I stumbled across her soft, eloquently and romantic voice on a friend's wedding video. And knew instantly, that her soothing and calming voice as well as her thoughtfully chosen words would evoke the heartfelt love that Rodney and I have always had for each other.. she spoke at our ceremony like she had known us for years. I could hear soft sobs lightly around my ears as I grasped tightly and nervously onto my soon to be husband's hands as I didn't want to look away from his gorgeous gaze. I was so in the moment and she helped me to remain there... We met with her 8 months before our wedding and she is incredibly kind and professional. She had us do a tiny little questionnaire and a few words about our partner that she threw in our ceremony. It was beautiful and at the time we had no idea what we wrote about one another! She asked us what type of ceremony and asked to know a little bit more about us. She is prompt, follows up with you and even goes as far as asks for your vows as back up and she will help you if you need help on them. Mine were longer than my husbands but I am a passionate writer and wanted to keep them after carefully combing through them. She is patient and understanding and helps guide you for everything you need to have in order for her to conduct our nuptials and leading to the day up to. I would choose her a thousand times over. My now husband and I had the privilege of meeting Deidra earlier this year when our wedding planner introduced her as a possible officiant. We were getting married in a state on the opposite side of the country that we live so we needed someone who could clearly communicate every detail via phone and or email. My husband was raised in a Hindu household and I was raised Episcopalian and attended Catholic school. We decided to have a non-religious ceremony and needed to find just the right person to present our union in a way that didn't exclude anyone or make us uncomfortable. In addition, there were sensitive family dynamics to consider. After our first phone call with Deidra we knew we had found our officiant. She never made us feel judged for our decision of a non religious ceremony and made sure to clarify and address every detail so as to not offend anyone in either family. Deidra presented us a non-religious blessing that was in a word, perfect. It captured the purpose of marriage and the values it represents but without referencing a specific religion. Initially we were concerned the ceremony would not be long enough without traditional rituals but Deidra had many suggestions to enrich our ceremony. She also explained in detail every step of obtaining our marriage license in another state and how the process would work. She made sure we pre-ordered certified copies which has saved us headaches along the way. When the day came, Deidra arrived promptly and with a warm energy. We only had one Made of Honor and two Best Men in the ceremony. This sounds easy but the men in particular needed very concrete direction to avoid confusion. Deidra explicitly explained how to place the rings into her hand, loose and long ways as opposed to side by side, so they do not fall out of her hand. This is no doubt from years of experience but details like this can really affect your ceremony. Had one of the men plopped the rings into her hand carelessly, they may have fallen on the stage, disrupting the ceremony. Due to Deidra's preparation, everything went according to plan and we had a lovely ceremony that was just the right length and encompassed everything we wanted to share with our friends and family. We're so glad we found Deidra, she's amazing pre-wedding and during the wedding ceremony. She's a true professional, we couldn't have asked for a better officiant! We are a non-religious couple and not traditional (We have 3 cultural traditions that were clashing so we just wanted a fun, laid back wedding not full of contradictory rules to follow). My wife and I were both lucky and grateful to have Deidra officiate our small wedding ( 70ish ) a few months ago in Topanga Canyon at the Inn of the Seventh Ray. From our early introduction over email to meeting her in person at her beautiful home and all the way up to the final big day, Deidra was a true professional, extremely helpful and always friendly. It was very important that our officiant was experienced and organized since we only had a "day of" wedding coordinator and I can confidently say Deidra hit a homerun in this category. If you want an officiant who will let you procrastinate and create your vows the night before the wedding, don't choose Deidra. If you want someone very well organized who will give you priceless advice along the way in order to save you from a stressful wedding, Deidra is the perfect choice. We found her provided documents extremely insightful and appreciated the timing of when they were shared. She didn't overwhelm us and dump tons of information all at once but spaced it out in a very thoughtful manner that made the wedding planning go much smoother than we initially anticipated. In terms of response time, she always replied back to our questions at a very prompt pace and never left us hanging. This review is long overdue. Deidra was the officiant for our wedding in 2012. She was simply amazing from the moment we met her to our actual wedding day. At the time, we had no knowledge about wedding ceremonies or the marriage licensing procedure.
