Decided to try this "new to us" spot downtime en prior to heading to an Aces game. The restaurant is up a flight of stairs and cool vibe. There is a bar with stools once you come up the stairs. We started with stuffed mushrooms and cocktails. My espresso martini was delish! For dinner I had the Kobe sliders. They had a lovely texture and the caramelized onion was a nice flavorful touch. Two in our party had the salmon tacos and one had the filet tips. We also shared the Brussel sprouts. 10/10 recommend! The service is great and the food can't be beat. read more

We ended up at Sierra St Kitchen on a spur of the moment date before a Pioneer Center show. There were plus's and minuses. The server (owner?) was friendly and efficient. The food came out super slow, fortunately we left enough time. The Bruschetta was very good. The Scallops over risotto needed work. The risotto was excellent but the scallops were tough and fishy. The AC was apparently broken so the place was oppressively hot. How the staff worked through that is somewhat amazing. It could be worth another try... read more

This place is located on Sierra St. near the river. It has an indoor dining room and some tables in a fenced in area on the side walk. We walked in for dinner. The dining room was completely empty and we were told the air conditioning was broken. We opted for the side walk. The cocktails were overpriced at $18 bucks a pop but they were decent and unique. The food was good, but not great. The service was awesome. I think dinner for two and the sidewalk show cost us $240 with cocktails and desert. They added about 7 bucks to use a card. I'll give it 4 stars. Good but I feel a tad over priced. The 2 Scallop small bite plate was $20. The desert was the highlight. Don't skip it. read more

Tried Sierra St Kitchen & Cocktails for dinner and drinks before going to a movie for a date night and had a good time. We started by ordering some drinks and bruschetta. The drinks were great and tasty, but the bruschetta honestly fell a little flat - the portion felt tiny with four small raw white bread medallions and just some diced tomatoes tossed on top with a drizzle of balsamic that I overall didn't have much taste and felt lacking as an attempt at bruschetta but it was no big deal and we moved on. We also ordered the filet tips with gnocchi that took a little longer and came out with the main entrees and it was delicious. The filet tips were savory and flavorful, the gnocchi was excellent and the sauce was rich and creamy. My wife ordered the chef's pasta which turned out to be a shrimp pasta that she really enjoyed, and I ordered a spicy sausage rigatoni pasta that looked amazing but unfortunately fell short - it had a little bit of spice and everything was cooked perfectly but the noodles and meat tasted plain and the sauce was quite bland and watery and lacked any sort of seasoning. We asked for some salt which made it a little better and I finished it but would probably not order it again. Lastly, we topped the night off with the banana foster which couldn't miss. It was extremely delicious and was the perfect end to the meal. The service was exceptional and extremely pleasant which honestly boosted the experience. There was a large loud party happening and drinks and food were taking quite a bit to come out, but our server was amazing, charming, and attentive. They apologized and comped our drinks without even having to say anything and made us feel welcome and comfortable. I would come back for the service alone. Overall had a great night with delicious drinks and fantastic service with food that can be a little hit or miss and requires finding your favorites. read more

Visiting family in Reno and wanted a place for appetizers and a craft cocktail. Searched yelp and found Sierra Street kitchen decided to give it a go based on posted reviews. When we walked in, we were the only customers which was at first worrisome. Colby who we later learned was the owner greeted us with great enthusiasm and was extremely personable and had great suggestions. He placed our mind at ease. We talked a bit about cocktails as I am a Mezcal drinker, but he didn't quite have the ingredients to craft a drink to my liking. I ordered an old-fashioned, which is my go to standby. While I was enjoying the old-fashioned with the appetizers that we ordered, Colby came up to the table and said he had made a Mezcal drink for me. It was amazing. He listened to my likes and dislikes and crafted a unique blend of Mezcal and secret ingredients that I will not reveal. The drink was amazing. He shared his creation with me so I could recreate at home. Appetizers were good so we stayed for dinner. There was a little bit of confusion about the dinner order and two dishes came out too salty for our liking. Mishaps happen all