I wanted to share an update after my earlier review regarding an incident my dog Ziggy experienced here during a grooming visit. When I recently had to travel last-minute, I boarded Ziggy at Downtown Dog. Upon pickup, the owner, Gwen, asked to speak with me directly. She was very open and sincere about what had happened previously -- apologizing, explaining the corrective actions taken with staff, and sharing broader improvements coming to DTD. She even covered Ziggy's recent stay, which I greatly appreciated. For me, it's less about the incident itself (I understand accidents can happen) and more about transparency and how quickly a facility acts in the best interest of the dog. Gwen understood that completely and has clearly taken it to heart. I'd encourage anyone who's had a tough experience here to reach out directly -- Gwen and her team do care, and they also give back by supporting local rescue agencies. Downtown Dog really does have a lot of great people behind it, and I'm glad I gave them another shot. read more

My dog suffered emergency bloat and passed Christmas morning in 2024. DD staff was caring for him at the time of his emergency and they neglected to contact me until several hours after his first symptom. He was hospitalized a total of 3 times with 2 major surgeries due to the severity of his case. My family now has $30,000 in medical debt. When I tried to settle some responsibility with the owner, they admitted fault and that another dog died from the same condition a few years prior. In later conversations their CPS waved their waiver in my face and threatened she could tell me to F off. Then they stopped all communications except to their insurance adjuster, who tried to dismiss their refusal to cooperate as my fault because I was upset my dog died. They took NO responsibility after I trusted them with Yohji for most of his life (7 years). They are also suppressing negative reviews on Google. I have posted further details in the Dallas subreddit, please share my story and I would not trust the owners to care for your family members and take responsibility for any repercussions that may ensue. This is the worst loss I have ever experienced and I miss him everyday. God forbid an emergency happens at DD, because ownership will leave you in the dust. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THEIR SAFETY!! The reviews from other concerned people are accurate. There were no problems in the beginning, but the last 3 visits have been horrible. My dog was bit in the face and came home with dried blood on him. The staff didn't mention it, but I noticed it immediately when picking him up. When I asked them about it they said they didn't notice any altercation and he must have rubbed up against something on his last day there? He was there for 10 days and you could tell the dried blood had been there for multiple days when I picked him up. Plus when a dog gets bit like that, it's not done quietly. The next visit he came home with kennel cough that turned into pneumonia. When I dropped him off for his visit everything was normal, and when I picked him up, there was a sign up front saying to not bring any sick dogs in, so there must have been a dog with kennel cough already there. Anyone could've noticed a dog with kennel cough that bad given how loud my poor dog was coughing, choking and inverse sneezing constantly while he was struggling to breathe. Once again, they didn't say anything. The last visit I took him, he came home with a UTI, which he has only ever had once in 6 years, and an ear infection. The first visit I thought was a one off, the second visit seemed like a coincidence, but this is clearly not the case. I have spent over $3,000 on vet bills due to the issues from these last two visits. Avoid this place. read more

They said I would receive a refund in 5 business days, and I never did. They refused to assist with vet bills "as they are not liable for whatever happens to my dog at their facility". They had the audacity to say at boarding my dog was fine and showed no signs of distress, but she was distraught when I saw her after boarding. I came here for the first time for their pet grooming service. I met Amy, and she was fantastic. Amy asked me what services I wanted, and I told her I wasn't sure, but let her know about Hunter and the problem he had (overheating and itching). Amy helped me saved money by telling me I could just go for a fewer services for a cheaper price, which I did. I picked up Hunter after 2 hours of grooming and met with Amy again. Amy told me about the areas for the flea bites and cleaned up Hunter completely. Amy went above and beyond to groom Hunter and was nice enough to help me to save some $$ for services that I don't need. Hunter loves his new scarfs as well! We decided to board our two year old silver lab, Chance, when we travelled to Colorado this week on vacation. When we picked him up after 6 days we found that he had multiple bite marks and bleeding from his wounds. This is completely unacceptable when we took him there in perfect condition. They also were requested to give him a bath the day we were picking him up, which was today, and they completely missed it. Take a look at the pictures we took of him when we gave him a bath today and you will see what I mean. We consider Chance like family and to see him with so many bite makes says that Downtown Dog does not have any