Our annual family vacation wasn't truly complete until we happened upon the Wells Built Museum! This hidden gem provided the perfect learning opportunity for our children, ages 14-24, my husband and myself. Our parents had a wonderful time trading stories, reminiscing, and sharing the similarities between Orlando, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis. The host was incredibly personable and knowledgeable. We look forward to returning post-COVID!

This museum is a hidden gem in Orlando. It has a vast amount of history about the black population that once thrived here. The original owners house is next door to this museum. I recommend this place for all black history fanatics!

Amazing place that has centuries of black history in one place. The building was the first black hotel. Amazing.

It is an impressive example of how to make complex subjects accessible and exciting for a broad audience. One of them happened to be the mess fest that was going on this past weekend. So we decided to head out to Orlando and let me tell you it was so much fun!! They transformed one of their rooms into a fun place for the kids to get messy. You were catapulting scrunchie balls covered in paint onto a canvas sheet. There was another area where they were doing little bottle rockets with paint and Alka-Seltzer. That my kids absolutely LOVED. They also had scribble bots, a raffle painting for canvas paintings but that's not all because they had other stuff going on different floors. We got to make our own slime and we even got to go outside and watch them use liquid nitrogen to cause a bubbly explosion that the kids got to play afterwards. This was a 10 out of 10 experience.

Come here for cute, gimmicky Instagrammable shots! I've gone to several of these business types -…read moremostly popups - but this one is a permanent fixture. It was part of my Go City Explorer pass, which is a good deal if you want to hit up multiple random attractions and don't have a good idea of what to do. It's also slightly cheaper on Groupon if you're not from the area and want to buy individually. Parking is free in Icon Park's garage floors 4-7. It's an easy walk to the elevators to go down with a bunch of other tourists to walk through the park to near the center, where the Museum of Illusions is located. Along the way, you can get a nice photo op with the ferris wheel in the background. Once you walk in, you present your entry at the counter, and can begin walking through the exhibits on the left (the right side behind the counter is where you'll be exiting, beyond the few racks of merchandise). The walkthrough is pretty short - most of the wait is basically waiting on other people to clear out so you can take your own photos. We did everything in 45 minutes. There's not too much text to read, but sufficient enough for a basic understanding of how the illusions work. There are supposed to be a couple of guides waiting around to assist with photo-taking, but they were concentrated in one area, so for the most part it felt like we had to help ourselves. My favorite exhibits were the head on a platter, Ames room, and cloning table. Everything is still obviously a trick if you take another look at the photos. The reversed room could have been neat, but it doesn't account for gravity pull on fabric, so it only works if you have a shaved head and are wearing skin-tight clothes. The vortex tunnel is not too impressive - just more of an in-person dizzy balancing experience. The infinity room is pretty neat, though awkward when you're behind the camera. The entire experience would be a lot better if there were sensors that took photos for you, since taking the photo yourself negates some of the "magic" in the pictures. I also think they need better instructions for some rooms, since it sometimes took a few minutes to figure out what I should be looking at or doing. For a one-time experience, it's alright.

The museum wasn't crowded, which made it easy to explore the exhibits, try out all the illusion games, and take plenty of photos. Teachers get complimentary entry plus one guest, which is such a thoughtful perk. Juan, the manager, was amazing, he allowed both of my guest complimentary entry and gave me the coolest flexible pencil as a fun keepsake. The staff were super friendly and helpful, explaining how each illusion worked and helping create them. They even took the pictures, which made the experience even more interactive and entertaining. I just wish the museum were a bit bigger so we could've spent even more time there, but overall it's a unique, fun, and memorable spot that's worth a visit!

I found out the Leu family donated their family land hoping to share its beauty. Unique gardens with plenty of shade. Great for all ages, including toddlers. If you love nature, you are in for a special treat as this garden has hundreds of plants and flowers all very clearly labeled. Sprinkled throughout the paths are funky bird houses and information on the birds there which sing non-stop in the background which is mesmerizing to sit on a bench by the brook and listen to birds and water, like I said, a special treat. I located a new bird to me, the gila woodpecker! The house museum tour is full of local Florida history and the house is beautiful with many interesting details like the children's back stairs and the bathrooms have original tiles and fixtures! The bathrooms are accessible, clean and well stocked with supplies. The map gives a clear idea of where you want to wander to and where you might want to stop to take in nature. One of my favorite places with sculpture added to the gardens along with specialized gardens for cocktail ingredients, salsa garden, chutney garden and tea garden! Fun! Many fruits and herbs as well. A must see if you love the outdoors, birds, plants, flowers, gardening or the peace that nature brings. A must see!!!!

It's not terribly large, but it is a pretty good size. We usually spend about 45 minutes to an hour here which is kind of his attention span. They have lots of places that you can climb up and feel like you are inside the aquarium and have the fish all around you. He really likes that. They also have a place where you can pet some of the sea life. He does not like that at all. They also sometimes have opportunities to feed the sea life for an additional charge. They are currently doing an animal crossing promo and you can collect stamps as you to travel through the aquarium. At the end, you get some badges and my son really enjoyed that. The price to visit is a little steep so definitely look at getting a combo ticket. You can save money if you decide to do the aquarium as well as the wax museum in Orlando eye. That's why this experience was especially disappointing. We purchased tickets in advance and paid nearly $160 for four people, three adults and one child. For what was offered, that price is incredibly hard to justify. The aquarium is located inside a mall, and the entire experience felt dark, cramped, crowded, and worn down. If we felt confined walking through it, I couldn't help but think about the animals living there every day. There were surprisingly few exhibits, and the sea life itself was fairly limited. Nothing felt particularly unique, and the entire visit took us less than 30 minutes at a relaxed pace. To make matters worse, the building had an unpleasant odor. You expect a slight marine smell at an aquarium, but this smelled more like an old, damp mop than the ocean. For the admission price, we expected a much larger, cleaner, and more engaging experience. Instead, we left wondering where all that ticket money is actually going. Something about this place just didn't sit right with us. And honestly... something seems a little fishy here.

Seeing real artifacts recovered from the ship is an incredible experience, and the exhibits are well put together. The staff was friendly, and the museum was clean and well maintained. Like most tourist attractions in the Orlando area, it can get expensive, especially for a larger family. Also, if you've been before, don't expect to see many changes. I didn't notice any new artifacts since my last visit, so it may be more of a one-and-done experience unless they announce new additions.
