Part of today's haul. $.99 for a pack of strawberries, that's a steal!

Disclaimer: I'm new to Texas and new to Dallas so HEB and Central Market, and any of their locations have no bearing on this review. I felt like I had to say that because I've noticed in the reviews of this location, it often gets compared to other locations in Dallas. I came to find out about Central Market because of a coupon mailer that I received that had a coupon for $25 off your purchase. Yes, you read that correctly, with no minimum required! Before reading the coupon, I started to throw it away but I'm so very glad that I didn't! Kudos to CM's marketing team, because that was EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE! I came here yesterday (Sunday) afternoon which was kind of a big mistake. The place was packed! The aisles are small so that made it a bit awkward to shop with people e v e r y w h e r e. -_- Still, I wanted to take my time to fully understand this place and what it offers. This was my first and only experience at any CM. There is no doubt from the store's exterior, the logo color of emerald green, the prices, and the product variety and offerings that CM is directly competing with Whole Foods. I personally like Whole Foods, particularly their hot food tables. CM has a similar setup, but due to a limited amount of space, there weren't as many buffet tables here as at Whole Foods. I don't want to compare the two businesses so that's where my comparisons are going to stop. The prices at CM are not cheap on most items, while on certain items the prices are phenomenal! I bought a pack of strawberries here for 99 cents that everywhere else in America would be selling for at least $3.99. I know that because I've bought that same sized pack of strawberries from countless grocery stores in at least one other state and paid at least that price. That was a steal and the strawberries are fresh. I also bought several packs of frozen brussels sprouts for $1 and some change, which I've been finding it's getting hard to find frozen brussels sprouts that aren't in steam-in bags so I racked up. The normal price of these is about $1.99 and these were less than that so that's a win. Conversely, I've been having a hard time finding nutmeg at most stores and CM had two different varieties. They were both over $7 for medium sized spice containers. That is astronomical. Did nutmeg become an ingredient for drug use and I missed the memo? Why so high?! The bakery at CM gets major props as there was a good variety of fresh baked breads and baked items. I bought a prepared mini creme brulee that I haven't tried yet but looks delicious. The cheese section was amazing however high as hell! I still bought some 4-alarm cheddar that looked too intriguing to pass up. It was still over $5 for a small block. I wanted to get items to do an individual-sized charcuterie, and the prices were just waaaaay too much to attempt to do that here. Similar varieties of prosciutto and soppressata that I've purchased at Trader Joes in the $3-$5 range were being sold at CM for $7-10. As far as customer service, all of the staff that I encountered was friendly and helpful which was great. The checkout process could have been much faster than it was, but at least my cashier was friendly. I look forward to going back to CM, especially to try their Chef Prepared selections.

This is a funky little Central Market that is laid out kind of weirdly even more so than the normal Central markets. The layout of the store makes it feel more crowded than it really is and has a lot of people criss-crossing and backtracking to get their items. Parking at this location is less than desirable as well. I am usually a huge fan of Central Market but this one is just okay to me.

Amazing prices and food quality. Also love their wine selection. One of my favorite places for fresh fruit and veggies and I love being able to pick my own seasonings and beans

    Still booming

I know that I love Central Market for higher end grocery items but I was not sure about their floral area. I had never used it but upon recommendation from a friend I decided to give it a try. I went in Tuesday morning and requested (6) arrangements at $60 each for 6pm that night. I wanted them all to be very different and unique which was not a problem for the florist. She even allowed me to bring in my own vases ($1 at Family Dollar instead of $8+ at the store) so I could use more money toward the flowers. When I showed up to pick them up they looked nice and were packed conveniently so I could easily transport them home. I was not immediately blown away by the flowers but figured they were good enough. Let me tell you...the next day and the day after that the flowers kept getting better. The blooms started to open up and the arrangements started to really fill out and come to their true glory. I cannot remember the woman's name but she was a nice red head. She did an AMAZING JOB. I am talking wedding flowers quality on my specific budget and requirements. I will absolutely return for more flowers from Central Market Preston.

A lot of very small parking spaces, awkward entrances off Preston, or Royal Lane, and McDonalds drive thru is jammed into the layout.

They provided useful tips for staying in town, what to see/where to go, and a few people even chimed in on where to avoid. I'm usually better at getting names so shame on me for that, but particularly helpful were the deli lady and the Starbucks girls, all of whom were working the morning of 12/26 at 10 am (hopefully that helps their bosses recognize them) The prices seemed good but admittedly I was in vacation mode (where money doesn't matter until you come home) and the service was top notch, but do yourself a favor and stay out of the men's room!! All three consistently have terrible attitudes. They either seem to hate their jobs, dislike dealing with customers, or both. I dread coming here knowing there's a good chance I'll have to interact with one of them, but unfortunately it's often unavoidable. In a time when good jobs can be difficult to find, you would think employees would put more effort into providing basic customer service. For the record, I am Black myself, so let's not turn this into a race issue. I only mentioned race because I don't know all of their names and wanted to identify the specific employees I'm referring to, not anyone else who may work there. These employees are consistently unpleasant and would probably be better suited for positions that involve less direct customer interaction, such as produce, stocking, or the meat department. Their attitudes make what should be a simple shopping trip far more frustrating than it needs to be.