the time but it's how an establishment deals with it that matters. Colby made sure we were happy with our meals and all was good. Colby is quite the wine connoisseur and we had excellent conversation about old word and new world wines. I had a wonderful dinner at Sierra St with my wife on a date night out. We came on a Friday evening before 8PM and were the only ones in the restaurant. That's not a bad thing, but it does set a certain tone for the meal with the entire staff waiting and serving just your table. Our server was great and very attentive throughout the meal. I'm a big fan of tapas and some of the items are reasonably priced, but I did find a some of the items to be a bit pricey for what you get. The Tuna Shichimi Togarashi was delicious and our pasta entree was also very good. Drinks were also excellent and our server comped us a shot of Limoncello to cap off our night. It was a very nice evening and we both left satisfied, it's a nice dining location and I hope they continue to be successful! read more

Oh my! I am way overdue for an update! I was first to review 10 years ago when they first openened. They have managed to keep it going through Covid, chef changes, and now new owners. Colby and Megan, long time employees of Sierra Street Kitchen and the sister restaurant on Skyline, have done a remarkable job of maintaining the high quality menu of tapas and small plate items. That paired with a full cocktail menu and a spectrum of wines available by the bottle and glass. My most recent visit was to attend the Tamber Bay Vineyards wine pairing dinner. From start to finish, it was an excellent experience with small plates of fish and meat beautifully paired with white and red wines. My favorites were the two fish dishes - a lite bright Sauvignon Blank with Hamachi Crudo, and a rich Chardonnay with the Butter Poached Halibut. It was also a delight to get to visit with Colby. The wife and I visited for a valentine's date night. It was a Friday so we made sure to get a reservation. The dining room isn't large so I'd recommend using the reservation link in Yelp even on a weekday. The menu consists of several regular appetizers and a few entrees with multiple specials. I get the impression that every time you visit, you could try something that wasn't offered before. I opted for the onion soup and steak bites with gnocchi. My friends and I went to Second Street Kitchen after the Potentialist Worshop Yelp Event. Their food is phenomenal. We ordered a bunch of appetizers for the three of us and loved every one. I am so sorry I didnt take pictures because were all so beautifully plated. We ordered the bacon wrapped figs, Kobe sliders, filet tips, and crab cakes. Seriously, all of them I would order again. Ty was out server and he was so funny, personable, and attentive. Brandon was managing and he came up to the table a few times to chat, which was nice. He even gave a creme brulee on the house! I'm just confused about my thoughts here. The service was pleasant enough, the ambiance was fine. The food was nice. None of it wowed me and I'm not sure why. We shared the duck tacos, duck quesadillas and Waygu burgers. The Waygu sliders were my favorite. Incredibly juicy and flavorful. The order only came with two but Brendan was happy to add another when we questioned the quantity, taking into consideration, we were a party of 3. He happily piled the tasty frites a mild high and kinda laughed about that when he delivered the dish. We appreciated this gesture. This dish was my favorite. I had previously read reviews and the word on the street regarding the beet salad got poor ratings simply for lack of product on plate. Complaints of small serving size based on price point. I chose not to order this dish based on those remarks. Funny enough, they clearly listened to their customers and bumped up the volume! A waiter walks by with this beet salad and it was beautifully plated. A very good portion size and clearly more than one beet considering there were two different color beets on the plate!! I would have happily order that beet salad based on my own eyes on that dish. I perused the wine list, although not drinking wine this afternoon and was pretty impressed. They have a very nice selection and it appears their markup is quite modest. Nice move. All in all it was a nice experience but for what ever reason, just not a wow experience. Fried up with bacon they were tasty but frying them whole made the outer two leaves crisp and the middles soft and uncooked. I'd prefer halving them first. Mushrooms. Four small mushroom caps topped with a tasty chorizo stuffing blend. Tasty but lacking in any volume. Portion way too small. Tuna: ok at best. Not flavorful or tasty I wasn't impressed. 4 small sized pieces. Shrimp: one word. BORING. Simple cocktail style shrimp that you can get at SaveMart in a ring. Unflavorful. Scallops. Good flavor but salty. 