    Pesto Polenta

Went there on a Friday night, which was perfect, as it's the only evening they're usually open to the public. The recommendation was from someone I respect who loves CIB! The 3/6 Friday menu was limited to several pasta dishes, salads, and desserts. Future Friday menus are posted inside the entrance. I chose the Pesto Polenta + spinach salad. Both tasted very fresh and wholesome, very pleased and satisfied! Looking forward to leftovers later today! Got there a little after 6pm and the dining room was ~20% occupied, so, quiet. My kind of atmosphere, and I happily ate in serene solitude! My waitress was quietly attentive and I left there satiated, happy, and with a "doggie bag" = perfect! Thank you for a satisfactory experience, CIB.

This place makes me so happy. Their specialized menu of DAILY food is so fun. It forces you to come in on different days to try different items. I went in and had the pastrami on rye, just the half, but trust me I couldn't eaten a whole (and should have). It comes with a pickle slice but there are loads of different sides to choose from too. They have a full bar as well as wine and beers on tap. This feels like such an old school Sparks restaurant. It's popular with a wide range of different people. They get busy during the work week so just a heads up. Give this spot a try for excellent sandwiches and classic deli items

    Menu! Read closely...daily specials!

Pro's: Food is great, old-time Reno feel Con's: Just watch the day-of-the-week menu so you don't go on a day they don't have what you may be after. :) Go back?: Yes! More... I have heard about this place for as long as I have lived here (12 years) and finally went for lunch with a friend. She was after a hot dog, Coney style due to the name of the restaurant. They only have their grill menu on certain days of the week and she was out of luck but "suffered" through a salad she loved that was a combo of 4 different meats with salad greens piled on top. She really enjoyed it. It was spaghetti day and they offered spaghetti, polenta and spaghetti pesto, or a combo of all 3! I love combos! Their red sauce is really, really good...loved it on the spag and polenta. The plate also came with some slices of roast beef...like the kind that would be on a sandwich...thin, but heated. They were fatty but the meat part was delicious. This restaurant is old-time Reno. We ate at a high top table in the bar. We were the only women there! But we did not feel awkward or unsafe. There were female servers. The bar had gaming and there were some regulars sitting there day-drinking. (I'm just jealous - I had to go back to work!). It's a neat old place and the food is really good.

Near century old secret little place that old school Nevada locals swear by. Owned by the same Italian family for generations. No tourists here - it's a 1930s building under a freeway overpass. Lunch and dinner menu changes up depending on day. Flannels. Cowboy hats. Suspenders and gruff old ranchers and lawyers mix among the pastrami, spaghetti and its addictive vinaigrette.

Hot Pastrami!!!!! Every bite was ooohhhhhh, ummmmm!!!

Killer Hot Pastrami sandwich!!!!! Man this place is a sleeper for sure , I've been driving by this place coming home from work for over a year....... I just figured it was a dive bar. My boss took me out to lunch here today and told me how good it was, and it didn't disappoint. Small bar on one side and a smallish seating area on the other side with maybe 10 tables. Feels like a greasy spoon cafe from the 70's makes you feel like you hopped in a Time Machine- The 70's are nostalgic for me so I totally loved it. The menu is like an old school Italian Deli- Hot Pastrami with side salad was easily as good as any Pastrami Sandwich I've ever had, my boss had the Rueben with beef and barley soup, he said the soup was really good, and the sandwich was very similar to mine so it was excellent!!! Really friendly waitstaff, got big smiles from the bartender when we walked in and our waitress was really sweet, told us all about the weekly specials. The restaurant was filled with mostly older folks , like retirees who I would assume were all regulars, the place has a the vibe of a local secret spot that once you eat there you go back again and again! It made a great impression and I look forward to taking friends and family to enjoy this great little spot that most people would drive by and never guess was a great Restaurant. This place deserves 6 stars, it should get an extra star for authenticity and that special goodness that is rare these days in any restaurant even really good restaurants with good food, Coney Island Bar has a special quality to it that once you experience it you realize most places you go don't have "IT"

Ham and Swiss sandwich with beef barley soup

My wife and I came here a little after noon on a Friday for our regular weekly lunch date. We had been here once before but had not eaten food. We talked about wanting to try it again for the food and decided to today. My wife looked on their website earlier in the week to verify their hours. The parking lot was very full but we were able to find a spot and went inside. It was busy but there were plenty of tables and we were almost immediately greeted and our drink orders were taken. The menus are already on the table along with a brief history of the business and building. My wife decided on "The Mess" which is a tamale and beans with a salad. I chose the grilled ham and cheese sandwich with Swiss cheese and added a cup of beef barley soup. The inside is quaint and charming - it looks like there is definitely a good amount of regular customers. Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked good. My wife wasn't sure what to expect but was surprised when the salad mix was on top of the tamale and beans. She thought it was good but not mind blowing and she later told me that something did not sit well with her stomach. She ended up having heartburn that afternoon. I thought the beef barley soup was delicious and the ham and Swiss sandwich was amazing as well. Overall we are rating it a 4 and we will come back! Would love to try one of their dinners as well!

