Purchased two vochers through Lifebooker (less than half price). Decided to take a Fall day and bike for the first time in 10 yrs through Central Park. We went in around 3:30 pm on a Friday and had a very smooth check -in process. The staff there were all very friendly and professional. We added insurance, just in case either of us took a tumble ($1.99 each ) and was advised we would have to pay tax when we return. No problem. We were each fitted for a bike, then asked the nice gentleman for a picture and we were on our way. Walked from 56th St. to the park (remember I'm a beginner) and took a test spin once at the park. The bike seemed very heavy and leaned a bit to the left. After a bit of adjusting, we were on our way. Rode from 56th St... up to 110th and back down to 56th st. (Note: the hills/inclines between 80-90's are evil...beware, I had to hop off and walk for a bit). Check-out was just as smooth. Nice Fall day in NYC. Loved our pedicab ride in Central Park! We learned so much from our guide, and enjoyed his sense of humor & graciousness.

We booked a pedicab tour, and the experience was better than expected. I was MOST impressed because the staff was actually friendly, which is rare for New York City! Our guide did a fine job of taking us through Central Park, stopping at well-known photo ops. We had a special request (bringing a wheelchair along with the pedicab) and our guide made it happen. I recommend this company, and would use them again in the future. read more

1. They will ask you to leave an ID at the store. I personally don,t trust anyone holds my ID more than 1 minute. So I found out another way to protect my identity. 2. They dont take cash. The only payment they will accept is debit/credit card. Do you know why? Because they can easily take more money from you if they have to. 3. When you take the bike and return the bike, a staff will write down the time on your receipt. Those will be your begining time and ending time for your hourly rental. Make sure they write down the correct time. They might try to cheat you. When you are renting the bike hourly, you surely don,t want to be charged over time. A staff wrote a wrong time when I returned the bike, I didnt bother to complaint because I returned the bike way before I was supposed to. 4. About the insurance fee they are asking. Some reviewer mentioned they paid for the insurance fee, and still had issues when something happend to the bike they rented. I paid because I was afraid I would have a flat tire, and I got lucky. Nothing bad happen to the bike I rented. Definitely make sure what to expect if bad things happen to the bike, when they ask you to consider the insurance. 5. I find that it is very easy to lose the key for the lock. You could easily drop it somewhere in the park without realizing. When you get the key, dont just leave it on the lock. Please keep it in your bag if you have any. They probably expect this might happen because a missing key also brings profits. A keychain with wristband will probably be an ideal solution for a better customer experience. it,s nice to ride a bike in Central Park. I will use a Citibike next time. Although I will need to park it at a station every 30 minutes, I feel it,s worthy. read more

The worst service! They push you to buy insurance as soon as you show them your groupon! They threaten to charge your card $600 if anything happens to the bike. However, upon return there was zero inspection! I don't understand why so pushy and threatening and then no inspection. With so many other options for bike rentals... this won't be one my radar anymore. Save the hassle, find another place. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! the staff here is shockingly rude, and that's coming from someone who has lived in new york for 10 years. the bikes are nearly falling apart, the store is cramped and stuffy, and you'll have to wait at least 15 minutes to get your bike and to check in after your ride, meaning they eat up 30 minutes of your reservation with their incompetence. Because of this wait, I was "10 minutes late" (even though i WAS on time, I just had to wait in that long line to check in), and they charged me and extra $8.75 per person (even my baby in a baby seat!). I asked to speak to the manager, who apparently is a very very rude, cubby blonde woman. She made it clear she didn't give a s**t, and said "that's the policy". they just want to suck as much money out of you as they can without bothering to at least pretend that they care about their customers. read more

Although we had a bad experience with this company, the tour itself was great. We had Dan as our guide who was funny and informative as he showed us the famous spots in Central Park. My husband and I originally booked a 2 hour long 1:30 bike tour online for $84. The confirmation email and the website do not give information on what time to arrive, so we showed up at 1:25. A worker said she could check in those going on the tour so she pulled us into separate line behind another couple (there were other people in line just renting bikes without the tour portion). That couple had technical trouble with payment so by the time we got to the counter it was a few minutes past our tour time, however the worker said they would check us in quickly. When we got outside, the guys giving out the bikes told us they didn't see the tour guide on the corner of the street so we were to head towards Central Park and find them along the way (the shop is several blocks from the park). We spent almost an hour trying to find them in the park with no luck. I tried calling the shop and could not get through for 15 minutes (no one answered the phone). When I finally got through, I asked if we could come back and get a refund since we couldn't find the tour. They said that there are no refunds so we could either come back for the 4pm tour or we could rent the bikes for 2 hours (but we would have to pay the higher price for the tour). I asked them why we had to pay the tour price instead of the rental price if we aren't actually on the tour and they said it's because we checked in for the tour so we have to pay for it. She said the tours leave promptly at the scheduled time (in which case, they should write in their confirmation email to arrive at a certain time), so she said it's our fault we weren't ready to go (even though we were standing in line waiting to check in before the tour left). She also said that if we arrived after the tour left, they would have told us that it was too late and we could've gone on the next tour (but this was not true or we wouldn't be in this position). It was an extremely upsetting experience being lost in this huge park with no map, no idea where the tour went for over an hour, trying to navigate our way out of the park and talking to these workers who were unsympathetic to our situation and unwilling to budge. We were really not in the mood to go on the next tour, but since we had already paid, we thought it would be a waste to just return the bikes. Glad that we went with Dan, but we ended up spending 5 hours on this when it should've only took 2 hours. read more

