We really enjoyed our visit here on a recent Saturday evening. We sat at the bar and were taken care of by Tyler & Co. Good cocktails-the Old and in the Way was my choice. The lamb lollipop was a great start-it's one chop, so I recommend one per person...you won't be disappointed-sauce and accompaniments were right on, and served over a mini saganaki. Short rib pasta was solid, while the pork chop was excellent. Chili oil infused sauce was just the right amount of heat, while pureed black beans with fried plantains on top went with it well. Great atmosphere. Love the layout and cozy place. It was a bit noisy in there and hard to hear my partner, but the group next to us was large and have a good time, so I'll chalk it up to that. I ordered the mushroom ragu and loved it. I had plans to take some home but before I knew it, I looked down and it was almost gone. A very impressive NA menu as well which was really nice to see. I'm honestly blown away that I've never been to Buckley's before... because this place is phenomenal. From the moment we walked in, the experience was excellent. We started with cocktails at the bar, and Tyler crafted some truly beautiful drinks. Thoughtful, balanced, and made with care... such a great way to kick off the evening. Once seated in the dining room, our server was attentive, warm, and lovely. We began with the carpaccio and a fall-harvest style salad (can't remember the exact name)... both were absolutely delicious. For mains, we shared three dishes, and I genuinely can't pick a favorite... they were all outstanding. The prosciutto-wrapped halibut with mushroom risotto was rich and perfectly executed. The roasted squash and broccoli over peanut mole was unique, flavorful, and beautifully plated. And the housemade pappardelle with shrimp, fennel, and nduja was perfection... fresh pasta with incredible depth of flavor and a spicy kick. Such a cool place! I love the vibe and decor here - very Gatsby/ Art deco. Our server, Faith, was oversat but was pleasant. Our waitress was awesome and the food was just as great!! The empanadas were an amazing start and knew we were in for a treat for the rest of the meal! They have the best pork chop in Milwaukee. Yes I said it!! David and I both agreed that the salmon was great but the pork chop was absolutely incredible. Only thing I would pass on are the drinks. My partner and I had a craving for dessert and remembered a friend of ours shared that they had recently gotten a really great piece of carrot cake at buckley's! It was a Friday night so we called to ask about availability and they said they'd be able to seat us in 30 min. We drove over and were greeted by the hostess and waiter who took our order. The carrot cake was nice and fluffy and had a great frosting on it, not super sweet but sweet enough. I had a seasonal pumpkin cognac cheesecake that was extremely tasty as well. We stopped in for a bite after spending some time at Agency for drinks. We had the steak tartare, the spicy vodka pasta and the octopus tostada. Part of our party had the house burger and fries and also another steak tartare. Firstly the dedicated server was fantastic. She was all smiles, kind, helpful and made our experience very pleasant. Our group shared these three items for tastes. The tostada was not my favorite. The octopus overwhelmed the tostada and it didn't work for me. The vodka pasta was not spicy. It had a mild little nudge that said "hello- do you notice me?" It wasn't spicy. Which may be perfect for someone who does not care for spice. But, I appreciate spice and missed it. The steak tartare was delish. Beautiful and tasty. The house burger and fries and other steak tartare were throughly enjoyed by our dinner mates. TL:DR - decent execution of poorly designed recipes. Wow- I really don't get it. I mean, I was underwhelmed 13 years ago, but I figured if Buckley's stayed in business this long, they must be doing something right. Right? And who knows, maybe they are. Maybe January 3, 2026 was just the B team in the kitchen, or an off night, or I just have bad luck; whatever the case, I don't know if anyone could convince me to give it a third try. Unironically, our server seemed completely unenthused about the whole menu; I guess I now understand why, because I would probably have to be honest about it too if I was a server. Some of the issues were the cooking that was done tonight, but I would say 90% of the failures were from the original recipes themselves, including cocktails. The execution was actually pretty decent, but you can't polish a turd, as the kids say. As a result, it's not like we could really send anything back, right? Like what am I going to say, this dish sucks, please have the kitchen reinvent it for me? I found myself wondering if the menu was drafted by a skilled writer instead of a chef. Just to legitimize this review, since everybody seems enthralled by this place, I feel inclined to list off everything I tried between my orders and those of my dining companions, with notes. So here goes: Focaccia - house made, tall, good airy crumb, served cold with nothing else, which left what should've been a crusty top kinda just chewy - very boring, bland, basic, and I suggest you go get some focaccia at Birch if you want something memorable. Carpaccio - best food of the night for sure, but still just a 7-8 out of 10 for me. Again, for the price point just go get something way better elsewhere, like