I tried to eat here twice in April and was denied both times. I was only in town for the weekend and my opportunities were limited. We arrived in town just before 5 pm (their closing time) on a Friday, it was 4:55 when I tried to enter and a lady came out saying "We're closed!!!" I was like wtf, it's not 5 o'clock yet why are they refusing customers. I tried to reason with her, showing her our Oregon license plate, we've traveled a long way. Nope, sorry. I tried again the following afternoon at 4:48 and as I tried the door it was locked and the girl behind the counter said "We're closed!" I got upset and she played the victim to someone else in the back. At that point I gave up and vowed to never return. All we wanted was a couple of hot dogs with meat sauce to go, nbd. Where to begin. I am from Rochester, NY home of the original garbage plate. This garbage plate cost $11. A garbage plate & a large fountain drink cost me $14.95 & if you pay with the card they charge the customer the service fee (real classy). Guess the cost of doing business falls on the customer in Elmira. As far as the garbage plate, it's the worst I've ever had. As you see from the picture they dump meat sauce and cover every inch. The meat sauce is mediocre but not terrible. Now underneath was a bed of French fries with macaroni salad sprinkled around. There was not one spot where I could scoop up a fork full of mac salad. Now how it should be is half the plate is Mac salad and the other half the plate is home fries but they use French fries. Then you're supposed to have 2 cheeseburger patties on each of the sides. In this instance they cut up my burgers (no cheese or onions) into chunks and I had to find them randomly under the meat sauce and I can't confirm that I even got 2 patties. Again no cheese or diced onions. If they changed a few things it wouldn't be a bad plate but for the price of it plus the fact that the restaurant charges the customer a service fee on using cards I don't see myself coming back. Soggy buns. Two bites in and you're left with a sopping bun. Dry off your dogs or don't steam buns so long.

Restaurant is very clean, quick service, and friendly. Hot dogs themselves were good, nothing fancy. Fresh soft bread, good meatsauce, good kraut. Tabke service was quick and friendly as well. Fries were hot and tasty. Highly recommend for a quick lunch. read more

Ok fist let me say the new location is a nice spot the dogs arnt bad however The service is something like you see on spongebob it's more like the krusty crab With how unfriendly they are! Also no fountain machine for soda or drinks you have to buy a 50 cent can of soda for $150 or so. Very unprofessional they have the space to install a soda fountain machine. Your food is served to u on 1 plate so you get two messy meat sauce dogs and your supposed to eat of of 1 tiny plate? I feel with the new location and a customer who dines in should be offered a real restaurant type plate and silverware. This business is very amature to me they can step up there service there dining and there drinks. I think my daughter ordered a hot coco one afternoon and it was made from a household Kurig machine and a paper cup. " really". They been in there new spot for awhile which is a nicely remodeled building. Time to step it up central hots, Diners who choose to eat in. Serve there orders on real plates with real forks Any 1 who orders a drink sell them a real fountain drink! And stop with the hand writing of orders at the bar just to turn around and punch them in the register Take the order facing the customer and get a system where the order punched in Go's right to the "cook" save some time. O and be grateful for your customers not upset you have work to do. Over all a mediocre hot dog served in a amateurish way with a can of soda bought from SAMs club and a coffee made from a household Kurig machine.. Place needs chef Ramsey to bring them up to speed or something. I went here right after they opened. I ordered a chicken speidi sub and waited 30 minutes for my food to be ready. It was very busy and crowded with the over 65 age group. Good luck finding a table. Pros: The prices are pretty cheap and the employees are nice. Cons: Very small, cramped dining area. read more

A few weeks ago, a friend and I tried to stop at Central Hots for a couple of dogs at 5:45PM (on a Friday) when their closing time is posted as 7PM. We were on our way to a hockey game in Elmira. I have celiac disease, so my dining options are somewhat limited as I HAVE to eat gluten-free. When we arrived, we found that they had already closed for the day. Maddening, to say the least. Today, my wife & I tried to stop there for a couple of dogs, with me needing the usual GF buns. After we got our drinks & sat in a booth, the staff advised that they had NO GF BUNS!!!!! Again, our dining plans were dashed by the poor management at Central Hots. How difficult is it to keep track of GF bun inventory IF THEY PLACE ANY IMPORTANT ON THE MATTER? I gave them another chance after the "Friday night closure" fiasco, they're not likely to see me again, right away, after this fiasco. Apparently, providing a meal to me is not a priority for them! As an aside, they gave a refund on the dogs today, but the staff was not smart enough to include a goodwill refund on our beverages. This tells me that there is NO remorse on their part... Spicy meatsauce. The mac salad and potato salad was garlicky. Mozzarella sticks were blah. Won't be back.

Went there with my Mom after her hip surgery, I helped her get seated but wasn't sure how to order. No one payed any attention to us and it wasn't even busy. Stood at counter several minutes right in front of workers and I could have been a ghost as they talked and took orders from others just coming in! We walked out slowly and apparently no one there gives a crap. So I will never think of this place again and always tell others about how horrible they are. I grew up in Elmira, in the 50's and 60's. I missed 2 things after I went into the Armed Forces, Jim Colletta's Pizza from Broadway(God rest his soul) and Central Sandwich Shop(Nick's), Hots, from Water street at that time. I just was in Elmira, this month and I found my old favorite,Central Hots, hasn't change their quality or flavor, in 43 years. KUDO'S !! read more
