I come here for the cheap vaccinations. I recommend to pay in cash. Otherwise you can pay with a credit card plus a service fee. I always make my appointments ahead of time by emailing them which is very convenient. My appointment was at 10 AM. once there you sign in and they go in order from when you signed in. I only had to wait for a few minutes before they called my name and I paid in cash. Then a few minutes later, the vet tech came out to my car where my fearful dog was in the back seat. Since she doesn't like other dogs, this is so convenient. But they will only do this if you only need one shot. Plenty of parking in the lot in front of the office. read more

I care so much about this place. They seem in dire straits. Understaffed and overpopulated with unwanted babies. They honestly do there best with very little resources. I especially want to give a shout out to Cathy Balentine who stuck with me from the beginning of the adoption/fostering to the very end and post adoption. I came to pick up a beautiful Great Pyrenees named Bruce at the time and she was such an incredible support for me. Every step of the way she assisted. Even post surgery she arranged instantly for Bruce to be seen when there appeared to be a medical issue. I am thankful for the SPCA for giving me such an amazing boy. Thank you! read more

I am 69, and I am disabled veteran on a low fixed income living in a small mobile home in rural Fresno County. I can no longer drive long distances, I have heart issues and I feel I am living from day to day so I cannot take in kittens that people drop off on my rural property. Sadly, when people drop of their stray and unwanted pets (because of the failures such as agencies like the ASPCA) they believing they are doing a good thing for their beloved pet. I know times are hard but abandoning a pet in rural areas is not the answer, there is no shelter, no food, not water and terrible predictors. Owls, Coyotes, Eagles, Bob Cats, packs of roaming and hungry stray dogs that some owners let out at night to hunt because they cannot feed them any more. A few weeks ago around in October, my dog passed away and her large dog house was left empty with hay. I never went in again until recently when I heard kittens. I found 7 kittens, 1 dead, 2 that had seizure issues and 4 normal healthy kittens. I began calling every place I could find on line for "Low Income Seniors" to obtain pet help. Everyone referred me back to the Central California SPCA. Yet when I called the SPCA I found a young woman that did not listen to the fact of my age, limited income or that I did not have the transportation to take the kittens anywhere. Instead the young woman was in a rush to give me a list of low cost veterinarians and refused to send anyone out to pick the kittens up stating they were mine now as I had given them care. She had not listened to one word I had stated, that I could not care for them, I did not drive long distances in more, I was low income in ill health and could not care for them. They were not mine, I found them on my property and being a humane person brought them in for safety until I could get help for them. This action according to the SPCA made me their owners/guardians. This individual did not offer to pick them up, did not offer me a discount to have the SPCA take Custody of them she cut me off cold and stated basically I would be surrendering them but offered no assistance or guidance in this area beyond a list of low cost vet offices and assumable driving them to the Shelter, which I told her I was able to do. I was so literally shocked, at the cold skewed rules of the SPCA and/or possibly their interpretation by this young person that I was truly speechless and simply hung up in disbelief. There was no offer of help for these animals no alternatives offered to me, nothing! PART OF LOVING & CARING FOR PETS IS HELPING THEIR OWNERS WHEN THEY NEED HELP PLACING THEIR PETS AND THE STRAYS DROPPED OFF IN RURAL SETTINGS. first incident Had neighbors dog in our yard killed emotional support pet, I called for dispatch came within 20-30 minutes. This time I called again same issue with neighbors dog. Hours later no one came. I reached the after hours answer service and was told to call 8 in the morning. If noone shows up. Didn't reach anyone till almost 9 today they "didn't open lines lines when they're suppose" Sounded like same lady I spoke to when I called yes r day! So much neglect in the phone lines. She never bothered to dispatch anyone yesterday !!! Omg smh!!! Meanwhile I still have dead animal in pieces back there broken fence I had to block with plywood! It's ridiculous . I had several stray cats neutered and spayed here recently. The wait list was definitely worth it due to the low costs. The staff was very friendly and efficient, despite their heavy work load. The center was very busy, but everything moved quickly. I arrived with each cat at 7 AM, completed some paperwork (which was very easy and quick), and returned at 2 PM to pick it up. One can only schedule for 2 surgeries each time. All the cats had been doing very well after their surgeries. No problem whatsoever. I went in there for the first time ever with a friend yesterday and we did adopt a pup because we couldn't stand the idea of leaving it in that place! the most depressing and disgusting facility ever. Back in 2020 I adopted a stray dog and took them here for vaccines/etc. They gave her a staff infection from using dirty equipment, and continued to say it was "nothing" even as it swelled and pussed for months. They made me play phone/email tag with them to get them to actually look at what happened which they continued to say was "nothing serious." Meanwhile an actual vet had to give her antibiotics because it was pussing green and painful to the touch. They also "dewormed her" but when taken to a real vet they said she didn't look like she had ever had it, and still had the same worms we had dewormed her for. The animals for adoption here are not well kept, and the shelter in general is in poor condition. They say they "test animals reaction" to other dogs/cats before they adopt them out, but they slide by this without even actually charting anything. A lot of the staff is rude and blatantly ignores any questions. As well- I know kill-shelters exist. But CCSPCA consistently labels any bulky looking dog breed or terrier mix as a "pitbull" (which isn't a real breed, it's a generalization of breeds used to describe any bully-breed) so they have an easier time euthanizing them due to their "aggression". They euthanize many dogs in order to keep the dogs they can adopt out for more money (you'll consistently see them with 300$ "purebred" which is bologna). Do not give money to this organization. They get grant after grant to keep their location open, but give next to nothing to the animals. Hopefully people will stop supporting them and they will have to close, and send the dogs to shelters who actually CARE about animals. Anywhere in Fresno is better than this. read more