I rented two bikes for my parents, who don't speak English. They went for a bike ride while I was working and they said everyone was very helpful and kind and they had no issues getting and returning the bikes (even though they couldn't speak English). If I could give less then one star, I would! My experiance with this place was terrible. First their costumer service was bad. Next they failed to follow their own policy of checking their bikes between every costumer. Due to that I ended up with a bike that had a worn out inner tube. A half hour into my ride my back wheel was fompletely flat. I called them up which is what it said I should do on the receipt and they told me they would cover the expense of getting a new inner tube. I got it fixed and came back in and their whole story changed! They said they wouldnt cover me because I didnt purchase their extra insurance. I would say their customer service is less than one star. They even didn't give me key at the beginning and wanted to charge. We returned the three bikes on time, and argued with them for 10 minutes. They just forced us to check out and charged 20 dollars for the lost key and almost 30 dollars for the extra minutes. They have ridiculous reason for the extra charge. when we didn't check out when we were arguing, so they need to charge for the extra minutes. I rented rollerblades from this location and had a great experience! I paid $25 for a full day rental - it was a quick walk over to Central Park and I was able to enjoy several hours rollerblading in the park. They offered pads, wrist guards, and a helmet for free and the customer service was quick and friendly! read more

We were left very disappointed with our experience and I will briefly explain the various reasons why: Firstly we had to wait 30 minutes to get our bikes in a very uncomfortable, crowded and hot room . Secondly we were given a helmet that didn't fit our 1 year old daughter and had to insist that they find a better one. Thirdly the basket for our bike was very shonky and actually fell off my bike while I was riding nearly toppling me and my 4 yr old son off.. Finally, we returned our bike late by 40 minutes and were charged 4x the additional hour rate. The reason given was that we had hired 4x items (2 bikes, an infant seat and a trailer). I conveyed my shock at the additional charge with the staff member and was rudely dismissed that this was their policy and I had to pay otherwise they would not return my drivers license to me... I was prepared to pay the extra hour for the two bikes but seriously that is just extortion to charge us the fee equivalent to four bikes and enforce this by threatening not to give my license back. VERY disappointing. For the above reasons it is with regret that I simply can't recommend this business to others. It seems the only great thing about our experience was Central Park itself, and obviously the bike hire business can take no credit for that. Next time I will be looking elsewhere to the various other bike hire companies. I will be watching with great interest if the business managers monitor this post as it would be good to know if this extortion of their customers is common practice in their business model. read more

Horrible experience! They don't know what customer service means. I returned the bike in time to the stand but it took me a long time to get to the end of their long counter queue and they decided to charge $14 extra and didn't even ask me before they charged my card. The guys at the counter were quite rude as well and we're not willing to listen to me. The bikes itself weren't tested properly either - baskets falling off, no stands on the bike etc. Biking in Central Park is great fun though and so we did have a good time. Never renting from this place again though. read more

Not only is it a great little exercise to ride a bike around the Central Park for 6 miles (not really that intense), but had a great time soaking in the information behind this truly an amazing park right in the middle of the concrete jungle. For the first time I decided to rent a bike in Central Park. This was one legit place I would recommend to anyone who is a first time renter. I must say it is far more cheaper to reserve a bike online. It only costs $20 per person for a whole day! They also give free helmets, if needed, and free baskets, locks, and a map of Central Park and the bike lanes. Biking through the park is a great joy because you get to experience more of what Central Park has to offer rather than walking. It is a great workout for your legs and lower core. This store is pretty busy and gets crowded but the lines move fast. read more

