I was overjoyed when I found out Abesco is an authorized KitchenAid service center. Edward greeted me when I brought my stand mixer. After plugging it in and turning it on, he knew exactly what I, or the mixer, needed, a new gear! The owner, Dave, was personable and friendly. He made accommodations for me to wait while the mixer is being serviced which allowed me to explore the area and found a great Korean restaurant for lunch (see my review on Go Goo Ma Korean). Drop off is between 11 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday. The fee was reasonable and service was thorough. Here are some tips when it comes to stand mixers: 1. ALWAYS use dough hook when mixing dough and stiff cookie dough and always keep the speed at MAXIMUM of #2 2. When it comes to dough, go slow 3. If you have liquids to add to the recipe, put them in the bowl first. It will lubricate the bottom of the bowl and reduce the start up friction 4. This is a first rate appliance repair company that specializes in commercial and restaurant kitchen equipment. My Kitchen Aid mixer began leaking oil. This happens, apparently, when the grease separates due to a lack of frequent use. I did not know that the manufacturer wants owners to run the mixer at high speed for 5 minutes every week. So Dan, the owner, told me over the phone what the likely problem was (confirming what I had already learned online was probably the issue). He told me that he could fix it in about 75 minutes. He did, adjusted the speeds, replaced a gasket and a cracked screw. The bill was even a little less than his over the phone estimate. Kitchen Aid factory service can be had if you wish to spend $65.00 on a shipping kit they will send you. They charge a $45.00 diagnostic fee plus the repair labor and parts. The cost of this fix, had I gone that route would have been more than $150.00 and taken a couple of weeks (for transport there and back from Ohio). I was fortunate that the traffic was light (from downtown Chicago) both ways and the entire process took less than 2.5 hours. Worth it! read more

I spoke with Dan by phone to arrange drop off of two very old KitchenAid stand mixers for maintainence. He was so kind and offered to work on both mixers if I would care to wait. Since it was about an hours drive from my home I was very happy to get this done in one trip. Dan was true to his word in getting both machines oiled and adjusted back to original specs in a timely fashion. He even cleaned and polished the exteriors so they gleamed like new! I had asked to purchase a new paddle but he did not have any in stock at that visit but he said that he would get in touch with me when he received his next shipment. I didn't think that customer service like this even existed any more. With trepidation, I drove from the far southern suburbs to Abesco in Hoffman Estates after speaking with Dan on the phone who assured me that he could fix the issue I was having with my Kitchen Aid stand mixer. Not only did he, 1. Fix the issue I was having with the first gear (stir) speed. 2. Tighten the pin. 3. Straighten the speed leaver . and 4. Clean out of of the flour that was packed inside the housing. He also acknowledged the decals I had put on my mixer and said they were pretty. And because I drove over 60 miles to bring my mixer to him, there was NO CHARGE. Since he provides such great customer service, I will provide customer loyalty. Wish I could leave a ten star review! Dan returned my call within one hour and, after asking questions about the problem I was having, said to bring the 20 year old KA lift stand mixer to the shop. Arrived with the mixer 11/2hours later and after a brief examination, Dan was able to locate the new part needed for repair in his workroom. Said to return in a little more than one hour and it would be ready to bring home! Recommended a great local restaurant near his shop for lunch (called Assemble). Within the hour, Dan sent me a text that the mixer was ready for pick up. Drove back to the shop after lunch and picked up my repaired, cleaned and polished mixer. So happy with the service! Our 10+ year old Kitchen Aid mixer began having problems; the speed switch wasn't working properly and when we inadvertently took out the motor brushes, we couldn't get them back in properly. After contacting a number of repair services, we were referred to ABESCO. We went to them and we're very pleased with the service they provided. The repair charge was very reasonable. They dissembled the mixer and replaced the worn and damaged parts. They cleaned it, lubricated where necessary and tuned it to factory specs for speed and bowl clearance. The machine works like new. My kitchenAid stand mixer had been sounding strange for months so I finally my made the trip up to Abesco. When I got there, he listened to the motor, took it back to the workroom, and emerged 5-10 minutes later with a repaired machine! I had an issue with my kitchen aid mixer where the base would shake when in use. Set up an appointment to have this issue fixed, I received a call from Abesco saying that they tested the machine and my concern was not an issue and they found nothing wrong, I agreed to get a $100 tune up on the machine while not having the first problem solved. Super nice, fast service, thorough, and informative. A little hidden gem. I have a special 6qt bowl lift KitchenAid mixer. I can't find accessories for it in store or online anywhere.