oversight or just completely ignorant about caring about your pets. We would NEVER take our dog there and if anyone of you care to take your dog there for boarding, we would warn you about your pet. This same thing happened to my brother's dog that is also a silver lab two weeks ago and I thought it was a rare incident. Obviously, this does not seem to be the case. My dog Thor has been going here about once or twice a week while we've been getting adjusted to moving to Dallas recently and he always comes home with a smile on his face AND tired- which means he played all day! 5 years later, and now living 12 miles from Downtown, the love for Downtown Dog is still going strong. My babies love going there, and DTD has shown me in numerous ways that they're safe in their hands. I have to share - when my beloved Marshall went to the big dog park in the sky, they gave me a little book of poetry about dogs that all the staff had signed. In it they wrote notes to him, like 'Marshall, thank you for being my friend.' It just about killed me to read, but it meant a lot. read more

The website was down and I had to call over six times to get someone to not only answer me, but tell me they will forward me to the paperwork I needed to fill out. I never received that email even after calling and speaking to the same woman twice about sending me the email. The perk of this place it the price but PLEASE hire better front desk staff. They are causing you to lose business. No one ever calls you regarding your application and the phone is always passed off to someone else to "call you back". read more

My review is on grooming. I used to love this place, Carolyn was the bomb at leaving my shitzu-mix, Bichon looking dog like a teddy bear/stuffed animal. This pushed me to brush more often than usual because I knew if I could keep him unknotted they would do that amazing thing they do. I stopped taking him for a bit under a year because he kept coming home shaved. I recently got a new dog and thought I would give them a try. This time 2 dogs. I knew 1 was going to have to be shaved but I explicitly said to save as much as they could on Teddy because we love his fur.. apparently they could not because he came back shaved I took them with hopes that something would change... well it did not. My furry friend came back once more shaved! My husband threw a fit when he picked him up because he told me not to shave him. Not only is it cold, we are traveling and taking them with us and we wanted our family to see him like a Teddy Bear. Downtown Dog charges $45 for full grooming, which is pretty inexpensive compared to other places I've been in the past months but I rather pay for my dogs to look good then for them to get shaved everytime. If they don't know how to deal with the furr I rather them tell me than to just shave him... I am so sad and mourning the lost of his hair! I let it grow and took care of it for over 4 months. My dog has been coming here for about 4-5 years now. We tried other places but once I found this places we never went anywhere else. She loves going to daycare and gets super excited when I tell her we are going. I've used their boarding services numerous times as well with no issues.i should note that my furry baby is a small dog so small dogs do not get kennel until feeding. They get to stay out all day in their room to play and sleep. I love this especially when I board her for several days. I can trust that she isn't locked up all day. Also, she a slight handful. We take our dachshund and she seems to love it. She's usually well taken care of, no scratches or anything. i LOVE this place. And so does Bruno! Here is why Downtown Dog is awesome: (1) Massive play area with regimented play/sleep schedule: 10,000 square feet outside and 5,000 square feet inside. There are multiple play areas and each group of dogs (based on size and tempermant) are rotated throughout each of them during the day. Nap time is from 12-1:30, so cute! (2) Affordable. Only $12/day for daycare! The cheapest outdoor daycare I've been able to find. Never tried it, but I think it's an additional $10 for overnight. (3) Friendly staff. The first time I went to DTD, they called me mid-day to let me know how Bruno had been playing with the other dogs. They love your dog as much as you do. :) (4) Grooming. For an extra $20, they'll bathe your pup before your scheduled pick up time so that he/she will be all fresh for your arrival. The only thing I would suggest is video cameras to be installed so you can watch your dog play. It has a "boutiquey" feel which to me is way more preferable than a bigger more corporate style place. They send your pup on his or her way with a handmade bow or bandana which is really cute. I tried DownTown Dog for the first time today. I had been to another place, but they didn't seem to have patience for me or my dog Winnie and didn't treat her well. As soon as I gave Winnie over to the lady to be groomed, I could tell this place was better. This lady (Chelsey?) let Winnie take her time and be comfortable walking forward instead of yanking her forward. She let Winnie sniff around too to get familiar. When I came back, Winnie looked great! Her hair was very even and the exact length I had asked for. She didn't have any unexpected charges and accepted a card, so that made payment easy. This is a good place... however every time I have picked my dog up