A friend and I came on an unseasonably warm day in October so we hit the rooftop, which on a Sunday was not crowded which was perfect for the two of us to catch up and relax. The drinks were delicious and the space is nice. I wish I hadn't had a drink with brunch before or I would have tried another drink here, but I will just have to come back. Stopped in for a couple of drinks at the bar about 9 PM on Saturday night. The bartender was great and our drinks were really good. Unfortunately one of the young ladies who was supposed to be clearing tables was posted up at the corner of the bar endlessly complaining to a friend about how overworked she is and how nobody does as much as she does and on and on. On a random Saturday, my husband and I bought a Groupon and stopped in for an afternoon of day drinking. We were lucky enough to stop in on National Puppy Day, so there were dogs galore. Alll the puppies. I loved it. We had a few cocktails while we waited for the tour to start, and they were well prepared. The interior is really cool, and I could see stopping by here in the summer and sitting on the patio. The tour itself was decent, the guide was obviously very knowledgeable and made it entertaining. But the spirits themselves were just okay. No shade, but there are other distilleries in Milwaukee I would prefer to visit again. They do killer, killer cocktails with their spirits, the space is lovely and bright and right on the "Second Street strip," the folks that own and work there are super-nice... what more could you want out of a local distillery, really? In the same building and adjacent to MKE Brewing, this could be a dangerous two-fer for tourists. Be careful with all this awesomeness, non-Milwaukeeans. I went on a tour with a few other Yelpers. The facility is small, but really well thought out. The wood work is re-purposed from an old Amish Barn. In fact one of the craft cocktails is named for Ned Yoder, the Amish farmer whose barn supplied the wood. Currently, Central Standard has three products, a vodka, a gin, and a clear whiskey. We sampled all three and all three were very good. They are all made as small batches and all bottled by hand. The vodka had a vanilla undertone, some tasted chocolate. It was smooth and tasted great, whatever the flavor was. I could drink it on the rocks or neat, which I can't say about another vodka. It's exciting to see another distillery in town, and I expect this one also has a bright future. read more

Thanks to a recent Yelp get-together, I was finally able to make it in to Central Standard Craft Distillery. I was not disappointed! The staff here is fantastic. They are super friendly and helpful, and they are very knowledgeable about the different spirits that they offer. They have a lovely bar and seating area, with a small tasting room off to the side. I was able to sample their whiskey, vodka, and gin while I was there. I thoroughly enjoyed all three.The whiskey is actually a White Whiskey. The difference between white whiskey and bourbon style whiskey is in the aging process. White whiskey is not aged as long as the bourbon style whiskey is. The gin has a sweetness to it. And the vodka is distilled from 100% rye grain, which gives it a flavor that has both spiciness and frutiness to it. All of the spirits go down very smoothly. What's really neat about Central Standard is that all of their spirits are hand crafted, and are produced in small batches. The owners feel that by producing their spirits in smaller batches, they keep the quality of the flavor high. The gin, whiskey, and vodka are all available for purchase. I bought the gin on this outing, and plan on purchasing the whiskey the next time I'm here. Central Standard offers tours on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. They only have 15 slots available per tour time, so booking ahead online is highly recommended. The tours are $10 per person. read more

Had a good time down here this past weekend. Great set up and amazing looking on the inside. Nice beer selection but maybe a big over top with the MKE selection even with them bring next door to one another. Tastings were good. Vodka was smooth and the Gin had less of the typical pine needle taste to it. The white whiskey was the odd one. Never tried one before so it may just take some getting used to. The service was efficient and friendly. They had a nice waitress that took time to explain more to me about the distillery then the bartender did. read more

Decided to visit here after a recommendation from a co-worker who also has a passion for bourbon and vodka distilleries. I found a Groupon that offered a tour/tasting, 2 cocktail glasses, and a bottle of Central Standard Vodka for $35.00 so I couldn't turn it down! Upon arriving, we weren't greeted and were a bit confused on the process to check in for the tour. Upon eavesdropping on a fellow couple, we figured out we had to go to the bar to get wristbands and guidance to where to wait. Our tour guide was Tyrone, and he was knowledgeable, well-spoken, and willing to interact with other customers. We were able to have tastings of their vodka, gin, bourbon, coffee-vodka, and chocolate-mint brandy. The two alcohols that stood out was the Anodyne infused coffee vodka and bourbon. Both fantastic and the bourbon reminded me of Maker's Mark. The only two negatives I can find on the distillery tour that it wasn't a "tour." We didn't move, and stayed in one place while learning about the process of making each alcohol and doing different tastings. Secondly, there wasn't enough space for each pairing to stand next to their drink. The couple next to us and another one had to stand behind other people, struggling to hear and interacting with Tyrone. In conclusion, the distillery rocked and we enjoyed our first distillery/brewery tasting in Milwaukee. I thought the vodka outshone every other that I have tried including Great Lakes Distillery and Twisted Path. Makes a great vodka and tonic. Definately will be back for a drink. P.S. This is not at all what I was expecting when I planned a tasting night out with a group of friends. The atmosphere for the "tasting" was barely tolerable at best. It was held over a long plank of wood, which was open to the "distillery". Music was loud, no one in the back of our group could hear Any of the presentation. Our guide was knowledgable. But the whole experience for the money was awful. I was embarrassed, as everyone's consensus was it was a joke. The spirits we tasted were subpar at best. I would not recommend , nor will we ever go back. I'm sure there are far more professional tours available at other distilleries. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth. My husband and I have never been to Central Standard nor have we tasted any of their liquors. We came across a Groupon for a tasting with a free bottle of vodka. We couldn't pass it up! Central Standard is a nice small distillery. The distiller, Nick(I think that was his name), was very informative and funny. He knew a lot about the product he was making. My husband and I didn't get a chance to try and if their house cocktails but we will return to try them. We would definitely recommend the coffee vodka, it was really good! The reason I did not give it five stars is because it was pretty loud and hard to hear during the tasting. I would suggest a microphone or turning down the music a bit. read more

