My mother and I were in there to get a clasp fixed on her necklace. We were quoted $46 by Marco just to fix a clasp!!! They want you to buy a new chain from them rather than fix the one you have! When we mentioned we were loyal customers since the 70's, the lady said nothing. Since new ownership took over this place has become a clown show. We will never frequent there again. They not only lost one customer today, they lost many as our whole neighborhood talks. We will go somewhere else from now forward. This place is now a joke. read more

Absolutely amazing customer service. This was my first time at Nelson's and they treated me with such kindness. They didn't rush me or push me at all. They took the time to let me browse and try on as many rings as I wanted to. It was such a fun experience! I didn't feel pressured at all. I had used this store in the past for some jewelry repair and was very satisfied with an employee named Justin, great guy. Last year, my wife bought me a watch from Nelson's as a gift. This was to be my 'nice' watch, only to be worn for special occasions. The first time I wore the watch was to a friend's wedding. While we were dining at the reception, I got up to leave the table and my watch was on the floor. About 20 minutes later it fell off again. This happened a few more times that night until finally I went back to my vehicle to store the watch safely as opposed to losing it. I went to Nelsons the next weekend to see if they could fix the band on the watch. They informed me that they would send the watch in to Bullova for a full repair. A couple of weeks later we received a call that the watch was in and ready for pickup. I stopped in after work to get it and all seemed fine. Right before I left the store I looked at the watch closely and noticed some damage (scratches) on the side of the watch that were not there before. That is when the nice lady helping me gave the watch to Bob Nelson. He glanced at the watch and refused to even talk to me about it. His words were, "it's been worn." My reply was yes, one time and it fell off of my arm several times. If the damage did occur when I wore it that one night, it was only due to the band not working properly. He basically tried to quietly blow me off so other customers would not notice. I was very unsatisfied and asked for his name. He replied, "bob, NELSON." Almost like he thought his name would scare me. I told him that I did not want the watch in it's present condition. I grabbed my claim ticket off of the counter and walked out. My wife was very unhappy with the way things happened, but I didn't see any other outcome other than He and I yelling at each other in the store, and I really didn't want that. My wife did go in and get the watch, then we went to Dalzell Jewelers in Crystal Lake. They fixed the watch band again, and now it is actually safe to wear. Since then, I have purchased a few more pieces from Dalzell and will continue to in the future. I will never set foot in Nelson's again, and will always speak poorly of their customer service. read more

I have had two recent wonderful experiences at this jewelry store. I brought my wife's engagement ring to be fixed and they gave me a honest evaluation of what needed to be done to fix it and the work was top notch. The cost was reasonable and it was done in a timely manner. I then brought in my Hamilton Ventura watch to be fixed. The crystal was broken. They let me know the crystal was hard to come by and we would either have to find one from someone selling one on Ebay or have one custom made. They even went on Ebay and found a crystal they thought would work. I purchased the crystal and brought it along with the watch into the store and they replaced the crystal and changed the battery for a very reasonable price of $25.00. My watch looks like brand new now! I would highly recommend this jeweler for all your repair work and jewelry purchases. read more

Stopped in here randomly to see if they could repair the bands on two watches I had plus replace the batteries. I expected answers like no we don't have that band, buy a new watch from us instead. Or no we don't do batteries, buy a new watch from us instead etc. etc. Was instead surprised that they fixed both watches there on the spot in minutes at cost half of what I thought it would be. Nelson's really help me out. I bought my and my wife's wedding bands at Jared's because of the great prices. I didn't think it was really possible to mess up two plan bands but i learned very fast you get what you pay for. Out of frustration with the inept costumer service at Jared's and the miss treatment of my wife we decided that we wanted to give our business else ware. I honestly don't know the first thing about jewelry but I sure do know a lot about costumer service. Nelson's cared, worked with us, and got the job done fast and correctly. I feel i can not say thank you enough to them. My ring is nothing special in terms of beauty or price but it is my most prized possession. There are many types of jewelry stores: those that try to hard sell you and those that try to service the customer's needs. I have been in both types. You are always better in the later. Recently I had a piece of jewelry (a rosary) to repair. It has no monetary value but great sentimental value. I found Nelson's Jewelry on the net near my home. I thought I would try them. I have been purchasing jewelry from Nelson's for nearly five years now and would not go any place else. I was able to design my wife's engagement ring on my own and got consultation on how to pick a diamond. I was so excited about doing this that I told my friend who lives an hour and a half away, and even he used Nelson's Jewelry to do the very same thing! Needless to say, our wedding bands are from here, as well as watches and other pieces that my wife has. But the best of all is the mother's ring that my sisters and I got for my mother. She's a bit unconventional and does construction projects with her ring on. The prong that held the amethyst (ME!) in broke and she lost her stone. Nelson's Jewelry not only had the ring fixed, but had cleaned it too. My mom was almost in tears when she got the ring the back, like she was getting a new ring again. Just as an update to my previous review, I wanted to let Nelson's know that I was able to replace my wife's engagement ring, because I know that it wasn't the best. But because of the way we were treated when we were there, the $5,000 went to another store, not Nelson's.
