I've been coming to RiverView Eye Associates for more than 30 years. At first I wondered how going corporate might effect them. I didn't notice right away, but what I did see isn't good and after multiple occurrences I have to assume corporate is driving some inscrutable practices. WATCH YOUR RECEIPTS! On 3 occasions they have added a supposedly optional EYEWARE PROTECTION charge and never explained what it is or how to use it. We always decline it. We usually pay for our glasses out of our FSA account. When they stick on this protection it gets rejected by our FSA account and it causes our account to get frozen until we send a check to the account management to cover that charge. They have done this to us twice. This time after losing a pair of reading glasses I called and asked for replacements. I asked for exactly what I had on my previous visit. After not hearing for 3 weeks, I called and was told they weren't in yet and they would call me. They called me 20 minutes later saying, "They just came in today" I went and picked them up. I told the I was using my FSA card. When I got home I saw a $30 charge for the supposedly optional coverage that they didn't tell me they added, despite me telling them to duplicate my previous order which didn't have it. We have told them repeatedly the problem is causes so I didn't think to look till I got home, Fortunately they did void the entire bill and re-enter without the additional charge by phone. I'll see how this works out. read more

The Clarkson Eye Care on Town Street has always been amazing and very easy to work with. The doctors and all the staff there are great and want to make sure you are comfortable and taken care of. They have gone out of their way on numerous occasions to make sure everything is done and done right. Nowhere else to go for great eye care! read more

I've had multiple exams here and have always been satisfied until my previous optometrist left and I unfortunately saw Dr. Terry last December. He was arrogant throughout and dilated my eyes before the refraction exam. I was shocked that he ultimately recommended progressives as I don't currently wear glasses and hadn't been having issues, so I had several questions. One being why everything in the room now looked blurry and if the dilation was to blame? He dismissed that, saying it was impossible for it to take effect so soon. He was extremely hurried and dismissive of all my concerns and questions. It was such a negative experience that when they automatically made an appointment for this year I cancelled it immediately. This week I had my annual exam at a new practice and it was a night and day difference. Guess what? I don't need glasses! The doctor said I have natural monovision, which she often prescribes for certain patients. I told her about my Clarkson experience and she said she never dilates a patient's eyes first because it can absolutely hinder getting the correct prescription. She also said she would absolutely not recommend progressives for me as I wouldn't likely need them for 5-10 years. I'm pretty ticked to know last year's exam was a waste of time, not to mention the glasses I purchased elsewhere that made me feel horrible. But I'm so glad I didn't order the $600 glasses (with insurance) recommended at Clarkson. If you're looking for an optometrist you can trust, I have a great recommendation (Spoiler: it's definitely not this place). read more

When we arrived I was told that they had no reservations for one of us even though the appointment was made in person a few weeks ago. Love the doctors Curtis (no relation to one another). Pros: Friendly and courteous support staff with low turnover (a rare thing compared with my other physician experiences), reasonable prices including a 10% time of service discount for people without vision insurance, and what I feel is always a quality eye exam. Stylish glasses available onsite through private retail store, although they're happy to give you your prescription so you can buy elsewhere too. Cons: Onsite glasses prices are high compared with discount or online stores selling comparable styles. read more

The good: My wife is a new patient of Dr. Steven Curtis. She was in an accident earlier this year in February and got a concussion. She was referred to Riverview by her Traumatic Brain Injury clinic. Her initial exam was (by her words) probably the most thorough exam of any kind she's had in her life. She said that Dr. Curtis is one the most thorough and pleasant doctors she's ever seen. The bad: After the aforementioned exam back in July, Dr. Curtis advised my wife that some additional therapy would be needed to further help her. He advised that this would need to take place for 12 consecutive visits, and it needed to be done ASAP. He looked at his schedule and saw that there was an opening coming up soon. When the scheduler (Emily) called, she advised my wife that with our insurance, there would a co-pay of around $1200.00 that needed to be paid prior to being scheduled. My wife advised Emily that her insurance would cover at 100%. Emily stated that when she called Medical Mutual of Ohio she was told that they only covered a certain amount and my wife would be responsible for the rest. My wife then called MMOH and they called and got the procedure codes from Riverview. MMOH did say that the therapy was covered at 100% the following day. When my wife advised Emily of this, she was told that the July appointments were now unavailable and nothing else was available until September. My wife advised that she is a school teacher and school would be back in, so she needed this done ASAP as she is having difficulty with her words, headaches, and eyesight all from the concussion. Emily said that was the best she could do. Under duress, she reluctantly agreed and just said she'd have to talk to her boss (the school principal) to make it all work. The Ugly: So my wife called yesterday to Riverview just to confirm the exact time of the appointment and to see if there was a way to possibly come later in the day since school is back in and she doesn't get off until 2:35 pm. Well to her surprise she was told that she wasnt on the schedule! How on earth do you drop the ball like this?! She has been suffering from this concussion since February! February! When does she get some relief!? She had to wait forever for the appointment to the TBI clinic! Then wait for the physical & speech therapies! Then wait for the referral to Riverview! All the while she's getting no better and Now you tell us she's not even scheduled! Dr. Curtis himself told her that once she has these eye therapies from him that she'll start to feel better! Well when is that supposed to be?! Her life is in pause and this Emily chick is just nonchalant about it! THIS IS REAL F--KING LIFE! Is this what healthcare in America is coming to? Just sit and wait and hope to maybe get to a healthcare professional that MAY see you to help you!? The really ugly: Now we're going to have to (hopefully) be referred to someone else who can (hopefully) help my wife! Now we're starting all over again! She got her concussion February 22nd! Today is August 31st! This is THE WORST SERVICE PROVIDED EVER! THANKS FOR NOTHING! read more