So disappointing. The only positive thing I can say about my experience here was that the receptionist greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. She was with another customer and working on the computer, but stopped what she was doing looked me in the eye greeted me asked if she could help me, answered my question and sent me in my way with everything I needed to know! Excellent! After that my experience went downhill. The lack of wanting to help by the staff was well I guess to be expected. Everyone was too busy chatting with each other and could not be bothered to help with or answer any questions regarding the dogs. I got a dog out of her cage walked her around and no one came back to help or check on us. My purpose was to adopt a dog and add to our family, however the staff made it impossible to do so. read more

From what I hear & this is all behind the scene stuff I was told, but it is NOT a no kill shelter. It's filthy, lil baby kittens are dying and instead of taking the suck one out of the cage they leave it to possibly infect others with whatever it has. Someone showed a dog that had what looked like ticks all over it. They designate staff to be a part of the euthanizing team, which nit many last long from what I hear cuz of how many they have to put down. I know there's a lot of unwanted animals but come in they did NOT ask for this. They give so much love & ask fir nothing in return. I had my cat spayed today and I decided to re do my review for this place. It was nice in the morning and the young girl who helped me (Daisy) was sweet and helped me make sure my boyfriend was able to pick up my cat after she was done with surgery since I had work. My boyfriend picks her up and he was telling me how it was busy (which is understandable) but concerning the care of my cat it was rushed and possibly rough. My cat was clean before I took her to get surgery and she came back like they dumped her on the streets. She has matter fur for whatever reason and it seems like she has dust or dirt on her from what I can tell when petting her. I'm not sure how this happened but I wish they took better care of the pets. read more

I am an avid animal lover and I have always sacrificed my own priorities to help or save stray and lost animals. I am reluctant to leave animals at shelters for the possibility of euthanasia, however shelters can provide better hospitality and are dedicated to finding them a forever home. I hope that I have left these 8 kittens in good hands, however I can't help but feel worried. Upon walking in I immediately noticed the establishment was disorganized and messy. The young man at the front desk was not at all rude, but I He did not make me feel like these animals were in good hands. I felt like just another transaction and he did not assure me that the animals would be fine. He asked for my I.D., where I found the cats, typed a few things in, said "Okay you're good", and I just didn't feel right walking away from the cats. We adopted 2 beautiful shepherd/dachshund puppies. We love how they play and are best friends. 2 weeks later both puppies were diagnosed with Parvo. We spent almost $5,000 to save these puppies at a vet hospital. Now they're part of the family and slowly getting healthy and trained. I would not recommend rescuing puppies from here if you are looking for healthy puppies. read more

I really wish I could give the SPCA 5 stars because I love what they do and I realize that they are seriously understaffed, but some of the people employed there (especially on the "stray" side) need a serious lesson in professionalism -- and, yes, I'm talking about employees... not volunteers. On more than one occasion we've gone into the building only to find zero assistance because everyone far too engaged in their conversations to both helping. Now on to the volunteers at remote locations (for example, when they go to Petco). If you are going to volunteer to take animals to a location and try to find them homes, it might be helpful not to ignore people that are interested because you're too busy texting. It's not all bad, though, there have been a few instances where the volunteers were VERY helpful and this is the reason for 3 stars instead of two. Again, I love what they do... but I guess good people tend to be hard to find. read more

