Why would one serve frozen food and take only cash??? Your guess is as good as mine. Also the chicken wing was over cooked. Elmira NY...here to visit family but discovered that this place is a food desert...like FOR REAL. We arrived at our Air BnB and the owners told us to try out this place and called it "the Cheers of Elmira". We figured we'd go with that recommendation and off we went cuz we were hungry and needed to eat! So we pulled up and it was a house style building that was in the middle of a residential street. When you walk in most of the seating is down both sides of the room. As you pass through, there is a full bar in the back and additional seating. The atmosphere is super casual, self seating and TVs everywhere. To order you come up to the bar and get your own menus, place your order there, and they bring your food to the table. We kept it real simple and went with burgers and fries; because we want people to be successful when feeding us lol. We were not disappointed the burgers came out juicy, well dressed on fresh buns and along side tasty fries. The prices were very pocket friendly and the bartenders/staff/servers were friendly and inviting. I wish the portions were bigger; but all in all for a basic tasty bite to eat in a casual spot it's good to go. read more

We came here because of a recommendation of a local at a winery. We seated ourselves on arrival and decided what we wanted to eat. We ordered at the bar, as directed by the signs. Our order entailed: 2 burgers, one dressed and one dressed with bacon. A masters steak Fried shrimp A salmon salad Garlic Parmesan wings A pitcher of soda Well thank god that we had something to drink because our food took 1 hour and 10 mins to arrive. At about 45 mins in I questioned a staff member how much longer; he returned in about 3-5 minutes to tell us we were waiting on a steak. We then waited for 20-25 more minutes until we got our food. The burgers were dry, the fries were greasy. No bacon on the requested burger, however I advised the staff and they retrieved it quite promptly. We didn't even get an "I'm sorry it's taking so long" I wanted to eat my hand by the time the food arrived. Not worth it! I used to love this place growing up but I moved away and people have said it was getting bad but my experience here yesterday was awful. I stopped in Elmira just for an overnight to see my family and decided to call and order for lunch. I drove from Pine City to pick up my food and the worker read off my order and handed it to me. They had no customers. I drove all the way back to Pine City to find out I was charged $17 for my wings but they were never given to me. I called and they said "Yea what do you want? Your money back or something?" I said I have to drive five hours home today and I was looking forward to these wings I get once a year. So I went back and the worker just hands me my food. I said "I think I deserve a refund this was inconvenient. The worker walked over to the owner who was sitting at the patron side of the bar and said "he wants his money back, I already gave him free fries". Because my fries were cold at this point and my family was already eating their food. So now I don't get to eat with my family who I only get to see for a few hours then I have to drive 5 hours home and they just added an extra hour to it driving back and forth from Pune City. The owner says "give him half off". I am thinking he is saying half off the entire order. I proceed to say that I think I should get a full refund considering the situation and I tried to explain how much money my family has spent there over the years but they don't care to hear anything. They tried to explain that the workers pen died while writing out the order. The owner says "go ahead and refund him" and the worker hands me $17. This is where I realized he was only offering me 50% off my wings and I sat there for a second stunned and said "Oh wow you were only offering me 50% off the one order of wings?" I have worked in restaurants before and never heard of anything like this. The owner walks behind the bar in front of me and says "You wanted a refund for the entire order?" Came here for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Ordered buffalo chicken wings that come with 15 wings. We decided to do mild sauce on the wings with hot sauce on the side. The mild sauce was not spicy at all, hence my 4 stars, and the hot sauce was still pretty bearable which we ended up just pouring over the wings. The wings also only came with 3 celery sticks, even though I thought there would be more. I did enjoy my overall experience though, super lowkey environment with lots of parking space. The price was fair as well, I think it was around $12 for 15 wings, although I don't fully remember. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fast and casual meal. read more

Hubby and I went there yesterday. Based on my previous dining experience(s), I expected the food to be delish. My brisket sandwich was good, fatty and plentiful. The coleslaw was not spicy, but then what I consider spicy is usually inedible for most people I know (it could use a bit more sugar). Pretzels were warm and adequately salty, although the Velveeta-like dip could seriously improve after being given some beer treatment. Now on to the fish-n-chips the birthday boy had. It was not good. The breading the fish balls were coated in was questionable, same as the the breading used for French fries. Yes, French fries were coated in bread. It's OK to us food provided by SYSCO/Keck's, most restaurants depend on it; it is just not OK to prepare it in a way that makes the customer leave most of what's on his plate untouched (or disemboweled, see the aforementioned fish balls). What has changed? Is the restaurant under different management these days? I admit that my other review - written about month and a half ago - was based on my previous visits to the restaurant, which were very positive, so perhaps I did The Elbow Room a bit of disservice praising them for something that happened in the past? read more

I will preface this by saying the wings here are the best around. This establishment is confused. It's half bar, half restaurant and neither are done well. You seat yourself and have to order at the bar. A bar that's crowded with drunk senior citizens, tony soprano types pretending to be wealthy and a younger crowd who are working hard toward diabetes like the older crowd. It will take you 20 minutes to order, 45 minutes for your food, 20 minutes if you need anything after getting your food and another 20 when you would like to pay for your meal. This wouldn't be an issue except they actually have very good food and there's generally a large family crowd there for dinner. There are many booths and folks go there for dinner so not having a service staff makes zero sense. Cater to people who want your food too please. Alcoholics shouldn't be the focus when you're making such good food! Maybe open a second location - 1 a bar and the other a restaurant....the food could stand on its own.
