If there was a zero star option I would have selected it. They say 24 hour support through their chat but when you click on it nothing happens. Their internet in my area is hit or miss. All it takes is some rain to make the internet connection useless. When I lived in Michigan it was the same way...it was so bad people in the area used to throw rocks through their windows after hours. I would give them a minus 200 stars, if I could! Friday evening, February 6, 2026, I had landline phone service. Saturday morning through now, February 15, 2026, I have no phone service. I have spent over 5 hours over the past week attempting to find the problem online along with hours 'chatting' with some BOT on the other side of the planet. I did troubleshooting on my line but could only get as far as the internet so that I could schedule a repair ticket but then was unable to communicate online with anyone to let them know that the problem was with my phone, not internet. I finally was able to troubleshoot my phone but the response came back that 'unable to test phone when it is busy'. Duh! Now what am I supposed to do? So, I left the repair ticket as is and expected a technician as scheduled for Monday, February 9th. I woke up to an email from CL telling me that my ticket had been cancelled because 'there is an outage in my area'. I then went to chat with their BOT and they confirmed that there is an outage and it 'may' be repaired by 6:00pm on 2-10-26. Why was this outage not shown on their website and why was I not notified of this outage Saturday morning when it occurred? Instead I have wasted over 5 hours of my life attempting to do their job without success. I initially contacted the Montana Public Service Commission on February 16, 2024 with a similar complaint and now it's 2026 and we are still having to put up with this BS - local company with customer service located on the other side of the planet and customer is expected to go online and do their work. I am 82 years old and I don't have enough time left in my life to spend hours trying to stay on top of ever changing technology and chase links on their website to solve CenturyLink issues. Also, I depend on my landline for emergency purposes, should my 'flip phone' not be working. I'll bet if I quit giving them my 'local money', they would immediately terminate my 'local service' which they don't provide very well. This is the response I received from the Public Service Commission "The Commission's authority is focused on whether the company meets minimum service quality and safety standards set in law and rule; we cannot require them to staff a local call center or design their customer service systems in a particular way. That said, the kinds of issues you describe--such as taking two days to notify you of an outage, or expecting customers to spend hours navigating websites and automated systems--are exactly the types of problems we consider when evaluating whether they are meeting their obligations to customers." So, why haven't they done anything to require those minimum standards? It is now Sunday, February 15, 2026 and I still don't have phone service and no explanation on their website as to the problem other than "There is currently an outage in your area that may be impacting your service. The outage is expected to be resolved by February 16,2026 7:00 PM." And, this notification changes daily. It's seriously wrong when consumers have to put up with this from both the suppliers and the politicians who are supposed to protect the consumers from this type of abuse. After 2 years of attempting to address and correct these issues, I have received nothing but excuses. Perhaps we consumers as a group could achieve more. Is anybody interested? read more

SLOW and UNRELIABLE. So slow apps on my phone won't work, and I have to remember to switch it off wifi to get them to work. This is laughable because I have bad cell service where I live and it still works better. Customer service will feed you a line that it's working and that somehow it's a connection in your house (trying to scare you with a $100 tech fee), then when you see a tech messing with the box they tell you the real deal that it's off for the whole street. We had Centurytel internet for years. It was not great but unfortunately my husband had linked his email to Centurytel. This spring the service went down for at least 2 solid months. After being a customer for around seven years I put in a request to cancel on 1 May. I received confirmation from the clerk that such cancellation was made and would take affect on that day. I get a bill a month later and says the service was canceled on me 23rd and it included late charges. CenturyLink is a complete idiot..I hope to never ever use them again. We called next day and after being bounced around within the inept customer service department, we were scheduled for a June 25th appointment. That appointment was skipped, for no apparent reason and moved to July 12. It is now July 12th and the appointment has been skipped again for no said reason. Century Link has suspended my 87 year old father's account over the weekend, leaving him unable to communicate and without any means of customer service to fix the issue. This has happened before and CenturyLink was at fault and restored his service. His billing is on autopay. There is a glitch in their billing service. Not having customer service is not just bad customer service, it's dangerous. Now my father is unable to communicate and he lives alone. CenturyLink should be held responsible if any harm comes from this. No customer service on the weekends is irresponsible to their customers. read more

