This is one of those spaces where looks can be deceiving. However hands down one of the best fish markets I've been to. The ladies working here, very quick service. Be on your toes about what you'd like though. They don't do 1/2 lb of anything as well. You can order fish to go or have it cooked on sight. So we had 1lb of croaker cleaned and fried. 1 lb of large shrimp cleaned, deveined and fried. An order of fried okra and fries. The fish and shrimp were seasoned and fried to perfection. Poor customer service. I arrived 20 minutes before closing. I entered the market, and there were two other individuals already inside waiting to be served. Finally, we were all refused service because the associate said they were closed. The open sign was still on, and according to the hours sign, they are open until 6 pm on Wednesdays. The two individuals already inside said they were waiting to be serviced and were not told the market was closed. The owner was not at the market, so there was no explanation for allowing the customer in while it was closed. If they were closed, the open Sign should have been off and the entrance locked. read more

No one offered an apology or alternative and the cashier literally started yelling when I explained that I called in advance and couldn't believe they were out. Wonderful selection of fresh seafood. Their staff is very helpful and pleasant. When I went, I was looking for oysters. Literally no grocery store that I went into had them. Not even Super G. I finally did an online search for seafood places and came across Central Fish Market. It is definitely out of the way and don't blink or you'll drive right by it. It's not a huge place. However, there's no denying the quality of the seafood. The oysters were shucked and super fresh. They were absolutely beautiful, large gulf oysters. It made me a little homesick for the Gulf, but only a little. I can't wait to go back and see what else they have to offer. read more

I went here bc I wanted to cook some fresh fish. There is a small parking lot in the back. This place is small. But it has what you need. They had a variety of fresh fish such as perch, whiting, flounder. They had shrimp, scallops, and oysters. I ordered by how many pieces I wanted. I just wanted 4 scallops and a few pieces of fish. They had a variety of seasonings, breading and oils on the wall. They also had tartar sauces, remoulade, and cocktails sauces. If you are looking to get some fresh seafood items instead of going to the grocery store check this place out. The staff was nice. I was asking her suggestions on a few items and she was helpful. When I ordered my fish the staff asked me if I wanted my fish cooked. I denied, but it's nice to know that it's an option. I cannot believe what I experienced today, (12/14/24) at Central Fish Market! I've been a long-time customer of theirs so I am truly shocked by this experience. A Latina woman walked in 'after' I did waiting to be helped. There were only 2 women workers in the front and they were both cleaning fish. The short, chubby Latina woman started talking Spanish to the lady that came in 'after' I did and started getting her some shrimp. This bothered me that she decided to help someone that came in after I did but I let it go and did not say a word about the blatant disrespect. After she gave the woman her shrimp, she looked at me with a nasty smirk and turned around and started back cleaning the fish without saying a word to me! Everyone in the market was in disbelief at what she just did! I just walked out. Before I drove off, I called into the market and asked if a manager was on duty. The same rude woman answered the phone and told me NO and hung up on me! I called right back and asked her why she hung up on me and she stated because I asked for a manager and she told me one wasn't there, as if that was an acceptable reason to hang up on someone. The type of unprofessional and rude behavior this woman has is totally unacceptable and she should not be allowed to interact with any customers. Management should really think about how many customers she has ran off. She does not represent your business well at all and you should really think hard about keeping her on as a part of your team. read more

Excellent fresh fish and seafood. I love getting my food from this place. They're very friendly and knowledgeable about their product.

Went here looking for some king crab legs. The place was clean. It smells like a fish market nothing more nothing less. Parking is interesting as their parking lot is tiny but there is a larger parking lot next to them so that's better. The service was fast. They do let you see the seafood before you purchase it. I didn't get anything cooked but I do know they offer that service as well as cleaning the fish if requested. They had a nice variety and everything appeared to be fresh. Love this place. I great crabs from here. Haven't tried anything else but they are always busy. You can get stuff here you can't get at grocery store. Asian lady is so nice. She greets me. This place I recommend in Charlotte. The hard shell crabs now they don't charge the classic prices like you would normally get in Maryland or New Jersey in Newark to be specific. But I can't complain I wish I could get the extra large or jumbo sizeS from them. But for some clean tasty hard shell blue crabs and availability cooked steamed with nice old bay seasoning. Hands-down I gotta get this from them this has been my spot for the last two years and a half years I've been in Charlotte. They also have other options there for seafood place that I indulged in. Those jumbo or colossal Alaskan snow crab. I'm 6 foot 2 with sizable fingers and hands these pieces are bigger than my fingers. I gotta have that too The next thing I guess I'm going to finally get from there is some of the fish that they have. This fish spot reminds me of the markets that you come across all over NYC. It appears to be family owned and operated which is nice. They have a nice fish selection and can tell you when specific items will be in season. We'll be back during crab season! The building itself could use some renovations as the floor is warn and some of the equipment seems as though it's on its last leg. Once you select the fish you want, by picking it up and putting it into a bowl, they weigh the items and then you can determine how you would like the fish cut, trimmed, and cleaned. They then bag it for you and ring you up. They also have a small selection of other grocery items. My only suggestion would be to label whether each item is farm raised or wild caught. If wild caught, I'd like to know from where. read more
