With a ten minute walk each way, I was out of my apartment at 7:15PM and back by 8:05PM-a short wait, eye exam, and glasses choosing in less than an hour! This was probably the fastest, easiest, and most pleasant eye exam I have ever had. All of the staff is friendly and accommodating. The exam was very quick, and Dr. White explained everything that was happening and at 7:30PM on a Monday, took the time to answer my questions. I even got to see pictures of the inside of my eye and avoid the horrid dilating/puffing process for an extra $40 something. Definitely worth it since I have a terrible fear of things near my eye, and l admittedly love seeing pictures of my various inner workings! Even testing the pressure in my eyes wasn't as unpleasant as I am used to. Just a few drops and a quick touch and some beeping. I think it took me only about 10 minutes to choose glasses because even their cheap/mid range ones are all good looking. There are no hideous plastic 80's granny frames. For about $250 I was able to get a nice pair of glasses that I absolutely love and have the flexible frames. I don't think I have ever even liked a pair of glasses since my face doesn't hold them well, but these are very geek-chic. Considering I hated my last pair, and they were over $500 for frames and lenses, I couldn't be happier. Obviously they are more expensive than the chains, but I think it was worth it for the service and quality of the products. read more

The staff seemed nice enough when I went in. However, afterward, I was unable to obtain my medical records. The receptionist gave me a runaround with various excuses, claiming that it was the equivalent of releasing a prescription, and that no covering doctor could release records, and my particular doctor would not be available for a week. What reputable institution requires a doctor's permission to see your own medical records? What are they afraid of?? (No, they were not asking my permission for release of my records -- they were asking for a doctor's release) Most other places you can log in yourself and get your own records. What reputable institution leaves patients without coverage for a week at a time? Sorry, I need to be able to access my own medical records. My bad for choosing a low-budget place with random policies or poorly trained employees. read more

i was a customer at central square eye care. when i was in the doctor on staff was amazing Dr. Karen Lewis. she helped me to determine why i was having so many complications with my prescription and got me seeing clearly. after my appointment i went to pick out some glasses the gentleman who helped me George was very knowledgeable and was able to get me into a pair of glasses that not only fit my face properly but worked to help me. after i spend a large amount of money then choose to either not make or not order my glasses. i got a call about 3-4 weeks later saying my glasses were there. upon pick up they weren't and they had no knowladge of my order being placed at this point i spoke to the owner and he stated that this would be handled right away and i would have an eta by 12pm the next day i waited all day and got no call from the office so i called them around 5pm and no luck they still had no information. at this point i asked for my money back which they refused. i honestly GAVE UP on this place I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN NOR WILL MY FAMILY read more

I liked Dr. White--friendly and hospitable, but found an optometrist who does not charge for both exam and contact lens fitting. The size and shape of my eyes has not changed in years---so I can understand some sort of assessment for whether or not a different kind of contact lens brand (something new) might be in order but Central Square Eye Care overcharges for it. Most other places I called only charge you for what's called a contact lens exam, but CSEC charges for both that and a "fitting" which seems redundant. So I switched. read more

Dr. White and the team at Central Square Eye Care took the time to try a variety of different contacts on my eyes. I have mid to severe astigmatism. They understood that I am detail focused and that slight differences in the lenses make a big difference to me. They tried many different kinds of lenses, finally ending up with a different brand for each eye. Dr. White's experience fitting contacts on "hard to fit" eyes was clear. I suggest anyone who has had issues finding a contact lens to fit both eyes, especially with astigmatism, should give Dr. White a try. read more

Progressive lenses -- something odd the first time... second set was better but one eye points in a different direction than the other. Are you kidding me? I went here immediately after being approved for health insurance (and vision insurance) through Commonwealth Care. I lost my glasses about a year and a half ago and had not been able to afford to replace them until I had insurance with vision coverage again - So I was very excited to be going here, and passed through their doors in a cheerful mood! (I went primarily because I found good reviews for them on Yelp!) I saw Dr. Geoffrey White, who did a thorough but not particularly friendly vision exam on me -- He just seemed very bored by what he was doing and was not very responsive to my questions...Telling me that we would get to the issue I brought up later, etc. (I believe I was one of his first patients of the morning, so, perhaps he was just getting warmed up for the day-?) I don't particularly mind a brusque optometrist (at least he's not my primary care provider!), but I do think that many people would like the person who's peering at their body to put them a bit more at ease. The assistant who helped me pick out a frame was very attentive and interested in my decision - Which I appreciated...Although I do wish the frames had been labeled (or sorted a bit more clearly) with prices, so that I would not have spent time on lenses that cost more than I could pay! In the end, my choice of frames was heavily influenced by the assistant's recommendations/urging...Which I now regret a bit (I'm not too enthused about the frames anymore), but that's really my own fault for not sticking up for my style preferences when the assistant told me that the frames I liked looked "nerdy". My experience at Central Square was by no means bad, and I can't say that they did anything wrong -- I'm extremely grateful to have insurance at all, and I'd accept almost any type of care in order to have it! I just know that, in the past, I've received optometry care that made me feel more comfortable and fit my communication and style preferences better. read more

