I've never been to a dog park that has fans. I also noticed there was a sign that said the Westside coffee shop inside the church delivers directly to the park. Talk about spoiled! Overall, the park is good. A little grassy with some mud/soil spots. Large enough for all dogs to run around. There's a small section for the little doggies too. This dog park is provided by a church, Central Commons, which is extremely kind of them. When you arrive at the church you'll want to head to the rear of the building where there is more parking and the dog park itself. Almost the entire dog park is shaded which I imagine is amazing in the summer. I also see they have numerous large fans for summertime use as well as poo bags, trash cans and loads of chairs, tables and benches. We live out of state and have visited the park four times now and have found all dogs and owners to be friendly and I've seen no aggression or dangerous dogs on any visit. The church and park are surrounded by an upper-middle-class neighborhood and I imagine these folks make up for most of the patrons. I would absolutely visit this park again if I were to be in this area. It's in a very safe location and well-kept. read more

Absolutely amazing the people that hang out at this dog park. I have a Small dog and when I went in to the park there was one small dog it was in the pen by itself so I decided o place my dog in the pen with that dog and the dog was aggressive and attacked my dog numerous times. I heard the owner say to somebody else did she just let my dog out? And I said no I was putting my dog in the pan and it attacked mine. It happened right as I was putting the dog in the pen and he attacked my dog in the entryway over and over again. He knew his dog was aggressive and he justified putting it into the small dogs pen because his dog becomes aggressive over time. I told him " i've never been to this park so I wouldn't know nothing about anyone's dogs here, and an aggressive dog is not supposed to be in a dog park". Any time I have seen a small dog in a pan by itself and a dog part it has never been because it was aggressive it's usually because it's been attacked so they put the small dog back into the small pan. This dog was a small pit ball and a very aggressive dog if you have a small dog do not take it to this park at all. The people that were friends with the owner were rude to me trying to get into the pen because I have no place to put my dog at the point that I ended up leaving. Rude rude rude people with aggressive dogs. Snobs.... funny thing is they wear a facade and my dog has more class and better dog friends then they are capable of raising. read more

It's so nice that the church next door provides this space. Large area to play. Plenty of seating for humans. Some fun ramps for dogs to run up on. Poop clean station. Water bowls. Some rocky areas instead of grass, but my dogs still loved it all the same. Thank you for this! read more

I initially loved coming to this park. I live less than a mile away so it was easy. A beautiful space that id well maintained. HOWEVER, what a cliquish group of stereotypical Highland Park snobs. There are a few nice folks but unfortunately not in the majority. I'm 72 and some younger guy got in my face and tried to lecture me on how he felt I should handle my dog. And not in a nice way. I miss the park...but the snobs...not so much. And I was doing a monthly donation to the park. I had even considered going to a service at the church to see how it was. I have a longer drive to a park now, but to avoid those gossipy people .it is worth it. read more

After reading reviews, I was a bit skeptical of taking my new pup here. The location is super close to my home & I was recommended this park by multiple people! Finally, I took a chance and went around 2p. It wasn't too busy which was perfect for my (timid) new pup. The park is SO clean and the regular patrons take great pride in keeping it clean. Yes.. I witnessed some cliquish behavior among patrons, but everyone was incredibly friendly & welcoming. I've made some great new friends here and so has my lil guy "gus". Horrible. All the bad reviews are completely true. We brought our dog in here for the first time and she was immediately attacked. We were screaming for the owners to come grab their dog and they just walked over. I have never been more upset and disappointed. I just cannot believe anyone would let their dog do that. But don't worry, when we confronted the owner they told us "you get a pass" since this is your first time here. Now my dog is getting stitches. read more

I went there for the first time yesterday and my puppy had a great time. All the dogs there were super friendly which is great because my pup is only 6 months old and still learning his manners. There were people at the table sitting together talking who I assume are the "circle" regulars a few people here mentioned. They were very friendly to us I didn't feel weird at all. I asked if all the dogs that were there were ok with rambunctious puppies before I came in and they were super nice. They invited my husband and I to join them but I like to make the rounds with my pup since that's what his trainer advises. There was plenty of shade and stray tennis balls. Cooling fans and a rinse off station. My only complaint and it's a small one is this- the smaller dog section is WAY to small. It's about the size of my tiny kitchen lol. Maybe for a tea cup breed it would be ok. So if you're squeamish about letting your dog play with bigger dogs you might skip this place. I'm still a helicopter parent when it comes to who my pup plays with because he's still young and he's an "in your face" Jack Russell. So I will be very careful about him playing here if I notice doggy body language that Im not comfortable with. But all in all this is a great dog park and I'm happy it's there. read more

I have only been here once and I enjoyed it. Dogs are all sweet and the people all sit in a circle because it is easier to have a conversation that way ... Not because they are gossiping. This is probably not the best place to introduce your dogs to other dogs. Probably best to socialize your pet a little before you being them here. Overall I enjoyed my time here. read more

