The most detailed historical rail map of the area I have seen anywhere.

Outstanding rail museum, lots of photos and text I wanted to spend time pondering, but evidently we are going through Covid: The Sequel ( December 2021 ), so I will have to come back when being close to people does not alarm me.

This museum is worthy of a visit. I definitely recommend that you take an hour or so and stop by. I don't think that it's good for toddlers. They do have a nice Thomas the Train playset in the center of one of the rooms so if you do bring your children and they like trains the playset will keep them busy. There is lots of memorabilia that includes lots of photos, telephones, lanterns, locks and keys, signage, bells, ticket punches, uniforms, timetables, equipment, marker lights, tinware, china and so much more. There are several rooms nicely organized and very clean.

The museum is housed in the old Tavares and Gulf Rail Company building. Upon arrival we were greeted by a local volunteer that gave us a brief history of the importance of railroads to the central Florida citrus industry as well as the building setup. The museum has a large display of authentic railroad items including rails and spikes as well as scale models of train systems from different parts of the United States. The telegraph room contains authentic telegraph equipment as well as manuals and old telephones. The setup is more a collection of railroad artifacts rather than a museum that tells a story. We found it to be a interesting glimpse into early railroad history. The cost is free but they do accept donations. If you like railroads or are a history buff you should definitely take the time to stop in.

What a great place for train lovers to visit while in Winter Garden. My kids loved it and didn't want to leave! It's a hidden gem!

It is an ideal environment to dedicate an entire day to exploration, offering a depth of engagement that holds the attention of young minds while remaining intellectually stimulating. The facility's approach to hands-on exhibits is sophisticated and well-structured, fostering a genuine interest in scientific inquiry. From the intricacies of the planetarium shows to the immersive nature of the giant-screen and 3-D films, every element of the museum is curated to facilitate active learning. It is an impressive example of how to make complex subjects accessible and exciting for a broad audience. For any family seeking an environment where curiosity is not just encouraged but actively facilitated, this center stands out as a highly rewarding experience.

One of them happened to be the mess fest that was going on this past weekend. So we decided to head out to Orlando and let me tell you it was so much fun!! They transformed one of their rooms into a fun place for the kids to get messy. You were catapulting scrunchie balls covered in paint onto a canvas sheet. There was another area where they were doing little bottle rockets with paint and Alka-Seltzer. That my kids absolutely LOVED. They also had scribble bots, a raffle painting for canvas paintings but that's not all because they had other stuff going on different floors. We got to make our own slime and we even got to go outside and watch them use liquid nitrogen to cause a bubbly explosion that the kids got to play afterwards. This was a 10 out of 10 experience.

We have free passes with our Legoland annual pass, so we checked out this place, the Orlando, Eye, and Madame Tussaud's. There was a lot of things to read, I made my older son practice reading by reading a lot of the plaques. There was also some fun interactive screens. And the highlight was a mermaid that was swimming around in the tank that came up to wave at everyone. It must be somewhat common place because we saw the mermaid a couple of times and only in one area where people rushing up to get pictures. The aquarium is broken out into sections, they had quite a few different species. My son also liked the touch tank. Overall, it took us about 45 minutes to get through so it's not a full day thing. If you read more, you could maybe make it last a couple hours, but for young children, I would say about an hour. Parking at icon park is easy. There's a free parking garage that has free parking on the upper levels and pay to park on the lower levels. When we came at about 5 PM on a Saturday there were tons of spots. I don't think this place gets that busy until nighttime.

For 2 tickets it's was coming up to almost $80. I looked online quickly and found they have Florida resident discounted tickets. For 2 people it ended up being around $65. Thankfully I looked online, because for $80 it is VERY overpriced for the experience. While it is an immersive experience and they have lots of views, interactions and beautiful marine life, I found that walking thru the aquarium lasted maybe an hour and that's with kids stopping and looking. They have lots of add ons and it seems that if you don't do the add ons then you pretty much just walk around, look at all the tanks, and do a touch tank that's pretty much it.

It was part of my Go City Explorer pass, which is a good deal if you want to hit up multiple random attractions and don't have a good idea of what to do. It's also slightly cheaper on Groupon if you're not from the area and want to buy individually. Parking is free in Icon Park's garage floors 4-7. It's an easy walk to the elevators to go down with a bunch of other tourists to walk through the park to near the center, where the Museum of Illusions is located. Along the way, you can get a nice photo op with the ferris wheel in the background. Once you walk in, you present your entry at the counter, and can begin walking through the exhibits on the left (the right side behind the counter is where you'll be exiting, beyond the few racks of merchandise). The walkthrough is pretty short - most of the wait is basically waiting on other people to clear out so you can take your own photos. We did everything in 45 minutes. There's not too much text to read, but sufficient enough for a basic understanding of how the illusions work. There are supposed to be a couple of guides waiting around to assist with photo-taking, but they were concentrated in one area, so for the most part it felt like we had to help ourselves. My favorite exhibits were the head on a platter, Ames room, and cloning table. Everything is still obviously a trick if you take another look at the photos. The reversed room could have been neat, but it doesn't account for gravity pull on fabric, so it only works if you have a shaved head and are wearing skin-tight clothes. The vortex tunnel is not too impressive - just more of an in-person dizzy balancing experience. The infinity room is pretty neat, though awkward when you're behind the camera. The entire experience would be a lot better if there were sensors that took photos for you, since taking the photo yourself negates some of the "magic" in the pictures. I also think they need better instructions for some rooms, since it sometimes took a few minutes to figure out what I should be looking at or doing. For a one-time experience, it's alright.

My first question was: Are the VR sets and headphones clean? The VR set goes right on your face. The employee assured me that they clean everything in between use. Ok good. The VR recreates the Secret Annex where Anne Frank lived in hiding from 1942-1944. You see what life was like in the attic as you are guided through the rooms by Anne. The VR is available in 7 languages and is 25 minutes long. The VR is only for children over the age 13. There were groups of high school students there doing the VR. You sit down during the VR but I moved around in my chair a little. The VR made history come to life. Wow! The employees there were also super nice and helpful. The center and VR experience is free but donations are accepted. The Center's website states the VR experience exhibit is there until 2023.