The staff here is a little annoying at times, since they're doing a "donate to a local student scholarship drive", and the cashiers guilt-trip you (and they're fairly persistent) into donating. And when you do contribute, they broadcast it throughout the store. I get it's for a good cause, and I hate to be "that guy", but it is a little irritating after a while. On the plus side, the self-checkout attendants are usually fairly helpful and attentive, so that's good. The last time I wanted to check out, all of the registers were closed, so the self-checkout line was over a dozen people/carts long (thankfully two rows of self-checkout made the line dwindle fairly quickly). Another two lanes of self-checkout were opened at the other end of the store, but there were at least 3-4 attendants at the self-checkout lanes, so I'm curious as to why nobody was manning the actual registers. Finally, as I was leaving, two of the staff were having a casual non-work conversation, blocking the exit, so I asked them politely to move for my cart. They did so, but muttered under their breath for me to use the other exit. It was rather rude, since not only is that not appropriate customer service, but my car was parked at the other end of the parking lot, and the exit was right in front of me, which they were blocking. Overall, Krogers itself is great. You can probably find whatever you're looking for there, even if it might not be food, and for reasonable prices. But the staff and service don't always make your shopping experience a positive one.

I need to talk about Central Market on Lovers Lane and I need to talk about BP and I need to talk…read moreabout the produce section and I only have so many words so let's move. The produce section first because if I do not address it immediately I will think about it the whole time. Walking into the Central Market produce section is the closest a grocery store has ever come to making me feel like a child at Disney World. Not Disney World adjacent. Not Disney World inspired. Full Disney World. There are colors happening in that produce section that I did not know vegetables were capable of. Heirloom tomatoes in seventeen shades. Peppers that look like they were designed by an artist who was told to make a pepper but make it fashion. Mushrooms with names I cannot pronounce displayed like they are artifacts from a civilization that understood fungi better than we do. I have walked in there for one specific item and come out forty minutes later with things I have never cooked before and a quiet optimism about my future in the kitchen that has not always proven accurate but always feels real in the moment. I went once just for garlic. One head of garlic. I left with dragon fruit, three kinds of fresh pasta, a bunch of herbs that required me to look up two of them when I got home, and a wheel of cheese that I told myself was practical. It was not practical. I regret nothing. Now BP. BP runs the prepared foods counter at Central Market Lovers Lane and is the reason I sometimes drive there when I am not even hungry. BP was a high school math teacher in California for years. Years. Shaping young minds, writing equations on whiteboards, presumably grading papers on weekends with the quiet resignation of someone who has chosen a noble and exhausting profession. And then at some point BP looked at California, looked at Dallas, made a decision, and moved. He did most of the moving himself. I want you to think about that. This man, who spent years teaching mathematics, looked at a truck full of his belongings and said I will handle this personally. The kind of move that requires a certain stubbornness and also a pretty solid understanding of spatial reasoning which, given the math background, he had covered. BP is now behind the prepared foods counter at Central Market and is genuinely one of the warmest humans I have encountered on either side of a deli case. He talks to you like he has time, which in a prepared foods counter context is unusual and should be protected at all costs. He knows what is good that day. He will tell you. You should listen. Excellent store. Exceptional produce section. BP is the best part of the prepared foods counter and possibly of Lovers Lane entirely.

I stopped in to grab a few bunches so I could build my partner a custom bouquet at home -- roses, winter peonies, and lilies that were all fresh, full, and priced better than anywhere else around here. The customer service at this location is phenomenal. The lady at the register saw the flowers and asked what I was making. When I told her I was building a bouquet myself for my partner, she lit up and said, "That's how you do it." Little moments like that just make the experience feel personal. Trader Joe's employees always bring good energy, and it shows. I took everything home, trimmed the stems, mixed the colors, and built the bouquet with my own hands. The roses brought the romance, the winter peonies added that soft winter elegance, and the lilies tied the whole thing together like a final touch only she would notice. While I was there I also grabbed steaks to cook her dinner later that night. Between the flowers and the meal, Trader Joe's basically gave me everything I needed to make the whole evening special without running all over town. When I handed her the bouquet and then served dinner, the look on her face made the effort worth it. Trader Joe's helped me turn a simple idea into a real moment -- thoughtful, genuine, and meaningful. Five stars for fresh florals, quality steaks, and customer service that actually makes you feel seen. This is why our local store stays our favorite.