Dallas has some really great dog parks, and while this one is alright and I appreciate the fact the the church that owns the property allows it, just be prepared that it is not in running for one of Dallas' best dog parks. My biggest criticism would be the size of the small dog park. Luckily I have a big dog, but if I had a small one, this would not be a choice for us. I have read reviews that said the regulars were not welcoming, however I did not experience that. They did congregate together, but I was quickly invited into the circle and felt comfortable with everyone. But, given the setting and attention on each other, people probably do not watch their dogs close enough like they should when your dogs are socializing around people and other animals. read more

After reading the previous review, I felt obligated to write a review as well. As someone who has been using this dog park for my dogs and my clients dogs for years, I tend to agree with her assessment of a few bad apples. But don't let the few discourage you. The park is for everyone. That said this is the best dog park I have found in this city despite the few self-important nobodies that use the grade school swing set, I was here first mentality.. Sadly, every dog park has its hall monitors, gossips and "poop Nazis" and Central is no different. There will always be squatters who lay claim to things that don't actually belong to them, It is just a encapsulated slice of our city. The great majority of the people present are great..their dogs are great. Sooo..let's just play nice, ok? Now the review.. Central Dog Park is everything you can expect or want from a dog park. 1) Convenient: This dog park is a short hop from just about any part of Dallas. If you live in North Dallas, Addison, Oak Cliff, Uptown, Downtown etc..you are just a 10-15 minute drive. So come on down. 2) Shaded: One of the best parts is the shade. This park is filled with huge live oak and other trees that shade 75% of the grounds 3) Running water: Need I say more. 4) Plenty of Parking: No more fighting through runners and bikers 5) Safe: park is completely fenced with no gaps or giant cracks in the soil. .Save for the fire pit in the winter( um hello) your dog will leave worn out but unscathed. 6) Clean: No garbage and the majority of people pick up after their dogs. 7) Available to EVERYONE: Despite the location just outside of Highland Park, this Park is in DALLAS which means it isn't exclusive, despite what some would have you believe. The church wants everyone not just a select few. Finally, when I first met Tod the church's pastor six years ago, he and I discussed the idea of the dog park. He wanted it to be a place where dogs and their people could come together and share their love of dogs and of each other. Sadly, Tod has moved on but his park is still shared by many of wonderful people and their beloved pets.. So I encourage you to come on over, bring your pooches, then sit back and enjoy the wonderfulness of dogs. This place is the best and I encourage you to share it with all of your friends, family & coworkers who have dogs. P.S. If you can, drop a donation off to the church for the park when. Wow. I didn't know The Circle was such a thing. I live nearby and come here often. The park is shady and since they installed the decomposed granite the mud is mostly kept to a minimum and you can bring your dog a day after it rains. Here is my experience with The Circle. I always bring a book with me, so from my first visit I sat away from them and read. When they noticed I was there often, they would ask me about my dog and would talk to me (even if sometimes I didn't want to). They eventually invited me to sit with them all since it became apparent I wasn't going to invite myself. Now, sometimes I sit with them and sometimes I don't, and I rarely bring a book unless I have to work in something. Sometimes I just run around with the dogs. Nobody minds if I sit with everyone or some days don't talk to any of them. To me, they seem pretty nice. read more

I am so torn when it comes to Central Dog Park. Nestled in a nice neighborhood behind a church, this dog park seems to always have a steady flow of dogs coming to play. The fence is maintained and tall so you dont have to worry about your pup slipping out when you aren't looking and there are several bowls and a hose for water. There are big trees that provide shade for the dogs and humans alike and ample parking. Two areas for the dogs - one for larger and one for smaller are here, connected by one main gate. In my few years going here I have never seen anyone use the small dog area - usually everyone just runs around in the main one. With that said, the dog owners at central dog partk are SO cliquey. They sit in circles and gossip about the other people and the dogs running around - heaven forbid one of the dogs actually do its business and it takes you more than 2 seconds to notice. I love the concept of this dog park, its just such a shame that the people that come here ruin it for the pups! read more

If you read these reviews, you will consistently see references to the clique. The group of owners who regularly come; they sit together and chat. The problem is, they do not watch their dogs and allow their dogs to start fights, and bully other dogs. I have been to this dog park many times. The last two times were very unpleasant. Today, Several fights broke out, not one of these people got up to control their dogs. If you can't control your dog by voice, then you should be able physically able to get up and assist if your dog is attacking other dogs. I got up three times to pull my dog from the mess started by their unruly dogs. NOT ONE of these owners did anything. In particular, a medium tan dog bit my dog just as I was pulling her out of a fight. Later the owner, said I needed to leave! She accused my dog of starting the fight. She was 50 yards away sitting on her butt, and claims to have a better idea of what was happening than me when I was 2 ft away! She's an older lady, drives a red Beetle, and had a tan unkempt dog. If you see her or her car, I would recommend turning around and leaving. She and her dog are a liability waiting to happen. read more