This was finally my first time here after having it bookmarked for 6 years. We drove by on our way to Record Street then decided to turn around for one quick drink. Glad we did! It was hoppin' with regulars for a Friday night. They are pretty laid back and pour generous drinks. The crowd was fun to watch. This is definitely a long time favorite for many locals.

Roasted Chicken and Linguine with Pesto Sauce

This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. It is tucked just off the freeway so if you blink you will miss it. They recently remodeled the restaurant and streamlined the menu. Part of the charm of this place is that it is not fancy but you are in for some delicious down-home cooking. It is definitely an old Reno hang out. It has been family owned since 1935. One of the favorite meals is the half and half for lunch on Tuesdays. One half is spaghetti with meat sauce and the other half is pesto pasta included with a side of roast beef. You can't go wrong with that dish. Another favorite for lunch on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays is The Mess which is a homemade enchilada topped with beans and salad. We recently went on a Friday night for dinner. My husband and I both ordered the linguine with pesto sauce and a side of the roasted chicken. The chicken is "fall off the bone" tender and soooo juicy. Do not miss it. The pesto pasta is my favorite dish! I do not know what Greg (the owner) does to it but it is evenly covered with pesto and lots of it. Another favorite of ours is the bread pudding. It is completely worth the extra calories.

It really does not taste anything like an "old fashioned" but it's very good and my usual go-to. Ambiance is cool. Has a very Edgar Alan Poe vibe mixed with an alchemist/speakeasy. They have a small patio as well. Service: top-notch mixologists/alchemists.

Love the quality of the drinks as they absolutely put effort and time making quality drinks with quality ingredients. It's relatively small inside so I can only imagine it could get packed in there. We had several drinks and every single one was perfection! The bathroom is the cutest and they have the coolest speakeasy door that the employees use to get to the back (not for the customers). My rant..I'm not from the area so I had NO idea what this place was when I walked by. It looked cute so my husband, myself and child walked up the steps and they sat outside while I went to check it out and see if this was a bar/club/ restaurant. I walked inside and instantly got the death glare from an employee. I instantly said omg I take it this place isn't kid friendly.. he rudely said no. I wanted to clarify and confirm even outside ? He said no. I apologized and they left but the vibe and way he said it was definitely off putting. My sister and I decided to stay for a drink while my husband/child went to walk around. Usually I don't give bad costumer service a chance.. but I realllllllly wanted a drink that one of those others customers were drinking. If this place had better costumer service. It would be a 5

A wonderful magic show inside the Grand Sierra Hotel & Casino…read more I was looking for something to do without leaving the hotel for a major conference. I saw that they were advertising this show...and I like a good magic show. It did not disappoint. The sleight of hand and on-stage demonstrations were incredible. I was still banging my head of how they did it or maybe it was the cocktail at the bar that was playing tricks on my mind. As a guest of the hotel, I had a 20% coupon and promptly used it at the ticket office, though I think I should have picked my seat better. Nonetheless, I was in the second row and I was able to get a good look of the magic up close. If you arrive early, you can hang out for Happy Hour, they had some unique drinks including the local standby beers and cocktails...and mocktails for those attending the all-ages show. I recommend seeing this show on a Friday or Saturday night if you want a bit more rambunctious, racy show.

After happy hour ended a bud light and high noon was $18. I can't believe they turned the old movie theater into a magic show theater. I sat there thinking about all the movies I saw at the Hotel and the first time I had a drink in a movie theater so long ago, 1989. It was fun in the bar prior to the doors opening they have a magical experience for adults and kids to set the mood for the evening. Tracy the bartender was awesome! She also works at Blitz during the day. She has the kindest soul and such a people person! It was like I had known her for years. They have a box office where you can purchase tickets. Very hard to hear the gal! They definitely need a microphone to speak to each other. If you think you're going to save a few extra dollars on those service fees - you may have to think twice, just purchase on line. It's much easier. Also, they have a snack bar with fresh popped popcorn $9 -$13 and huge pretzels $14. Chase Hasty and his wife have traveled around the world to over 25 countries sharing their magical talent and ballet dancing skills. My favorite part of the show was when Chase brought out a locked box and Hoisted the box with a rope up to the ceiling and told this guy to watch the box. Later in the show they opened the box, it was a pretty impressive trick!!! One not to be forgotten!! It's a small production but well thought out with couple extra dancers and costumes changes. I love that Chase, picks people out of the audience to help with the show. Maddox was a return kid that had been practicing his magic and Chase let him perform in front of the audience and what is that called "That's Magic!!!" It's nice the performers will met you afterwards in the hallway to have pictures and ask questions. It's a great family night or you can come to the later show at 9pm for a little more risky nocturnal show. I'll have to save that one for another time!