They were amazing. When my glasses scratched the first week, they gave me new lenses with no hassle. And when I was having difficulty with far vision due to a screw up with my optometrist (not theirs), once again free lenses. They took the time to look up my insurance info to confirm what was covered and how much. They went above and beyond to make sure I had the correct lens (they actually had to reorder them) and did multiple fittings for my glasses until I was satisfied. I recently found myself on a month-long trip without enough contact lenses, so I called Dr. White. Although my prescription was out of date, he called the prescription into a local optometrist for me immediately! When I returned from my trip, I came in for an eye exam with Dr. White -- and two days later, my contact lens order was ready for me to pick up. Sadly, the lab managed to break one of the nose pads on my (old, but well-loved) frames while replacing the lenses with my new prescription, and Dr. White called me himself to get the manufacturer name so that he could tell the lab how to fix them. In case the lab couldn't repair my own frames, Dr. White also offered me a big discount on new frames. I don't normally give anything 5 stars, but Central Square Eye Care deserves it! While I live in the Boston area, I'll never go anywhere else. read more

The staff is so friendly and warm here. I was about to buy my first pair of frames at Optical Shop of Aspen in the mall, but the staff was so stuck up and condescending. It was so bad that I walked out in the middle of paying. I went to Central Square Eye Care the next day and was greeted with a smile. I tried on nearly every pair and finally found one, just not in the color I wanted. So, the lady had the color I wanted sent to the store so I could try them on. I ended up buying those pair a few days later. Really great service and they have a great selection of high-end frames (Oliver Peoples, Paul Smith). read more

I couldn't be more happy with these guys. I don't buy glasses often, so when it was time for a new frame I made a point to go around and find a pair that I really loved. I visited 7 shops in the area, and CSEC really stood out as having the best selection and prices. They don't have a huge variety of frames, but all of their frames looked like true quality pieces, as opposed to some other shops. Also, everyone that works there is really nice and actually helpful. I was trying to decide between two pairs, one of which was much more expensive, and they actually dug through their backstock and found a pair that was very similar to the more expensive one, but about one-third of the price. I started going here several years ago when a roommate worked there, but I've kept on because I always have good experiences there, and they work with my insurance. They always go out of their way to help me figure out how to maximize what I get for my yearly insurance allotment. I would have given central square eye care more stars if their office staff were a little more friendly and helpful. Dr. White is great, very professional and knowledgeable. However, his weekend staff members were less than competent and I received the runaround when I was simply trying to use my insurance benefits. the lady who fits people for frames was too busy talking about chocolate (and being EXTREMELY superficially friendly, like they all are at that office) to realize the frames she was selling me didn't fit my head at all. she didn't even measure. now, five months later, two trips back attempting to readjust the framed to my face, and $300 dollars later, my glasses don't fit my head and i have head aches all the time because they are way too small. when i look down, my glasses fall off my face the way they are bent out. it was only when i went to florida to see my mom that she took pity on me and took me to the eye doctor there to get me a real pair of glasses. read more

I went to get my eye exam there. The receptionist was not friendly. I had just gone to check whether I had eyeglasses. They wanted to do excessive number of tests which according to them are not required by the state or federal laws, but because "that's just how we run this practice". I even asked them that I will be willing to sign the waiver, but they were not willing to forego the tests. To me, essentially they are not differentiating between me, a healthy 32 year old and a 55 year old with diabetes who probably needs a regular dialation and glucoma test. This is what is wrong with the health-care system. Its like getting a colonoscopy done for annual physical. It just doesn't make sense. I told him I was not ready to do it and he said he would not be able to recommend anything as his practice needs we do all the required tests. I told him to cancel all what he did and I will go to another optometrist. This is how healthcare costs increase!!! Unnecessary tests!! read more

a lot of these eye doctor places seem to pressure you into buying something and tack on charges to appointments but not here. dr. white was great and thorough. this was my second time being there in the past 5 years and although he could have charged me for everything all over again like most places he didnt charge me for the things that hadnt changed. i appreciate the small things like that so i was expecting to pay $100+ for the appointment instead was only $60. only 4/5 because while the frame staff was awesome and relaxed and genuinely helpful, there were not many frames for my huge melon head. read more

I went to Central square eye care on the recommendation of a colleague, I have been wearing lenses since I was in high school and glasses since I was 6. I have been to many doctors and this place was the worst. First of all the Dr. White could not prescribe me correct lenses. He also told me that my power had increased (in fact it had not, I went to get them tested at the Joslin Diabetes center). When I called to cancel my lenses order the person at the desk (George) said that the order was cancelled, but the next day I got a call that my lenses had arrived and I need to pick them up. When I asked for a refund I didn't get one, but was given credit, so I had to purchase $200 worth of glasses. I only got a refund for one eye $200 because I could not see properly ( since the power was too high) anyway, I will not recommend this place to anyone, they just charge you a ton of money and have a very poor service. read more