he's either scraped, scratched or has some type of cut. At first I thought it was a one time thing but it's happened several times. The staff is real nice, but the place isn't the cleanest. I've taken my time to comment on this place because I wanted to see what other boarding places were like. I will say there are other day care and boarding places that invest more in to their establishment and you end up spending the same amount of money. Sure, it's the small things but it's your fur kid. One of the things I liked about this place initially was the ability to drop my pup off right away if needed. Now you have to book far in advance and that's been a big deterrent in dropping him off now. Location is great if you live downtown. Finally - I would suggest a bit more transparency with the actual facility. When compared to other boarding and day care places that's something I've come to value a lot. Offer a new guest a tour. Our great dane would definitely rather be at downtown dog than at home! Anytime we pull up to daycare he just loses it with happiness. We had actually started daycare services at Abbie's dog daycare on Belmont but after THE 4TH injury that vet visits and multiple stitches due to their facilities not being very safe we decided we needed to find another spot. It's been over a year and he's doing great at downtown dog. Their prices are also very reasonable for daycare and boarding and they offer special rates if you have any foster pets. My dog attended daycare here three days a week for about two months before I stopped bringing him. This place is great in proximity to my apartment and work and I was satisfied with their pricing. Before his first day, I toured, signed all the papers and provided his vaccination records (although later they were not found in the system and I had to provide them again). Everything was good to go. I was told since he was small he would be apart of the "kitchen crew," which are a group of small dogs that are watched by the supervisor. This made me feel more at ease about leaving him. I know he had some good play time outside because he always went right to sleep in the car on the way home. His first incident was a dog bite on his ear. I was told the staff doctored it and I cleaned it at home as well. I understand he is small and things happen, so I let him continue daycare. His next incident had him using only three legs. It broke my heart to see him hopping when I picked him up. I was told a dog no bigger than him bit his foot. As this was his second incident in two months, I questioned whether he was in the kitchen crew at all, and if so, who is actually attending them. After three days he was still hopping on three legs and he went to the vet on Monday to receive an antibiotic and pain meds. The vet questioned if he had been bitten by a dog since the area looked more like an insect bite. One of the daycare releases says the owner is responsible for any harm caused by their pet, so I called to ask for the pet owner's information to see about getting reimbursed for the vet bill. Downtown Dog was nice enough to reimburse me for the bill themselves. I hated to pull my pup out of daycare but his safety comes first. read more

I'll preface this by saying that my dog Pippa has been going to Downtown Dog for about a year and a half for daycare and a few times a month for boarding. Prior to the most recent time, I've never had any other problems. Unfortunately, this past experience was bad enough where I'll never go back. Pippa was brought in with a very small cut on her nose that she had been picking at, so I asked that for the first 24-48 hours she stay up front in her cone to prevent infection. Apparently they viewed that as leaving her unattended in the kitchen. When I picked her up, it was not only clear that she had never been out to play with the other dogs (over a 6 day period), but she also had a gigantic welt on on her tail and a two inch hot spot. The welt was extremely bloody & infected and had clearly been there for multiple days (verified by the vet). No one at the boarding facility mentioned anything about the welt or hotspot - I noticed when I got in the car. The next day I called Downtown Dog to let them know that I'd be canceling my upcoming reservation due to the injury. They mentioned that they didn't know what I was talking about and would have the owner call me back. That night, the owner called back and left a VM. She mentioned that numerous dogs have hot spots at Downtown Dog right now, and they've been on the lookout. She mentioned that these things can happen in less than an hour, but that still doesn't excuse the fact that they didn't even mention anything to me when I picked up Pippa. Not only that, but due to the severity of Pippa's injury (coupled with the vet mentioning it had been like that for a few days), I would have expected a phone call had Downtown Dog noticed it. I tried to call her back and left her a VM, but never heard back. After this experience (and the $120 of boarding fees + $150 of vet bills), I'll never board my dog with Downtown Dog again. I've spent thousands at Downtown Dog, including boarding almost every other week, and I'd expect a little more attentiveness both from a customer service standpoint and care given to my dog. I would much rather take my business to someone that gives her personal attention rather than locking her in a back room. I