Most classes are one hour long from my understanding. For adult classes, it's 10$ per class or you can get the 80$ card for 10 classes. I personally have been taking the hip pop classes and it's load of fun. New songs and dances every week, so won't be too repetitive. Weather you can dance or not, I believe you'll have fun and enjoy yourself. They have an Instagram (@safiyyahdance) you can follow if you want keep up to date and of course pictures and videos.

Every night is different and you never know which choreographer you will get, which keeps things exciting. Each one has their own style and flavor. I usually try to go to Monday, Tuesday or Thursday night's, which is intermediate, beginner, and advanced in that order. Wednesday can be heels or something like twerk. They also have hip hop fitness Tuesday before the beginner class. Check the site or call for schedule. They also have a competitive dance team for kids to teenagers. They are really good and win awards all the time. You can drop in or get a class card. Students pay $5 with a student ID. I believe drop in is $10. They also have guest choreographers or workshops every now and then, usually on Saturdays. Instructors are personable and will challenge you. A great mental and physical challenge, definitely try it!

I was skeptical that we would be able to keep up with the other dancers but agreed to go because the experience sounded unique and fun. The world of dance studios is unknown to me and I was certainly curious. He signed us up but did have some difficulty arranging payment. The studio required advance payment but did not except credit cards. Neither of us use Venmo so we weren't certain we would be able to book in, but the studio finally agreed to let him pay for our session by credit card. My understanding is they've had people sign up for the classes but did not show up and make payment that morning. Very disappointing when a class has limited space and potentially a waiting list. The studio is located in Saint Matthews. There is a small parking lot for Saint Matthews station which is shared by several businesses. The dance studio is upstairs. The owner of the studio greeted each person that walked in and checked us all registration. We did sign a liability waiver. My best friend and I are no spring chickens. We knew the class stated 10 years old - adult. Most of the students were teenagers. Including us only one other adult was participating. It was obvious each of these girls took dance lessons, especially with their professional shoes. I opted to hang out toward the back of class. It wasn't a good move for me personally because I struggled to see the footwork of the instructor but from a comfort level I certainly didn't want to be in front of other people. The instructor was fantastic! She had us warm up and then went right into a routine. We learned it in pieces and then did the full routine. She then broke us up into smaller groups and had us do the routine. Toward the end of class she taught a second small routine, and later answered questions from the students. It was obvious she'd conducted other trainings before. She was also very easy to understand, bright good energy, and really encouraged everyone. I was not a very good student but at least tried my best and certainly got in a decent morning work out that I would not have experienced anywhere else. The studio teaches a variety of classes and you can pay by the class. More guest instructors, including one from Hamilton, will be coming to the studio. The owner was extremely friendly and you can tell that she is passionate about her students. Check them out on their website or follow them on social media.

Lack of real performance opportunities and lack of continuity between the teachers. There is no set school curriculum. When I asked one teacher which method she teaches, it differed from the method of another teacher in the more advanced courses. High turn over among the staff. It seems that everyone is doing their own thing. The office staff doesn't seem to even know how to use the app to make payments. It just seems to be a hodge-podge of instruction. This place has so much potential if they have some consistent leadership.

Once you're inside you see a number of poles coming down from the ceiling and you really feel like you're in a cave because of the stone walls on either end. Another wall is full of mirrors and the opposite wall has Lady Kave's logo which is perfect for a group photo. Our instructor was so sweet and talented. She went over safety and had us stretch. She showed us the dance we would be doing and we all began to be internally worried we wouldn't be able to do it but she was such a wonderful teacher and broke it down step by step. We all were able to learn it! We giggled and twirled and tried to be sexy but couldn't match the instructors grace. I had always wanted to pole dance because it is such an amazing workout and so graceful. Our hour long party did not let us down from beginning to end. Omg our arms were sore the next day! I didn't expect the next part and loved that Lady Kave doesn't take pole dancing too seriously. We divided into two groups and had a dance off where the others put fake ones into our clothing (wear socks, leggings or shorts, and a comfy top). The winners then dueled it out! It was hilarious, fun and tasteful. Our instructor helped take pictures and video. We also got to try the rotating pole, in the corner, at the end and take pictures with boas. I can't wait to go back with a group or to take a class. I highly recommend Lady Kave!!!

You can either sign up for a single class for $20, or host a group lesson. Mindy, the instructor, is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She is very experienced and is a wonderful teacher. It may all be for fun but honey, you're gonna feel the burn tomorrow. I highly recommend starting out with an intro class and staying in the beginners for a while, because anything above that is intense. But the hour will fly by so fast because you'll be having a great time! MDF is a great place to go to try something new.