4 small scallops atop a nice risotto. Pricey for the tiny portion. Escargot: I'm biased as I love escargot. This was the star of the show but honestly it's really hard to screw up taking snails out of a can, dumping butter and garlic on top and throwing in the broiler. Beet salad: again a bit small for the price tag. Wished for more volume but it was very delicious. Filet tips were tasty and played along a cheesy gnocchi that was very rich. Tasty. Overall the service was great, bartender was fabulous, the vibe was chill and comfy. I'd definitely return for cocktails. Food....nah. Wasn't impressed. Cozy intimate setting. We get in and had a big party next to us that was very loud & obnoxious. Definitely a few drinks down for all of um. Us three (wifey, best pal, and me). We were Sat quickly having put in an open table reservation. Ty was our server and he was outstanding!!! Kind and apologetic for the noisy table next to us immediately. We had about 4 small plates and each a cocktail. Food came first followed by the drinks. I can't stop gushing about the love I have for the Kobe beef sliders! Only two per serving but melts-in-your-mouth! Not even joking I almost finished one in one bite. Meat seasoned to perfection on both the beef tips and sliders. The Cruz cocktail was made with precision. Refreshing to have shared some smiles and merriment on a Friday evening downtown. We had dinner before heading to a show at the Pioneer Theater and decided to check this place out. The food was great (fish tacos, grilled salmon and filet tips) and came out of the kitchen hot, almost as hot as we were sitting in the restaurant. I might as well have been sitting IN the cooking area. One table had a fan directed on them and once that party left the table across from of must has complained because the fan was moved and redirected at that table. First time trying this place. We came before the theater. We had high hopes, but needless to say we weren't thrilled. We got a bunch of small plates. The food was ok. It was nothing to really write home about. There was one server who also was acting as host and bartender when we were there. It looked like there was one staff in the kitchen. The place had about 11-12 tables that could be moved around to make larger tables for parties over 4 ppl. There's a small bar area that seats 8. There are a few tables near a window which they had the slider open to allow fresh air to come through. It was a bit noisier by that area with music that seemed turned up. The food came out fairly quick and was just ok. We had the bacon wrapped dates, stuffed mushrooms, Kobe sliders, and chicken tacos. The bacon wrapped dates were simple and nothing fancy. The stuffed mushrooms were good and had great flavor (probably the best of the 4 small plates). The chicken tacos were nothing special. The Kobe sliders were ok but the flavors weren't coming through; didn't get much jalapeño flavor in the jalapeño bacon jam (bacon overpowered it all) barely a goat cheese profile with it, the shoestring style fries were decent. The dirty martini was not that great which was disappointing since it's also has cocktails in their name. Martinis seem pretty common drink to make. We didn't do any entrees, but I tend to believe the small plates/starters should excite you for the main dishes. For us that unfortunately wasn't happening. Came here for my husbands 30th birthday dinner. We were seated immediately as it was completely empty. I think this has a lot to do with the location as this area of town is just slow in general. We talked about how we hope the City of Reno livens it up soon! Something new? We ordered around seven plates - I only got photos of some. The mushrooms were killer! The steak was great however the gnocchi was severely overcooked. The Brussels sprouts were good and had a nice spice! I wish they were a bit crunchier or crispy. The mac n cheese was pretty good and we ended up mixing the steak bites in with it which is what they should serve! The real winners were the bacon wrapped dates. New ownership announced with a big sign out front. Well I've got an announcement for you, the food and drinks are phenomenal. We have been here before and loved it then too. Tonight it was three salmon tacos and chicken parmesan. The tacos had the richness of the salmon with a slaw crunch. We popped into Sierra St Kitchen on the spur of the moment. We were pleasantly surprised that they were able to seat us right away as other restaurants in the area had a long wait list. The waiter was attentive, and we never had an empty glass at our table for four. He provided great recommendations, such as the lamb lollipops. The small plates were the perfect size for sharing. The stuffed dates were perfection (bacon-wrapped and cheese stuffed...the ideal combination of savory and sweet). Other highlights were the poke, filet tips, stuffed mushrooms, and the previously mentioned lamb. I felt like the shrimp and chicken wraps were a bit bland and didn't quite hit the spot. They have a full bar, so you can enjoy your meal with your favorite cocktail. The ambiance is cozy, with warm paint tones. Came here for a date night, great location and got sat right by the window. Everyone was friendly and service was prompt, before 6pm we wouldn't have needed the reservation. The quick take... great menu, good service and the chefs know what they're doing! Not cheap, but you do get quality. Details... I started with a Sierra Mule and crab cakes. They tasted absolutely perfect. For my Entree I went with the Sirloin and Shrimp which came with potatoes and vegetables. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested. I loved how well the vegetables were cooked.i feel many places in town overcook them and you end up getting a veggie that's too soft and leaning toward mushy, but not here. They broke my heart on Valentine's Day! I'm a big fan of Sierra Street Kitchen despite the awkward table seating in a cramped space, I've made it a point to visit and bring out of town guests for small bites and great cocktails. My BF made reservations for us here on Valentine's Day, it was a a pleasant surprise for me, knowing their food is usually on point and we'd be able to enjoy some yummy cocktails. However, our visit was not what I expected, far from it actually. When we arrived for our reservation, the overworked bartender, sorry my guy I feel bad that you were the only one behind the bar, crossed our name off a handwritten list and told us to choose a table. The seating had been added to and rearranged in an already very small space, so finding a comfortable spot for my 6'5" partner was precarious to say the least. Honestly even family style seating would have been more comfortable for how close the seating was. For a romantic dinner, it was difficult to have a conversation because of all the other conversations happening around you. I spent the entire dinner literally 18 inches away from someone else, facing directly at their table. After being seated, we waited a little bit to be greeted, understandable since it was quite busy. When someone came to our table, there was no greeting, welcome, explanation of the very limited menu, etc, just "have you decided?". We both ordered drinks and the server said, "What are you having for dinner?" Surprised that we were already at a full court press, we ordered an app and our entrees. Again, no "thank you" or "your drinks will be right out", nothing. Leaving us at the table without water and a dirty tablecloth. Our appetizer arrived, bacon wrapped dates with goat cheese, with the new server literally sliding plates from the stack so they landed somewhat in front of us, and planting the skewer of four tiny charred pigs in a blanket-looking things. Still waiting for our glass of champagne and cocktail, we started on the dates. Funny how they could be so charred on the outside but stone cold on the inside. Still tasty, although tiny and not appealing to the eye at all. Our drinks arrived as we finished, both were as to be expected although the champs definitely could have used a chill. When our entrees arrived, we had planned to order a bottle of wine. Our entrees were dropped by a sever with lighting speed, again no dialogue and not a chance to request the wine. We shrug and decide to dig in noticing our mains were being served on salad plates, with pretty small servings. Having skipped lunch in hopes of an amazing dinner, I was so sadly disappointed. I had the salmon special, served with mashed potatoes, and veggies, my BF had the scallops. Everything was cold, it was apparent the components had been sitting for a while with a miserable attempt to reheat them. My salmon was WAY overcooked and dry, mashed potatoes were decent, just cold, same with the veggies except that with no temp, all you could taste was the oil/fat they had been cooked in. My BF's scallops were no better, five small scallops that had been seared a long time before they came out, with a cold sauce, cold mashed potatoes and cold veggies. He got a bonus though, in his small scoop of mashed potatoes, he found a prize! A half of a halfway cooked potato! Still no check on our drinks or a chance to order additional wine, at this point maybe a little vino would help us laugh off the dinner. The flavor was OK just not what I expected. Felt like I was having dinner at my co-workers house who was trying his hand at starting to venture out in the kitchen with some "fancy" dinner. There was no point in attempting to send anything back as the servers were already annoyed and frankly