I am updating my review. We have been coming to Central Standard for a few years now. The last two summers we would stop in every weekend. The last two times we have been there the bar staff has not been friendly. We stopped in last Friday and attempted to say hi and introduce ourselves to the bartender working (since it seems to be all new people) and he wasn't having it, he was way more concerned with hanging out with his visiting friends and eating pizza and salad. The girl that was working a few weeks before that was pretty much the same story. It's very sad because we used to have so much fun here and the staff was amazing. read more

We were here for a closed event (rehearsal dinner). The bartenders were very knowledgeable and their menu was fairly creative. The Milwaukee mule was awesome and so was their bourbon old fashioned. The in-house spirits are pretty tasty. Granted I did not try any straight, but they complemented the cocktails well. The space is really cool. The only downside for us was the high top tables. They had no standard size tables so the handicapped people in our group had to be accommodated with spare folding chairs they had in the back. read more

We got the Amish chicken and the steak the meats were cooked well however the pairings to the proteins were awful. Steak had chimichurri and a green dill sauce. too over powering and ruined the flavors of the steak. The chicken was too sweet. it came paired with Kale and squash but not balanced so even the chicken was sweet. Every single thing on the chicken plate bite was sweet. We stopped here on our pedal tavern tour. I bought the Milwaukee Mule cocktail. It was very good. My friend got the cherry mule, it delicious as well. I do suggest trying the cherry, it has a less of a strong taste of fresh ginger and is different than any mule you've probably had before. Another friend got the coffee vodka and bailey's. It was so good she bought a large bottle of the coffee vodka to bring home! My other friend spent $5 on a old fashioned. I do not suggest getting this drink: 8 if our friends in the group each tried it and each stating it tasted like rubbing alcohol and no one wanted a second sip. On a positive note, the building has comfortable tables and bar area with a open garage style entrance (except floor to ceiling size). The service was excellent. The drinks were tasty. The atmosphere was nice. The portion sizes were ridiculous. The burger was 4 oz. The other entrees and appetizers were very small. I am not a big eater but we all left hungry. When our kind waiter asked if he could bring anything, we wanted to say, "yes, the rest of the food." If you want bread and butter with your meal, you have to pay for it. I would recommend for drinks but not for the expensive tiny food portions. read more

This super cute space has become a required stop in walkers point. Great cocktails made with local ingredients are enough to get me in the door, but they also do a tour! The tour isn't so much a tour as it is history of the business and a liquor tasting bit isn't that what we all want anyway? Our host Sara(h?) was delightful. Drinking room temp liquor by itself? Small, craft cocktail place that's good to grab a fancy cocktail or beer. I've been to a few of these places now, and they're pretty fun places to at least grab a drink with some friends. Being a distillery, they'll have some white whiskey on the menu. If you're not familiar with white whiskey, it's very raw tasting, as it hasn't sat and aged in a barrel. Myself, I prefer the good old bourbon, so it wasn't really for me. They do share a wall with MKE brewing (I think this place took some of the space from the brewery, but I have to confirm that), so you're sure to find some cheap MKE brews on the menu. If you're going to stop here at central standard, try to taste a few different things...or get a flight if it's available. It IS a craft distillery, so it would be a crime to not try different things. read more

They offered a nice cocktail list made with their White Whiskey, Gin, or Vodka. I ordered the Ernest Hemingway (gin, lemon juice etc), and I enjoyed it very much. They have a good amount of affordable cute merchandise - even some local cheeses and meats! The tour included a shot tasting of each of the three liquors, and take home tumbler for $10 ($11 if you book ahead of time online). read more

Love love love Central Standard. Learning about the distillery is cool, but I honestly just love it as a great bar to hang out in. They mix some fantastic cocktails, one I loved so much I tried to make it at home (and failed miserably, but hey I tried) but I think I need to leave it to them to make. I am definitely nowhere near as good as they are. I would definitely recommend the old fashioned or there is a newer cocktail with a coffee vodka, I can't remember the name of it but it was minty and wonderful and you should try it. Th bartenders and owners are some of the nicest dudes ever too. If you're there and get to chat to any of them ask them about how the bar came together! There are some cool stories about the place, for example the wood on the walls are from a barn somewhere in Wisconsin! I think Central Standard really created a great space... but I can't help but think of it more as a bar than an actual distillery. The focus is so much more on the bar space than creating a "tasting room" type atmosphere. I understand that they are still very new and space is limited, but I'd take away the TVs and bring the focus to the product. Speaking of the product... I just don't really care for the flavors that are coming through in the spirits. The sweeter, vanilla flavor in the vodka just wasn't my thing. The Gin has a really unique taste unlike other gin you may have had... it also wasn't my thing. The white whiskey has that forward, in your face alcohol taste you'd expect - but there are sweeter, mellow undertones that come through. It was different for sure, and probably my favorite out of the three. I hear that they are working on rye and bourbon... I am definitely intrigued to see what they come up with. But for now - I could see myself going back to hang out in a great space and maybe enjoy a MKE Brewing Co. beer that is on tap and watch the game. read more
