So I'm wandering around D1 on Saturday morning feeling peckish and regretting the fact that I am not joining S_ and company for breakfast, but I just have too much shopping to do and as I am assisting Santa Claus this year again I can't work on his lists with S_ around.
Reaching Parnell St. and reaching starvation level I decide to pop into the Central. I've passed this place hundreds of times, but never gone inside.
It's a typical old school chipper restaurant, with a take-away attached, the sort that used to be common.
Not expecting much, I order the Traditional Large Irish, which according to the menu consists of Sausage (2), Bacon (2), Fried Egg, Grilled Tomato, Saute Mushrooms, White Pudding (2), Beans or Hash Brown, Toast (2) and tea or Coffee. I opted for a has brown over beans.
My server advised me that there was a large order in and it would be a few minutes, nice to be given notice. I was ok with that and a few minutes later breakfast was served; WITH BEANS AND NO HASH BROWN!!!
OK I wasn't all that put out, I like beans, but I did mention it to my server. She apologised, and asked would I eat them anyway. I said ok not a big deal. She then went back to the counter where I could distinctly hear her say "Can I get a hash brown quick, I made a mistake." In short order a hash brown was delivered on a side plate with more apologies. So far I can't fault the service anyway.
The brekkie was everything I expected from a good greasy spoon. In particular, you just can't beat proper chipper style deep fried sausages. The bacon saw thick cut and plenty of it, and the hash brown was crisp and not as greasy as they can be.
The coffee was old school filter coffee, and decent. All that for 7.50.
I don't pass up this way very often on the morning, but I'll be happy to go back when I do.
Star lost for no black pudding (sorry guys it is a staple) and not open Sunday morning, coz I did try to go back the next day, but otherwise, for a traditional greasy spoon fry up it ticks all the boxes, does exactly what it says in the tin and has excellent service. read more