If there was a "less than one star" rating, I'd use that. There are new signs all over the area touting CenturyLink's awesome internet service. We called, and the salesman was very helpful in looking up our address to determine if service was available here. It was! We set up the appointment. Install Day came ... and went. No installer. No phone call. We called the salesman and left a message to find out what was going on. Did he call back? NOPE. We called the local contact; left him a message as well. Did he call back? NOPE. After EIGHT HOURS of no show/no contact, I called customer service. They told me no order had ever been sent to the installer because CenturyLink had "oversold" for our area. The CS rep offered to have the local supervisor call me the next day. Did he call? NOPE. An entire day was wasted waiting for a product that the salesman should not have sold us in the first place. Now this company has all my information and I am getting mail from them letting me know the details about my service order when a service order never existed in the first place. UPDATE: These idiots had the nerve to bill me $1.50 for some obscure service that never took place. Yes, a phone call was made to them and they were "more than happy" to absorb that cost. read more

When I lived in Lewistown I used Midriver I rarely had an issue. Here in Polson and using Centurylink it has been never ending. Their hardware is junk. Three of them died in a little over a year with no option for a different product instead of their all in one. So we got a Netgear and a Linksys from Best Buy. The last month has been constant on and off of service. It might stay on for a day, or for 5 minutes. It is not from my equipment as ours in the area have told me they have been having the same issues. They are fortunate that one star is as low as they can be rated. read more

Signed up over a month ago and gave them an activation date of 3 days ago...still no service despite a dozen plus phone calls...lots of excuses as they bounce you from one department to another, a game of hot potato...I must know all of their names by now...To add insult to injury every time I called to request status of my activation ALL of them would try to sell me more services! Can you believe it! If you're going with CenturyLink, give them an activation date of at least a week before you really need it, expect delays, incompetence, excuses, and bring lots and lots of patience! Update: Day 4, still no service. They supposedly scheduled a hookup tomorrow between 8-5. Had to cancel my flight, this is beginning to cost me $$. Update: Day 5, still no service. Got up at 6:30am and drove the 20 miles to make sure I wouldn't miss the technician. Technician is great, actually called me to give me an ETA. Call company only to find out we were using the previous owners internet (wth) call them and they say oh well just reschedule you a month out later then we needed. The speed which is already slow is extremely inconsistent almost comparable to dialup alot of the time. Customer service is awful and when you reach them you end up on the phone for an hour or more with them constantly asking if they may put you on hold. I just spent an HOUR on the phone and still have two more things to clear up. I finally hung up after being denied monies owed to me. You heard right! CenturyLinnk overcharged me three times! I was able to get refunded for two of the months, but the third month, they refused to refund. I hung up because I was way too inflamed to deal with the incompetent girl who was not helpful to me whatsoever. I will try again another time to get the two issues settled. The other issue, trying to pay my bill using their automated service, I tried to do on my own but then learned that they charge you for doing that, too! I just wasted an hour --- UNPAID -- dealing with this company. I cannot stand them and will be looking elsewhere if the monopoly on internet services allows. Called them August 30th to make my deposit, went fine and dandy got told they would be out on the 5th I was fine with it, the 6th rolls around so I call them and am now told I have to wait till the 23rd! I was a bit irritated with this but really needed and wanted internet so I'd wait the 17 days it's the 23rd no internet, no "we missed you slip" so I call and the lady tells me I wanted to cancel so they didn't send the modem I have never used cancellation verbatim so she said absolutely tomorrow we will get them out, I told her if I didn't have internet I'd cancel and want a refund she obliged and we parted ways, not even 20 minutes of being off the phone I get a call back saying I don't have hookups for internet!? Sorry but I was with CHARTER FOR 7 YEARS there's a freaking hookup kept my end of the deal and cancelled. This company is trash. read more