There are a few regulars that you will find almost every morning .Everyone has allways been very nice to me and my pit bull and pug . This is an excellent dog park with a great group of people and friendly dogs. I would encourage newcomers to pull up a chair and join the "circle". Folks are sitting in a circle not to keep people out, but so they can see each other when they talk. We found them very welcoming from our first visit. There are plenty of chairs and shaded places to sit if you aren't in a conversational mood. Our Sam has been coming here for about six months. He is a year old now. He has made many dog friends and gotten plenty of exercise running, chasing squirrels, and wrestling with his friends. There are dogs of all types here, from quiet to very playful. Came here for the first time today. People who knew each other were very "clique". About 20 mins in, someone shows up with a pit bull. Pit bull got aggressive and started to pin my 9lb chorkie to the ground, and started nipping at him at his neck. Another dog started in on him as well, assuming the pit instigated the behavior. Owner of pit was busy and was not watching his dog when this was happening. A Samaritan closer to the aggression, managed to pull the pit bull off, as I made my way over. Nearby, in the center of the park sat a pair of young women and and older couple... the young women decided that the dogs were "just playing" and one kept saying that as loudly as she could, downplaying the incident. 1. My dog doesn't whine when he's playing and 2. When I managed to pick my dog up, I looked at his entire body and found a flesh wound the size of my fingernail near his hind leg. So, unless you are certain about dog behaviors, and perhaps are certified in understanding said behavior, I suggest you STFU, just like the bystander told you to, you entitled self righteous bitch. To the owner of the pit bull, would be nice for you to train your dog to not be so aggressive towards other dogs before you take him to a public dog park. and perhaps, if you do, make sure you're watching him at all times and don't act so surprised to hear your dog attacking another! Several people witnessed it. I've seen you walking around uptown and if I run into you again, I'll be sure to shame you... you're lucky I didn't call the police or animal services. read more

Love this park for its convenience, plenty of toys, space and its usually loaded with pups for my dog to run around with. I do like that they have a separate small dog pen, but it's not always used when it should be (your 20lb dog may like big dogs, but that doesn't mean he can hang with the big boys). There is a group of regulars that hang out here, but they've all been pretty nice in my experience. The crowd's pretty diverse and I've met some nice people every time I've visited. Of course, I'm usually too occupied keeping an eye out for my dog to not get in the almost constant mud pit to socialize too much. Occasionally you will get the genius that brings in food and drink and can't figure out why all the dogs are clamoring on them - but that's typical for any dog park. My one true problem with the park is actually with one of the dogs that's almost always there - Biscuit. Apparently he escapes constantly from his owner's house and good samaritans drop him off at the dog park. He is an alpha and spends the bulk of his time trying to hump every other dog. This usually ends with one dog getting fed up, growling and snapping back and the rest of the dogs in the park getting riled up. read more

I love this park because it is within walking distance and there is always a supply of tennis balls and ball throwers to keep my pup occupied. The space is enough to throw the ball and there's a separate space for the small dogs (which I've never seen anyone use). The first few times I went, I felt out of the loop because everyone else literally sits in a circle. But it doesn't bother me because I am too busy keeping my dog occupied and away from the water bowls where he gets muddy. And one time, there were only 2 other people and those people were actually friendly. I wouldn't NOT take my dog to the park just because the people aren't super social. The main negative that I noticed is that because people are talking to each other, they don't see when their dogs are humping other dogs or bothering them. read more

This might be my new favorite dog park...if only it was closer to my house. I was meeting a friend to pick up my pup and suggested Central Dog Park because it was close to work, and I read an article about it in the DMN. After I got a little turned around from bad Yelp directions, I was delighted to see such a nice space that is perfect for owners and their pets. We talked to several regulars who knew the others dogs names and personalities which made it feel more like a little community. There was plenty of comfy seating and lots of toys for the dogs to play with. We spent over two hours here which rarely happens at other parks. Overall, I'm glad we got to check this park out and will probably make the trip out here again when we want to spend an afternoon here. read more

This dog park is not for kids. My 6 year old was attacked by a dog last week, his back is seriously scratched up and bruised. He was face down in the dirt as I tried to rescue him from these dogs. The owners? Well they like to play cards at a table and not watch their dogs. The dog owner did not apologize or check to see how my son was feeling. He was screaming in pain. I am a new dog owner and learning things by trial and error. My son was not running or anything to provoke this attack. On another day I went alone and there was a pit-bull mix there. The owner? Today was my first visit to Central Dog Park. My dogs and I loved it. I've been searching for a good dog park in the Bluffview/Park Cities area. The people were very nice, the dogs were tons of fun.