rude, and the kitchen obviously was not going to re-fire anything. Halfway through our entrees we decided to give up on any additional drinks or water, abandon dessert, and made plans to grab cocktails and something sweet at another place close by. The kicker for this was that each dish was roughly $50, so that plus the app, ONE glass of champs and ONE cocktail, and the mandatory 20% gratuity we were at just about $200 for a dinner that felt more like a diner version of a Valentine's menu with a grouchy server than a place I have visited for yummy small plates and great drinks. We had brought our dogs and have been having a difficulty finding dog friendly restaurants to accommodate our family. We ordered seared scallops with Parmesan risotto (amazing!), the bacon wrapped dates ( to die for!) and the flank steak strips with potatos ( delicious!). Not worth the price of the food or the price to park. Honestly a bit of a scam, if you ask me, but I guess Reno is the place for that. Servings were abysmal, we ordered 5 plates for two people, which were all priced like large appetizers or full meals, but were the size of small tasting appetizers. One of the menu items was "Patatas Bravas", which was absolutely false advertising. As someone who has been to Barcelona, even the sketchy dive bars in Spain have better patatas bravas than here. Not only was it not spicy at all, it was bland. It's honestly a flat-out lie to call their potatoes this. Their mushroom/gruyere puff pastry dish was extremely dry, even the mushrooms, and entirely too flaky. The actual puff pastry technique was accurate, but was it worth what it cost? No. The burrata dish was arugula, a noticeably unripe tomato, one burrata ball that was halved in two, and a balsamic glaze, all of which could be done at home for far less. The exact kind of thing I hate about fake Italian food. We also ordered the zucchini/yellow squash dish, which was entirely bland and boring, even in presentation. The only good thing that I ate tonight was the lemon/ricotta ravioli, but there were only three raviolis served. Frankly, I've had better food in the middle of nowhere in Nebraska than what was offered here. Considering that minimum wage is $12/hr in Reno, our bill would be equivalent to over 8 hours of work, a full work day, and neither of us were even full after eating. The service was friendly, and I liked my cider. Perhaps the drinks are better than their food. Fantastic gem of a restaurant which my husband and I go to every time we visit Reno. The cocktails are awesome; the food is to die for, and we so appreciated our server who was fun and very accommodating and made our date night special. We shared the beet salad which we love, and my husband had the Steak Diane, and I had the Salmon and Risotto Special which I was still craving the next day because it tasted so delicious. The owners responses are so abrasive to an ANY negativity. The fact that he pays for yelp services ( sponsored) and it gives a good all over review rating shows the algorithm being used is skewed. I've eaten here over 5 times and my partner and his work partner several. It used to be good then dipped down hill post Covid. Plates overpriced and more often ok but not great. With a occasional big issues. The bad taste In my mouth is the fact the owner is so single handled rude and unaccepting even of slight criticisms. A shame as that should be used to improve the restaurant for the enjoyment of everyone including staff and owner. Having read the prior reviews as we were considering revisiting I decided it was a hard pass. Unacceptable behavior to write things like this to customers. Lack of tact class and manners!!! By the way !!!! Centro bar bar and kitchen!!!! blows this place away. We now eat there at least 2 times a month. Excellent services, chefs and ambiance. Made the reservation and expect to be in riverbank but it's not however the place is not disappointing. It's not busy and not that crowded (probably because we came in before dinner time) the place is accessible to the street. Only parking is the walking distance though other than that it's a nice dinner for us couple. And the food is great. My wife said that the filet is perfectly cooked and the appetizers is awesome. Went with my two sons and one of their spouses to celebrate Mother's Day. We didn't want the norm, we avoided chaos and walked in to this place while searching downtown. What a delight. No expectations except to have a nice ambiance! They completely superseded that. Very quaint, a couple was entertained at the bar by the tender mixing and pouring, a small party of maybe 10 shared the dining room with us. It was never known we shared the room, the noise was minimal, music was appropriate, the food was very impressive! It's more appetizers and alcohol... lived this gem.
