor places. My mom and I ordered lunch and dinner to go. We both ordered a BBQ shoulder sandwich with mild sauce and slaw along with the rib tip platter w/2 sides. We chose spaghetti, 2 baked beans, and potato salad and we both enjoyed the meal. My mom said she had some tough pieces of meat in her sandwich and rib tips, but it didn't ruin her meal. I also enjoyed my meal, some tough pieces of rib tips, but that didn't bother me either. The baked beans were really good and the spaghetti is bbq spaghetti and has a nice little kick to it. Not too much,but you know it's there. I will return and although it is kind of far from me, I didn't mind the drive, especially for good bbq. For this to be bbq city it is hard for me to find bbq I like and this is one I will add to my very short list of bbq places. I hope the next visit is just as pleasant and the food stays consistent. We were greeted right away by staff and in and out in less than 30 mins. Oh the bbq sandwich is messy and I loved it! I like a messy sandwich every now and then,and this was spot on. I travelled from Midtown to check this place out. The location is perfectly positioned in the strip so you don't have to drive around looking for it. The inside looks better than any BBQ place/restaurant I've ever seen. A+ for putting attention into the building and food!!! It's great to know you can get a "healthier" option with the Salmon Burger. While I finished EVERY morsel I expected more of a Salmon filet vs chopped salmon, which made it a bit more challenging because the meat kept falling off. I know nothing about BBQ or running a business BUT I DO know about eating food!!! I would like to see either the chopped salmon tossed in the BBQ sauce or a salmon filet on a bun for more control. Big Bill's should be called Lil Bill because the portions are LIL as a mug! I know it's a bbq joint (which by the way normally serve huge portions by default)... so maybe I was wrong for ordering a fish sandwich. Butttt when these folks served me a catfish filet on LIGHT BREAD (as my grandma calls it) I was outdone. The filet itself was tasty and crispy even tho it was hors d'oeuvre size. What a great experience. Went here for brunch on a Sunday. You need reservations which we had, so check in was easy! The food was AMAZING! I had everything, cause I'm greedy catfish, salmon,French toast, grits , potatoes, pasta salad, strawberry salad!!! Everything.... EVERYTHING was good! We had the bottomless mimosas and we tried the pancake shooters which I'd never tried before! Those were very tasty! The music was good, very nice atmosphere! All you need to know it is ...the food is amazing! Let's start with the chicken plate. The BBQ sauce is delicious. It had a sweet and tangy flavor that will definitely have you wanting more. The green beans had a beautiful fresh green color that signified the level of freshness. They definitely didn't come out of a can!