Upon arriving at the meeting spot in Central Park, we learned that Central Park Sightseeing doesn't have enough carriages to support the number of customers they have, which resulted us in waiting (in the cold) for nearly an hour. To add insult to injury, we save countless (like 20) unoccupied carriages, ready to give us a ride... Unfortunately, these weren't Central Park Sightseeing carriages, so we had to continue waiting. We had groupon tickets for 10.00 for 2 hour bike rental. It was a great idea. Bikes were in good shape. Baskets, locks&key, and helmets were free upon request. Staff was super friendly. We rode through Central Park on our own. It was fantastic. Would definitely rent from here again if ever in NYC wanting to tour central park. They will try to charge you for damages etc at the end. They will also try to sell you insurance at the beginning. There's a few other bike places that are better that's closer to Central Park. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE! The bikes are not maintained for safety, the "owner" (if thats who he really was) is money hungry to the point of listlessness, and the customer service was so bad I would have given it a 0 out of 5 stars if I could. The price of the rentals in advance ($7/hr) is what I attracted me to this bicycle rental shop, but you definitely get what you pay for. What you save in price you sacrifice in service and any sense of safety. My mother and I rented bikes from this place and one of the bikes unbeknownst to us was broken. We rode for an hour worry free aside from some clinking and some stalling. I am a your average amature rider and could not identify the sound of a problem. I figured they were frequently used bikes and should probably not be overly taxed with high speed riding. I kept at a very slow pace (slower than jogging passersby) and focused on seeing the sights. A professional bicyclist who was passing by heard the sound said it wasnt safe to ride and advised me to get off the bike. About 3 seconds later the pedals stopped working and the chain of the bike fell of the track almost sending me head first into the concrete. Another professional bicyclist stopped and fixed the chain for me. The bike chain then came of the track 5 more times in 10 minutes. Apparently the chain was stretched and was very dangerous for a rider particularly when going down hill. After trying everything imaginable to work through this problem I called the bike rental office to let them know what was going on. They were quick to interrupt my safety concern to inform me that I would still need to pay the balance of the bill for the remaining 45 minutes even though I would not be able to ride the bike back. They also said it would be inconvenient to pick us up and they wouldn't be able to pick us us for another 40 minutes. They told us repeatedly that bike was fine and that all the bikes were fine. Because they emphasized that it would be inconvenient to pick us up we decide to walk back carrying the bike most of the way. When we came back and told the office that the bike was faulty, they put the chain back on the bike and rented it to the next customer despite our protest that it needed to be serviced and was unsafe. When we asked Jon, who claimed to be the owner and manager, for a prorated charge for the second hour (in which we were only able to ride uninhibited for 10 minutes) we were interrupted, berated, and threatened. We were told that they didnt have time to hear about bicycle safety problems when there were other customers to serve. My mother ended up in tears and we were both terribly afraid for the tourist who walk away with that death trap of a bike I had just risked my life on in the park. Renter beware! read more

My BF and I took a trip to NYC for my birthday, and as a special treat made a reservation with this company for a carriage ride thru Central Park.. He paid a deposit and printed his confirmation email to bring along. The night of my birthday, we went to the address on the conf email and no one was there; just the sign for the company. The only phone number he had was one that said " in event of emergency only" so we called. No answer ! So we walked on to CP thinking we misunderstood and should meet them there. We asked several carriage drivers there and no one had ever head of them. Luckily there was one available who offered to give us a better ride at a better deal. It was awesome- no thanks to Central Park Sightseeing. They almost ruined my birthday! For the record, today makes on week and still no return call or even an email inquiring about the fact that we didn't "show up" for our carriage ride. read more

Vincent was incredibly rude. Their bike was faulty, we had to walk one of the bikes back to the location causing us to be late. We explained the situation to them, and they still charged us. The rationale for them upholding their late charge policy was that we were 46 minutes late. But we were 46 minutes late because of their bike...makes a lot of sense. They weren't understanding of the situation at all. I'd find another place to rent your bike. read more

Wow, what a gem in the middle of the city. So much to see that we need to come back many times to see all that the park has to offer. Beware of those Chinese massage people. They are pushy and horrible. I left with my back tweaked! I had to go back to the hotel and roll out my back and stretch it out. Worst experience ever! We purchased a Living Social deal here, and while we enjoyed our time once we were out with a bikes, the rental and return process made it not worth the hassle. They have a small store, that had no ventilation, which makes a big difference on hot days. The line took forever, at it was more than 20 minutes until we were able to pay, and then a second line took another 10 minutes to finally get our bikes. Then, when we returned our bikes, we had to wait in line again to get our id back. Would not return here. read more

We rented bikes from here for a 2 hour tour of Central Park. We opted to make our own tour so we found a deal on Groupon for 50% off rentals and booked on line the night before. The 2 hour rental for 4 of us with insurance was less than $50. A fantastic value, considering the cost includes a basket, helmet and lock. The shop is just 2 short blocks from Central Park so getting there was a breeze. The staff was fantastic and the check in and check out process was quick and painless. The bikes were in excellent condition and they even had a kids bike for my 10 year old daughter. Overall, the experience exceeded my expectations and a bike ride through the park is a definite must while in NYC. read more

I had such an amazing 1st time experience with Central Park Sightseeing. From the minute I stepped foot into the store, to my experience in the carriage to the end of the ride was everything I had hoped for. I had a few friends in town visiting from out of state and one of the owners who is the sweetest person ever made sure we had the best person guiding us. When we stepped foot onto the carriage, our guide gave us the rolled out red carpet tour, talking about Manhattan and all of the wonderful cool things that has happened in the park and other areas of the city.