I've got terrible eyes. I've had many eye docs. Even though my health insurance dropped my vision insurance, I will still keep going back to Riverview Eye Associates. Of course, the service is excellent - which is surprisingly rare among Columbus eye docs. Further, they are so flexible when it comes to scheduling and my doctor is downright delightful. This is especially important when you're forced to be in close quarters with someone for an extended period of time - much of which is spent with them millimeters from your I-forgot-my-altoids-face. Here's what did it for me: I happen to know that my doc has a very successful practice and yet he helps run a free vision clinic here in Columbus. He's talked fondly of his experiences there and it's clear that he really appreciates what a difference his efforts make to those that would otherwise would never be able to afford a 'luxury' like competent, compassionate vison care. And he's never once let on noticing that I've misplaced my altoids. What a guy. read more

Pro: the eye doctors was fabulous with my two young boys. Took the time to hear their needs, check in with me (Mom) and talk over what the next best step might be with the boys. Cons: Optical department...awful horrible experience. Unorganized, RUDE and when I spoke up about the type of experience I was having I was told by the supervisor of the department to leave. He raised his voice in a very dramatic way and told me they were the BEST! If I didn't agree I could go else where. He became very physically upset. The conversation was nothing more then the last two times I've been here this week my boys have been overlooked and forgotten about. When a six foot man puffs out his chest and looks down at you in an intimidating fashion there are bigger issues going on here. read more

Prior to this, I don't think I've ever ENJOYED going to the eye doctor. I've never minded it, but it's not something I'm necessarily psyched about, you know? Booking was easy, just be warned that Saturday appointments are booked out a while. You can fill out patient forms online ahead of time, which is a huge plus for me (I have bad handwriting, okay?). Front staff desk was efficient and friendly. I had a great appointment with Dr. Oatney, who was kind, educational, and funny. I was a new patient, and he really took the time to listen to me and get to know me. So great! read more

I called to check prices for getting an eye exam for getting new contact lenses without insurance. I was quoted $150-175. Im not going to state an opinion just putting that info out there cause that's all I was looking for. Hope that information helps someone else :) read more

Dr. Julie Curtis is THE BEST. I have a very bizarre eye condition and Dr. Julie went out of her way to help me. She always spends a great deal of time with me. She's friendly and puts me at ease. I went here quite a while back to get my first pair of glasses. They were one of the only places that carried the brand I was looking for (Legre) in frames. Seriously great people. Really made sure they fit and fit well. They were very personal throughout my entire buying process which made it really enjoyable and made me feel confident in what I was purchasing. They didn't care I was picking out male frames even though I'm a female. Any questions I had were answered right away and I'll definitely go back for when I need another pair of frames. read more

My husband and I got our new glasses last week after moving back to Columbus. I was so impressed by the people there, especially Dwayne. It is not at all an intimidating place, and if you need more time to think about which glasses you want to purchase, they don't make you feel bad for leaving without a decision. Excellent care, friendly staff. The exam is very thorough, and carefully explained. They don't accept my vision plan, and the quality of care here is well worth paying out of pocket. I've tried other optometrists who were on my plan, but the glasses made were never quite right. I think Riverview Eye Associates sets a high bar for others in terms of quality and caring about their patients. I hope Dr. Steve never retires!!! read more