Morel. Carrots- flavorless carrots swimming in some kind of fat. Butter, I guess, since it congealed on my plate when it got cold. I can't really judge if they hit the target of what they were aiming for with this one, because I couldn't tell what they were even trying to do. Empanadas- what the fuck. Just don't, honestly please don't order these. Go to literally anywhere else that sells empanadas if you want empanadas. The nicest thing I can say about them was that I could tell they were definitely food. Go try empanadas from chef Ana at Cavas, or go to Cocina Del Sur, or even La Masa, hell, go get some from the deli case at El Rey, or try making them yourself without a recipe and I swear they'll be better than these. Salmon with wasabi caviar- the salmon was cooked beautifully. There was little flavor in the fish itself, even the wasabi caviar was bland, I don't even know how. The whole thing was served on plain, unseasoned white rice. Honestly I think this was the most uninspired dish imaginable. I truly can't comprehend how this one made the menu. Bucatini carbonara- I guess it technically had all the elements found in carbonara. There are enough Italian places in Milwaukee, you could throw a rock in any direction and break a window of a place serving a better carbonara; this one, like most of our food, lacked flavor and needed salt. Chicken Marsala- ok this one actually had some flavor. I only had a bite, but after trying all the above, I was definitely jealous of my friend who ordered something that didn't need salt (or a complete throw-it-in-the-trash overhaul) Cocktails were also just not very good. The gin curry thing had so much potential, but really fell flat and just tasted like a curry-ass cup of gin. I had a mezcal drink that was just ok. Dessert was a resounding "Nope" from everyone at the table. We wouldn't have said no to a complimentary dessert, as our server knew we were celebrating a birthday, but there was nothing noteworthy done by anyone at the restaurant other than a quick "happy birthday" verbalized at the start. We certainly weren't going to pay money for more food after what we had experienced to that point. read more

My favorite thing about Buckley's is the bar and the carrot cake! I love the ambiance- very romantic. Dim lighting, candles, soft music as background noise, and modern nouveau decor. And the cocktails are always great- the bartenders are very knowledgable and know how to make a good drink. The bartenders are also friendly and listen to their customers. If there's something specific you're looking for, they'll take the time to make it! The carrot cake is AMAZING!!! I love all of their desserts but that one is my favorite. Most of the dinner entrees are also very good. I love their salad options and salmon. The carrots in maple brown butter are delicious. My only complaints are 1. The parking and 2. My husband and I came here on a Saturday evening recently for just a date night and to try out a new place and I'll just cut right to the chase: it was FANTASTIC. We had made reservations ahead of time and while I would still recommend that, there were a couple tables next to the us that were empty almost the whole time we were there. It overall looked like a busy place though and I can definitely see it filling up especially on the weekends! We were seated right away. The interior is very beautiful, modern, and clean. It wasn't too loud and it was easy to have a conversation without having to strain. Hunter was our waiter and he took great care of us! I started with a gin and elderflower cocktail whose name I can't remember now and my husband got the Old and In the Way - both were amazing. Mine was sweet and floral - perfect for summer and a very easy sipper! My husband's was a bit more liquor-forward, but tasty in its own right and he loved it. We started with the grilled broccoli. It was cooked to perfection and the sauce on it was everything. My only critique would be that it needed more sauce for my taste or alternatively a bit more salt. My husband then got the Buckley's Burger with fries on the side and I got the vodka pasta. We did ask if we could get a side of the Truffle cheese whiz to go with our fries, which Hunter made happen for only $1 extra to the bill! This homemade cheese whiz was EVERYTHING. It had the perfect amount of truffle and was the perfect dipping accompaniment to the fries. I would walk back for the cheese alone! My husband thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the burger, which looked very saucy! My vodka pasta, even though it didn't look like anything special, was very yummy. It wasn't spicy, but the flavor was very very good and the sauce was super creamy. We of course couldn't leave without dessert and I have to tell you... do NOT skip dessert! We got the seasonal cheese - a salted caramel Bailey's and chocolate cheesecake - to go, which we enjoyed at home with a homemade Italicus spritz and the only regrets we have about that is that we had to share it. It was absolutely sublime - sweet, creamy, salty, made to literal heavenly perfection. All other cheesecakes for me are ruined. The only snafu of the night was that we accidentally took both receipts at the end of the night, after which we got a call from the restaurant notifying us of the mistake. I called right away and they didn't even ask that we bring it back, only asking how much we had tipped - so so nice of them after we made the mistake! read more

