The food is good. I only get the speedy chicken salad or Speedy Chicken sandwich. Both good when the chicken isn't tough. Although that's rare. Going in the "back door" from parking lot is TOTALLY DISCUSTING ! I have never seen such a filthy mess. I don't even want to touch the door to go in. I can't believe this isn't a code violation. Some cleaning solution, sponge, and a few minutes of time would help a LOT. Some paint would help too. Alright, I have to say that I am a picky eater. Picky enough to be skeptical about what's for breakfast/lunch/dinner. So when I heard On a Roll multiple times during my stay in horseheads, I had to give it a try. My boyfriend loooovvvves the chicken speedies subs. I'm born and raised in California; we don't have chicken speedies here. He ordered one, and I ordered a plain ham cheese lettuce and tomato sandwich. I have to say that that chicken speedie was so good I ate the other half of his speedie lol Best rolls for the subs, service is excellent, and the food is fantastic! I'm back in California. A hidden gem in Horseheads. My husband and I first time here, he had also noticed tons of people coming and in out of this joint. It's not much to look at, no thrills inside or out but that doesn't matter because the staff and food make up for the rest. Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. I had the Turkey sub with all the fixings - it was huge and filling and really appreciated the shaved Turkey. The hubs had the ever so popular chicken spedie because the guy recommended it. The red peppers gave it a sweet tangy flavor that was different then most but still good. The bread was super freshly and doughy, but we don't eat much of bread these days. I just appreciated how packed they made the sub that when I tore it away from the bread it kept it sub shaped. read more

Stopped here on the way home from the Finger Lakes for a quick sandwich. I got a spinach wrap with chicken salad and my friend got the Reuben on a hoagie roll. First of all... lots of selections with different breads, wraps, meats, etc but they are all so amazingly fresh! You can also make anything into a salad or quesadilla. They have a few of your basic sides like macaroni salad and garden salads and all as well. I was also pleasantly surprised by the size of both meals we got. It was enough for 2 meals for each of us. This place was amazing- we wish we lived closer so we could go more often but it'll definitely be a stop in or out of town! We walked in the guy behind the counter, was quick to ask us what we wanted and had no problem explaining to us about the menu. The place seems to be a little dirty behind the counter as well as in the kitchen, but if you can get past that, the food was awesome. While the staff are super friendly, the place itself is super dirty and gross. I don't mean a little bit either. I mean down right disgusting! If you stand at the counter and look at where the sandwich "toppings" are, it looks like it hasn't been cleaned in 5 years and the walls and floor are absolutely filthy! Filthy! Stopped in for a quick sandwich on our way to a weekend getaway. The reviews made it sound awesome but we found it barely okay. The two guys running the counter seemed less the enthused to be working there and took our orders with utter disdain. The person with the best customer service was the kid with the mop! The place could also use a good deep clean and some new paint. It wss a little gross. Don't use the bathrooms. The sandwiches were okay. My buffalo chicken was edible but the chicken was tough and flavorless. My other half had the quesadilla which had mozzarella cheese since they were out of cheddar. So if you are desperate roll the dice and get a sandwich. If you can wait head somewhere else. read more

Great sub...The family and I order a couple subs once a month or so. They have great bread and all the fix'ins. Tried the beef bbq, chicken spedies, tuna salad, crab salad and Italian. All be good sized and portions. Really like the salt potatoes and the service team are all engaging and friendly- once you start the conversation. The one thing they need to do is clean up the area a bit. It is concerning in this COVID time to stop by and pick up ur sandwich and see all the pieces of trash, food and general disarray around the food prep area. Great local sandwich shop. read more

This place is dirty, dirty,, dirty. You walk in the back door which is in need of a good washing. I didn't even want to touch it. Walls heading to the counter is dirty. Then you getup to the counter to order - counter was in need of a good scrubbing, cob webs in the corners. Napkin counter was as equally dirty. Carpet is in need of a good cleaning. For years, this has been an occasional family treat we'd go out of our way for. The rolls were huge, the toppings were fresh and generously applied, their unique sub sauce was outstanding and the prices were reasonable for all that you received. It had been a long while since our last visit when my son and I stopped in at the end of February 2018. What a disappointment! With tax we paid more than $16.00 for 2 large meatless veggie/cheese subs whose rolls were nearly half their former width, which meant far skimpier toppings. We were also overcharged until I questioned paying 25 bucks for just two subs! So that'll be my last visit to this establishment. I can get a far better value at Subway or -- even better yet -- South Side Sub Shop. I don't know if the place is under new or just poor management, but I can't imagine I'm the only longtime customer who has noticed the difference and is saying goodbye. (I was originally inclined to give 1 star but felt that was too harsh. The place is clean and the food fresh; it's just that it's not what it used to be. 2-1/2 stars would probably be about right.) read more

Waited wayyyy to long. Then they ignored my husband and he had to tell a different kid his order- a simple rueban- on their menu, yet they had no clue what was on a rueban. Then it took 45 minutes to come out. Mind you, 3 customers in shop, 3 "deli" people behind counter. Got our sandwiches and they were the absolute poorest excuse. 2 slices of rye flavor wonder bread with MAYBE 3 slices of shaved corned beef, 1 slice Swiss, undrained sauerkraut and Russian dressing all chopped and mixed together in what resembled a poorly made soggy velvetta grilled cheese. Took a bite, worst mistake I've made in a long time- tasted like dirty flat top and grease. Avoid like plague until they get their act together. read more