wouldn't suggest anyone use Downtown Dog in the future. EDIT: After this post, Downtown Dog sent me a shockingly rude letter to my home address. They called my vet pretending to be me so they can get medical records (I called the vet to make sure they weren't giving out records to anyone other than myself). They wrote me a full page letter blaming me and saying my dog was clearly not on flea/tick prevention because I picked up refills while I was at the vet getting her checked from her injury. Her prevention was NOT expired, but rather would be expired in two weeks or so, so I decided to go ahead and pick it up while I was there. They also said that I didn't notice the hot spot until a full 24 hours after leaving Downtown Dog, so it must have happened after I got home. This is simply not true - I noticed it immediately, but wanted to get a vet's opinion prior to calling Downtown Dog so I had more details. When I saw the vet less than 24 hours after leaving Downtown Dog, he said the hot spot had been there for multiple days and was infected. I am completely shocked and appalled that Downtown Dog would send a letter blaming me for their mistakes. I would suggest everyone stay far away from this establishment. read more

When I switched positions in my company to a role that would require me to travel a lot more, the only thing holding me back from being ecstatic was the thought of having to board my pup more. Two simultaneous thoughts I had were "this is going to cost a lot" and more importantly, the guilty "my pup is going to think he's an orphan". Enter: Downtown Dog. I tried a few other boarding places before finding this gem and I gotta say, DD is the best place in Dallas hands down. The staff is super friendly, they take excellent care of Atticus, it's clean and the best part is the guilt-free feeling of dropping my little guy off when he's so excited to be there. The prices are incredibly competitive for this area and while the location isn't ideal, it is still very convenient and I've never felt unsafe. I have already recommended this place to several friends and will continue to do so!! read more

I love this place. LOVE. LOVE!!!! I can't believe I haven't reviewed it, probably because I spread the news of Downtown Dog like the town crier to anyone who will listen, and I just assumed I had already written one at this point. My lovely little Alice is an energetic girl. She's a mutt, and we know she's part lab but we also think she's part greyhound. Basically, she's fast as all hell. When I take her to the dog park, the first thing she normally does is run in giant circles around the perimeter like she's trying to win the Kentucky Derby against herself. It's exhausting just watching her. But knowing that what my furbaby wants to do more in this world is run and jaunt and wrestle around, I hated taking her to those daycares that were mostly indoor and small. She'd have a good time, but it never wore her out like Downtown Dog does. The place is HUGE! But the real thing that sold me is the fact that she damn near rips my arm off every time I try to get out of the car. When I take her to other places, she walks nicely, wags her tail, and then tries to jump up and kiss people's face. But generally, she'll still look sad when they take her back and I leave. Maybe she'll even give a wistful bark or two. Oh, but not at DTD. She can't get away from me fast enough. She throws her tail back and forth so hard she nearly knocks herself over from excessive butt-wagging. And then when I come to pick her up, she looks sad to leave! Is this what it feels like to have a real child who decided you're not cool anymore?! I rue the day. This is the ONLY place we board her. ONLY. And honestly, I'd take her to daycare more, but this momma is not a morning person and I'm lucky if I get to work on time(ish) as it is, without having to add a stop to drop her off along the way. Like I said - I am a huge proponent of this place. Everyone I've recommended to go there has come back with glowing reviews telling me it's the best place they've ever found for boarding and/or daycare. Oh, and bonus - they post pictures of your little ones! I think they post a group of photos about once a week on their Facebook page, and even videos sometimes. So if you're out of town and wishing you had your furry little mini-me to cuddle with, you can at least watch or see them having a great time, and then you won't feel like a horrible pet-parent for stranding them. So I have this dog... he's more a roommate than an animal I own. He's coming up on 11 and we are apprehensive about leaving him anywhere, ever. But inevitably occasions arise where we have to put him with someone other than family. Downtown dog is now family to us and any anxiety about leaving him is considerably relieved by their professional, thoughtful approach to care that we experienced. Initially, they asked we bring Cash - our roomy - down to see if he was a fit for A four hour evaluation period; Is he a bad neighbor, does he make others uncomfortable, etc... A good idea in any case, evidence of a smart organization. Apparently he passed and was invited back for a longer stay. The staff was totally in tune, calling Cash by name and handing him off between them like buddies at a picnic. I was impressed with this encounter and at ease with placing Cash in their care for a longer period, commencing a few days after. I