Finally made it into Buckleys for dinner. I've heard so many great things about their food, but unfortunately was disappointed. We ordered the sourdough started as recommended by our server over the focaccia. It was very meh...nothing special and definitely not worth $12. The foccacia looked much better when we saw it come out to other tables. We also ordered the spicy vodka pasta and the fried artichokes. Both were good, but nothing super special...I'd say the pasta was my favorite item, but it could've used more sauce and wasn't very spicy. I have been aware of Buckley's for decades. It was a tiny place when it first opened, run by the former wife of Benji, the famed delicatessen maven. We returned last night, and Buckley's has grown exponentially. With two bars and multiple rooms, the place is huge. Somehow, the separate rooms help provide intimacy despite the square footage. Our meal reflected a system of apartheid. My wife and I were served food that was on the lower end of mediocre, but our friends' raved about their dinners. In fact, one of them proclaimed their Halibut the best seafood they ever tried. My Friday fish fry consisted of two minuscule pieces of Haddock with a bunch of tasteless fries. The pasta my spouse ordered was decidedly unmemorable. My buddy declared his steak delicious. Service was entertaining, but perhaps the fact she seemed to enjoy our friends more than us had an effect on their dinner. She proclaimed herself a licensed sommelier when I started commenting on dry rieslings from Germany and Austria. I think my commentary irked her, but I did study wine in France in the 1990s, but older men need to keep their mouths shut these days and learn to just smile and nod. Whatever, our Key Lime pie and cheesecake were not good either. We split the bill, and mine came to $247.00 with 20 % tip. I thought that expensive, but I'm old and know squat. By the way, if you use a credit card at Buckley's, you get charged 3%. read more

Great food and fun atmosphere! I've stopped by for drinks but this was my first time getting food and it was great! Beautifully decorated interior and outside tables as well. We started with the Silky Collins and the Jupiter Jazz. Fun cocktails before splitting the empanadas. They had 2 fresh sauces that paired well together. Perfect for sharing. For entrees we get the spicy vodka sauce pasta and burger with truffle fries. Pasta was the perfect cream to tomato ratio with a good level of spice. Burger was cooked perfectly medium rare and the fries were crispy and well seasoned. We finished with salted cheesecake and carrot cake. All made in house and were my favorite part! You definitely need to leave room for dessert. The carrot cake was the best I've ever had. The cream cheese frosting was smooth and complimented the cake well. The cheesecake was also a hit. We found ample free parking across the street on Saturday night, which was a pleasant surprise! Sat at the bar before dinner and cocktails were good but very loud space! Seated the 4 of us in front of fireplace which was much quieter and all enjoyed our meals. My lobster pasta dish had plenty of lobster, and sauce and pasta good but lacked flavor. The beet salad was delicious and large enough to share. My husband enjoyed his beef short rib with pasta, but it didn't look as expected as beef kind of hidden under the sauce. Atmosphere is great in a renovated older home, and not dark as the website pictures looked. Pleasant surprise! Lively and busy! Staff all very pleasant and professional! I also ordered the pork chop with cauliflower and chimichurri, the flavors were fantastic but the pork was a little on the dry side. It is no coincidence or stroke of luck that Buckley's has been around so long and is thriving even post-covid. They have earned their wonderful reputation and I am so glad I finally got to try their delicious food! Such a great experience! Before anything else, I have to talk about the vibes. It was a beautiful day, and part of the reason we picked Buckley's was for the patio. It's hard to provide ambiance on a patio, but they manage to make it flow perfectly. My friend and I enjoyed the oldies playlist they were playing so much - just the right combination of upbeat and chill - that we asked them which playlist they used (in case you're wondering: Wolfgang, the bartender, had "War Radio" playing on Pandora because that band was playing at Summerfest that night). We came for the carrot cake (yes, it was as divine as everyone claims it is! Best I've ever had, hands down) but stayed for the food. Here's what we got: Jupiter Jazz: I'm always a sucker for a good gin drank and this was such a fitting name for the perfect summer patio drink! We both liked it so much we had seconds Truffled fried artichokes: I thought these were going to be very crispy and greasy, but they were just the perfect combination of soft artichoke hearts and crispy edges with a hint of truffle so that it's not overwhelming and not too greasy! Also just the right portion for an appetizer to keep you satisfied while you wait for the main course Pork Schnitzel: a different approach to schnitzel, adding ground hazelnuts in the breading. An appropriate lighter fare for summer that paired well with the salad of strawberry, rhubarb and a light vinegrette. And I got a side of the parsnip cauliflower mash with it, which was fabulous White Lamb Bolognese: while everything was delicious, this was the star