I got a very vague message about a pet of mine that was found. I thought it was a scam because it gave no details and it just said to call the number given. I didn't realize until they were closed that it is my dog that had slipped out of the fence somehow. I wish an actual human would have contacted me or left me a detailed message saying they found my dog, the color, size, etc. now he has to spend the night thinking he got left behind I'm so sad read more

About 10 years ago, I got my beloved Loki the demonic chihuahua at the CCSPCA and I can say he had an above puppy life. On 7/3/17, my best friend crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Needless to say, I have a straight 30 days of crying. To deal with his death and until I'm ready to adopt again, I immediately thought of fostering at a high kill facility like CCSPCA. So I made the call and went down to pick up and foster a 3 week old Border Collie mix. Here are the signs of what went wrong: 1) They modified the contract to my circumstance (red flag) because I told them I can't have flea and ticks due to my health. 2) They told me "no", but I was willing to try so they changed their mind. This situation should have been a hard NO! They have no hard "NO" criteria....time to change policy. 3) Did not take into consideration my health issues (i.e. You can't give a high risk heart person an animal with fleas and ticks). Once again, I would have understood a comment such as...this isn't the perfect fit because of our concern for your health. This I would have understood. 4) Lack of foster training - really a half hour training would have done wonders. Seriously, there was no training. Needless to say, after two baths, I kept finding ticks and fleas. Called the emergency number and they have NO system for an emergency pick up. I was told to crate the dog in the garage overnight....a 3 week old puppy. He ended up in the puppy tub in the tub. So this morning, I dropped off the dog who was still itching. Talk about breaking my heart again...another ugly cry. As for fostering again, it greatly depends on whether or not I have an infestation at my home and if I have side effects to my health. The systematic failure here is they don't have what I call "hard no criteria". It really could save a human life...like me, I'm just saying. read more

The only reason they're getting a star at all is because the girl that works in the barn finally made me feel heard. I think Emma was her name. We lost our pet pig a little over a month ago. I was told he was probably there the first time I called but when I went to look I was told there were no males so they wouldn't even let me look for myself. I continued to call every day for two weeks and repeatedly was told there was only females. It wasn't until 39 days after we lost him that I found him on their adoption page and was furious. I went in the next morning and was immediately told there's no pigs by the lady at the front desk. I asked if she could just look up his number since I had the adoption site pulled up on my phone... she then corrected herself and told me to go to the barn to see if it's him (I already knew it was him) I got out to see him and he ran to me as soon as he heard my voice. Then I was told I could pay $975 to take him home because of the boarding fees. Except it wasn't my fault that they continued to tell me he wasn't there. After all of that they let me take him home by readopting him for $25 because it was the "Christmas deal" My family has been heart broken for 39 days because spca couldn't tell the difference between a male and female pig. He's beyond over weight now because they were feeding a mini pig regular pig feed 2 pounds of feed a day. When he's only suppose to have 4 cups of mini feed a day. There's a puppy on the street behind us that has been crying all day and night for over a week. We called the SPCA to see what can be done, and if they could do a wellness check and make sure the puppy is ok and has food and water. The woman who called us back was SO rude and unprofessional. She was screaming in the phone and sounded like she was on drugs. Basically, the SPCA could care less about animals. After reading all the other reviews, I believe this facility should be shut down or taken over by the city of Fresno. It's outrageous that no one is doing anything about how they're running a facility we fund with our tax dollars. They need oversight and regulation! This is so sad and depressing. read more