ZERO customer service after you sign up. The good ol' boys that come set up your phone line are all great guys, it's the call center and billing that is terrible. And the internet speed itself is terrible. Was told that my service would cost less if I "bundled with a phone" so I did, telling the rep that I NEVER use a home phone, so only do it if it actuly took money off what I would pay total for just internet. Well I just got a $500 long distance bill in the mail for a phone line I have never used once. My wife and I have been with CenturyLink for over 10 years. In the past 4 years, CenturyLink has been very difficult to deal with. Everything from technical service, customer service and billing. Recently, there was a power outage that left us without service for 24 hours. No problem, storms happen. However it took CenturyLink over a week to reestablish service both telephone and internet. During that time we were unable to talk with anyone at CenturyLink, just a recording..."we are working on it." When service came back up, we found that our internet service was very slow. Back on the phone to try to get a internet tech. It took 2 days of calling and holding. Finally got someone who was NO help at all. He put in a "repair ticket" to have someone contact us within 48 hours. 3 days came and went and no call back. On the 4th day we called back and got the pleasure of talking to a very rude service agent. After much discussion, we got a day when an "outside" tech would be available, but no firm time...just between 8:00 and 5:00. That day came and went and no show. AGAIN on the phone to customer service. The explanation we got was that the Tech was very busy. He will be there the next day, we were told. Again NO show. 3 days later he showed up and was unable to assist us. We would have to get an INSIDE tech to help. By this time 2 weeks passed. We discovered in our area, they were NOT the only game in town. WE went with them. They were able to install their equipment, get us up and running within 2 days. We were so glad to GET RID of CenturyLink. They have become so big that they could care less about their customers once they hook you up. If you have another alternative. use them...unless you enjoy sitting around and total frustration.. read more

Be warned - this is the WORST internet company I have ever worked with. We moved to the Flathead Valley last year, we live 8 (eight) miles outside of Kalispell, and the fiasco of this company and the service we receive is BEYOND UNACCEPTABLE. We get 4Mpbs when it works - which is about 25% of the time - oh yeah - and we are paying $80 a month for this pathetic internet speed. We call, and call and CALL - at least 1x a week because our internet is down - and we are always told that there is no problem and our 2.8Mpbs download speed is within 80% of the acceptable rate. Laughable. BE WARNED before you buy a house that requires you to use Century Link because you will be miserable with their service. We have tried to secure Hughes Net and other satellite options but we cannot due to our view to the southern sky - however - I STRONGLY encourage you to try to do this before choosing Century-link. They say they can fix it but never do, Everytime I chat with a tech they have no idea what I am talking about, and when I call to talk with them they can never hear us whether on the land line through them or on my cell phone... Centurylink is the worst company in this or any universe. From the moment you contact centurylink, you will have nothing but trouble. Their "customer service", if and when you even get through to one, will insult, belittle, lie and ignore your request and complaints. And there WILL be many complaints. They will overcharge you every month, ignoring your contract. When you finally get fed up and cancel service and return the crappy equipment and pay your last bill, they will send your "account" to collections without notice to you. Then you get to spend hours dealing with a collection agency. If you need internet, choose anyone other than centurylink. Walk 10 miles in a blinding snowstorm to the library, you will be better off and have less stress. read more

Centurylink is a classic example of what happens when a business gets a virtual monopoly in a rural area. Service and support become just and after thought. When you have a problem, you're force to go through the telephone maze of automated instructions and if you're lucky enough to finally reach a live person, you won't be able to understand them or you'll be transferred 2 or 3 more times before they just hang up on you. I recently had my email password hacked and spent several days and many hours talking to over 15 different techs until they finally just blocked my account and refused to return my recorded messages for help. I'm switching to another provider asap. I've been with Centurylink and it's predecessors for over 38 years. It's such a shame at what they've become. read more

I agree entirely with Steve N. We wished to discuss our bill today. My Husband held on the phone for 30 minutes then noticed he could get a live chat person. Both the office and the live chat person were supposed to be there until 6.00 pm. The live chat site (no real person) just referred you to a bunch of questions. When my Husband went back on the phone at 5.40 it said they were closed. According to Yelp they should still be open until 8.00. We are very seriously thinking of canceling our service as between this month and last month they have put the fees up by $30. So with their lousy customer service and the insane increase in fees we have had enough of them. This company does not care one bit about its clientele. read more