picked up Cash after his stay, washed, combed, and happy. During the period we were contacted daily with updates of his status which reassured me greatly while we were gone. I gave Downtown Dog 5 stars for their grooming awhile back, but after my negative experience boarding my pup there, I will not be going back for any service. I boarded Samson for 2 nights while I was out of town on a business trip. When I got to the airport 30 minutes after dropping him off, I received a call that they would need to give my dog a bordatella vaccine booster. I called my vet to ask if this was necessary and she said it was not and that he was covered for another few months, but that a booster wouldn't hurt him. As I was already at the airport and did not have time to make other arrangements, I allowed them to give him the vaccine. When I picked him up two days later, they charged me nearly $100 - more than twice the amount I was quoted when I dropped him off. The lady checking me out was very vague, mumbled something about the bath they gave him (I was under the impression when I dropped him off that a simple bath was included - apparently I should have gotten that in writing), the vaccine, and some other add-on's I was not informed of. When I pressed for more information the woman stormed off, leaving someone else to who was similarly unhelpful to finish my transaction. I did not receive an itemized receipt to verify all that I had paid for but was so flustered by the poor treatment and the high price, I hurried out without demanding one. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1 is because my dog came home in one piece. read more

Ok, so let me first say that some of the negative reviewers on here have valid points. Yes, the location looks and feels sketchy if you live in Uptown or are from North Dallas. The area is very typical of this part of downtown, gotta have an open mind about it. First time my pups where there they came home very muddy and dirty, that part of the reviews are also true. I have had to take my pups to daycare for almost everyday this past year due to my work schedule and used to use fantastic facilities that I miss dearly in the Carrollton area (you can see those reviews on my profile). Moving recently to Oak Cliff I found Downtown Dog to be the closest from work/home. The staff here cares. They really do. They are nice, knowledgeable, and you can just tell love dogs. I was referred to Downtown Dog by my friend Gina P. She is real involved with her dogs and has used several places for boarding and doggie day cares, so I trust her input. I did lots of my own research before deciding on Downtown Dog too. 1) indoor and outdoor play areas, and when I say outdoor, I mean REAL outdoor like with grass and trees and stuff :) not just concrete 2) locally owned and operated, not a corporate or franchise gig 3) affordable 4) they love dogs and know proper dog communications and trainings Took Burma Shave, our one and only child who is in need of exercise and other kid involvements, to daycare yesterday and I am in love with Downtown Dog :) I was nervous because Burma has never done this before and she is almost 4, she is pretty stuck in being an only child. But, they called me halfway through the day and let me know how Burma was doing. THEN when I picked her up she was so happy and they told me that she played well and had a good time. This is a great place. Not for me personally, but for my friends that are dogs. It's HUGE with plenty of room for everyone to play, eat, and sleep. They do day care, boarding, and grooming. This place is the dog's knees!! Seriously, they know exactly how to make any dog the happiest. Abby, my dog isn't always the most social with other dogs, when she is around me or at the dog park. She's dominate and loves to size up and try to fight with other dominate dogs, but that's only when she is with me. I was blown away with the two times she's been at Downtown Dog. The first time was a tryout to see how she would do with a pack of dogs in a strange place. She loved it and had so much fun, came home ate and slept the whole night! The second time was when she spend the night when my boyfriend and myself spent an evening in downtown Ft. Worth. We dropped her off in the morning with her food and her bed. She was so excited to be there. Since she needed it, they gave her a bordetella vaccine when she arrived for $15. I'm lucky to have a friend that works there, she sent me a text later in the day that Abby took the meds very well, had a treat and she's running around and playing outside with her pack and she looks like she's always smiling. That message brought the biggest smile to my face. Not only do the staff pay a great deal of attention to how the dogs interact with one another, they also don't lock them up in individual pins each night. They have about an acre of land for them to play in and the sleeping arrangements are socially wonderful. They have a huge area to sleep in and an open cage if each dog so chooses to go in one. Abby's cage was left open with her option to sleep on the futon or in her bed. She was so worn out that she slept right in her bed in the open cage. When we came to pick her up, she came running out in a pack of 4. I loved seeing how happy she was with other dogs. If anyone ever asks for a place to have a doggy daycare, or an over night stay..... this is THE place to go! read more