I've heard mixed reviews about this place but let me start off by saying this place really does try and help as many animals as possible but there is only so much they can do. I've come to this location to adopt pets, drop off stray animals, put down an old pet that was in pain as our cutie aged, and even drop off donations that our community helps put together. They've been nothing but helpful. The only thing I didn't like is how it's not always as clean as it could be but then again they're dealing with a lot of animals. The smell here can be a bit overwhelming but again, there's a lot of animals so let's be reasonable now. Thank you for everything you're doing for us. They have experienced people running the show and they definitely have a better idea of the consequences resulting from careless animal housing and treatment. I often trap stray animals and take them to the SPCA. I trapped a mom and her kittens (6 of them) near Tower District Fresno...I didn't want any harm to come to them from being out in the elements and heavy traffic streets. I had a very busy and stressful day up until that point, and mistakenly gave them my mothers cross streets...well, when the smug volunteer returned, I told her the actual address near Tower District,,but, she all but accused me of lying and said they couldn't take the cats because the cross streets I gave her were in Fresno County. I repeatedly told her I made a mistake and gave her the Tower District addresss, but she would not listen, and said that I was lying. I could see the other volunteers and 1 animal control agent laughing and joking inside the building...through the glass, I could see the animal control agent feigned like he was "jump punching" someone. A very immature group of people; and not worthy of taking care of animals. I then asked to speak to the supervisor...but, he was actually repeating what the immature volunteer said. Accusing me of lying about the cats location. I told them to look at my record, I've brought in dozens of stray cats from the Tower District, always from the same address. But, instead of listening, he kept repeating the same thing about conflicting information. The volunteers went way beyond the scope of their job descriptions by determining that I must be lying, but, the supervisor, instead of correcting the problem, emboldened these volunteers to believe they were correct in their logic...and to continue to assess whether people bring in stray cats are lying. If a person trips up one time in their words, label them as liars and reject. If I have the correct identification and paperwork but make a mistake and then correct it as soon as possible, they should've taken my word. Instead, they got on a power trip and determined that I'm a liar, and rejected a young mother and her 6 nearly helpless kittens. I told the supervisor that what he was doing was very wrong, ethically and morally. And gave him a few choice words that I can't repeat here. read more

This place is a joke. My fiancé and I went in looking for a puppy. We picked one out and the employee let us play with and fall in love with the puppy just for us to go up to the front to adopt him and be told that the puppy was on hold for someone else and they just forgot to put the notice on the cage. We were then told he had been on hold since yesterday (Saturday) and the person who had him on hold wasn't going to pick him up until Monday and that there were 2 other people ahead of us if we wanted to be put on a wait list in case the person holding him backed out. This place is supposed to put the wellbeing of these animals first. These animals need homes. 3 people would've likely taken this puppy home that day if not for this place holding a puppy for THREE days for someone just because the person "said he really was interested in the puppy." This is disgraceful. Not to mention the fact that it contradicts their website which says adoptions are on a first come first serve basis and if several people are interested in the same dog they will use a lottery system. Put the animals first. Quit holding them for DAYS for people just because they are supposedly "really interested." read more

They came to pick up a injured opossum at my home. All I had to do was put a box over it so it was contained. SPCA sent out a very nice Latino man to pick the opossum up. When he lifted the box that I had put over it, we discovered it was a she. She had a baby with her that was on the ground and two in her pouch. Anyhow this man was a very kind animal rescuer. Very caring and polite to me and the opossum. read more

Visited this location a few times, was thankful to find a puppy to adopt and bring into a happy household. Unfortunate that people get these animals and when they are unable to provide for them its so easy to drop off, I find that heart breaking. My boyfriend and I went to the CCSPCA last Thursday and adopted an 8 week old Shepard mix. From Friday-Monday afternoon she was a normal energetic, curious, loving puppy. But by Monday evening she started throwing up and throughout the evening threw up almost 10 times. By early next morning she started having diarrhea and was very lethargic. We immediately took her to the vet that afternoon and she was diagnosed with Parvo. Luckily we caught it very early and within a day, after spending the night at 24/7 Per Vets, she came home and is back to normal. The CCSPCA does have a policy that if the animal has a life threatening disease there is a refund/exchange policy, which is nice but we fell in love with her by Friday. When adopting her we had the option to pay for extra tests, but Parvo was not one of them. I understand they can't test every animal, but why not offer it during the beginning for the adopters to pay for? And why not quarantine the animals before they are up for adoption to gage for parvo symptoms? Our pup and her 7 siblings were brought in Thursday and immediately were up for adoption without quarantine. Both our vet and 24/7 Per Vets stated they immediately test any dog that comes from the CCSPCA due to high risk of Parvo from the shelter. Thankfully she is doing well and recovering nicely, but our only wish is that if it's known this is an issue that the CCSPCA would do more than offer a exchange/refund policy. Overall, the staff were what made the review 2 stars and the fact we got a pup we love so dearly from there. But overall the facility was disgusting. My boyfriend had a tick jump on him, we noticed multiple huge rats in the kennels, and the smell was awful. On top of that, we are unable to bathe her, since she was just spayed, for 7-12 days and she is dirty and reeks of the kennels--puppy wipes only do so much. With the money the company receives more should be done for the animals and adopters We informed the CCSPCA immediately of her diagnosis so the other adopters of 7 pups in her litter could hopefully be notified and take them in if able. Our hope is that they also have the chance to have this caught early. read more
