Most recently I visited the South Elgin Best Buy for the first time post-pandemic and immediately was greeted, as they normally do, however, the young man caught me a little off guard by asking "What brings you to Best Buy today?". I didn't expect that level of service by a greeter but hey, I liked it. I told him I was shopping for a new A/V receiver as my old one bit the bullet. He effectively guided me to the right section of the store and we went on our merry way. I unfortunately was taken aback by the lack of product on display and it looked like they were using their retail space like a warehouse. cardboard boxes everywhere. I understand buying patterns have changed over the years and especially after the pandemic, but the place just looked a little disheveled. Kind of like me after a tough day at work. I'm still me but a bit worn and I'll need a little time to freshen up. The product that I wanted to take a closer look at was out of stock (shame on me, because I did a little research beforehand on their website and could have easily seen that this location didn't have any left). Disappointed, I started to walk away when two employees came up to us, asking if we needed help and one of them, Tristen, immediately took charge and looked up to see if they possibly had one. They didn't but he offered to place the order and have my purchase delivered the next day free of charge. Done! I know in this day and age that the next-day free delivery thing is commonplace, but that's not what struck me, it was the way in which we were treated. Quick, courteous, friendly, on-point, and effective. By the way, I just installed the a/v receiver which was delivered as promised.

    This review is about the company's shaky credit card business…read more In my experience I'd advise using another credit card, or as in my case, avoiding the store altogether in the future. I have two houses, in Illinois and Florida. I've been a customer for decades, spending tens of thousands in both states. Recently I took out a Best Buy credit card in order to save a hundred $ or so. My bill was delayed due to the USPS exceptionally slow mail forwarding system, from one state to another. This bill included a $26.99 late fee. Rather than waiving the fee at that time, I was told by Best Buy to pay it and they'd send a refund check, or alternatively, I could make a purchase and receive a store credit. Just to get it over with, I used the store credit to buy an ink cartridge, which I didn't really need. Later, I received a refund check. I immediately called and told them I already used the credit for a purchase. I was then told to cash the check and I'd receive another bill in the amount of the refund check. I eventually did get the $26.99 statement, and paid it, but through a comedy of errors, a week late because I was out of town again. Now I received another bill for $26.99, which was already paid, PLUS $28.99 for late fee interest, which was MORE than the original late fee. I have never been late for any Best Buy purchase other than this, which was largely the result of my being given the convoluted options. Despite this obvious confusion and my otherwise unblemished payment history they refuse to waive this unearned fee. This is bad business. Best Buy will get their $28.99 "late fee," competing businesses will get my future purchases of often high-end items.