of the show IMO. The ground lamb paired perfectly with their light white cream sauce. It was perfectly hearty (Pasta! Lamb! Cheese!) without feeling heavy Of course the carrot cake gets a second mention because it is the bomb.com ! Also it's HUGE! We split a piece and barely finished half of it. Honestly I went to this place a couple months ago and it was awesome. The menu was amazing, especially the burger. We went last night and the whole menu was different. Their service was still nice and the waitress was very cool. But the menu was atrocious. I tried the burger again and honestly they tried to do wayyyyyy too much. It used to be a simple burger now they put elote and DORITO CHIPS. It seemed so cheap and everything did not mix. If this place reads their reviews please take that off the menu, you have ruined what used to be an awesome burger. How have I never been here before? Seriously the bartenders are some of the most knowledgeable I have met. You can ask them about any drink or particular liquor and they will know how to make it or pair it. The atmosphere is intimate and I really like sitting on the bar side. Plus you get to converse with the bartenders. There are ton of regulars here so you know it's a solid place. I shared some appetizers with a friend and we had the lamb lollipop and the truffled fried artichokes. My lamb was perfectly done and I honestly wanted another one. The fried artichokes were okay but I thought they were a bit over caramelized but that could just be a personal taste issue. With the chives, truffle oil, and parmesan I expected a little more delicate taste. The customer service is killer as well so that really makes this place special! read more

I had the pleasant opportunity to finally go to Buckley's. The service was very friendly and the seating was very appropriate for social distancing. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, without being intrusive! I knocked a star off for the price and the fact that they did not offer any gluten free options. I feel like for the price of the meals you'd think they'd cater to more dietary restrictions, but they do not. The price for one person (app, drink and entree) was $70. For what I got it seems a lot but I'll say this, the food was good! I got a bloody Mary's which was very good. I ordered the pork bolognese and the truffle artichokes. All very delicious. The bar area was hopping on a Thursday night, and I'm happy we reserved a high-top table for 2 in the bar. Felt like "the place to be," although the dining room area looked beautiful and cozy, too. Cocktails = Outstanding. I tried "The House Blanket" which was Reposado tequila with chai-infused vermouth and other complimentary vanilla & spice flavors. Wife went with red sangria. Truffle Fries were a nice starter as we perused the menu and savored our cocktails. For entrees, we shared the Faroe Island Salmon and Seafood Risotto. 6 or 7 stars out of 5 if I could! This is is an absolute gem in Milwaukee's vast food scene. Every time I make a trip up to this city, a visit to Buckleys is MUST. I originally found this spot when searching for an anniversary dinner and now visit a couple times a year. Buckleys exudes a classic, homey, and simply stunning ambiance. Set inside a residence converted restaurant, the attention to detail is clear to see, even down to the welcoming hosts at the door. Make sure to have a reservation, although I have been able to get in a few times without one, it does seem proffered. Staff is knowledgeable, kind, and attentive. Last comment on the space: perfect place to come on a cold night, perfectly warm in temperature and tone here. Eating at Buckleys is an upscale experience. On to the food: a glass of Chardonnay always accompanied my meals here. The menu is not pages long, which is a good sign that a restaurant does a select few things really well, and that's what you will find here. The menu does seem to change though. The first visit did not have this wonderful schnitzel and I was delighted to find it there yesterday. It was genuinely better than the schnitzel's I had in Germany and Austria., which still remaining authentic. A fabulous dish I would value way over the price, as it was truly excellent. Note: you may order an appetizer of bread and butter if you are looking for a little something before dinner. While I have had appetizers here in the past, yesterday we were not as hungry as times before. Cheesecake and coffee for dessert are the most appropriate way to finish up the meal and this real view. You will be hard pressed to find a better, more satisfying meal than what you will find at Buckley's. This is a family run business, but the all of the staff really seems like family too. They are attentive, dedicated and prompt to please. Buckley's has been recently expanded and renovated. They were not only able to retain the charm of the original smaller format, but also replicate it in the expanded space. Five Stars all the way! read more

Enjoyed a very romantic valentines dinner here with my boyfriend. Our waitress was very energetic and seemed to know the menu very well. We started off with the focaccia and a French onion soup which was one of the best parts of dinner. The drinks were very good as well, but on the pricy side. I had the salmon with the coconut sauce and it was very good! I don't usually like coconut but this cause was really delicious. My boyfriend had a steak dish that was phenomenal.
